| 1 | An online maximum power point capturing technique for highefficiency power generation of solar photovoltaic systems显示文摘This paper proposes a novel high-efficiency generation technique for photovoltaic(PV) system,named maximum power point capturing(MPPC) technique. This is an aperiodic perturbation MPPC technique compared to the conventional periodic perturbation maximum power point tracking technique. Firstly, under a closed-loop circuit and an open-loop circuit,the complete I-V curves and P-V curves are defined. Secondly, the proposed MPPC technique is based on the complete I-V curves and a practical model of solar PV systems.The proposed method realizes that maximum power point(MPP) is captured online, and its control strategy is designed to set a steady operating area around MPP. The duty cycle keeps constant when the operating point is within the steady operating area, i.e., aperiodic perturbation, and when the operating point is outside the steady operating area, MPPC is triggered to capture a new MPP with an updated steady operating area. Simulation results demonstrate that no oscillations exist in steady-state;dynamic performances are improved;and only two perturbations are required to capture the new MPP. | 3 | Spontaneous combustion liability between coal seams: A thermogravimetric study显示文摘The spontaneous combustion liability of coal can be determined by using different experimental techniques.These techniques are well-known in their application,but no certain test method has become a standard to prove the reliability of all of them.A general characterisation which included proximate and ultimate analyses,petrographic properties and spontaneous combustion tests(thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and the Wits-Ehac tests)were conducted on fourteen coal and four coal-shale samples.The spontaneous combustion liability of these samples collected between coal seams(above and below)were predicted using the TGA and the Wits-Ehac tests.Six different heating rates(3,6,9,15,20 and 25C/min)were selected based on the deviation coefficient to obtain different derivative slopes and a liability index termed the TGspc index.This study found that coal and coal-shale undergo spontaneous combustion between coal seams when exposed to oxygen in the air.Their intrinsic properties and proneness towards spontaneous combustion differ considerably from one seam to the other.The Wits-Ehac test results agreed with the TGspc results to a certain extent and revealed the incidents of spontaneous combustion in the coal mines. | Moshood Onifade Bekir Genc Samson Bada | 2020 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020,30,5: | 6 |

| 8 | Electrostatic concentration of phosphate flotation concentrate显示文摘The concentration of phosphate flotation concentrate with P2O5 grade lower than the commercially acceptable phosphate quality was upgraded in the use of tribo-electrostatic technique. The concentration of the flotation concentrate stream was conducted under both triboelectrification and inductive charging mechanism. Mineralogical analysis reveals that the phosphate ore utilized was dominated mainly by fluorapatite, crandallite, wavellite, and with quartz as the major gangue mineral. Flotations concentrate of about 28.87% P2O5 was obtained from the reverse flotation technique, after conditioning the phosphate ore at 80% passing 150 lm under Lilafloat. Constant parameters such as à6 kV charging voltage, 25 kV separating voltage, inlet air, different charger rotary speed and splitter distances were investigated. Commercially accepted grade of 35.50% P2O5 was attained after the second stage of separation with a recovery of 12.26%, another phosphate product of 34.02% P2O5 and 85.19% was also recovered under the same condition. Single stage of separation also shows a significant increase in the grade of the product obtained, with 33.41% P2O5 and 84.07% recovery achievable. | 9 | Prokineticin 2/Bv8 is expressed in Kupffer cells in liver and is down regulated in human hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To study the implication of prokineticin 1 (PK1/EG- VEGF) and prokineticin 2 (PK2/Bv8) in hepatocellular carcinoma angiogenesis. METHODS: The gene induction of PK1/EG-VEGF and PK2/Bv8 was investigated in 10 normal, 28 fibrotic and 28 tumoral livers by using real time PCR. Their expression was compared to the expression of VEGF (an angiogenesis marker), vWF (an endothelial cell marker) and to CD68 (a monocyte/macrophage marker). Furthermore, the mRNA levels of PK1/EG-VEGF, PK2/Bv8, prokineticin receptor 1 and 2 were evaluated by real time PCR in isolated liver cell populations. Finally, PK2/Bv8 protein was detected in normal liver paraffin sections and in isolated liver cells by immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry. RESULTS: PK2/Bv8 mRNA but not PK1/EG-VEGF was expressed in all types of normal liver samples examined. In the context of liver tumor development, we reported that PK2/Bv8 correlates only with CD68 and showed a significant decrease in expression as the pathology evolves towards cancer. Whereas, VEGF and vWF mRNA were significantly upregulated in both fibrosis and HCC,as expected. In addition, out of all isolated liver cells examined, only Kupffer cells (liver resident macrophages) express significant levels of PK2/Bv8 and its receptors, prokineticin receptor 1 and 2. CONCLUSION: In normal liver PK2/Bv8 and its receptors were specifically expressed by Kupffer cells. | 10 | Diversity and distribution patterns of non-volant smallmammals along different elevation gradients on Mt. Kenya,Kenya显示文摘The distribution of small mammals in mountainous environments across different elevations can provide important information on the effects of climate change on the dispersal of species. However, few studies conducted on Afromontane ecosystems have compared the altitudinal patterns of small mammal diversity. We investigated the species diversity and abundance of non-volant small mammals(hereafter ‘small mammals')on Mt. Kenya, the second tallest mountain in Africa,using a standard sampling scheme. Nine sampling transects were established at intervals of 200 m on the eastern(Chogoria) and western(Sirimon) slopes.A total of 1 905 individuals representing 25 species of small mammals were trapped after 12 240 trap-nights.Abundance was highest at mid-elevations on both slopes.However, species richness and their distribution patterns differed between the two slopes. More species were recorded on Chogoria(24) than on Sirimon(17). On Chogoria, species richness was higher at mid-high elevations, with a peak at mid-elevation(2 800 m a.s.l.),whereas species richness showed little variation on the Sirimon slope. These results indicate that patterns of species diversity can differ between slopes on the same mountain. In addition, we extensively reviewed literature on Mt. Kenya's mammals and compiled a comprehensive checklist of 76 mammalian species. | 15 | Phenolics extract of Tetrapleura tetraptera fruit inhibits xanthine oxidase and Fe^2+-induced lipid peroxidation in the kidney,liver,and lungs tissues of rats in vitro显示文摘The phenolics composition and inhibitory activity of Tetrapleura tetraptera fruit extract on xanthine oxidase(XO)and Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation in the kidney,liver and lungs tissues of rats were evaluated in vitro.Phenolics(flavonoids and phenolic acids)were quantified using reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatrography coupled with diode array detection(HPLC-DAD).The XO and Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation inhibitory abilities of the extract were evaluated using spectrophotometric methods.The extract contained some flavonoids and phenolic acids,including catechin,epicatechin,rutin,quercetin,luteolin,apigenin;gallic,chlorogenic,caffeic and ellagic acids that are beneficial to health.The extract inhibited XO in the kidney,liver and lungs tissues in a dose-dependent manner.The half-maximal inhibitory concentrations(IC50)of the extract on XO from the tissues varied significantly(P<0.05),and were in the order of liver>kidney>lungs.The extract also inhibited Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependent pattern,having IC50 in the order of liver>lungs>kidney.T.tetraptera fruit extract could be a promising nutraceutical for preventing and managing hyperuricaemia and the associated disease conditions,due to its ability to inhibit XO;this bioactivity is attributable to combined effect of its flavonoids and phenolic acids. | Emmanuel Anyachukwu Irondi Ganiyu Oboh Samson Olalekan Agboola Aline Augusti Boligon Margareth Linde Athayde | 2016 | Food Science and Human Wellness2016,5,1: | 3 |

| 17 | Efficacy of praziquantel on Schistosoma haematobium and re-infection rates among school-going children in the Ndumo area of uMkhanyakude district,KwaZulu-Natal,South Africa显示文摘Background:Despite its low cure rates and possible resistance,praziquantel(PZQ)is the only drug available for schistosomiasis treatment.Hence,monitoring its efficacy is crucial.This study assessed the efficacy of PZQ,determined re-infection and incidence rates of Schistosoma haematobium infection among school-going children in the Ndumo area,KwaZulu-Natal.Methods:A cohort of 320 school-going children(10-15 years)in 10 primary schools was screened for S.haematobium infection using the filtration technique.Infected children were treated at different times and hence were divided into two sub-cohorts;A1 and A2.Non-infected children constituted the sub-cohort B.Children who continued excreting viable eggs 4 weeks post-treatment received a second dose of PZQ.Re-infection rates were determined in sub-cohort A1 and A2 at 28 and 20 weeks post-treatment,respectively.Cure rates(CR)and egg reduction rates(ERR)were calculated.Incidence rate was assessed 28 weeks post baseline survey using children that were negative for schistosome eggs at that survey.Analysis of data was done using the Chi square and the Wilcoxon rank test.A 95%confidence interval with a P-value<0.05 determined significance.Results:At baseline,120(37.5%)of the 320 study participants were found infected with Schistosoma haematobium.Heavy infections accounted for 36.7%.The calculated cure rates were 88.07%and 82.92%for females and males,respectively.Egg Reduction Rates of 80%and 64%for females and males were observed 4 weeks after the initial treatment.After the second treatment,CR was 100%in females and 50%in males with an ERR of 100%in females and 70%in males.At 20 and 28 weeks post treatment,reinfection rates of 8.03%and 8.00%were observed,respectively,giving an overall rate of 8.1%.An incidence rate of 4.1%was observed 28 weeks after the baseline screening.Conclusions:The study indicated high CR while the ERR was low suggesting a reduced PZQ efficacy.The efficacy improved among females after the second dose.Re-infection rates at 20 and 28 weeks posttreatment were low.The study also indicated a low incidence rate for the 28 weeks period. | Muhubiri Kabuyaya Moses John Chimbari Tawanda Manyangadze Samson Mukaratirwa | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 3 |

| 20 | Schistosomiasis in Zambia:a systematic review of past and present experiences显示文摘Background:The speedy rate of change in the environmental and socio-economics factors may increase the incidence,prevalence and risk of schistosomiasis infections in Zambia.However,available information does not provide a comprehensive understanding of the biogeography and distribution of the disease,ecology and population dynamics of intermediate host snails.The current study used an information-theoretical approach to understand the biogeography and prevalence schistosomiasis and identified knowledge gaps that would be useful to improve policy towards surveillance and eradication of intermediate hosts snails in Zambia.Methods:To summarise the existing knowledge and build on past and present experiences of schistosomiasis epidemiology for effective disease control in Zambia,a systematic search of literature for the period 2000-2017 was done on PubMed,Google Scholar and EBSCOhost.Using the key words:‘Schistosomiasis’,‘Biomphalaria’,‘Bulinus’,‘Schistosoma mansoni’,‘Schistosoma haematobium’,and‘Zambia’,in combination with Booleans terms‘AND’and‘OR’,published reports/papers were obtained and reviewed independently for inclusion.Results:Thirteen papers published in English that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected for the final review.The papers suggest that the risk of infection has increased over the years and this has been attributed to environmental,socio-economic and demographic factors.Furthermore,schistosomiasis is endemic in many parts of the country with infection due to Schistosoma haematobium being more prevalent than that due to S.mansoni.This review also found that S.haematobium was linked to genital lesions,thus increasing risks of contracting other diseases such as HIV and cervical cancer.Conclusions:For both S.haematobium and S.mansoni,environmental,socio-economic,and demographic factors were influential in the transmission and prevalence of the disease and highlight the need for detailed knowledge on ecological modelling and mapping the distribution of the disease and intermediate host snails for effective implementation of control strategies. | Chester Kalinda Moses J.Chimbari Samson Mukaratirwa | 2018 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018,7,1: | 3 |
