| 1 | Pure and Mg-doped self-assembled ZnO nano-particles for the enhanced photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol显示文摘A novel self-assembled pure and Mg doped ZnO nano-particles(NPs) were successfully synthesized by a simple low temperature co-precipitation method. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray difraction, high resolution scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, difuse reflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy.The results indicated that the prepared photocatalysts showed high crystallinity with a uniform size distribution of the NPS. The degradation of cholorphenols is highly mandatory in today's scenario as they are afecting the environment adversely. Thus, the photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol(4-CP), a potent endocrine disrupting chemical in aqueous medium was investigated by both pure and Mg-doped ZnO NPs under UV-light irradiation in the present study. The influence of the Mg content on the structure,morphology, PL character and photocatalytic activity of ZnO NPs were investigated systematically. | 2 | Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles by using mangrove plant extract and their potential mosquito larvicidal property显示文摘Objective:To identify the larvicidal activities of silver nano particles synthesised with Rhizophora mucronata(R.mucronata) leaf extract against the larvae of Aedes aegypti(Ae.aegypti) and Culex quinquefasciatus(Cx.quinquefasciatus).Methods:In vitro larvicidal activities such as LC50 and LC90 were assessed for the Ae.aegypti and Cx.quinquefasciatus larval species.Further, characterisation such as UV,XRD,FTIR and AFM analysis were carried out for the synthesised silver nano particles.Results:The LC50 value of the synthesised silver nano particle was identified as 0.585 and 0.891 mgg/L for Ae.aegypti and Cx.quinquefasciatus larvae respectively. | 4 | Antimicrobial and hemolytic activity of fish epidermal mucus Cynoglossus arel and Arius caelatus显示文摘Objective:To study the antimicrobial,hemolytic activity and immunomodulatory activity of fish epidermal mucus and their chemical constituents from Cynoglossus arel(C.arel) and Alius caelatus(A.caelatus).Mucus plays an important role in the prevention of colonization by parasites,bacteria and fungi.Methods:Epidermal mucus was obtained from two marine fishes,lyophilized and the chemical composition of epidermal mucus was analysed by FT-IR analysis.The in vitro antimicrobial activity against human pathogens(fungi,gram positive and gram-negative bacteria) and also the hemolytic activity and immunomodulatory activity were determined.Results:Totally ten human pathogens were tested against the fish mucus.Out of the ten pathogens,five pathogens have proved to be sensitive to the mucus.Maximum zone of inhibition was observed against Vibrio cholera(V.cholera)(9 mm and 2 mm in diameter),followed by Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus) with a inhibition zone of(6 mm and 3 mm),Streptococcus areus(S.areus)(5 mm and 4 mm),Vibrio parahemolyticus(V.parahemolyticus)(4 mm and 5 mm) respectively.Conclusions:The present investigation has revealed that positive progresses in the fish mucus extracts against human pathogens and hemolytic activity.But further efforts are required for the purification and isolation of the active antimicrobial compounds in order to establish their possible applications. | Subramanian Bragadeeswaran Selvam Priyadharshini Kolandhasamy Prabhu Solomon Raj Sophia Rani | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,4: | 3 |

| 8 | Characterization of cytotoxic compound from marine sediment derived actinomycete Streptomyces avidinii strain SU4显示文摘Objective:To investigate the cytotoxic activity of actinomycete isolated from marine sediment.Methods:In the present study the DNA was isolated and the ITS region of 16s rRNA was amplified by polymerase chain reaction,using two universal bacterial primers,1492K(5'-GGTTACCTTG'TTAC GACTT-3')and Eubac27F(5'-AGAGTTTGATCCTGGCTC AG-3').The amplified products were purified using TIANgel mini purification kit,ligated to MD18-T simple vector(TaKaRa),and transformed into competent cells of Escherichia coli DH5α.16S rRNA gene fragment was sequenced using forward primer M13F(-47)and reverse primer M13R(-48).Blast search sequence similarity was found against the existing non-redundanl nucleotide sequence database thus,identified as Streptomyces sp SU,Streptomyces rubralavandulae strain SU1,Streptomyces cacaoi strain SU2,Streptomyces cavourensis strain SU3,Streptomyces avidinii strain SU4,Streptomyces globisporus strain SU5,Streptomyces variabilis strain SU6,Streptomyces coelicolor strain SU 7.Among the eight identified isolates,one actinomycete Streptomyces avidinii strain SU4 was selected for further study.Results:Crude extract of the actinomycete isolate exhibited IC_(50)in 64.5μg against Hep-2 cell line,250μg in VERO cell line.This value is very close to the criteria of cytotoxicity activity for the crude extracts,as established by the American National Cancer Institute(NCI)is in IC_(50)<30μg/mL.The CC MS analysis showed that the active principle might be 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid,bis(2-methylpropyl)ester(12.17%),isooctyl phthalate(15.29%)with the retention time 15.642 and 21.612,respectively.Conclusions:This study clearly proves that the marine sediment derived actinomycetes with bioactive metabolites can be expected to provide high quality biological material for high throughout biochemical and anticancer screening programs.These results help us to conclude that the potential of using metabolic engineering and post genomic approaches to isolate more bioactive compounds and make their possible commercial application is not far off. | Sudha S Masilamani Selvam M | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,10: | 2 |

| 12 | Molecular modeling studies of repandusinic acid as potent small molecule for hepatitis B virus through molecular docking and ADME analysis显示文摘Background:Hepatitis B virus(HBV)has affected over 300 million people worldwide which causes to induce mostly liver disease and liver cancer.It is a member of the family Hepadnaviridae which is a small DNA virus with unusual characters like retroviruses.Generally,hepatoprotective drugs provoke some side effects in human beings.For the reason,this study aims to identify alternative drug molecules from the natural source of medicinal plants with smaller quantity of side effects than those conventional drugs in treating HBV.Methods:We developed computational methods for calculating drug and target binding resemblance using the Maestro v10.2 of Schrodinger suite.The target and ligand molecules were obtained from recognized databases.Ligand molecules of 40 phytoconstituents were retrieved from variety of plants after we executed crucial analyses such as molecular docking and absorption,distribution,metabolism,and excretion(ADME)analysis.Results:In the docking analysis,the natural analogues repandusinic acid showed better docking scores of-14.768 with good binding contacts.The remaining bioactive molecules corilagin,furosin,nirurin,iso-quercetin and gallocatechin also showed better docking scores.Conclusions:This computational analysis reveals that repandusinic acid is a suitable drug candidate for HBV.Therefore,we recommend that this analogue is suitable in further exploration using in vitro studies. | Vijayakumar Subramaniyan Reetha Sekar Arulmozhi Praveenkumar Rajalakshmi Selvam | 2019 | Quantitative Biology2019,7,4: | 2 |
