| 9 | Canine distemper virus as a threat to wild tigers in Russia and across their range显示文摘Canine distemper virus(CDV)has recently been identified in populations of wild tigers in Russia and India.Tiger populations are generally too small to maintain CDV for long periods,but are at risk of infections arising from more abundant susceptible hosts that constitute a reservoir of infection.Because CDV is an additive mortality factor,it could represent a significant threat to small,isolated tiger populations.In Russia,CDV was associated with the deaths of tigers in 2004 and 2010,and was coincident with a localized decline of tigers in Sikhote-Alin Biosphere Zapovednik(from 25 tigers in 2008 to 9 in 2012).Habitat continuity with surrounding areas likely played an important role in promoting an ongoing recovery.We recommend steps be taken to assess the presence and the impact of CDV in all tiger range states,but should not detract focus away from the primary threats to tigers,which include habitat loss and fragmentation,poaching and retaliatory killing.Research priorities include:(i)recognition and diagnosis of clinical cases of CDV in tigers when they occur;and(ii)collection of baseline data on the health of wild tigers.CDV infection of individual tigers need not imply a conservation threat,and modeling should complement disease surveillance and targeted research to assess the potential impact to tiger populations across the range of ecosystems,population densities and climate extremes occupied by tigers.Describing the role of domestic and wild carnivores as contributors to a local CDV reservoir is an important precursor to considering control measures. | Martin GILBERT Svetlana V.SOUTYRINA Ivan V.SERYODKIN Nadezhda SULIKHAN Olga V.UPHYRKINA Mikhail GONCHARUK Louise MATTHEWS Sarah CLEAVELAND Dale G.MIQUELLE | 2015 | Integrative Zoology2015,10,4: | 1 |

| 12 | Laser ablation(in situ)Lu-Hf dating of magmatic fluorite and hydrothermal fluorite-bearing veins显示文摘Fluorite(CaF_(2))is a common hydrothermal mineral,which precipitates from fluorine-rich fluids with an exceptional capacity to transport metals and Rare Earth Elements(REEs).Hence,the ability to date fluorite has important implications for understanding the timing of metal transport in hydrothermal systems.Here we present,for the first time,fluorite Lu-Hf dates from fluorite-carbonate veins from the Olympic Cu-Au Province in South Australia.The fluorite dates were obtained in situ using the recently developed LA-ICP-MS/MS Lu-Hf dating method.A fluorite-calcite age of 1588±19 Ma was obtained for the Torrens Dam prospect,consistent with the timing of the formation of the nearby Olympic Dam iron-oxide copper gold Breccia Complex.Veins in the overlying Neoproterozoic successions were dated at 502±14 Ma,indicating a temporal link between Cu-sulphide remobilisation and the Delamerian Orogeny.Additionally,we present a multi-session reproducible date for magmatic fluorite from a monzogranite in the Pilbara Craton(Lu-Hf age of 2866±19 Ma).This age is consistent with a garnet Lu-Hf age from the same sample(2850±12 Ma)and holds potential to be developed into a secondary reference material for future fluorite Lu-Hf dating. | Stijn Glorie Jacob Mulder Martin Hand Adrian Fabris Alexander Simpson Sarah Gilbert | 2023 | Geoscience Frontiers2023,14,6: | 0 |

| 15 | Comparing the demographic data and outcomes of septic shock patients presenting to teaching or non-teaching metropolitan hospitals in the United States显示文摘BACKGROUND:Studies looking at the effect of hospital teaching status on septic shock related in-hospital mortality are lacking.The aim of this study was to examine the effect of hospital teaching status on mortality in septic shock patients in the United States.METHODS:This was a retrospective observational study,using the Nationwide Emergency Department Sample Database(released in 2018).All patients with septic shock were included.Complex sample logistic regression was performed to assess the impact of hospital teaching status on patient mortality.RESULTS:A total of 388,552 septic shock patients were included in the study.The average age was 66.93 years and 51.7%were males.Most of the patients presented to metropolitan teaching hospitals(68.2%)and 31.8%presented to metropolitan non-teaching hospitals.Septic shock patients presenting to teaching hospitals were found to have a higher percentage of medical comorbidities,were more likely to be intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation(50.5%vs.46.9%)and had a longer average length of hospital stay(12.47 d vs.10.20 d).Septic shock patients presenting to teaching hospitals had greater odds of in-hospital mortality compared to those presenting to metropolitan non-teaching hospitals(adjusted odd ratio[OR]=1.295,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.256-1.335).CONCLUSION:Septic shock patients presenting to metropolitan teaching hospitals had significantly higher risks of mortality than those presenting to metropolitan non-teaching hospitals.They also had higher rates of intubation and mechanical ventilation as well as longer lengths of hospital stay than those in non-teaching hospitals. | Ralph Bou Chebl Nadim Kattouf Mohamad Assaf Saadeddine Haidar Gilbert Abou Dagher Sarah Abdul Nabi Rana Bachir Mazen El Sayed | 2022 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2022,13,6: | 0 |
