| 5 | A journey to understand wheat Fusarium head blight resistance in the Chinese wheat landrace Wangshuibai显示文摘Fusarium head blight(FHB) or scab caused by Fusarium graminearum is a major threat to wheat production in China as well as in the world. To combat this disease, multiple efforts have been carried out internationally. In this article, we review our long-time effort in identifying the resistance genes and dissecting the resistance mechanisms by both forward and reverse genetics approaches in the last two decades. We present recent progress in resistance QTL identification, candidate functional gene discovery, marker-assisted improvement of FHB resistant varieties, and findings in investigating association of signal molecules, such as Ca^(++),SA, JA, and ET, with FHB response, with the assistance from rapidly growing genomics platforms. | 6 | Review of gallium-oxide-based solar-blind ultraviolet photodetectors显示文摘Solar-blind photodetectors are of great interest to a wide range of industrial, civil, environmental, and biological applications. As one of the emerging ultrawide-bandgap semiconductors, gallium oxide(Ga_2O_3) exhibits unique advantages over other wide-bandgap semiconductors, especially in developing high-performance solar-blind photodetectors. This paper comprehensively reviews the latest progresses of solar-blind photodetectors based on Ga_2O_3 materials in various forms of bulk single crystal, epitaxial films, nanostructures, and their ternary alloys.The basic working principles of photodetectors and the fundamental properties and synthesis of Ga_2O_3, as well as device processing developments, have been briefly summarized. A special focus is to address the physical mechanism for commonly observed huge photoconductive gains. | 10 | In-situ measure to internal stress of shotcrete layer in soft-rock roadway显示文摘In order to solve the difficult conditions of soft rock,water-trickling and hard-maintain of main air-return roadway in Tarangaole Colliery,high pretensioned stress and intensive bolt-shotcrete support program was designed and mechanical property of shotcrete layer was specially monitored through utilizing a type of concrete stress meter with oscillating chord after the program was carried out.It was indicated that,due to rock pressure and support resistance,the interior of shotcrete layer would emerge diverse stresses in axial,radial and tangential directions.With time passing internal stresses in three directions,whose average values were-0.061,0.043 and 0.517 MPa respectively,fluctuated first and then tended to stability slowly.The axial and radial stresses were relatively smaller than tangential stress which was 11,12 times the two formers respectively.Along the section of roadway,axial and tangential stresses distributed symmetrically and increased gradually from the top of arch to the waist of wall,but reduced at the foot of wall.Radial stresses reduced from the top of arch to the waist of arch first,and then increased in the waist of wall.Axial stresses were tensile substantially,except for stresses in arch vault tending to compressive,but all the radial stresses were compressive.Nevertheless,tangential stresses in the wall were compressive and tangential stresses in the arch were tensile.During the period of roadway excavating,the stress of shotcrete layer was less than its ultimate bearing capacity,with no significant stress concentration.At the end of this article,some suggests are given to shotcrete support design. | Shulin Fang Jian Zhang | 2014 | International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2014,1,3: | 13 |
| 11 | A hybrid invisibility cloak based on integration of transparent metasurfaces and zero-index materials显示文摘The invisibility cloak,a long-standing fantastic dream for humans,has become more tangible with the development of metamaterials.Recently,metasurface-based invisibility cloaks have been proposed and realized with significantly reduced thickness and complexity of the cloaking shell.However,the previous scheme is based on reflection-type metasurfaces and is thus limited to reflection geometry.In this work,by integrating the wavefront tailoring functionality of transparent metasurfaces and the wave tunneling functionality of zero-index materials,we have realized a unique type of hybrid invisibility cloak that functions in transmission geometry.The principle is general and applicable to arbitrary shapes.For experimental demonstration,we constructed a rhombic double-layer cloaking shell composed of a highly transparent metasurface and a double-zero medium consisting of dielectric photonic crystals with Dirac cone dispersions.The cloaking effect is verified by both full-wave simulations and microwave experimental results.The principle also reveals exciting possibilities for realizing skin-thick ultrathin cloaking shells in transmission geometry,which can eliminate the need for spatially varying extreme parameters.Our work paves a path for novel optical and electromagnetic devices based on the integration of metasurfaces and metamaterials. | Hongchen Chu Qi Li Bingbing Liu Jie Luo Shulin Sun Zhi Hong Hang Lei Zhou Yun Lai | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 13 |

| 17 | Type 1 CD8^+ T Cells are Superior to Type 2 CD8^+ T Cells in Tumor Immunotherapy due to Their Efficient Cytotoxicity,Prolonged Survival and Type 1 Immune Modulation显示文摘CD8+ cytotoxic T(Tc) cells play a crucial role in host immune responses to cancer,and in this context,adoptive CD8+ Tc cell therapy has been studied in numerous animal tumor models. Its antitumor efficacy is,to a large extent,determined by the ability of Tc cells to survive and infiltrate tumors. In clinical trials,such in vitro-activated T cells often die within hours to days,and this greatly limits their therapeutic efficacy. CD8+ Tc cells fall into two subpopulations based upon their differential cytokine secretion. In this study,we in vitro generated that ovalbumin(OVA) -pulsed dendritic cell(DCOVA) -activated CD8+ type 1 Tc(Tc1) cells secreting IFN-γ,and CD8+ type 2 Tc(Tc2) cells secreting IL-4,IL-5 and IL-10,which were derived from OVA-specific T cell receptor(TCR) transgenic OT I mice. We then systemically investigated the in vitro and in vivo effector function and survival of Tc1 and Tc2 cells,and then assessed their survival kinetics after adoptively transferred into C57BL/6 mice,respectively. We demonstrated that,when compared to CD8+ Tc2,Tc1 cells were significantly more effective in perforin-mediated cytotoxicity to tumor cells,had a significantly higher capacity for in vivo survival after the adoptive T cell transfer,and had a significantly stronger therapeutic effect on eradication of well-established tumors expressing OVA in animal models. In addition,CD8+ Tc1 and Tc2 cells skewed the phenotype of CD4+ T cells toward Th1 and Th2 type,respectively. | 19 | Characterization of Air Pollution in Urban Areas of Yangtze River Delta,China显示文摘The hallmark of development in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) of East China has been sprawling urbanization. However, air pollution is a significant problem in these urban areas. In this paper, we investigated and analyzed the air pollution index(API) in four cities(Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Ningbo) in the YRD from 2001 to 2012. We attempted to empirically examine the relationship between meteorological factors and air quality in the urban areas of the YRD. According to the monitoring data, the API in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou slightly declined and that in Ningbo increased over the study period. We analyzed the inter-annual, seasonal, and monthly variations of API, from which we found that the air quality had different temporal changes in the four cities. It was indicated that air quality was poor in winter and spring and best in summer. Furthermore, different weather conditions affected air quality level. The wind direction was considered as an important and influential factor to air pollution, which has an impact on the accumulating or cleaning processes of pollutants.
