1The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector,automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. 2应用生物信息学的系统化综合性教学改革实践显示文摘信息时代由于信息量巨大,传统的生物学讲学模式易导致知识片段化和浅表化等问题,从而显得乏味。应用生物信息学由于具有在实践中串并联相关知识点的特征,可成为转变这些问题的重要利器。为利用好这把利器,本文探讨了应用生物信息学课程的系统化综合性教学改革。论文从教学内容系统性布局(课程定位、内容结构和教学手段)和综合解析优秀科普视频中趣味性生物学问题两方面,图文并茂地展示了改革实践。实践中学生们受益匪浅。学生综合素质的提升体现在很多方面,比如认知的系统性与深度提高、思维模式由被动转变为主动、团队合作意识增强、学习兴趣热情提升、克服困难的勇气与自信心增强、自主设计与创新能力提升等。信息时代的生命科学已由传统的实验性科学转变为由思维分析主导的实验设计兼由设计主导的实验论证性科学,而应用生物信息学课程正是训练信息时代相关科研能力的重要环节。论文实施的系统化综合性教学改革取得了一定成效,值得借鉴与交流。黎志凤 刘杨 朱敬 SINGH Raghvendra Pratap 李越中 2016微生物学通报2016,43,8:7
3Next-generation sequencing in clinical virology: Discovery of new viruses显示文摘Viruses are a cause of significant health problem world-wide, especially in the developing nations. Due to different anthropological activities, human populations are exposed to different viral pathogens, many of which emerge as outbreaks. In such situations, discovery of novel viruses is utmost important for deciding prevention and treatment strategies. Since last century, a number of different virus discovery methods, based on cell culture inoculation, sequence-independent PCR have been used for identification of a variety of viruses. However, the recent emergence and commercial availability of nextgeneration sequencers(NGS) has entirely changed the field of virus discovery. These massively parallel sequencing platforms can sequence a mixture of genetic materials from a very heterogeneous mix, with high sensitivity. Moreover, these platforms work in a sequenceindependent manner, making them ideal tools for virus discovery. However, for their application in clinics, sample preparation or enrichment is necessary to detect low abundance virus populations. A number of techniques have also been developed for enrichment or viral nucleic acids. In this manuscript, we review the evolution of sequencing; NGS technologies available today as well as widely used virus enrichment technologies. 4Salmonella typhi and gallbladder cancer:report from an endemic region显示文摘BACKGROUND:Evidence exists of a link between chronic infection by Salmonella typhi(S.typhi) and the development of gallbladder cancer(GBC),but several studies from endemic regions contradict its role in the etiopathogenesis of GBC.This study used various tools to assess the prevalence of S.typhi in patients with GBC and gallstone disease(GSD) in this region with a high incidence of GBC.METHODS:S.typhi was detected in tissue and bile by PCR and culture and in serum by the Widal test and indirect hemagglutination assay(IHA).PCR with two pairs of S.typhi specific primers(flagellin gene H1d and SOP E gene) could detect 0.6 ng of S.typhi DNA.Fifty-four patients with GBC(cases) were matched with 54 patients with GSD(controls).RESULTS:Of the 54 cases,24(44.44%) were positive on the Widal test and 12(22.22%) on IHA,compared to 13(24.07%) and 5(9.26%) respectively in the controls.Eighteen(33.33%) cases showed a positive result on PCR(tissue) and 2 on PCR(bile) vs.none in the controls.Bile culture revealed no Salmonella colonies in either cases or controls.Only 3 cases were positive for Salmonella on tissue culture compared to none in the controls.The sensitivity of PCR(tissue) relative to the Widal test,IHA,culture(bile and tissue) and PCR(bile) was 100% vs.66.67%,11.11%,and 11.11%,and the specificity was 83.33% vs.100%,100%,and 100%,respectively.CONCLUSIONS:S.typhi is significantly associated with GBC compared to GSD(33% vs.0%).PCR appears to be the most specific diagnostic tool,the gold standard for S.typhi in tissue samples.Mallika Tewari Raghvendra R Mishra Hari S Shukla 2010Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2010,9,5:5
5Helicobacter species and pathogenesis of gallbladder cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND:Gallbladder cancer(GBC)is a rare disease but a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide.A number of etiological factors have been implicated in the causation of GBC and pathogenic infection by bacteria is one of these. DATA SOURCES:A PubMed search on'helicobacter','gall- bladder cancer',and'biliary tract malignancies'was done on the topic,and the relevant data were collected,reviewed,and analyzed. RESULTS:Helicobacter is an epsilon proteobacterium that infects the mucosal lining of the human gastrobiliary system. Infection with helicobacter is an important risk factor for the development of cancer and the bacterium has been categorized as a group-Ⅰcarcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer(IARC).These microbes enter the human body by means of contaminated food and water.Thereby they invade the tissues and produce chemical carcinogens that lead to DNA damage and subsequently a series of gene mutations transform normal cells into cancer cells.In this review,we focus our attention on the role of helicobacter in the causation of biliary tract malignancies.
