A comprehensive review on proppant technologies显示文摘The main function of traditional proppants is to provide and maintain conductive fractures during well production where proppants should meet closure stress requirement and show resistance to diagenesis under downhole conditions. Many different proppants have been developed in the oil&gas industry, with various types, sizes, shapes, and applications. While most proppants are simply made of silica or ceramics, advanced proppants like ultra-lightweight proppant is also desirable since it reduces proppant settling and requires low viscosity fluids to transport.Additionally, multifunctional proppants may be used as a crude way to detect hydraulic fracture geometry or as matrices to slowly release downhole chemical additives, besides their basic function of maintaining conductive hydraulic fractures.Different from the conventional approach where proppant is pumped downhole in frac fluids,a revolutionary way to generate in-situ spherical proppants has been reported recently. This paper presents a comprehensive review of over 100 papers published in the past several decades on the subject. The objectives of this review study are to provide an overview of current proppant technologies, including different types, compositions, and shapes of proppants, new technologies to pump and organize proppants downhole such as channel fracturing, and also in-situ proppant generation. Finally, the paper sheds light on the current challenges and emphasizes needs for new proppant development for unconventional resources. | Feng Liang Mohammed Sayed Ghaithan A.Al-Muntasheri Frank F.Chang Leiming Li | 2016 | Petroleum2016,2,1: | 15
Reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy following liver transplantation in Egyptian cirrhotic patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE) following liver transplantation(LT) in Egyptian cirrhotic patients. METHODS This prospective study included twenty patients with biopsy-proven liver cirrhosis listed for LT and twenty ageand sex-matched healthy control subjects. All underwent neuro-psychiatric examination, laboratory investigations, radiological studies and psychometric tests including trail making test A(TMT A), TMT B, digit symbol test and serial dotting test. The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score(PHES) was calculated for patients to diagnose MHE. Psychometric tests were repeated six months following LT in the cirrhotic patient group. RESULTS Before LT, psychometric tests showed highly significant deficits in cirrhotic patients in comparison to controls(P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant improvement in test values in the patient group after LT; however, their values were still significantly worse than those of the controls(P < 0.001). The PHES detected MHE in 16 patients(80%) before LT with a median value of -7 ± 3.5. The median PHES value was significantly improved following LT, reaching-4.5 ± 5(P < 0.001), and the number of patients with MHE decreased to 11(55%). The pre-transplant model for end-stage liver disease(MELD) score ≥ 15 was significantly related to the presence of post-transplant MHE(P = 0.005). More patients in whom reversal of MHE was observed had a pre-transplant MELD score < 15.CONCLUSION Reversal of MHE in cirrhotic patients could be achieved by LT, especially in those with a MELD score < 15. | Mahmoud A Osman Moataz M Sayed Khaled A Mansour Shereen A Saleh Wesam A Ibrahim Sara M Abdelhakam Mohamed Bahaa Wael A Yousry Hosam S Elbaz Reginia N Mikhail Azza M Hassan Ehab H Elsayed Dalia A Mahmoud | 2016 | World Journal of Hepatology2016,8,30: | 11
Influence of bioactive sulphated polysaccharide-protein complexes on hepatocarcinogenesis, angiogenesis and immunomodulatory activities显示文摘Objective:To explore the in vivo anticancer,anti-angiogenesis and immunomodulatory efficacies of the bioactive polysaccharide isolated from cold aqueous extract of Jania rubens(JCEM) and Pterocladia capillacea(PCEM) as well as hot aqueous extract of Enteromorpha intestinalis(EHEM) against hepatocellular carcinoma rat model(HCC) and to study their chemical composition. Methods:The sugars and amino acids composition of the bioactive polysaccharides of JCEM,PCEM and EHEM were determined using gas liquid chromatography and amino acid analyzer, respectively. These polysaccharide extracts(20 mg/kg b.wt.for 5 weeks) were assessed on hepatocarcinogenesis in rats and α-fetoprotein(AFP),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),glypican-3(GPC-3),hepatocyte growth factor(HGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and Ig G levels were evaluated. Results:The GLC analysis of JCEM,PCEM and EHEM polysaccharide revealed the presence of 10,9 and10 sugars,in addition the amino acid analyser enable identification of 16,15 and 15 amino acids, respectively. These polysaccharide extracts of JCEM,PCEM and EHEM produced significant decrease in serum AFP,CEA,GPC-3,HGF and VEGF compared with untreated HCC group.JCEM,PCEM and EHEM had an immunostimulatory responses by increasing the IgG levels as compared by naive value(1.23,1.53 and 1.17 folds),respectively. The bioactive polysaccharides in HCC induced rats improved the humoral immune response. The photomicrographs of liver tissue sections of the groups of HCC treated with polysaccharide extracts of Jania rubens and Enteromorpha intestinalis showed intact histological structure. Moreover, fractions HE1,HE4,HE7 obtained from polysaccharide of EHEM showed moderate cytotoxic activity against Hep G2 in vitro with IC_(50) 73.1,42.6,76.2 μg/mL.However,fractions of PCEM and JCEM show no or weak cytotoxicity against Hep G2 in vitro where the cytotoxic activity of their crude polysaccharide extract proved synergetic effect. Conclusions:The pronounced antitumor activity of sulphated polysaccharide-protein complexes of JCEM and EHEM is due to direct cytotoxic activity,anti-hepatocarcinogensis,and anti-angiogenesis.In addition,JCEM,PCEM and EHEM had an immunostimulatory response and improved the humoral immune response in HCC induced rats. | Azza A.Matloub Hadeer A.Aglan Sahar Salah Mohamed El Souda Mona Elsayed Aboutabl Amany Sayed Maghraby Hanaa H.Ahmed | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,12: | 7
Molecular detection of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 polymorphism in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis patients显示文摘AIM: To investigate the association of the functional monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1) promoter polymorphism(A-2518G) with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP).METHODS: Fifty patients with post-hepatitis C liver cirrhosis and ascites were categorized into two groups; group Ⅰ included 25 patients with SBP and group Ⅱ included 25 patients free from SBP. In addition, a group of 20 healthy volunteers were included. We assessed the MCP-1 gene polymorphism and gene expression as well as interleukin(IL)-10 levels in both blood and ascitic fluid. RESULTS: A significant MCP-1 gene polymorphism was detected in groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ(P = 0.001 and 0.02 respectively). Group Ⅰ was associated with a significantly higher frequency of AG genotype [control 8(40%) vs SBP 19(76.0%), P < 0.001], and group Ⅱ was associated with a significantly higher frequency of GG genotype when compared to healthy volunteers [control 1(5%) vs cirrhotic 16(64%), P < 0.001]. Accordingly, the frequency of G allele was significantly higher in both groups(Ⅰ and Ⅱ) [control 10(25%) vs SBP 27(54%), P < 0.001 and vs cirrhotic 37(74.0%), P < 0.001, respectively]. The total blood and ascetic fluid levels of IL-10 and MCP-1 gene expression were significantly higher in group Ⅰ than in group Ⅱ. Group Ⅰ showed significant reductions in the levels of MCP-1 gene expression and IL-10 in the whole blood and ascetic fluid after therapy. CONCLUSION: MCP-1 GG genotype and G allele may predispose HCV infected patients to a more progressive disease course, while AG genotype may increase the susceptibility to SBP. Patients carrying these genotypes should be under supervision to prevent or restrict further complications. | Maysa Kamal Salama Dina Sabry Mohamed AS Al-Ghussein Rasha Ahmed Sayed AbdAllah Fatma Mohamed Taha Wael Fathy Miriam Safwat Wadie Mona Nabih Amr Abul-Fotouh Tarneem Darwish | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,33: | 7
A simulation study of using active traffic management strategies on congested freeways显示文摘The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using active traffic management (ATM) strategies on freeways in terms of the driver's behavior and operational impacts. A few test beds were selected to evaluate the impacts of ATM such as speed harmonization, shoulder utilization, and ramp metering. Test beds used in this study were at places where an ATM is either proposed or previously implemented, i.e., where data exists for conditions prior to and after the implementation of ATM. Data collected from the test beds were used in a simulation model to evaluate the impacts of each ATM strategy on speed, travel time, and crash rates. Simulation results indicated that the implementation of speed harmonization on US 90 showed a 14% reduction in crashes and a 2%-3% increase in freeway speed; the implementation of hard shoulders on US 90 showed a 39% increase in travel time, 22% increase in freeway capacity and 60% decrease in delays; and the implementation of ramp metering on US 59 between Bissonnet St. and Fondern road showed a decrease of 23 % in freeway travel time, a 14% increase in freeway speed and 11% decrease in accident rates. | Ramakrishna VADDE Joseph O. | 6 | Interaction of insulin with prokinetic drugs in STZ-induced diabetic mice显示文摘AIM:To study the possible interactions of metoclopramide, domperidone and erythromycin in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice treated with insulin by various parameters.METHODS:Effects of the individual as well as combined drugs were studied in diabetic mice via estimation of the blood glucose and serum insulin levels, small intestinal transit(SIT),gastric emptying(GE),xylose absorption and glucose tolerance tests.Groups were given insulin 2 IU/kg s.c.,metoclopramide 20 mg/kg p.o.,domperidone 20 mg/kg p.o.and erythromycin 6 mg/kg p.o.individually and in combination. There were also normal and diabetic control groups. The first set of experiments was carried out to investigate the subchronic effect on blood glucose and serum insulin levels in diabetic mice of one week of daily dose administration of the tested drugs individually as well as the combination of insulin with each prokinetic drug. The other five sets of experiments were carried out to investigate the acute effect of a single dose of each drug individually and in combination on blood glucose and serum insulin levels,SIT,GE,oral xylose absorption and glucose tolerance tests.RESULTS:The study included the prokinetic drugs metoclopramide(20 mg/kg),domperidone(20 mg/kg) and erythromycin(6 mg/kg),as well as insulin(2 IU/kg),which was individually effective in decreasing SIT,enhancing GE and increasing xylose absorption significantly in diabetic mice.Erythromycin tended to decrease blood glucose level and increase serum insulin level after 1 wk of daily administration in diabetic mice.Erythromycin potentiated the effect of insulin on blood glucose level and serum insulin level whereas other prokinetic agents failed to do so after repeated dose administration in diabetic mice.Metoclopramide or erythromycin in combination with insulin significantly decreased SIT,in diabetic mice,to lower levels than with insulin alone.Administration of prokinetic drugs along with insulin antagonized the action of insulin on xylose absorption. These combinations also increased the rate of glucose absorption from the gut.CONCLUSION:The present study suggests that prokinetic drugs could potentially improve glycemic control in diabetic gastroparesis by allowing a more predictable absorption of nutrients, matched to the action of exogenous insulin. The use of prokinetics, such as erythromycin, may be interesting in the clinic in decreasing the need for insulin in diabetic patients. The dose of insulin may be safely decreased with erythromycin in chronic treatments. | Mohamed A Fouad Shalaby Hekma A Abd El Latif Mostafa E El Sayed | 2013 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics2013,4,2: | 3
Functional evaluation of the filtering bleb by ultrasound biomicroscopy after trabeculectomy with mitomycin C显示文摘AIM: To study the role of ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) in the assessment of the bleb function after trabeculectomy with mitomycin C(MMC). METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study including all cases had undergone trabeculectomy with MMC 0.2 mg/mL for 3 min. Participants were recruited from the follow-up cases at Department of Ophthalmology, Tanta University in the period from August 2015 to August 2016. Full history taking and ophthalmological examination were performed. Intraocular pressure(IOP) was measured using Goldmann applanation tonometry and the history of prescribed postoperative antiglaucoma medications was recorded. Accordingly, the trabeculectomy blebs were divided clinically into successful blebs when the IOP post-operative was ≤18 mmHg without medications. Scanning examination of the filtering bleb using UBM examination was performed at the period from 2 to 36 mo after trabeculectomy(13.6±9.7 m o). RESULTS: This study included 33 trabeculectomy filtering blebs of 25 patients(9 males and 16 females). The mean age of patients was 53.2±14.2 y(range 25-71y). We had 20 eyes with complete success, 9 eyes with qualified success, and 4 eyes with failure after trabeculectomy with MMC. The blebs were classified into successful blebs(IOP ≤18 mmHg without antiglaucoma medications), others were classified into qualified successful and failed blebs. There was a significant correlation between certain UBM findings(intra-bleb reflectivity, draining sub-scleral tract, bleb height, and intrableb fluid cysts) and cases with different grades of clinical functional success(P<0.01).CONCLUSION: UBM is an objective tool in the functional assessment of the post-trabeculectomy filtering bleb through a significant correlation between certain UBM parameters and the different grades of clinical functional success. | Ali Abbas El Salhy Rabab Mohamed Elseht Ahmed Fekry AI Maria Saied Mohamed Abd El-wahab Shalaby Tarek Ragaee Hossein | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,2: | 3
Is biliary bile acid a good predictor for acute cellular rejection in living donor liver transplantation?显示文摘BACKGROUND:In liver transplantation, acute cellular rejection(ACR)is still a major complication that can lead to mortality.Bile secretion has been considered as a marker of early graft function. METHODS:The study included 41 adults who received living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)at Kyoto University Hospital between April 2007 and February 2008. The patients were stratified according to the presence or absence of ACR.Bile samples were collected from donors once and from recipients every other day for the first 2 weeks after transplantation.Total bile acid(BA)and taurine-conjugated bile acid(TCBA)in bile were measured by magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The recipient/donor (R/D)BA ratio and R/D TCBA ratio were calculated. RESULTS:The ACR group(n=12)showed a greater decrease in BA post-transplantation than the non-ACR group, but this difference was not statistically significant. On both day 7 and day 9 post-transplantation the R/D TCBA was significantly different between the two groups (P=0.038 on day 7 and P=0.036 on day 9).The R/D TCBA ratio≥0.5 on days 7 and 9,and≥0.38 on day 11 post- transplantation were associated with better ACR-free survival. CONCLUSION:The recipient/donor TCBA ratio can be a predictor for ACR after LDLT as early as post- transplantation day 7. | Mohammed Saied Hedaya Walid M.El Moghazy Yamamoto Yasutomo Tomioka Kiyoshi oshimi Kaido Hiroto Egawa Shinji Uemoto Yasutsugu Takada | 2009 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2009,8,5: | 3
Validated stability indicating methods for determination of nitazoxanide in presence of its degradation products显示文摘Three sensitive, selective and reproducible stability-indicating methods are presented for determination of nitazoxanide (NTZ),a new anti-protozoal drug,in presence of its degradation products.Method A utilizes the first derivative of ratio spectra spectrophotometry by measurement of the amplitude at 364.4 nm using one of the degradation products as a divisor.Method B is a chemometric-assisted spectrophotometry, where principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) were applied. These two approaches were successfully applied to quantify NTZ in presence of degradation products using the information included in the absorption spectra in the range 260-360 nm.Method C is based on the separation of NTZ from its degradation products followed by densitometric measurement of the bands at 254 nm.The separation was carried out on silica gel 60F 254,using chloroform-methanol-ammonia solution-glacial acetic acid (95:5:1:1 by volume,pH=5.80) as a developing system. These methods are suitable as stability-indicating methods for the determination of NTZ in presence of its degradation products either in bulk powder or in pharmaceutical formulations.Statistical analysis of the results has been carried out revealing high accuracy and good precision. | Nouruddin W.Ali Samah Sayed Abbas Hala El-Sayed Zaazaa Maha Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed Abdelkawy | 2012 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2012,2,2: | 3
A secure image steganography algorithm based on least significant bit and integer wavelet transform显示文摘The rapid development of data communication in modern era demands secure exchange of information. Steganography is an established method for hiding secret data from an unauthorized access into a cover object in such a way that it is invisible to human eyes. The cover object can be image, text, audio,or video. This paper proposes a secure steganography algorithm that hides a bitstream of the secret text into the least significant bits(LSBs) of the approximation coefficients of the integer wavelet transform(IWT) of grayscale images as well as each component of color images to form stego-images. The embedding and extracting phases of the proposed steganography algorithms are performed using the MATLAB software. Invisibility, payload capacity, and security in terms of peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR) and robustness are the key challenges to steganography. The statistical distortion between the cover images and the stego-images is measured by using the mean square error(MSE) and the PSNR, while the degree of closeness between them is evaluated using the normalized cross correlation(NCC). The experimental results show that, the proposed algorithms can hide the secret text with a large payload capacity with a high level of security and a higher invisibility. Furthermore, the proposed technique is computationally efficient and better results for both PSNR and NCC are achieved compared with the previous algorithms. | ELSHAZLY Emad ABDELWAHAB Safey ABOUZAID Refaat ZAHRAN Osama ELARABY Sayed ELKORDY Mohamed | 2018 | Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2018,29,3: | 2
Neuroinflammation and subarachnoid hemorrhage: a revised look at the literature显示文摘A key topic for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is neuroinflammation.Neuroinflammation can predispose to aneurysm formation and rupture.Neuroinflammation can also result from the blood breakdown products after aneurysm rupture.Recent evidence has shown that perpetual neuroinflammation can contribute to vasospasm and hydrocephalus.Targeting neuroinflammation is a novel mechanism for preventing subsequent neurologic sequalae. In this review,we highlight the pathophysiology of aneurysm formation, the neuroinflammatory surge after rupture including the involved cytokines, and ultimately tie in the contributory clinical relevance. In the last sections,we look at the pre-clinical data and novel avenues for further discovery. This paper will be a useful resource to both the clinician and scientific investigator. | Sai Sriram Christopher Cutler Mohammed Azab Ramya Reddy Rodeania Peart Brandon Lucke-Wold | 2022 | Clinical Research Communications2022,5,3: | 2

Status and ethno-medicinal usage of invasive plants in traditional health care practices: a case study from northeastern Bangladesh显示文摘Species diversity and ethno-medicinal usage of 39 species of invasive plants were explored in and around two protected areas, Khadimnagar National Park (KNP) and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctu- ary (RKWS), of northeastern Bangladesh,. Status of invasive plants were investigated in 60 sample plots with 5 different habitat types, including forest, roadside, homestead, fallow land and others (ponds, canals, water logged areas, agricultural land, etc.). Data about the usage of invasive plants in traditional health care were collected through interviewing 110 households. Among the five habitat types, fallow land (28 species) pos- sessed the highest number of species, followed by roadside (25 species), forest (23 species), homestead (22 species) and others (13 species). Based on the survey, invasive plants of study areas were also categorized into five degrees of invasiveness e.g., naturalized, introduced, possibly invasive, moderately invasive and highly invasive. Additionally, there is the linear trend between degrees of invasiveness and use percentage of invasive plants. Total 39 species of invasive plants belonging to 29 fami- lies were recorded, which are generally used to treat 37 diseases, ranging from simple headache to highly complicated eye and heart diseases. The majority of the species used by the local inhabitants were herbs (16 spe- cies), followed by some shrubs (11 species), climbers (5 species), trees (5 species) and grasses (2 species). The use percentage of aboveground plant parts were higher (70.58%) than that of underground plant parts (16.18%). | Mohammed Abu Sayed Arfin Khan Fahmida Sultana Md. | 14 | Synthesis, spectral, optical and anti-inflammatory activity of complexes derived from 2-aminobenzohydrazide with some rare earths显示文摘Three new metal complexes derived from Er(III), Dy(III) and Zr(IV) with 2-aminobenzohydrazide(ABH) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H-NMR, ES-MS and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The morphology and the particle size were determined by TEM. The results showed that the ligand acted as neutral bi-dentate coordinating to the metal ions through the carbonyl oxygen and amidic amino nitrogen. The aromatic amine group remained inert towards coordination. The optical band gap was measured and found to be 3.3, 3.5 and 4.3 e V for Er(III), Dy(III) and Zr(IV), respectively. The optical band gap values indicated a semi-conducting nature of the investigated complexes. | 16 | Living-related liver transplantation in patients with variceal bleeding:outcome and prognostic factors显示文摘BACKGROUND:Liver transplantation currently represents the ultimate therapy for bleeding esophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis. It is the only therapy that cures both portal hypertension and the underlying liver disease. The outcome of liver transplantation is thought to be correlated with several factors. In this study, the clinical outcome of living-related liver transplantation(LRLT) was evaluated in patients with variceal bleeding, and the prognostic indicators of short-term survival in these patients were identified. METHODS:We reviewed retrospectively 121 patients with a history of variceal bleeding who had received LRLT from 1998 to 2006.The clinical outcomes were analyzed, and the risk factors for short-term survival were defined. RESULTS:The 3-month survival rate of patients with variceal bleeding was 83.4%,while that of non-bleeders was 87%.Sepsis was the commonest cause of death in both groups.Portal vein diameter and blood transfusion were the only independent prognostic factors for short-term survival among variceal bleeders. CONCLUSION:The outcome of LRLT in recipients with variceal bleeding is based on the improvement of portal hemodynamics,by minimizing intraoperative blood loss and subsequent blood transfusion. | Mohammed Saied Hedaya Walid Mohamed El Moghazy Shinji Uemoto | 2009 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2009,8,4: | 2
Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma co-occurring with hepatitis C virus infection: A mathematical model显示文摘AIM: To develop a mathematical model for the early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) with a panel of serum proteins in combination with α-fetoprotein(AFP).METHODS: Serum levels of interleukin(IL)-8, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1(s ICAM-1), soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor Ⅱ(s TNF-RⅡ), proteasome, and β-catenin were measured in 479 subjects categorized into four groups:(1) HCC concurrent with hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection(n = 192);(2) HCV related liver cirrhosis(LC)(n = 96);(3) Chronic hepatitis C(CHC)(n = 96); and(4) Healthy controls(n = 95). The R package and different modules for binary and multi-class classifiers based on generalized linear models were used to model the data. Predictive power was used to evaluate the performance of the model. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis over pairs of groups was used to identify the best cutoffs differentiating the different groups. RESULTS: We revealed mathematical models, based on a binary classifier, made up of a unique panel of serum proteins that improved the individual performance of AFP in discriminating HCC patients from patients with chronic liver disease either with or without cirrhosis. We discriminated the HCC group from the cirrhotic liver group using a mathematical model(-11.3 + 7.38 × Prot + 0.00108 × s ICAM + 0.2574 ×β-catenin + 0.01597 × AFP) with a cutoff of 0.6552, which achieved 98.8% specificity and 89.1% sensitivity. For the discrimination of the HCC group from the CHC group, we used a mathematical model [-10.40 + 1.416 × proteasome + 0.002024 × IL + 0.004096 × s ICAM-1 +(4.251 × 10-4) × s TNF + 0.02567 ×β-catenin + 0.02442 × AFP] with a cutoff 0.744 and achieved 96.8% specificity and 89.7% sensitivity. Additionally, we derived an algorithm, based on a binary classifier, for resolving the multi-class classification problem by using three successive mathematical model predictions of liver disease status. CONCLUSION: Our proposed mathematical model may be a useful method for the early detection of different statuses of liver disease co-occurring with HCV infection. | Abdel-Rahman Nabawy Zekri Amira Salah El-Din Youssef Yasser Mabrouk Bakr Reham Mohamed Gabr Ola Sayed Ahmed Mostafa Hamed Elberry Ahmed Mahmoud Mayla Mohamed Abouelhoda Abeer A Bahnassy | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,16: | 2
