1Root Structure,Distribution and Biomass in Five Multipurpose Tree Species of Western Himalayas显示文摘The tree root distribution pattern and biomass of seventeen year old trees of Grewia optiva, Morus alba, Celtis australis, Bauhinia variegata and Robinia pseudoacacia were studied by excavation method. B. variegata roots penetrated to a maximum depth of 4.78 m, whereas, M. alba roots were found down to 1.48 m depth. Lateral spread was minimum in B. variegata(1.10 m) and maximum in R. pseudoacacia(7.33 m). Maximum root biomass of 6.30 kg was found in R. pseudoacacia and minimum(2.43 kg) was found in M. alba. For four species viz., G. optiva, M. alba, C. australis and R. pseudoacacia, 68%-87% root biomass occurred within top 0-30 cm soil depth, but for B. variegata this was only 45%. The soil binding factor was maximum in G. optiva and minimum in B. variegata. Soil physico-chemical properties also showed wide variation. The study suggests that B. variegata with a deep root system is the most suitable species for plantation under agroforestry systems. R. pseudoacacia and G. optiva with deep root systems, more lateral spread and high soil binding factor are suitable for plantation on degraded lands for soil conservation.Kartar Singh VERMA Sandeep KOHLI Rajesh KAUSHAL Om Parkash CHATURVEDI 2014Journal of Mountain Science2014,11,2:1
2Effect of geojute technique on density, diversity and carbon stock of plant species in landslide site of North West Himalaya显示文摘Mountainous regions of the globe experience landslides due to heavy rainfall and unplanned construction on slopes. Geojute is adopted globally as a landslide rehabilitation measure, but its impact on natural vegetation development is poorly understood. The present study was conducted to examine the impact of geojute application on vegetation restoration, ecology and carbon stock in a recently occurred landslide, during 2012. The results revealed that the geojute application improved the richness, diversity, density and basal area of plant species at the landslide site. Likewise, biomass production, carbon stock and carbon sequestration of plant species was observed significantly higher in geojute treatments compared to control(without geojute treatment). Moreover, significant improvement in soil moisture was recorded beneath the geojute treatments. Further, results showed that the geojute is highly effective in controlling soil erosion at the landslide site. The findings of this study revealed ecological and environmental benefits of geojute application in term of improvement in vegetation recovery processes, species diversity and carbon sequestration at the landslide site. The scientific outcome of this study can be helpful for planning the rehabilitation measures in landslide affected regions of the globe.Harsh MEHTA Raj KUMAR M Ayub DAR GP JUYAL Sridhar PATRA Sneha DOBHAL AC RATHORE Rajesh KAUSHAL PK MISHRA 2018Journal of Mountain Science2018,15,9:0
3Technologically Advanced Reusable 3D Face Shield for Health Workers Confronting COVID19显示文摘The probability of medical staff to get affected from COVID19 is much higher due to their working environment which is more exposed to infectious diseases. So,as a preventive measure the body temperature monitoring of medical staff at regular intervals is highly recommended.Infrared temperature sensing guns have proved its effectiveness and therefore such devices are used to monitor the body temperature. These devices are either used on hands or forehead. As a result, there are many issues in monitoring the temperature of frontline healthcare professionals.Firstly, these healthcare professionals keep wearing PPE(Personal Protective Equipment)kits during working hours and as a result it would be very difficult to monitor their body temperature.Secondly, these healthcare professionals also wear face shields and in such cases monitoring temperature by exposing forehead needs removal of face shield.Doing so after regular intervals is surely uncomfortable for healthcare professionals. To avoid such issues, this paper is disclosing a technologically advanced face shield equipped with sensors capable of monitoring body temperature instantly without the hassle of removing the face shield. This face shield is integrated with a built-in infrared temperature sensor.A total of 10 such face shields were printed and assembled within the university lab and then handed over to a group of ten members including faculty and students of nursing and health science department. This sequence was repeated four times and as a result 40 healthcare workers participated in the study.Thereafter, feedback analysis was conducted on questionnaire data and found a significant overall mean score of 4.59 out of 5 which indicates that the product is effective and worthy in every facet.Stress analysis is also performed in the simulated environment and found that the device can easily withstand the typically applied forces. The limitations of this product are difficulty in cleaning the product and comparatively high cost due to the deployment of electronic equipment.Rajesh Kumar Kaushal Naveen Kumar Vinay Kukreja Fahd S.Alharithi Ahmed H.Almulihi Arturo Ortega Mansilla Shikha Rani 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,8:0
