2Effect of supplementing layer hen diet with phytogenic feed additives on laying performance, egg quality, egg lipid peroxidation and blood biochemical constituents显示文摘This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementing laying hen diet with phytogenic additives on laying performance, egg quality, blood constituents and egg lipid peroxidation. Two hundred Lohmann Brown Lite laying hens were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments: control(without phytogenic additive), fennel seeds(5 g/kg), black cumin seeds(5 g/kg) and hot red pepper(5 g/kg).Each of the 4 diets was fed to 5 replicates of 10 hens for 8 weeks. No significant differences were observed in body weight or feed intake between the groups. Dietary inclusion of fennel followed by red pepper improved(P < 0.05) egg weight, egg production, egg mass and feed conversion ratio compared with control. Higher yolk shape index, shell and albumen weight percentages and Haugh unit(P < 0.05)were recorded in the fennel supplemented group compared with control. The egg yolk color score increased by the addition of fennel or hot red pepper in laying hen diets compared with control. The inclusion of black cumin or hot red pepper decreased serum and egg yolk cholesterol and malondialdehyde concentrations(P < 0.05) compared with control. Serum aspartate aminotransferase concentration was lower in black cumin group(P < 0.05) than in other treatments. In conclusion, the best laying performance and egg quality were obtained by dietary inclusion of fennel, followed by hot red pepper and black cumin. 3prevention of renal dysfunction by nutraceuticals prepared from oil rich plant foods显示文摘Objective:To investigate the protective effect of extracts prepared from avocado,walnut,flaxseed and Eruca sativa seeds in a rat model of kidney dysfunction induced by intraperitoneal cisplatin.Methods:Ethanol and petroleum ether extracts mixture was prepared from each plant.Six groups of rats were conducted:control healthy,cisplatin group and four test groups where rats were given daily oral dose of each extract mixture before cisplatin injection.Different biochemical and cytogenetic parameters and kidney histopathology were determined.Acute toxicity was tested for the nutraceuticals.Total phenolic contents,faity acids(FA) and unsaponifiable matter were assessed in the extracts.Results:Walnut ethanol extract showed the highest content of total phenolic.FA analysis revealed that all the studied plants were rich in unsaturated FA.Gas-liquid chromatographic investigation of the unsaponifiable matter showed the presence of campeslerol.stigmaslerol and β—sitosterol in all the studied plants.Cisplatin treatment induced significant increase in plasma urea,creatinine and malondialdehyde along with significant reduction of plasma albumin,total protein,calalase and total antioxidant as well as reduction in creatinine clearance.Histopathological examination proved the induction of kidney dysfunction.Some sorts of chromosomal aberration and spermshape abnormalities were noticed after cisplatin treatment.Administration of extracts mixtures produced improvements in biochemical,histopathological and cytogenetic parameters.Conclusions:Administration of the studied nutraceuticals proved to possess protective role against cisplatin—induced nephrotoxicity,chromosomal aberration and abnormal sperms.All studied uutraceuticals showed complete safety.Sahar Y.Al-Okbi Doha A.Mohamed Thanaa E.Hamed Reham SH.Esmail Souria M.Donya 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,8:5
4A randomized open-label trial of on-demand rabeprazole vs ranitidine for patients with non-erosive reflux disease显示文摘AIM:To compare the efficacy of the proton-pump inhibitor,rabeprazole,with that of the H 2-receptor antagonist,ranitidine,as on-demand therapy for relieving symptoms associated with non-erosive reflux disease(NERD).METHODS:This is a single center,prospective,randomized,open-label trial of on-demand therapy with rabeprazole(group A) vs ranitidine(group B) for 4 wk.Eighty-three patients who presented to the American University of Beirut Medical Center with persistent gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) symptoms and a normal upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were eligible for the study.Patients in group A(n = 44) were allowed a maximum rabeprazole dose of 20 mg twice daily,while those in group B(n = 39) were allowed a maximum ranitidine dose of 300 mg twice daily.Efficacy was assessed by patient evaluation of global symptom relief,scores of the SF-36 quality of life(QoL) questionnaires,total number of pills used,and number of medication-free days.RESULTS:Among the 83 patients who were enrolled in the study,76 patients(40 in the rabeprazole group and 36 in the ranitidine group) completed the 4-wk trial.Baseline characteristics were comparable between both groups.After 4 wk,there was no significant difference in the subjective global symptom relief between the rabeprazole and the ranitidine groups(71.4% vs 65.4%,respectively;P = 0.9).There were no statistically significant differences between mean cumulative scores of the SF-36 QoL questionnaire for the two study groups(rabeprazole 22.40 ± 27.53 vs ranitidine 17.28 ± 37.06;P = 0.582).There was no significant difference in the mean number of pills used(rabeprazole 35.70 ± 29.75 vs ranitidine 32.86 ± 26.98;P = 0.66).There was also no statistically significant difference in the mean number of medication-free days between both groups.CONCLUSION:Rabeprazole has a comparable efficacy compared to ranitidine when given on-demand for the treatment of NERD.Both medications were associated with improved quality of life.Abdallah A Kobeissy Jana G Hashash Faek R Jamali Assaad M Skoury Reham Haddad Sarah El-Samad Rami Ladki Rola Aswad Assaad M Soweid 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,19:4
5Tumor necrosis factor-α-G308A polymorphism is associated with liver pathological changes in hepatitis C virus patients显示文摘AIM To investigate the association of tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFα)-G308 A polymorphism with different liver pathological changes in treatment-na?ve Egyptian patients infected with hepatitis C virus(HCV) genotype 4.METHODS This study included 180 subjects,composed of 120 treatment-na?ve chronic HCV patients with different fibrosis grades(F0-F4) and 60 healthy controls. The TNFα-G308 A region was amplified by PCR and the different genotypes were detected by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. The TNFα protein was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The influence of different TNFα-G308 A genotypes on TNFα expression and liver disease progression were statistically analyzed. The OR and 95%CI were calculated to assess the relative risk confidence.RESULTS Current data showed that the TNFα-G308 A SNP frequency was significantly different between controls and HCV infected patients(P = 0.001). Both the AA genotype and A allele were significantly higher in late fibrosis patients(F2-F4,n = 60) than in early fibrosis patients(F0-F1,n = 60)(P = 0.05,0.04 respectively). Moreover,the GA or AA genotypes increased the TNFα serum level greater than the GG genotype(P = 0.002). The results showed a clear association between severe liver pathological conditions(inflammation,steatosis and fibrosis) and(GA + AA) genotypes(P = 0.035,0.03,0.04 respectively). The stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that the TNFα genotypes(GA + AA) were significantly associated with liver inflammation(OR = 3.776,95%CI: 1.399-10.194,P = 0.009),severe steatosis(OR = 4.49,95%CI: 1.441-14.0,P = 0.010) and fibrosis progression(OR = 2.84,95%CI: 1.080-7.472,P = 0.034). Also,the A allele was an independent risk factor for liver inflammation(P = 0.003),steatosis(P = 0.003) and fibrosis(P = 0.014). 6Correlation between corneal demarcation line depth in epithelium-off and trans-epithelium accelerated corneal cross linking and keratoconus progression显示文摘AIM:To compare corneal demarcation line(DL)depth in both accelerated epithelium-off and trans-epithelium cross linking(CXL)using anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)and its relation to maximum keratometry(Kmax)progression in both techniques.METHODS:A prospective comparative interventional study where patients with mild to moderate keratoconus(KC)were classified into two groups:accelerated epitheliumoff and trans-epithelium CXL based on corneal pachymetry.Assessment of corneal DL depth was carried out after 3mo by AS-OCT.Kmax readings were evaluated after one year follow up using the Scheimpflug imaging system.RESULTS:Study included 74 eyes of 44 patients.Group A underwent epithelium-off CXL(41 eyes),while Group B underwent trans-epithelium CXL(33 eyes).At 3mo follow up,mean corneal DL depth in Group A was 219.9±58.4μm while in Group B was 127.2±7.8μm(P<0.05).The mean Kmaxchangedfrom51.9±3.9to51.3±4.2dioptersin Group A and from 53.1±4.1 to 53.6±5 diopters in Group B with insignificant difference in Kmax changes in either group(P>0.05).In addition,no significant change in corneal pachymetry was found in both groups(meanchange at 1y:6.4±4.7 and-10.1±2.3μm in Groups A and B respectively).CONCLUSION:Despite a significantly deeper corneal DL depth created by accelerated epithelium-off CXL technique compared to accelerated trans-epithelium CXL,there is no significant impact on keratoconus progression.Mahmoud Abdel-Radi Zeiad Eldaly Hazem Abdelmotaal Reham Abdelrahman Mohamed Sayed Kamel Soliman 2020International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,6:2
7Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma co-occurring with hepatitis C virus infection: A mathematical model显示文摘AIM: To develop a mathematical model for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) with a panel of serum proteins in combination with α-fetoprotein(AFP).METHODS: Serum levels of interleukin(IL)-8, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1(s ICAM-1), soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor Ⅱ(s TNF-RⅡ), proteasome, and β-catenin were measured in 479 subjects categorized into four groups:(1) HCC concurrent with hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection(n = 192);(2) HCV related liver cirrhosis(LC)(n = 96);(3) Chronic hepatitis C(CHC)(n = 96); and(4) Healthy controls(n = 95). The R package and different modules for binary and multi-class classifiers based on generalized linear models were used to model the data. Predictive power was used to evaluate the performance of the model. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis over pairs of groups was used to identify the best cutoffs differentiating the different groups. RESULTS: We revealed mathematical models, based on a binary classifier, made up of a unique panel of serum proteins that improved the individual performance of AFP in discriminating HCC patients from patients with chronic liver disease either with or without cirrhosis. We discriminated the HCC group from the cirrhotic liver group using a mathematical model(-11.3 + 7.38 × Prot + 0.00108 × s ICAM + 0.2574 ×β-catenin + 0.01597 × AFP) with a cutoff of 0.6552, which achieved 98.8% specificity and 89.1% sensitivity. For the discrimination of the HCC group from the CHC group, we used a mathematical model [-10.40 + 1.416 × proteasome + 0.002024 × IL + 0.004096 × s ICAM-1 +(4.251 × 10-4) × s TNF + 0.02567 ×β-catenin + 0.02442 × AFP] with a cutoff 0.744 and achieved 96.8% specificity and 89.7% sensitivity. Additionally, we derived an algorithm, based on a binary classifier, for resolving the multi-class classification problem by using three successive mathematical model predictions of liver disease status. 9Cyanidin 3-glucoside modulated cell cycle progression in liver precancerous lesion,in vivo study显示文摘BACKGROUND Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside(cyan)exhibits antioxidant and anticancer properties.The cell cycle proteins and antimitotic drugs might be promising therapeutic targets in hepatocellular carcinoma.AIM To investigate the effect of cyan administration on cell cycle in hepatic precancerous lesion(PCL)induced by diethylnitrosamine/2-acetylaminofluorene(DEN/2-AAF)in Wistar rats.METHODS In vivo,DEN/2-AAF-induced hepatic PCL,rats were treated with three doses of cyan(10,15,and 20 mg/kg/d,for four consecutive days per week for 16 wk).Blood and liver tissue samples were collected for measurement of the followings;alpha fetoprotein(AFP)liver function and RNA panel differential expression was evaluated via real time polymerase chain reaction.Histopathological examination of liver sections stained with H&E and immunohistochemical study using glutathione S-transferase placental(GSTP)and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)antibodies were assessed.RESULTS Cyan administration mitigated the effect of DEN/2-AFF induced PCL,decreased AFP levels,and improved liver function.Remarkably,treatment with cyan dose dependently decreased the long non-coding RNA MALAT1 and tubulin gamma 1 mRNA expressions and increased the levels of miR-125b,all of which are involved in cell cycle and mitotic spindle assembly.Of note,cyan decreased GSTP foci percent area and PCNA positively stained nuclei.CONCLUSION Our results indicated that cyan could be used as a potential therapeutic agent to inhibit liver carcinogenesis in rat model via modulation of cell cycle.Marwa Matboli Amany H Hasanin Reham Hussein Sarah El-Nakeep Eman K Habib Rawan Ellackany Lobna A Saleh 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,14:1

14Targeting histone deacetylases for cancer therapy: Trends and challenges显示文摘Dysregulation of histone deacetylases(HDACs) is closely related to tumor development and progression. As promising anticancer targets, HDACs have gained a great deal of research interests and two decades of effort has led to the approval of five HDAC inhibitors(HDACis). However, currently traditional HDACis, although effective in approved indications, exhibit severe off-target toxicities and low sensitivities against solid tumors, which have urged the development of next-generation of HDACi. This review investigates the biological functions of HDACs, the roles of HDACs in oncogenesis, the structural features of different HDAC isoforms, isoform-selective inhibitors, combination therapies, multitarget agents and HDAC PROTACs. 16New sub-equation method to construct solitons and other solutions for perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation with Kerr law nonlinearity in optical fiber materials显示文摘In a previous work,Zayed and Al-Nowehy have applied the Riccati equation mapping method combined with the generalized extended(G/G)-expansion method and found new exact solutions of the nonlinear KPP equation.In the present article,we propose a different method,namely,a new sub-equation method consists of the Riccati equation mapping method and the(G/G,1/G)-expansion method to find new exact solutions of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation with Kerr law nonlinearity in optical fiber materials.This proposed method is not found elsewhere.Hyperbolic,trigonometric and rational function solutions are given.New solutions of the generalized Riccati equation are presented for the first time which are not reported previously.The solutions of the given nonlinear equation can be applied in ocean engineering for calculating the height of tides in the ocean.Elsayed M.E.Zayed Abdul-Ghani Al-Nowehy Reham M.A.Shohib 2019Journal of Ocean Engineering and Science2019,4,1:1

18Optimization of double chamber microbial fuel cell for domestic wastewater treatment and electricity production显示文摘Microbial fuel cells(M FCs)represent a new approach for treating w aste w ater along w ith electricity production.The present study addressed electricity production from domestic w astew ater using a mediator-less double chamber M FC.The electricity production w as monitored under different operational conditions for both summer and w inter samples.Optimization of the anodic and cathodic chambers resulted in a maximal current of 0.784 and 0.645 m A w ith the maximal pow er intensity of 209 and 117 m W/m2in pow er duration of 24 h for the summer and w inter samples,respectively.Scanning electron microscopy show ed that the bacterial biofilm formation on the anode w as denser for the summer sample than that w hen the w inter sample w as used,so w as the total bacterial count.Therefore,samples taken during summer w ere considered better in electricity production and w aste w ater treatment than those taken during w inter basically because of the high microbial load during the hot season.In parallel,there w as a decrease in both biological oxygen demand(BOD5)and chemical oxygen demand(COD)values which reached 71.8%and 72.85%,respectively at the end of the operation process for the summer sample,w hile there w as no evident decrease for the w inter sample.Optimizing the operating conditions not only increased the potential of using domestic w aste w ater in microbial fuel cells to produce electricity,but also improved the quality of the domestic w aste w ater.Amr El-Hag Ali Ola M.Gomaa Reham Fathey Hussein Abd El Kareem Mohamed Abou Zaid 2015燃料化学学报2015,43,9:1
