| 1 | Synergistic anticancer effect of green synthesized nickel nanoparticles and quercetin extracted from Ocimum sanctum leaf extract显示文摘Leaf extract of medicinally important plant Ocimum sanctum(O. sanctum) has been used for the synthesis of nickel nanoparticles(Ni Gs) and extraction of quercetin(Qu). Qu has been conjugated with Ni Gs for enhanced anticancer effect on human breast cancer MCF–7 cells. Extracted Qu was conjugated with polyethylene glycol(PEG) coated Ni Gs(Qu–PEG–Ni Gs) which was used as carriers for breast cancer treatment. Anticancer activity of Qu–PEG–Ni Gs was evaluated by assessing cell viability, reactive oxygen species(ROS) production, caspase activity, mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) and changes in nuclear morphology(staining methods). 0.85 mg of quercetin was extracted from 1 g of leaves with retention time(R_t) of 2.914 min. Loading and encapsulation efficiency of quercetin onto PEG–Ni Gs was 15.04% and 82% respectively and Qu–PEG–Ni Gs has shown a sustained release of Qu of about 84% after 48 h. Qu and Qu–PEG–Ni Gs showed dose dependent(1.56–50 μg/m L) anticancer effect against MCF–7 cells with IC50 values of 50 and 6.25 μg/m L respectively which was mediated by oxidative stress due to ROS over-production that induced loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, capsase-9,-7 activities leading to apoptosis. | 2 | Training medical undergraduates in the core disciplines of community medicine through community postings-an experience from India显示文摘Objective:Family medicine,epidemiology,health management and health promotion are the core disciplines of community medicine.In this paper,we discuss the development of a commu-nity posting program within the framework of community medicine core disciplines at a primary health centre attached to a teaching hospital in Puducherry,India.Methods:This is a process documentation of our experience.Results:There were some shortcomings which revolved around the central theme that post-ings were conducted with department in the teaching hospital as the focal point,not the primary health centre(PHC).To address the shortcomings,we made some changes in the existing com-munity posting program in 2013.Student feedback aimed at Kirkpatrick level 1(satisfaction)evaluation revealed that they appreciated the benefits of having the posting with PHC as the focal point.Feedback recommended some further changes in the community posting which could be addressed through complete administrative control of the primary health centre as urban health and training center of the teaching hospital;and also through practice of core disciplines of com-munity medicine by faculty of community medicine.Conclusion:It is important to introduce the medical undergraduates to the core disciplines of community medicine early through community postings.Community postings should be con-ducted with primary health centre or urban health and training centre as the focal point. | Hemant Deepak Shewade Chinnakali Palanivel Kathiresan Jeyashree | 2016 | Family Medicine and Community Health2016,4,3: | 5 |
| 3 | Rare earth(Gd,La) co-doped ZnO nanoflowers for direct sunlight driven photocatalytic activity显示文摘In this work Gd/La@ZnO nanoflower photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by a co-precipitation method and applied for rhodamine B(Rh B) and tetracycline(TCN) degradation under direct sunlight irradiation.The doping of rare earth elements extends the optical absorption wavelength of ZnO from UV region(390 nm) to visible-light region(401 nm).In addition,the co-doped ZnO nanoflower exhibits a lower charge recombination efficiency which was confirmed by photoluminescence emission analysis.Moreover,the co-doped ZnO nanoflower exhibits the maximum degradation efficiency of 91% for Rh B and 74% for TCN under sunlight irradiation.The calculated synergistic index of co-doped ZnO is higher than that of the pure ZnO.Reactive radicals’ production was confirmed by terephthalic acid(TA) and nitro-blue tetrazolium(NBT) tests.The holes and hydroxyl(·OH) radicals play the major role in degradation reaction and it was confirmed by scavenger’s test.Moreover,the recycling test confirms the stability of the photocatalyst. | Baskaran Palanivel Romulo R.Macadangdang Jr Md Shahadat Hossain Fahad A.Alharthi Mohanraj Kumar Jih-Hsing Chang Sreedevi Gedi | 2023 | Journal of Rare Earths2023,41,1: | 3 |

| 5 | Malaria profiles and challenges in artemisinin resistance containment in Myanmar显示文摘Background:This study examined evolving malaria profiles from January,2010 to December,2014 to evaluate achievements and challenges of implementing measures to prevent and control spread of artemisinin resistance in Myanmar.Methods:Using National Malaria Control Programme(NMCP)data,a cross-sectional descriptive study of 52 townships in artemisinin-resistant containment areas in Myanmar was conducted.Annual program data were analysed,and trends over time are graphically presented.Results:In the 52 study townships populated by 8.7 million inhabitants,malaria incidence showed a decreasing trend from 10.54 per 1000 population in 2010 to 2.53 in 2014,and malaria mortalities also decreased from 1.83 per 100000 population in 2010 to 0.17 in 2014.The proportion of confirmed to total tested malaria cases also decreased from 6 to 1%,while identification of cases improved.All cases from all parasites species,including Plasmodium falciparum,decreased.Coverage of LLIN(long-lasting insecticidal net)/ITN(insecticide-treated mosquito nets)and indoor residual spraying(IRS)was high in targeted areas with at-risk persons,even though the total population was not covered.In addition to passive case detection(PCD),active case detection(ACD)was conducted in hard-to-reach areas and worksites where mobile migrant populations were present.ACD improved in most areas from 2012 to 2014,but continues to need to be strengthened.Conclusions:The findings provide useful data on the malaria situation in artemisinin-resistant initiative areas,which may be useful for the NMCP to meet its elimination goal.These profiles could contribute to better planning,implementation,and evaluation of intervention activities. | Thet Wai Nwe Tin Oo Khin Thet Wai Shuisen Zhou Johan van Griensven Palanivel Chinnakali Safieh Shah Aung Thi | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 2 |
