| 1 | Malnutrition and liver disease in a developing country显示文摘Malnutrition is a highly prevalent and under recognized condition in developing countries of South Asia.The presence of malnutrition causes a severe impact on patients with liver cirrhosis.The etiology of cirrhosis differs in the South Asian region compared to the West,with hepatitis B and C still being the leading causes and the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease increasing over time.Comorbid malnutrition worsens outcomes for cirrhosis patients.Urgent attention to address malnutrition is needed to improve patient outcomes.The etiology and pathophysiology of malnutrition in liver diseases is multifactorial,as reduction in liver function affects both macronutrients and micronutrients.A need for nutritional status assessment for liver disease patients exists in all parts of the world.There are many widely studied tools in use to perform a thorough nutritional assessment,of which some tools are low cost and do not require extensive training.These tools can be studied and evaluated for use in the resource limited setting of a country like Pakistan.Treatment guidelines for proper nutrition maintenance in chronic liver disease exist for all parts of the world,but the knowledge and practice of nutritional counseling in Pakistan is poor,both amongst patients and physicians.Emphasis on assessment for nutritional status at the initial visit with recording of vital signs is needed.Simultaneously,treating physicians need to be made aware of the misconceptions surrounding nutritional restrictions in cirrhosis so that patient education is done correctly based on proper scientific evidence. | Asra tus Saleha Siddiqui Om Parkash Syeda Amrah Hashmi | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,30: | 3 |

| 14 | Root Structure,Distribution and Biomass in Five Multipurpose Tree Species of Western Himalayas显示文摘The tree root distribution pattern and biomass of seventeen year old trees of Grewia optiva, Morus alba, Celtis australis, Bauhinia variegata and Robinia pseudoacacia were studied by excavation method. B. variegata roots penetrated to a maximum depth of 4.78 m, whereas, M. alba roots were found down to 1.48 m depth. Lateral spread was minimum in B. variegata(1.10 m) and maximum in R. pseudoacacia(7.33 m). Maximum root biomass of 6.30 kg was found in R. pseudoacacia and minimum(2.43 kg) was found in M. alba. For four species viz., G. optiva, M. alba, C. australis and R. pseudoacacia, 68%-87% root biomass occurred within top 0-30 cm soil depth, but for B. variegata this was only 45%. The soil binding factor was maximum in G. optiva and minimum in B. variegata. Soil physico-chemical properties also showed wide variation. The study suggests that B. variegata with a deep root system is the most suitable species for plantation under agroforestry systems. | 16 | Co-exposure of sulfur nanoparticles and Cu alleviate Cu stress and toxicity to oilseed rape Brassica napus L.显示文摘Experimentswere performed to explore the impact of sulfur nanoparticles(SNPs)on growth,Cu accumulation,and physiological and biochemical responses of oilseed rape(Brassica napus L.)inoculated with 5 mg/L Cu-amended MS medium supplemented with or without 300 mg/L SNPs exposure.Cu exerted severe phytotoxicity and inhibited plant growth.SNPs application enhanced the shoot height,root length,and dry weight of shoot and root by 34.6%,282%,41.7%and 37.1%,respectively,over Cu treatment alone,while the shoot and root Cu contents and Cu-induced lipid perodixation as the malondialdehyde(MDA)levels in shoots and roots were decreased by 37.6%,35%,28.4%and 26.8%.Further,the increases in superoxide dismutase(SOD),peroxidase(POD),catalase(CAT),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),glutathione reductase(GR)and glutathione S-transferase(GST)enzyme activities caused by Cu stress were mitigated in shoots(10.9%–37.1%)and roots(14.6%–35.3%)with SNPs addition.SNPs also positively counteracted the negative effects on shoot K,Ca,P,Mg,Mn,Zn and Fe contents and root K,Ca,Mg and Mn contents from Cu exposure alone,and significantly promoted the nutrients accumulation in plant.Additionally,in comparison with common bulk sulfur particles(BSPs)and sulfate,SNPs showed more positive effects on promoting growth in shoots(6.7%and 19.5%)and roots(10.9%and 15.1%),as well as lowering the shoot Cu content(40.1%and 43.3%)under Cu stress.Thus,SNPs application has potential to be a green and sustainable technology for increasing plant productivity and reducing accumulation of toxic metals in heavy metal polluted soils. | Haiyan Yuan Qingquan Liu Jiahao Fu Yinjie Wang Yongxia Zhang Yuming Sun Haiying Tong Om Parkash Dhankher | 2023 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,2: | 0 |
