1Progress and recent trend in MILD combustion显示文摘Moderate or intense low oxygen dilution(MILD)combustion plays a significant role in the mitigation of combustion-generated pollutants and greenhouse gases whilst meeting thermal efficiency needs.However,due to the lack of the fundamental knowledge on this combustion,there is a misconception that MILD combustion should be established by high preheating of the air,which has limited its application.Our research and development on this combustion has been performed for several years. 2Activated carbon adsorption of quinolone antibiotics in water:Performance,mechanism,and modeling显示文摘The extensive use of antibiotics has led to their presence in the aquatic environment, and introduces potential impacts on human and ecological health. The capability of powdered activated carbon(PAC) to remove six frequently used quinolone(QN) antibiotics during water treatment was evaluated to improve drinking water safety. The kinetics of QN adsorption by PAC was best described by a pseudo second-order equation, and the adsorption capacity was well described by the Freundlich isotherm equation. Isotherms measured at different p H showed that hydrophobic interaction, electrostatic interaction,and π–π dispersion force were the main mechanisms for adsorption of QNs by PAC. A p H-dependent isotherm model based on the Freundlich equation was developed to predict the adsorption capacity of QNs by PAC at different p H values. This model had excellent prediction capabilities under different laboratory scenarios. Small relative standard derivations(RSDs), i.e., 0.59%–0.92% for ciprofloxacin and 0.09%–3.89% for enrofloxacin,were observed for equilibrium concentrations above the 0.3 mg/L level. The RSDs increased to 11.9% for ciprofloxacin and 32.1% for enrofloxacin at μg/L equilibrium levels, which is still acceptable. 5A quasi-global 1/10° eddy-resolving ocean general circulation model and its preliminary results显示文摘In this study,a quasi-global(excluding the Arctic Ocean) eddy-resolving ocean general circulation model(OGCM) is established based on the latest version of the LASG/IAP Climate system Ocean Model(LICOM2.0).The horizontal resolution and vertical resolution are increased to 1/10° and 55 layers,respectively.Forced by the surface fluxes from the reanalysis and observed data,the model has been integrated for approximately 20 model years(20 a).During the last 8 a,the model is driven by daily mean wind stresses from QuikSCAT and heat fluxes from reanalysis data from 2000 to 2007.The basic performance of the OGCM is analyzed using the last 8 a simulation output.Compared with the simulation of the coarse-resolution OGCM,the eddy-resolving OGCM not only better simulates the spatial-temporal features of mesoscale eddies and the paths and positions of western boundary currents but also reproduces the large meander of the Kuroshio Current and its interannual variability.Another aspect,namely,the complex structures of equatorial Pacific currents and currents in the coastal ocean of China,are better captured due to the increased horizontal and vertical resolution.YU YongQiang LIU HaiLong LIN PengFei 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,30:18
6Genetic and biological characteristics of the globally circulating H5N8 avian influenza viruses and the protective efficacy offered by the poultry vaccine currently used in China显示文摘The H5N8 avian influenza viruses have been widely circulating in wild birds and are responsible for the loss of over 33 million domestic poultry in Europe, Russia, Middle East, and Asia since January 2020. To monitor the invasion and spread of the H5N8 virus in China, we performed active surveillance by analyzing 317 wild bird samples and swab samples collected from 41,172 poultry all over the country. We isolated 22 H5N8 viruses from wild birds and 14 H5N8 viruses from waterfowls. Genetic analysis indicated that the 36 viruses formed two different genotypes: one genotype viruses were widely detected from different wild birds and domestic waterfowls;the other genotype was isolated from a whopper swan. We further revealed the origin and spatiotemporal spread of these two distinct H5N8 virus genotypes in 2020 and 2021. Animal studies indicated that the H5N8 isolates are highly pathogenic to chickens, mildly pathogenic in ducks, but have distinct pathotypes in mice. Moreover, we found that vaccinated poultry in China could be completely protected against H5N8 virus challenge. 8Meso-scale eddy in the South China Sea simulated by an eddy-resolving ocean model显示文摘Mesoscale eddies(MEs) in the South China Sea(SCS) simulated by a quasi-global eddy-resolving ocean general circulation model are evaluated against satellite data during 1993–2007. The modeled ocean data show more activity than shown by the satellite data and reproduces more eddies in the SCS. A total of 345(428) cyclonic eddies(CEs) and 330(371) anti-cyclonic eddies(AEs) generated for satellite(model) data are identified during the study period, showing increase of ~24% and ~12% for the model data, respectively. Compared with eddies in satellite, the simulated eddies tend to have smaller radii, larger amplitudes, a slightly longer lifetime, faster movement and rotation speed, a slightly larger nonlinear properties(U/c) in the model. However, the spatial distribution of generated eddies appears to be inhomogeneous, with more CEs in the northern part of SCS and fewer AEs in the southern part. This is attributed to the exaggerated Kuroshio intrusion in the model because the small islands in the Luzon Strait are still not well resolved although the horizontal resolution reaches(1/10)°. 9The Hiatus and Accelerated Warming Decades in CMIP5 Simulations显示文摘Observed hiatus or accelerated warming phenomena are compared with numerical simulations from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5) archives, and the associated physical mechanisms are explored based on the CMIP5 models. Decadal trends in total ocean heat content(OHC) are strongly constrained by net top-of-atmosphere(TOA) radiation.During hiatus decades, most CMIP5 models exhibit a significant decrease in the SST and upper OHC and a significant increase of heat penetrating into the subsurface or deep ocean, opposite to the accelerated warming decades. The shallow meridional overturning of the Pacific subtropical cell experiences a significant strengthening(slowdown) for the hiatus(accelerated warming) decades associated with the strengthened(weakened) trade winds over the tropical Pacific. Both surface heating and ocean dynamics contribute to the decadal changes in SST over the Indian Ocean, and the Indonesian Throughflow has a close relationship with the changes of subsurface temperature in the Indian Ocean. 10The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE) mission: An overview显示文摘The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE), dubbed “Xihe”—Goddess of the Sun, was launched on October 14, 2021 as the first solar space mission of China National Space Administration(CNSA). The CHASE mission is designed to test a newly developed satellite platform and to acquire the spectroscopic observations in the Hα waveband. The Hα Imaging Spectrograph(HIS)is the scientific payload of the CHASE satellite. It consists of two observational modes: raster scanning mode and continuum imaging mode. The raster scanning mode obtains full-Sun or region-of-interest spectral images from 6559.7 to 6565.9 ? and from 6567.8 to 6570.6 ? with 0.024 ? pixel spectral resolution and 1 min temporal resolution. The continuum imaging mode obtains photospheric images in continuum around 6689 ? with the full width at half maximum of 13.4 ?. The CHASE mission will advance our understanding of the dynamics of solar activity in the photosphere and chromosphere. 11MODIS-based Daily Lake Ice Extent and Coverage dataset for Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau houses numerous lakes,the phenology and duration of lake ice in this region are sensitive to regional and global climate change,and as such are used as key indicators in climate change research,particularly in environment change comparison studies for the Earth three poles.However,due to its harsh natural environment and sparse population,there is a lack of conventional in situ measurement on lake ice phenology.The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)Normalized Difference Snow Index(NDSI)data,which can be traced back 20 years with a 500 m spatial resolution,were used to monitor lake ice for filling the observation gaps.Daily lake ice extent and coverage under clear-sky conditions was examined by employing the conventional SNOWMAP algorithm,and those under cloud cover conditions were re-determined using the temporal and spatial continuity of lake surface conditions through a series of steps.Through time series analysis of every single lake with size greater than 3 km2 in size,308 lakes within the Tibetan Plateau were identified as the effective records of lake ice extent and coverage to form the Daily Lake Ice Extent and Coverage dataset,including 216 lakes that can be further retrieved with four determinable lake ice parameters:Freeze-up Start(FUS),Freeze-up End(FUE),Break-up Start(BUS),and Break-up End(BUE),and 92 lakes with two parameters,FUS and BUE.Six lakes of different sizes and locations were selected for verification against the published datasets by passive microwave remote sensing.The lake ice phenology information obtained in this paper was highly consistent with that from passive microwave data at an average correlation coefficient of 0.91 and an RMSE value varying from 0.07 to 0.13.The present dataset is more effective at detecting lake ice parameters for smaller lakes than the coarse resolution passive microwave remote sensing observations.The published data are available in http://gffzz324c53c67c144612sxvfb0b09wc9n6q9c.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/repository/uuid:fdfd8c76-6b7c-4bbf-aec8-98ab199d9093 and http://gffzzc14d9fd2be724b39hxvfb0b09wc9n6q9c.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/dataSet/handle/744.Yubao Qiu Pengfei Xie Matti Leppäranta Xingxing Wang Juha Lemmetyinen Hui Lin Lijuan Shi 2019Big Earth Data2019,3,2:7
12The FGOALS climate system model as a modeling tool for supporting climate sciences:An overview显示文摘Climate system models are useful tools for understanding the interactions among the components of the climate system and predicting/projecting future climate change. The development of climate models has been a central focus of the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences(LASG/IAP) since the establishment of the laboratory in 1985. In China, many pioneering component models and fully coupled models of the climate system have been developed by LASG/IAP. The fully coupled climate system developed in the recent decade is named FGOALS(Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System Model). In this paper, an application-oriented review of the LASG/IAP FGOALS model is presented. The improved model performances are demonstrated in the context of cloud-radiation processes, Asian monsoon, ENSO phenomena, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation(AMOC) and sea ice. The FGOALS model has contributed to both CMIP5(Coupled Model Intercomparison Project-phase 5) and IPCC(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) AR5(the Fifth Assessment Report). The release of FGOALS data has supported the publication of nearly 500 papers around the world. The results of FGOALS are cited ~106 times in the IPCC WG1(Working Group 1) AR5. In addition to the traditional long-term simulations and projections, near-term decadal climate prediction is a new set of CMIP experiment, progress of LAGS/IAP in the development of nearterm decadal prediction system is reviewed. The FGOALS model has supported many Chinese national-level research projects and contributed to the national climate change assessment report. 13Manipulation of Band Degeneracy and Lattice Strain for Extraordinary PbTe Thermoelectrics显示文摘Maximizing band degeneracy and minimizing phonon relaxation time are proven to be successful for advancing thermoelectrics.Alloying with monotellurides has been known to be an effective approach for converging the valence bands of PbTe for electronic improvements,while the lattice thermal conductivity of the materials remains available room for being further reduced.It is recently revealed that the broadening of phonon dispersion measures the strength of phonon scattering,and lattice dislocations are particularly effective sources for such broadening through lattice strain fluctuations.In this work,a fine control of MnTe and EuTe alloying enables a significant increase in density of electron states near the valence band edge of PbTe due to involvement of multiple transporting bands,while the creation of dense in-grain dislocations leads to an effective broadening in phonon dispersion for reduced phonon lifetime due to the large strain fluctuations of dislocations as confirmed by synchrotron X-ray diffraction.The synergy of both electronic and thermal improvements successfully leads the average thermoelectric figure of merit to be higher than that ever reported for p-type PbTe at working temperatures.Yixuan Wu Pengfei Nan Zhiwei Chen Zezhu Zeng Siqi Lin Xinyue Zhang Hongliang Dong Zhiqiang Chen Hongkai Gu Wen Li Yue Chen Binghui Ge Yanzhong Pei 2020Research2020,,1:6
14Development of a machine learning model to predict early recurrence for hepatocellular carcinoma after curative resection显示文摘Background:Early recurrence is common for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)after surgical resection,being the leading cause of death.Traditionally,the COX proportional hazard(CPH)models based on linearity assumption have been used to predict early recurrence,but predictive performance is limited.Machine learning models offer a novel methodology and have several advantages over CPH models.Hence,the purpose of this study was to compare random survival forests(RSF)model with CPH models in prediction of early recurrence for HCC patients after curative resection.Methods:A total of 4,758 patients undergoing curative resection from two medical centers were included.Fifteen features including age,gender,etiology,platelet count,albumin,total bilirubin,AFP,tumor size,tumor number,microvascular invasion,macrovascular invasion,Edmondson-Steiner grade,tumor capsular,satellite nodules and liver cirrhosis were used to construct the RSF model in training cohort.Discrimination,calibration,clinical usefulness and overall performance were assessed and compared with other models.Results:Five hundred survival trees were used to generate the RFS model.The five highest Variable Importance(VIMP)were tumor size,macrovascular invasion,microvascular invasion,tumor number and AFP.In training,internal and external validation cohort,the C-index of RSF model were 0.725[standard errors(SE)=0.005],0.762(SE=0.011)and 0.747(SE=0.016),respectively;the Gönen&Heller’s K of RSF model were 0.684(SE=0.005),0.711(SE=0.008)and 0.697(SE=0.014),respectively;the time-dependent AUC(2 years)of RSF model were 0.818(SE=0.008),0.823(SE=0.014)and 0.785(SE=0.025),respectively.The RSF model outperformed early recurrence after surgery for liver tumor(ERASL)model,Korean model,American Joint Committee on Cancer tumor-node-metastasis(AJCC TNM)stage,Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)stage and Chinese stage.The RSF model is capable of stratifying patients into three different risk groups(low-risk,intermediate-risk,high-risk groups)in the training and two validation cohorts(all P<0.0001).A web-based prediction tool was built to facilitate clinical application(http://gffzz8caf4f582aa3478esxvfb0b09wc9n6q9c.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/surgery_predict/).Conclusions:The RSF model is a reliable tool to predict early recurrence for patients with HCC after curative resection because it exhibited superior performance compared with other models.This novel model will be helpful to guide postoperative follow-up and adjuvant therapy.Jianxing Zeng Jinhua Zeng Kongying Lin Haitao Lin Qionglan Wu Pengfei Guo Weiping Zhou Jingfeng Liu 2022Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition2022,11,2:6
15Possible mechanism underlying analgesic effect of Tuina in rats may involve piezo mechanosensitive channels within dorsal root ganglia axon显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the analgesic effect of Tuina mainly from mechanically sensitive ion channels in peripheral myelinated nerve fibers.METHODS: A total of 40 healthy and pathogen-free adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were used in the study [weight:(220.0 ± 1.4) g, Shanghai Slac Laboratory Animal Co., Ltd., Shanghai, China; license No. Shanghai ICP 05033115]. The rats were housed in cages with free access to water and food in a temperature-controlled room [(22 ± 1) ℃] and12-h/12-h light-dark cycle. Thirty-two rats were randomly divided into five groups: naive, sham, chronic compression of dorsal root ganglion(CCD), Tuina(7 d) and Tuina(21 d). CCD rat model was established via unilateral DRG compression by'L'liked steel bar. Chinese Tuina treatment was accepted once per day. Behavior monitoring of paw withdrawal threshold(PWT) and paw withdrawal latency(PWL) were tested. The expression of Piezo1 and Piezo2 in myelinated nerve fiber were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and Western-blotting.RESULTS: There was a high expression of Piezo2 and a low expression of Piezo1 in the naive and CCD groups. In contrast, the expression of Piezo2 was down regulated and Piezo1 was increased after a period of Tuina. 17Quantitative Analysis of the Feedback Induced by the Freshwater Flux in the Tropical Pacific Using CMIP5显示文摘Freshwater flux(FWF) directly affects sea surface salinity(SSS) and hence modulates sea surface temperature(SST) in the tropical Pacific. This paper quantifies a positive correlation between FWF and SST using observations and simulations of the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP5) to analyze the interannual variability in the tropical Pacific. Comparisons among the displacements of FWF,SSS and SST interannual variabilities illustrate that a large FWF variability is located in the west-central equatorial Pacific,covarying with a large SSS variability,whereas a large SST variability is located in the eastern equatorial Pacific. Most CMIP5 models can reproduce the fact that FWF leads to positive feedback to SST through an SSS anomaly as observed. However,the difference in each model's performance results from different simulation capabilities of the CMIP5 models in the magnitudes and positions of the interannual variabilities,including the mixed layer depth and the buoyancy flux in the equatorial Pacific. SSS anomalies simulated from the CMIP5 multi-model are sensitive to FWF interannual anomalies,which can lead to differences in feedback to interannual SST variabilities. The relationships among the FWF,SSS and SST interannual variabilities can be derived using linear quantitative measures from observations and the CMIP5 multi-model simulations. 18Two regimes of Atlantic multidecadal oscillation: cross-basin dependent or Atlantic-intrinsic显示文摘The Atlantic Multidedal Oscillation(AMO) is a prominent mode of sea surface temperature variability in the Atlantic and incurs significant global influence. Most coupled models failed to reproduce the observed 50–80-year AMO, but were overwhelmed by a 10–30-year AMO. Here we show that the 50–80-year AMO and 10–30-year AMO represent two different AMO regimes. The key differences are:(1) the 50–80-year AMO involves transport of warm and saline Atlantic water into the Greenland-Iceland-Norwegian(GIN)Seas prior to reaching its maximum positive phase, while such a transport is weak for the 10–30-year AMO;(2) the zonality of atmospheric variability associated with the 50–80 year AMO favors the transport of warm and saline water into the GIN Seas;(3) the disappearance of Pacific variability weakens the zonality of atmospheric variability and the transport of warm and saline water into the GIN Seas, leading to the weakening of the 50–80-year AMO. In contrast, the 10–30-year AMO does not show dependence on the variability in Pacific and in the GIN Seas and may be an Atlantic-intrinsic mode. 19In vivo superresolution photoacoustic computed tomography by localization of single dyed droplets显示文摘Photoacoustic(PA)computed tomography(PACT)is a noninvasive hybrid imaging technique that combines optical excitation and acoustic detection to realize high contrast,high resolution,and deep penetration in biological tissues.However,the spatial resolution of PACT is limited by acoustic diffraction.Here,we report in vivo superresolution PACT,which breaks the acoustic diffraction limit by localizing the centers of single dyed droplets that are flowing in blood vessels.The droplets were prepared by dissolving hydrophobic absorbing dye in oil,followed by mixing with water.The dyed droplets generate much higher-amplitude PA signals than blood and can flow smoothly in vessels;thus,they are excellent tracers for localization-based superresolution imaging.The in vivo resolution enhancement was demonstrated by continuously imaging the cortical layer of a mouse brain during droplet injection.The droplets that were flowing in the vessels were localized,and their center positions were used to construct a superresolution image that exhibits sharper features and more finely resolved vascular details.An improvement in spatial resolution by a factor of 6 has been realized in vivo by the droplet localization technique.Pengfei Zhang Lei Li Li Lin Junhui Shi Lihong V.Wang 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:6
20Suppression of strong random noise in seismic data by using time-frequency peak filtering显示文摘Time-frequency peak filtering (TFPF) is highly efficient in suppressing random noise in seismic data. Although the hypothesis of stationary Gaussian white noise cannot be fulfilled in practical seismic data, TFPF can effectively suppress white and colored random noise with different intensities, as can be theoretically demonstrated by detecting such noise in synthetic seismic data. However, a 'zero-drift' effect is observed in the filtered signal and is independent of the average power and variance of the random noise, but related to its mean value. Furthermore, we consider the situation where the local linearization of the seismic data cannot be satisfied absolutely and study the 'distortion' characteristics of the filtered signal using TFPF on a triangular wave. We found that over-compensation is possible in the frequency band for the triangular wave. In addition, it is nonsymmetrical and has a relationship to the time-varying curvature of the seismic wavelet.
