A natural variation in Ribonuclease H-like gene underlies Rht8 to confer“Green Revolution”trait in wheat显示文摘Dear Editor,Introduction of gibberellin(GA)-insensitive Reduced height(Rht)genes,Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b,has resulted in the“Green Revolution”in modern wheat cultivars(Triticum aestivum)that has skyrocketed wheat grain yields worldwide since the 1960s(Peng et al.,1999;Velde et al.,2021).However,Rht-B1b/D1b also reduce coleoptiles, which is undesired in dryland regions where deep planting is essential for seedling establishment(Rebetzke et al.,1999,Rebetzke et al.,2001;Ellis et al.,2004).Lingling Chai Mingming Xin Chaoqun Dong Zhaoyan Chen Huijie Zhai Junhong Zhuang Xuejiao Cheng Naijiao Wang Jia Geng Xiaobo Wang Ruolin Bian Yingyin Yao Weilong Guo Zhaorong Hu Huiru Peng Guihua Bai Qixin Sun Zhenqi Su Jie Liu Zhongfu Ni 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,3:8
Effectiveness of Inactivated COVID-19 Vaccines Against Symptomatic,Pneumonia, and Severe Disease Caused by the Delta Variant:Real World Study and Evidence—China,2021显示文摘Summary What is already known about this topic?Effectiveness of China’s 2 inactivated vaccines(BBIBPCorV and CoronaVac)against pre-Delta severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)variants ranged from 47%to over 90%,depending on the clinical endpoint, and with greater effectiveness against more severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).During an outbreak in Guangdong, inactivated vaccine effectiveness(VE)against the Delta variant was 70%for symptomatic infection and 100%for severe COVID-19.However,separate or combined VE estimates for the two inactivated vaccines against Delta are not available. What is added by this report? In an outbreak that started in a hospital,VEs of completed primary vaccination with inactivated COVID-19 vaccines against symptomatic COVID-19,COVID-19 pneumonia, and severe COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant were 51%,61%,and 82%.Completed primary vaccination reduced the risk of progressing from mild to moderate or severe COVID-19 by 74%.VE estimates for BBIBP-CorV and CoronaVac or combined vaccination were similar, and partial vaccination was ineffective. What are the implications for public health practice?Completed primary vaccination with either of the 2 inactivated COVID-19 vaccines reduces risk of symptomatic COVID-19,COVID-19 pneumonia, and severe COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant.Completion of the completed primary vaccination with two doses is necessary for protection from Delta.Dan Wu Yanyang Zhang Lin Tang Fuzhen Wang Ying Ye Chao Ma Hui Zheng Wenzhou Yu Lei Cao Yifan Song Abuduwaili Reyimu Xiaoxiao Zhang Haifeng Wang Yifei Nie Mingxia Lu Muge Qi Jun Li Ruolin Wang Kaichao Yang Changshuang Wang Lawrence Everett Rodewald Geroge Fu Gao Zhijie An Zundong Yin 2022China CDC weekly2022,4,4:7
Inhibition of in-stent restenosis after graphene oxide double-layer drug coating with good biocompatibility显示文摘In this study,we designed a double layer-coated vascular stent of 316L stainless steel using an ultrasonic spray system to achieve both antiproliferation and antithrombosis. The coating included an inner layer of graphene oxide(GO)loaded with docetaxel(DTX)and an outer layer of carboxymethyl chitosan(CMC)loaded with heparin(Hep). The coated surface was uniform without aggregation and shedding phenomena before and after stent expanded. The coating treatment was able to inhibit the adhesion and activation of platelets and the proliferation and migration of smooth muscle cells, indicating the excellent biocompatibility and antiproliferation ability. The toxicity tests showed that the GO/DTX and CMC/Hep coating did not cause deformity and organ abnormalities in zebrafish under stereomicroscope. The stents with GO double-layer coating were safe and could effectively prevent thrombosis and in-stent restenosis after the implantation into rabbit carotid arteries for 4–12 weeks.Shuang Ge Yadong Xi Ruolin Du Yuzhen Ren Zichen Xu Youhua Tan Yazhou Wang Tieying Yin Guixue Wang 2019Regenerative Biomaterials2019,6,5:4
Enhanced remediation of Cr(Ⅵ)-contaminated groundwater by coupling electrokinetics with ZVI/Fe_(3)O_(4)/AC-based permeable reactive barrier显示文摘Although widely used in permeation reaction barrier(PRB)for strengthening the removal of various heavy metals,zero-valent iron(ZVI)is limited by various inherent drawbacks, such as easy passivation and poor electron transfer. As a solution,a synergistic system with PRB and electrokinetics(PRB-EK)was established and applied for the efficient removal of Cr(Ⅵ)-contaminated groundwater. As the filling material of PRB,ZVI/Fe_(3)O_(4)/activated carbon(ZVI/Fe_(3)O_(4)/AC)composites were synthesized by ball milling and thermal treatment.A series of continuous flow column experiments and batch tests was conducted to evaluate the removal efficiency of Cr(Ⅵ).Results showed that the removal efficiency of Cr(Ⅵ)remained above 93%even when the bed volume(BV)reached 2000 under the operational parameters(iron/AC mass ratio,2:1;current,5 m A).The mechanism of Cr(Ⅵ)removal by the PRB-EK system was revealed through field emission scanning electron microscopy images,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,Fe^(2+) concentration, and redox potential(E h)values. The key in Cr(Ⅵ)reduction was the Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+) cycle driven by the surface microelectrolysis of the composites. The application of an externally supplied weak direct current maintained the redox process by enhancing the electron transfer capability of the system, thereby prolonging the column lifetime.Cr(Ⅵ)chemical speciation was determined through sequential extraction, verifying the stability and safety of the system. These findings provide a scientific basis for PRB design and the in-situ remediation of Cr(Ⅵ)-contaminated groundwater.Ruolin Cao Shiqing Liu Xinyu Yang Chunfeng Wang Yanbin Wang Wanfeng Wang Yunqing Pi 2022Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,2:4

Two-stage degradation and novel functional endothelium characteristics of a 3-D printed bioresorbable scaffold显示文摘Bioresorbable scaffolds have emerged as a new generation of vascular implants for the treatment of atherosclerosis, and designed to provide a temporary scaffold that is subsequently absorbed by blood vessels over time.Presently, there is insufficient data on the biological and mechanical responses of blood vessels accompanied by bioresorbable scaffolds(BRS)degradation. Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the inflexion point of degradation, the response of blood vessels, and the pathophysiological process of vascular,as results of such studies will be of great value for the design of next generation of BRS.In this study, abdominal aortas of SD rats were received 3-D printed poly-l-actide vascular scaffolds(PLS)for various durations up to 12 months. The response of PLS implanted aorta went through two distinct processes:(1)the neointima with desirable barrier function was obtained in 1 month, accompanied with slow degradation, inflammation, and intimal hyperplasia;(2)significant degradation occurred from 6 months, accompanied with decreasing inflammation and intimal hyperplasia, while the extracellular matrix recovered to normal vessels which indicate the positive remodeling. These in vivo results indicate that 6 months is a key turning point.This“two-stage degradation and vascular characteristics”is proposed to elucidate the long-term effects of PLS on vascular repair and demonstrated the potential of PLS in promoting endothelium function and positive remodeling, which highlights the benefits of PLS and shed some light in the future researches, such as drug combination coatings design.Tieying Yin Ruolin Du Yang Wang Junyang Huang Shuang Ge Yuhua Huang Youhua Tan Qing Liu Zhong Chen Hanqing Feng Jie Du Yazhou Wang Guixue Wang 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,4:2

Genome Size Evolution Mediated by Gypsy Retrotransposons in Brassicaceae显示文摘The dynamic activity of transposable elements(TEs)contributes to the vast diversity of genome size and architecture among plants. Here,we examined the genomic distribution and transposition activity of long terminal repeat retrotransposons(LTR-RTs)in Arabidopsis thaliana(Ath)and three of its relatives,Arabidopsis lyrata(Aly),Eutrema salsugineum(Esa),and Schrenkiella parvula(Spa),in Brassicaceae. Our analyses revealed the distinct evolutionary dynamics of Gypsy retrotransposons, which reflects the different patterns of genome size changes of the four species over the past million years. The rate of Gypsy transposition in Aly is approximately five times more rapid than that of Ath and Esa,suggesting an expanding Aly genome.Gypsy insertions in Esa are strictly confined to pericentromeric heterochromatin and associated with dramatic centromere expansion. In contrast,Gypsy insertions in Spa have been largely suppressed over the last million years, likely as a result of a combination of an inherent molecular mechanism of preferential DNA removal and purifying selection at Gypsy elements.Additionally,species-specific clades of Gypsy elements shaped the distinct genome architectures of Aly and Esa.Shi-Jian Zhang Lei Liu Ruolin Yang Xiangfeng Wang 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,3:1

The Janus-faced role of Piezo1 in cardiovascular health under mechanical stimulation显示文摘In recent years, cardiovascular health problems are becoming more and more serious. At the same time, mechanical stimulation closely relates to cardiovascular health. In this context,Piezo1,which is very sensitive to mechanical stimulation, has attracted our attention. Here,we review the critical significance of Piezo1 in mechanical stimulation of endothelial cells,NO production, lipid metabolism,DNA damage protection, the development of new blood vessels and maturation, narrowing of blood vessels, blood pressure regulation, vascular permeability, insulin sensitivity, and maintenance of red blood cell function.Besides,Piezo1 may participate in the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, and other cardiovascular diseases. It is worth noting that Piezo1 has dual effects on maintaining cardiovascular health. On the one hand, the function of Piezo1 is necessary to maintain cardiovascular health;on the other hand, under some extreme mechanical stimulation, the overexpression of Piezo1 may bring adverse factors such as inflammation. Therefore, this review discusses the Janus-faced role of Piezo1 in maintaining cardiovascular health and puts forward new ideas to provide references for gene therapy or nanoagents targeting Piezo1.Junyang Huang Kun Zhang Ruolin Du Wanling Liu Haijun Zhang Tian Tian Yazhou Wang Guixue Wang Tieying Yin 2023Genes & Diseases2023,10,5:1
From Earth to Space:A First Deployment of 5G Core Network on Satellite显示文摘Recent developments in the aerospace industry have led to a dramatic reduction in the manufacturing and launch costs of low Earth orbit satellites. The new trend enables the paradigm shift of satelliteterrestrial integrated networks with global coverage. In particular, the integration of 5G communication systems and satellites has the potential to restructure nextgeneration mobile networks.By leveraging the network function virtualization and network slicing, the satellite 5G core networks will facilitate the coordination and management of network functions in satellite-terrestrial integrated networks. We are the first to deploy a 5G core network on a real-world satellite to investigate its feasibility. We conducted experiments to validate the satellite 5G core network functions. The validated procedures include registration and session setup procedures. The results show that the satellite 5G core network can function normally and generate correct signaling.Ruolin Xing Xiao Ma Ao Zhou Schahram Dustdar Shangguang Wang 2023China Communications2023,20,4:1
The First Verification Test of Space-Ground Collaborative Intelligence via Cloud-Native Satellites显示文摘Recent advancements in satellite technologies and the declining cost of access to space have led to the emergence of large satellite constellations in Low Earth Orbit(LEO).However, these constellations often rely on bent-pipe architecture, resulting in high communication costs.Existing onboard inference architectures suffer from limitations in terms of low accuracy and inflexibility in the deployment and management of in-orbit applications. To address these challenges,we propose a cloud-native-based satellite design specifically tailored for Earth Observation tasks, enabling diverse computing paradigms. In this work,we present a case study of a satellite-ground collaborative inference system deployed in the Tiansuan constellation, demonstrating a remarkable 50%accuracy improvement and a substantial 90%data reduction. Our work sheds light on in-orbit energy, where in-orbit computing accounts for 17%of the total onboard energy consumption. Our approach represents a significant advancement of cloud-native satellite, aiming to enhance the accuracy of in-orbit computing while simultaneously reducing communication cost.Wang Shangguang Zhang Qiyang Xing Ruolin Qi Fei Xu Mengwei 2024China Communications2024,21,4:0

Genome-wide CRISPR screening reveals key genes and pathways associated with 20-hydroxyecdysone signal transduction in the silkworm(Bombyx mori)显示文摘Metamorphosis is a complex developmental process involving multiple pathways and a large number of genes that are regulated by juvenile hormone(JH)and 20-hydroxyecdysone(20E).Despite important progress in understanding various aspects of silkworm biology, the hormone signaling pathway in the silkworm remains poorly understood.Genome-wide screening using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9(Cas9)-based libraries has recently emerged as a novel method for analyzing genome function, enabling further research into essential genes, drug targets, and virus-host interaction.Previously,we constructed a genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9-based library of the silkworm(Bombyx mori)and successfully revealed the genes involved in biotic or abiotic stress factor responses. In this study,we used our silkworm CRISPR library and large-scale genome-wide screening to analyze the key genes in the silkworm 20E signaling pathway and their mechanisms of action.Functional annotation showed that 20E regulates key proteins in processes that mainly occur in the cytoplasm and nucleus.Pathway enrichment analysis showed that 20E can activate phosphorylation and may affect innate immunity, interfere with intracellular nutrition and energy metabolism, and eventually cause cell apoptosis. The screening results were experimentally validated by generating cells with knockout alleles of the relevant genes, which had increased tolerance to 20E.Our findings provide a panoramic overview of signaling in response to 20E in the silkworm, underscoring the utility of genome-wide CRISPR mutant libraries in deciphering hormone signaling pathways and the mechanisms that regulate metamorphosis in insects.Hao Sun Jingya Chen Ruolin Wang Dan Liu Na Zhang Tong Zhang Ling Jia Sanyuan Ma Qingyou Xia 2024Insect Science2024,31,1:0
Genetic architecture of quantitative trait loci(QTL)for FHB resistance and agronomic traits in a hard winter wheat population显示文摘Wheat resistance to Fusarium head blight(FHB)has often been associated with some undesirable agronomic traits. To study the relationship between wheat FHB resistance and agronomic traits,we constructed a linkage map of single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)using an F6:8 population from G97252WG97380A.The two hard winter wheat parents showed contrasts in FHB resistance, plant height(HT),heading date(HD),spike length(SL),spike compactness(SC),kernel number per spike(KNS),spikelet number per spike(SNS),thousand-grain weight(TGW)and grain size(length and width).Quantitative trait locus(QTL)mapping identified one major QTL(QFhb.hwwg-2DS)on chromosome arm 2DS for the percentage of symptomatic spikelets(PSS)in the spike, deoxynivalenol(DON)content and Fusarium damaged kernel(FDK).This QTL explained up to 71.8%of the phenotypic variation for the three FHB-related traits and overlapped with the major QTL for HT,HD,SL,KNS,SNS,TGW,and grain size.QTL on chromosome arms 2AL,2DS,3AL and 4BS were significant for the spike and grain traits measured.G97252W contributed FHB resistance and high SNS alleles at QFhb.hwwg-2DS,high KNS alleles at the QTL on 2AL and 2DS,and high TGW and grain size alleles at QTL on 3AL;whereas G97380A contributed high TGW and grain size alleles at the QTL on 2AL and 2DS,respectively,and the high KNS allele at the 4BS QTL.Combining QFhb.hwwg-2DS with positive alleles for spike and grain traits from other chromosomes may simultaneously improve FHB resistance and grain yield in new cultivars.Yuzhou Xu Yaoguang Li Ruolin Bian Guorong Zhang Allan K.Fritz Yanhong Dong Lanfei Zhao Yunfeng Xu Nida Ghori Amy Bernardo Paul StAmand Jessica L.Shoup Rupp Myron Bruce Wei Wang Eduard Akhunov Brett Carver Guihua Bai 2023The Crop Journal2023,11,6:0
Intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and liver metabolomic changes during brain death显示文摘Background Whether a causative link exists between brain death(BD)and intestinal microbiota dysbiosis is unclear, and the distortion in liver metabolism associated with BD requires further exploration. Methods A rat model of BD was constructed and sustained for 9 h(BD group,n=6).The sham group(n=6)underwent the same procedures, but the catheter was inserted into the epidural space without ballooning.Intestinal contents and portal vein plasma were collected for microbiota sequencing and microbial metabolite detection.Liver tissue was resected to investigate metabolic alterations, and the results were compared with those of a sham group.Resultsα-diversity indexes showed that BD did not alter bacterial diversity.Microbiota dysbiosis occurred after 9 h of BD.At the family level,Peptostreptococcaceae and Bacteroidaceae were both decreased in the BD group. At the genus level,Romboutsia,Bacteroides,Erysipelotrichaceae_UCG_004,Faecalibacterium,and Barnesiella were enriched in the sham group, whereas Ruminococcaceae_UCG_007,Lachnospiraceae_ND3007_group,and Papillibacter were enriched in the BD group.Short-chain fatty acids, bile acids, and 132 other microbial metabolites remained unchanged in both the intestinal contents and portal vein plasma of the BD group.BD caused alterations in 65 metabolites in the liver,of which, carbohydrates, amino acids, and organic acids accounted for 64.6%.Additionally,80.0%of the differential metabolites were decreased in the BD group livers.Galactose metabolism was the most significant metabolic pathway in the BD group. Conclusions BD resulted in microbiota dysbiosis in rats;however, this dysbiosis did not alter microbial metabolites.Deterioration in liver metabolic function during extended periods of BD may reflect a continuous worsening in energy deficiency.Ruolin Tao Wenzhi Guo Tao Li Yong Wang Panliang Wang 2023Journal of Intensive Medicine2023,3,4:0
The impact of water quality on the formation of halogenated benzoquinones and the adsorption efficiency by activated carbon显示文摘Halogenated benzoquinones(HBQs)could cause bladder cancer, but there were few related studies on the generation and control. In this study, the impact of different precursors,pH,bromide concentration, and algae-derived organic matters on the formation of HBQs and the removal efficiency by activated carbon were investigated. It was found that the chlorination of bisphenol A produced the most 2,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone(2,6-DCBQ),reaching 14.86μg/L at 1 hr,followed by tyrosine,2-chlorophenol,P-hydroxybenzoic acid, trichlorophenol, and N-methylaniline.The production of 2,6-DCBQ increased first and then decreased from 0 to 36 hr(chlorination doses 0-20 mg/L),indicating that HBQs were unstable in water.Trihalomethanes(THMs)were detected during chlorination, and the concentration increased with prolongation of reaction time.2,6-DCBQ production decreased and 2,6-dibromo-1,4-benzoquinone(2,6-DBBQ)production increased with increment bromide concentration and the bromide promoted the formation of tribromomethane. The production of 2,6-DCBQ decreased with increase of pH,and the maximum production was 141.38μg/L at pH of 5.Microcystis aeruginosa,Chlorella algae cells, and intracellular organic matters(IOM)could be chlorinated as potential precursors for HBQs.The most amount of 2,6-DCBQ was generated from algae cells of Microcystis aeruginosa, followed by Chlorella algae cells,Microcystis aeruginosa IOM,and Chlorella IOM.This study compared the removal efficiency of HBQs by granular activated carbon(GAC)and columnar activated carbon(CAC)under different carbon doses and initial concentrations of HBQs.It was found that the removal efficiency by GAC(80.1%)was higher than that by CAC(51.8%),indicating that GAC has better control for HBQs.Yongjing Wang Song Gao Xinyu Yan Songtao Wang Ruolin Zhang Yan Zhou Lianhai Ren Cheng Li 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,1:0
Low-Rank Combined Adaptive Sparsifying Transform for Blind Compressed Sensing Image Recovery显示文摘Compressed sensing(CS)exploits the sparsity of images or image patches in a transform domain or synthesis dictionary to reconstruct images from undegraded images.Because the synthesis dictionary learning methods involves NP-hard sparse coding and expensive learning steps, sparsifying transform based blind compressed sending(BCS)has been shown to be effective and efficient in applications, while also enjoying good convergence guarantees.By minimizing the rank of an overlapped patch group matrix to efficiently exploit the nonlocal self-similarity features of the image, while the sparsifying transform model imposes the local features of the image. We propose a combined low-rank and adaptive sparsifying transform(LRAST)BCS method to better represent natural images. We utilized the patch coordinate(PCD)descent algorithm to optimize the method, and this enforced the intrinsic local sparsity and nonlocal self-similarity of the images simultaneously in a unified framework. The experimental results indicated a promising performance, even in comparison to state-of-theart methods.HE Ning WANG Ruolin LYU Jiayi XUE Jian 2020Chinese Journal of Electronics2020,29,4:0
Risk factors associated with the progression from mild keloids to severe keloids显示文摘Background:Keloids are benign fibrous growths that are caused by excessive tissue build-up.Severe keloids exert more significant effects on patients’quality of life than do mild keloids. We aimed to identify factors associated with the progression from mild keloids to severe keloids,as distinct from those associated with the formation of keloids. Methods:In this retrospective case-control study,251 patients diagnosed with keloids at West China Hospital between November 2018 and April 2021 were grouped according to the severity of lesions(mild[n=162]or severe[n=89]).We collected their basic characteristics, living habits, incomes, comorbidities, and keloid characteristics from Electronic Medical Records in the hospital and the patients’interviews.Conditional multivariable regression was performed to identify the independent risk factors for the progression of keloids.Results:Eighty-nine patients(35.5%)were classified as having severe keloids. We found the distribution of severe keloids varied with sex, age, excessive scrubbing of keloids, family income, the comorbidity of rheumatism, disease duration, characteristics of the location, location in sites of high-stretch tension, the severity and frequency of pain, the severity of pruritus, and infection.Multivariable analysis revealed significant associations between severe keloids and infection(odds ratio[OR],3.55;P=0.005),excessive scrubbing of keloids(OR,8.65;P=0.001),low or middle family income(OR,13.44;P=0.021),comorbidity of rheumatism(OR,18.97;P=0.021),multiple keloids located at multiple sites(OR,3.18;P=0.033),and disease duration>15 years(OR,2.98;P=0.046).Conclusion:Doctors should implement more active and thorough measures to minimize the progression of mild keloids in patients who have any of the following risk factors:infection, excessive scrubbing of keloids, low or middle family income, comorbidity of rheumatism, multiple keloids located at multiple sites, and disease duration>15 years.Ruolin Liu Haitao Xiao Ru Wang Wei Li Ke Deng Ying Cen Xuewen Xu 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,7:0
