2Simulation of dynamic fluid-solid interactions with an improved direct-forcing immersed boundary method显示文摘Dynamic fluid-solid interactions are widely found in chemical engineering,such as in particle-laden flows,which usually contain complex moving boundaries.The immersed boundary method(IBM) is a convenient approach to handle fluid-solid interactions with complex geometries.In this work,Uhlmann's direct-forcing IBM is improved and implemented on a supercomputer with CPU-GPU hybrid architecture.The direct-forcing IBM is modified as follows:the Poisson's equation for pressure is solved before evaluation of the body force,and the force is only distributed to the Cartesian grids inside the immersed boundary.A multidirect forcing scheme is used to evaluate the body force.These modifications result in a divergence-free flow field in the fluid domain and the no-slip boundary condition at the immersed boundary simultaneously.This method is implemented in an explicit finite-difference fractional-step scheme,and validated by 2D simulations of lid-driven cavity flow,Couette flow between two concentric cylinders and flow over a circular cylinder.Finally,the method is used to simulate the sedimentation of two circular particles in a channel.The results agree very well with previous experimental and numerical data,and are more accurate than the conventional direct-forcing method,especially in the vicinity of a moving boundary.Shengbin Di Wei Ge 2015Particuology2015,13,1:6
3Hypoxia-mimicking 3D bioglass-nanoclay scaffolds promote endogenous bone regeneration显示文摘Large bone defect repair requires biomaterials that promote angiogenesis and osteogenesis.In present work,a nanoclay(Laponite,XLS)-functionalized 3D bioglass(BG)scaffold with hypoxia mimicking property was prepared by foam replication coupled with UV photopolymerization methods.Our data revealed that the incorporation of XLS can significantly promote the mechanical property of the scaffold and the osteogenic differentiation of human adipose mesenchymal stem cells(ADSCs)compared to the properties of the neat BG scaffold.Desferoxamine,a hypoxia mimicking agent,encourages bone regeneration via activating hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha(HIF-1α)-mediated angiogenesis.GelMA-DFO immobilization onto BG-XLS scaffold achieved sustained DFO release and inhibited DFO degradation.Furthermore,in vitro data demonstrated increased HIF-1αand vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)expressions on human adipose mesenchymal stem cells(ADSCs).Moreover,BG-XLS/GelMA-DFO scaffolds also significantly promoted the osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs.Most importantly,our in vivo data indicated BG-XLS/GelMA-DFO scaffolds strongly increased bone healing in a critical-sized mouse cranial bone defect model.Therefore,we developed a novel BG-XLS/GelMA-DFO scaffold which can not only induce the expression of VEGF,but also promote osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs to promote endogenous bone regeneration.Xiao Zheng Xiaorong Zhang Yingting Wang Yangxi Liu Yining Pan Yijia Li Man Ji Xueqin Zhao Shengbin Huang Qingqing Yao 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,10:4
4Altitudinal patterns of maximum plant height on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Aims Several studies have shown that plant height changes along environmen-tal gradients.However,altitudinal patterns of plant height across species are still unclear,especially in regions sensitive to climate change.As canopy height decreases dramatically near the tree line in alpine areas,we hypothesize that plant height across all species also decreases with increasing altitude,and distinct thresholds exist along this gradient.Methods Using a large dataset of maximum plant height and elevation range(400 to 6000 m a.s.l.)of 4295 angiosperms from the regional flora of the Tibetan Plateau,we regressed plant height for every 100 m belt against elevation to explore the relationships.To identify the approximate boundaries where dramatic changes in plant height occurs for herbaceous plants,shrubs,trees,woody plants and all angiosperms,we used piecewise linear regression.Phylogenetically independent contrast was used to test the potential evolutionary influences on altitudinal patterns at the family level.Important Findings Results showed that for herbaceous plants,shrubs,trees,woody plants and all angiosperms,plant height decreases significantly as altitude increases.In addition,we found that altitude,a proxy for many environmental factors,had obvious thresholds(breakpoints)dictating patterns of plant height.The results of phylogenetically independent contrast also emphasized the importance of evolution-ary history in determining the altitudinal patterns of plant height for some growth forms.Our results highlight the relative intense filter-ing effect of environmental factors in shaping patterns of functional traits and how this could vary for different ranges of environmental variables.Lingfeng Mao Shengbin Chen Jinlong Zhang Guangsheng Zhou 2018Journal of Plant Ecology2018,11,1:3
5Tracing of dye molecules in living plants through NaGdF_4:Yb^(3+),Er^(3+)fluorescent nanoprobes显示文摘In this paper, we demonstrated trace of dye molecules in living plants. The NaGdF4:Yb^(3+),Er^(3+) nanoparticles probe was used to detect the rhodamine B(RhB) in bean sprout. It is found that the fluorescencedye can be efficiently imbibed during the growing process and the absorbance presented a position dependence effect, which was supported by the upconversion spectra and the fluorescent image characterization. In addition, the concentration of the residual RhB in bean sprout can be efficiently traced by the synthesized probe based on the fluorescent resonant energy transfer. Finally, the relation between the excitation power, concentration and the ratio of yellow to green emission are discussed in detail. 6STM and XPS study on the self-assembled films of Schiff base on copper surface显示文摘SAMs (self-assembled monolayers) of Schiff base were prepared on the copper surface, and characterized by the modern technique of surface analysis. The results demonstrated that the well-ordered and densely packed SAMs of N-2-hydroxyphenyl-(3-methoxy-salicylidenimine), designated as V-bso, were formed on the Cu(lll) surface. And two benzene rings in the V-bso molecule were not flat on the copper surface, but tilted at a certain angle. 7Reinvestigation on species richness and environmental correlates of bryophytes at a regional scale in China显示文摘Aims The aim of this article is 4-fold:(i)to update species richness of bryophytes for each of the Chinese provinces based on the most current knowledge on distributions of bryophytes in China,(ii)to provide a set of analyses based on the updated species richness data and the environmental variables used in a recent article on species richness of bryophytes in China,(iii)to expand the analysis presented in the recent article by relating species richness of bryophytes to over 15 additional climatic variables and(iv)to determine the degree to which the relationships between bryophyte species richness and environmental variables that were reported in the recent article might have been biased.Methods Over 180 literatures with national,provincial and local species lists of bryophytes in China were used in this study.Taxonomy and nomenclature of bryophytes in China were standardized according to The Plant List.Correlation and regression analyses were used to examine the relationships between species richness or species density of bryophytes in Chinese provinces and environmental variables.Important Findings On average,each Chinese province possesses 700.6 species of bryophytes,which is 112.1 species more than previously reported.With the updated species richness data reported in this study,stronger relationships between species richness of bryophytes and environmental variables have been found,compared with those found in a recently published study for China.When single environmental variables were considered,precipitation-related variables were,on average,more strongly correlated with species richness and species density than were temperature-related variables.Environmental variables were on average correlated more strongly with species density than with species richness of bryophytes at the regional scale in China.Our study showed that measures quantifying the average and variation of environmental conditions within each Chinese province explained 82.7%and 71.1%of the variation in species richness of liverworts and mosses,respectively,and explained 86.5%and 70.7%of the variation in species density of liverworts and mosses,respectively.Hong Qian Shengbin Chen 2016Journal of Plant Ecology2016,9,6:2
8Alisol B 23-acetate-induced HepG2 hepatoma cell death through mTOR signaling-initiated G_1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis: A quantitative proteomic study显示文摘Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the molecular events in alisol B 23-acetate(ABA) cytotoxic activity against a liver cancer cell line.Methods: First, we employed a quantitative proteomics approach based on stable isotope labeling by amino acids in cell culture(SILAC) to identify the different proteins expressed in HepG2 liver cancer cells upon exposure to ABA. Next, bioinformatics analyses through DAVID and STRING on-line tools were used to predict the pathways involved. Finally, we applied functional validation including cell cycle analysis and Western blotting for apoptosis and mTOR pathway-related proteins to confirm the bioinformatics predictions.Results: We identified 330 different proteins with the SILAC-based quantitative proteomics approach. The bioinformatics analysis and the functional validation revealed that the mTOR pathway, ribosome biogenesis, cell cycle, and apoptosis pathways were differentially regulated by ABA. G1 cell cycle arrest, apoptosis and mTOR inhibition were confirmed.Conclusions: ABA, a potential mTOR inhibitor, induces the disruption of ribosomal biogenesis. 14Numerical simulation of stirred tanks using a hybrid immersed-boundary method显示文摘Conventionally, multiple reference frame(MRF) method and sliding mesh(SM) method are used in the simulation of stirred tanks, however, both methods have limitations. In this study, a hybrid immersed-boundary(IB)technique is developed in a finite difference context for the numerical simulation of stirred tanks. IBs based on Lagrangian markers and solid volume fractions are used for moving and stationary boundaries, respectively, to achieve optimal efficiency and accuracy. To cope with the high computational cost in the simulation of stirred tanks, the technique is implemented on computers with hybrid architecture where central processing units(CPUs) and graphics processing units(GPUs) are used together. The accuracy and efficiency of the present technique are first demonstrated in a relatively simple case, and then the technique is applied to the simulation of turbulent flow in a Rushton stirred tank with large eddy simulation(LES). Finally the proposed methodology is coupled with discrete element method(DEM) to accomplish particle-resolved simulation of solid suspensions in small stirred tanks. 16Extraction Process and Content Determination of Caffeic Acid in Laggera alata from Different Production Areas of Guangxi显示文摘[Objectives] To establish a method for determining the content of Laggera alata( D. Ex Oliv. using caffeic acid the target component,and to compare the content of caffeic acid in the medicinal materials of L. alata in different production areas of Guangxi.[Methods]The content was determined by Inertsil~ODS-3 chromatographic column C_(18)( 4. 60 mm × 250 mm,5 μm,mobile phase: acetonitrile-0. 1% phosphoric acid( 22∶ 78),detection wavelength: 320 nm,flow rate: 1. 0 m L/min,column temperature: 30℃,and injection volume: 10 μL. [Results] The caffeic acid showed a good linear relationship in the range of injection volume of 0. 025 92-0. 259 2 μg( R =0. 999 5). The average recovery rate was 98. 33%( RSD = 1. 85%). L. alata in different production areas of Guangxi contained the caffeic acid,and there was a great difference in the caffeic acid. L. alata in Baise had the highest content of caffeic acid,while that in Guilin had the lowest content of caffeic acid.
