Experimental Investigation of Separation and Transition Processes on a High-Lift Low-Pressure Turbine Profile Under Steady and Unsteady Inflow at Low Reynolds Number显示文摘The effects induced by the presence of incoming wakes on the boundary layer developing over a high-lift low-pressure turbine profile have been investigated in a linear cascade at mid-span.The tested Reynolds number is 70000,typical of the cruise operating condition. The results of the investigations performed under steady and unsteady inflow conditions are analyzed. The unsteady investigations have been performed at the reduced frequency of f+=0.62,representative of the real engine operating condition.Profile aerodynamic loadings as well as boundary layer velocity profiles have been measured to survey the separation and transition processes.Spectral analysis has been also performed to better understand the phenomena associated with the transition process under steady inflow. For the unsteady case,a phase-locked ensemble averaging technique has been employed to reconstruct the time-resolved boundary layer velocity distributions from the hot-wire instantaneous signal output. The ensemble-averaging technique allowed a detailed analysis of the effects induced by incoming wakes-boundary layer interaction in separation suppression.Time-resolved results are presented in terms of mean velocity and unresolved unsteadiness time-space plots.Satta F Simoni D Ubaldi M Zunino P Bertini F 2010Journal of Thermal Science2010,19,1:9
A new oral formulation for the release of sodium butyrate in the ileo-cecal region and colon显示文摘AIM: To develop a new formulation with hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose and Shellac coating for extended and selective delivery of butyrate in the ileo-caecal region and colon. METHODS: One-gram sodium butyrate coated tablets containing 13C-butyrate were orally administered to 12 healthy subjects and 12 Crohn's disease patients and the rate of 13C-butyrate absorption was evaluated by 13CO2 breath test analysis for eight hours. Tauroursodeoxycholic acid (500 mg) was co-administered as a biomarker of oro-ileal transit time to determine also the site of release and absorption of butyrate by the time of its serum maximum concentration. RESULTS: The coated formulation delayed the 13C-butyrate release by 2-3 h with respect to the uncoated tablets. Sodium butyrate was delivered in the intestine of all subjects and a more variable transit time was found in Crohn's disease patients than in healthy subjects. The variability of the peak 13CO2 in the kinetic release of butyrate was explained by the inter-subject variability in transit time. However, the coating chosen ensured an efficient release of the active compound even in patients with a short transit time. CONCLUSION: Simultaneous evaluation of breath 13CO2 and tauroursodeoxycholic acid concentration- time curves has shown that the new oral formulation consistently releases sodium butyrate in the ileo-cecal region and colon both in healthy subjects and Crohn's disease patients with variable intestinal transit time. This formulation may be of therapeutic value in inflammatory bowel disease patients due to the appropriate release of the active compound.Aldo Roda Patrizia Simoni Maria Magliulo Paolo Nanni Mario Baraldini Giulia Roda Enrico Roda 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,7:8

Ursodeoxycholic acid improves gastrointestinal motility defects in gallstone patients显示文摘AIM: To simultaneously evaluate the presence of defects in gallbladder and gastric emptying, as well as in intestinal transit in gallstone patients (GS) and the effect of chronic ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) administration on these parameters and on serum bile acids and clinical outcome in GS and controls (CTR). METHODS: After a standard liquid test meal, gallbla-dder and gastric emptying (by ultrasound), oroileal transit time (OITT) (by an immunoenzymatic technique) and serum bile acids (by HPLC) were evaluated before and after 3 mo of UDCA (12 mg/kg bw/d) or placebo administration in 10 symptomatic GS and 10 matched healthy CTR. RESULTS: OITT was longer in GS than in CTR (P < 0.0001); UDCA significantly reduced OITT in GS (P < 0.0001), but not in CTR. GS had longer gastric half-emptying time (t1/2) than CTR (P < 0.0044) at baseline; after UDCA, t1/2 significantly decreased (P < 0.006) in GS but not in CTR. Placebo administration had no effect on gastric emptying and intestinal transit in both GS and CTR. CONCLUSION: The gallstone patient has simultaneous multiple impairments of gallbladder and gastric emptying, as well as of intestinal transit. UDCA administration restores these defects in GS, without any effect in CTR. These results confirm the pathogenetic role of gastrointestinal motility in gallstone disease and suggest an additional mechanism of action for UDCA in reducing bile cholesterol supersaturation.A Colecchia G Mazzella L Sandri F Azzaroli M Magliuolo P Simoni ML Bacchi-Reggiani E Roda D Festi 2006World Journal of Gastroenterology2006,12,33:4
Experimental Investigation of Flow Instabilities in a Laminar Separation Bubble显示文摘The present paper reports the results of a detailed experimental study aimed at investigating the dynamics of a laminar separation bubble, from the origin of separation up to the breakdown to turbulence of the large scale coherent structures generated as a consequence of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability process. Measurements have been performed along a flat plate installed within a double contoured test section, designed to produce an adverse pressure gradient typical of Ultra-High-Lift turbine blade profiles, which induces the formation of a laminar separation bubble at low Reynolds number condition. Measurements have been carried out by means of complementary techniques: hot-wire(HW) anemometry, Laser Doppler Velocimetry(LDV) and Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV). The high accuracy 2-dimensional LDV results allow investigating reverse flow magnitude and both Reynolds normal and shear stress distributions along the separated flow region, while the high frequency response of the HW anemometer allows analyzing the amplification process of flow oscillations induced by instability mechanisms. PIV results complement the flow field analysis providing information on the generation and evolution of the large scale coherent structures shed as a consequence of the separated shear layer roll-up, through instantaneous velocity vector maps. The simultaneous analysis of the data obtained by means of the different measuring techniques allows an in depth view of the instability mechanisms involved in the transition/reattachment processes of the separated shear layer.Simoni D. 6Beneficial effect of sulphate-bicarbonate-calcium water on gallstone risk and weight control显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effect of drinking sulphate-bicarbonate-calcium thermal water (TW) on risk factors for atherosclerosis and cholesterol gallstone disease.METHODS:Postmenopausal women with functional dy-spepsia and/or constipation underwent a 12 d cycle of thermal (n=20) or tap (n=20) water controlled drinking.Gallbladder fasting volume at ultrasound, blood vitamin E,oxysterols (7-β-hydroxycholesterol and 7-ketocholesterol),bile acid (BA),triglycerides,total/low density lipoprotein and high density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured at baseline and at the end of the study.Food consumption, stool frequency and body weight were recorded daily.RESULTS:Blood lipids, oxysterols and vitamin E were not affected by either thermal or tap water consumption.Fasting gallbladder volume was significantly (P<0.005) smaller at the end of the study than at baseline in the TW (15.7±1.1 mL vs 20.1±1.7 mL) but not in the tap water group (19.0±1.4 mL vs 19.4±1.5 mL).Total serum BA concentration was significantly (P<0.05) higher at the end of the study than at baseline in the TW (5.83±1.24μmol vs 4.25±1.00μmol) but not in the tap water group (3.41±0.46μmol vs 2.91±0.56μmol).The increased BA concentration after TW consumption was mainly accounted for by glycochenodeoxycholic acid. The number of pasta (P<0.001),meat (P<0.001) and vegetable (P<0.005) portions consumed during the study and of bowel movements per day (P<0.05) were significantly higher in the TW than in the tap water group.Body weight did not change at the end of the study as compared to baseline in both groups.CONCLUSION:Sulphate-bicarbonate-calcium water consumption has a positive effect on lithogenic risk and intestinal transit and allows maintenance of a stable body weight despite a high food intake.Stefano Ginanni Corradini Flaminia Ferri Michela Mordenti Luigi Iuliano Maria Siciliano Maria Antonella Burza Bruno Sordi Barbara Caciotti Maria Pacini Edoardo Poli Adriano De Santis Aldo Roda Carolina Colliva Patrizia Simoni Adolfo Francesco Attili 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,9:3
Combined Experimental and Numerical Investigations on the Roughness Effects on the Aerodynamic Performances of LPT Blades显示文摘The aerodynamic performance of a high-load low-pressure turbine blade cascade has been analyzed for three different distributed surface roughness levels(Ra) for steady and unsteady inflows. Results from CFD simulations and experiments are presented for two different Reynolds numbers(300000 and 70000 representative of take-off and cruise conditions, respectively) in order to evaluate the roughness effects for two typical operating conditions. Computational fluid dynamics has been used to support and interpret experimental results, analyzing in detail the flow field on the blade surface and evaluating the non-dimensional local roughness parameters, further contributing to understand how and where roughness have some influence on the aerodynamic performance of the blade. The total pressure distributions in the wake region have been measured by means of a five-hole miniaturized pressure probe for the different flow conditions, allowing the evaluation of profile losses and of their dependence on the surface finish, as well as a direct comparison with the simulations. Results reported in the paper clearly highlight that only at the highest Reynolds number tested(Re=300000) surface roughness have some influence on the blade performance, both for steady and unsteady incoming flows. In this flow condition profile losses grow as the surface roughness increases, while no appreciable variations have been found at the lowest Reynolds number. The boundary layer evolution and the wake structure have shown that this trend is due to a thickening of the suction side boundary layer associated to an anticipation of transition process. On the other side, no effects have been observed on the pressure side boundary layer.Marco Berrino Fabio Bigoni Daniele Simoni Matteo Giovannini Michele Marconcini Roberto Pacciani Francesco Bertini 2016Journal of Thermal Science2016,25,1:3

Exocrine pancreatic function during the early recovery phase of acute pancreatitis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Exocrine pancreatic dysfunction has been reported in humans in the convalescent period after acute pancreatitis, but the data are scarce and conflicting. This study aimed to prospectively assess the exocrine pancreatic function in patients with acute pancreatitis at the time of their refeeding. METHODS:Fecal elastase-1 was determined on the day of refeeding in all consecutive acute pancreatitis patients with their first episode of the disease. They were 75 patients including 60(80.0%)patients with mild acute pancreatitis and 15(20.0%)patients with severe acute pancreatitis. Etiologically 61 patients(81.3%)had biliary disease,1(1.3%) had alcoholic disease and 3(4.0%)had hypertriglyceridemia. No causes of acute pancreatitis were found in the remaining 10 patients(13.3%).The mean(±SD)refeeding time after the attack of acute panereatitis was 11.2±10.2 days. RESULTS:Pathological values of FE-1 were found in 9 of the 75 patients(12.0%):7(9.3%)patients with mild pancreatitis and 2(2.7%)patients with severe pancreatitis(P=1.000). The frequency of the pathological values of fecal elastase-1 was significantly different from that of various etiologies of the disease(P=0.030).It was significantly lower in patients with biliary pancreatitis(9.8%;P=0.035)than in one patient with alcoholic pancreatitis(P=0.126),one patient with hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis(33.3%; P=0.708),and one patient with idiopathic pancreatitis (10.0%;P=0.227).Pathological fecal elastase-1 was not significantly related to sex,age or day of refeeding.CONCLUSION:Exocrine pancreatic function should be routinely assessed in patients with acute pancreatitis at the time of refeeding in order to supplement their diet with pancreatic extracts.Raffaele Pezzilli Patrizia Simoni Riccardo Casadei Antonio M.Morselli-Labate 2009Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2009,8,3:2
