2Programmable time-domain digital-coding metasurface for non-linear harmonic manipulation and new wireless communication systems显示文摘Optical non-linear phenomena are typically observed in natural materials interacting with light at high intensities, and they benefit a diverse range of applications from communication to sensing. However,controlling harmonic conversion with high efficiency and flexibility remains a major issue in modern optical and radio-frequency systems. Here, we introduce a dynamic time-domain digital-coding metasurface that enables efficient manipulation of spectral harmonic distribution. By dynamically modulating the local phase of the surface reflectivity, we achieve accurate control of different harmonics in a highly programmable and dynamic fashion, enabling unusual responses, such as velocity illusion. As a relevant application, we propose and realize a novel architecture for wireless communication systems based on the time-domain digital-coding metasurface, which largely simplifies the architecture of modern communication systems, at the same time yielding excellent performance for real-time signal transmission. 4SlMYB75,an MYB-type transcription factor,promotes anthocyanin accumulation and enhances volatile aroma production in tomato fruits显示文摘Genetic manipulation of genes to upregulate specific branches of metabolic pathways is a method that is commonly used to improve fruit quality.However,the use of a single gene to impact several metabolic pathways is difficult.Here,we show that overexpression of the single gene SlMYB75(SlMYB75-OE)is effective at improving multiple fruit quality traits.In these engineered fruits,the anthocyanin content reached 1.86mg g−1 fresh weight at the red-ripe stage,and these SlMYB75-OE tomatoes displayed a series of physiological changes,including delayed ripening and increased ethylene production.In addition to anthocyanin,the total contents of phenolics,flavonoids and soluble solids in SlMYB75-OE fruits were enhanced by 2.6,4,and 1.2 times,respectively,compared to those of wild-type(WT)fruits.Interestingly,a number of aroma volatiles,such as aldehyde,phenylpropanoid-derived and terpene volatiles,were significantly increased in SlMYB75-OE fruits,with some terpene volatiles showing more than 10 times higher levels than those in WT fruits.Consistent with the metabolic assessment,transcriptomic profiling indicated that the genes involved in the ethylene signaling,phenylpropanoid and isoprenoid pathways were greatly upregulated in SlMYB75-OE fruits.Yeast one-hybrid and transactivation assays revealed that SlMYB75 is able to directly bind to the MYBPLANT and MYBPZM cis-regulatory elements and to activate the promoters of the LOXC,AADC2 and TPS genes.The identification of SlMYB75 as a key regulator of fruit quality attributes through the transcriptional regulation of downstream genes involved in several metabolic pathways opens new avenues towards engineering fruits with a higher sensory and nutritional quality.Wei Jian Haohao Cao Shu Yuan Yudong Liu Juanfang Lu Wang Lu Ning Li Jianhui Wang Jian Zou Ning Tang Chan Xu Yulin Cheng Yanqiang Gao Wanpeng Xi Mondher Bouzayen Zhengguo Li 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:39
5Identification of a Stable Quantitative Trait Locus for Percentage Grains with White Chalkiness in Rice (Oryza sativa)显示文摘High chalkiness is a major problem in many rice-producing areas of the world, especially in hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) in China. We previously showed a major quantitative trait locus for the percentage of grains with white chalkiness (QTLqPGWC-8) in the interval G1149-R727 on chromosome 8 using a chromosome segment substitution line (CSSL). Here, we selected the line-CSSL50 harboring the QTLqPGWC-8 allele from the CSSLs derived from a cross between Asominori (as a recurrent parent) and IR24 (as a donor parent), which had higher percentage chalkiness, markedly different from that of Asominori. There were also significant differences in starch granules, appearance of amylose content (AAC) and milling qualities between Asominori and CSSL50, but not in grain size or thousand grain weight (TGW). The BC4F2 and BC4F3 populations from a cross between CSSL50 and Asominori were used for fine mapping of qPGWC-8. We narrowed down the location of this QTL to a 142 kb region between Indel markers 8G-7 and 8G-9. QTLqPGWC-8 accounted for 50.9% of the difference in PGWC between the parents. 8Association between Ambient Air Pollution and Hospital Emergency Admissions for Respiratory and Cardiovascular Diseases in Beijing: a Time Series Study显示文摘Objective To investigate the association between ambient air pollution and hospital emergency admissions in Beijing. Methods In this study, a semi-parametric generalized additive model(GAM) was used to evaluate the specific influences of air pollutants(PM10, SO2, and NO2) on hospital emergency admissions with different lag structures from 2009 to 2011, the sex and age specific influences of air pollution and the modifying effect of seasons on air pollution to analyze the possible interaction. Results It was found that a 10 μg/m3 increase in concentration of PM10 at lag 03 day, SO2 and NO2 at lag 0 day were associated with an increase of 0.88%, 0.76%, and 1.82% respectively in overall emergency admissions. A 10 μg/m3 increase in concentration of PM10, SO2 and NO2 at lag 5 day were associated with an increase of 1.39%, 1.56%, and 1.18% respectively in cardiovascular disease emergency admissions. For lag 02, a 10 μg/m3 increase in concentration of PM10, SO2 and NO2 were associated with 1.72%, 1.34%, and 2.57% increases respectively in respiratory disease emergency admissions. 9Chinese stalagmite paleoclimate researches: A review and perspective显示文摘Stalagmite is one kind of secondary carbonates formed in limestone caves(speleothem). After cave water droplets containing Ca2+and HCO3 drip onto floor, carbonate in the water might become supersaturated due to CO2 degassing under certain conditions, resulting in the formation of stalagmite in a process year after year. Stalagmite is one of important geological archives for paleoclimate research. The advantages include wide spatial distribution, suitable for U-Th and U-Pb dating, enriched in climate proxies, continuity, long time span, comparability and lower sampling cost etc. These factors have propelled stalagmite paleoclimate research to the forefront of global paleoclimatology with an irreplaceable role. The stalagmite paleoclimate study started in the western countries, mainly in Europe and America in 1960 s–1970 s, while the relevant research in China was progressively developed in the 1980 s–1990 s after the Reform and Opening up. Although there was a huge gap between the overall research level in China and western countries, a solid research foundation, as well as a number of talent teams were established during the period. In the 21 st century, starting from the publication of stalagmite records from Hulu Cave in Nanjing in 2001, the stalagmite paleoclimate research in China has ushered in a flourishing development and a real leap on the basis of international cooperation, resulting in significant international impacts. The landmark achievements, including establishment of the world’s longest(640000 years) East Asian monsoon stalagmite record, as well as the longest Indian monsoon(280000 years),South American monsoon(250000 years), North American westerly climate(330000 years), Central Asian westerly climate(135000 years), and northwestern China westerly climate(500000 years), have laid a milestone in the paleoclimate study in these climate domains. Importantly, these stalagmite records have revealed the relationship of Asian monsoon variations with solar insolation climate change in polar regions, and the South American monsoon changes on orbital-suborbital timescales, which have provided new geological observations for the development of orbital-suborbital climate theory;elaborated coupling and differentiation relationships between the Asian monsoon and the westerly climate;reconstructed the history of Asian monsoon changes in the Holocene in detail, and thus the hydrological and climate variances behind Chinese and Indian civilizationcultural evolutions. Furthermore, a large number of high-resolution stalagmite records over the past 2000 years have been reconstructed, which are important for understanding short-term climate variability and magnitude, events, cycles, and thus the future climate projection. The achievements have also involved the improvements of a number of important techniques, such as U-Th dating method, the establishments of various hydroclimatic proxies, as well as the contributions to the reconstruction of the atmosphere14C variation history over the past ~54000 years. 11Application of next-generation sequencing technology to precision medicine in cancer: joint consensus of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology显示文摘Next-generation sequencing(NGS) technology is capable of sequencing millions or billions of DNA molecules simultaneously.Therefore, it represents a promising tool for the analysis of molecular targets for the initial diagnosis of disease, monitoring of disease progression, and identifying the mechanism of drug resistance. On behalf of the Tumor Biomarker Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology(CSCO) and the China Actionable Genome Consortium(CAGC), the present expert group hereby proposes advisory guidelines on clinical applications of NGS technology for the analysis of cancer driver genes for precision cancer therapy. This group comprises an assembly of laboratory cancer geneticists, clinical oncologists, bioinformaticians,pathologists, and other professionals. After multiple rounds of discussions and revisions, the expert group has reached a preliminary consensus on the need of NGS in clinical diagnosis, its regulation, and compliance standards in clinical sample collection. 17Giant submucosal lipoma located in the descending colon: A case report and review of the literature显示文摘Colonic lipoma is an uncommon tumor of the gastrointestinal tract.Most cases are asymptomatic,with a small tumor size,and do not need any special treatment.However,we encountered one patient with a giant submucosal lipoma,with a maximum diameter of 8.5 cm,which exhibited symptoms such as intermittent lower abdominal pain,changes in bowel habits with passage of fresh blood and mucus per rectum,abdominal distension,anorexia and weight loss.Unfortunately,the possibility of colonic malignancy could not be precluded and left hemicolectomy was planned.The exact diagnosis of this special case was accomplished by intraoperative pathology.In the end,local resection was performed instead of left hemicolectomy.To the best of our knowledge,colonic lipoma exceeding 8 cm in diameter has not been previously reported.We,therefore,present this case and discuss age and sex factors,clinical and histopathological findings,diagnostic methods and treatment by reviewing the available literature,to serve as a reminder that colonic lipoma can also exist in patients with significant symptoms.In addition,intraoperative pathology should be investigated in those doubtful cases,so as to guide the exact diagnosis and treatment plan.Li Jiang Li-Sheng Jiang Fu-Yu Li Hui Ye Ning Li Nan-Sheng Cheng Yong Zhou 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,42:11
18Puerarin ameliorated pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy in ovariectomized rats through activation of the PPARα/PGC-1 pathway显示文摘Estrogen deficiency induces cardiac dysfunction and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease in postmenopausal women and in those who underwent bilateral oophorectomy.Previous evidence suggests that puerarin,a phytoestrogen,exerts beneficial effects on cardiac function in patients with cardiac hypertrophy.In this study,we investigated whether puerarin could prevent cardiac hypertrophy and remodeling in ovariectomized,aortic-banded rats.Female SD rats subjected to bilateral ovariectomy(OVX)plus abdominal aortic constriction(AAC).The rats were treated with puerarin(50 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1),ip)for 8 weeks.Then echocardiography was assessed,and the rats were sacrificed,their heart tissues were extracted and allocated for further experiments.We showed that puerarin administration significantly attenuated cardiac hypertrophy and remodeling in AAC-treated OVX rats,which could be attributed to activation of PPARα/PPARγcoactivator-1(PGC-1)pathway.Puerarin administration significantly increased the expression of estrogen-related receptorα,nuclear respiratory factor 1,and mitochondrial transcription factor A in hearts.Moreover,puerarin administration regulated the expression of metabolic genes in AAC-treated OVX rats.Hypertrophic changes could be induced in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes(NRCM)in vitro by treatment with angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ,1μM),which was attenuated by co-treatemnt with puerarin(100μM).We further showed that puerarin decreased Ang Ⅱ-induced accumulation of non-esterified fatty acids(NEFAs)and deletion of ATP,attenuated the Ang II-induced dissipation of the mitochondrial membrane potential,and improved the mitochondrial dysfunction in NRCM.Furthermore,addition of PPARαantagonist GW6471(10μM)partially abolished the anti-hypertrophic effects and metabolic effects of puerarin in NRCM.In conclusion,puerarin prevents cardiac hypertrophy in AAC-treated OVX rats through activation of PPARα/PGC-1 pathway and regulation of energy metabolism remodeling.This may provide a new approach to prevent the development of heart failure in postmenopausal women.Ning Hou Yin Huang Shao-ai Cai Wen-chang Yuan Li-rong Li Xia-wen Liu Gan-jian Zhao Xiao-xia Qiu Ai-qun Li Chuan-fang Cheng Shi-ming Liu Xiao-hui Chen Dao-feng Cai Jing-xuan Xie Min-sheng Chen Cheng-feng Luo 2021Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,1:11

20The newly emerged SARS-Like coronavirus HCoV-EMC also has an “Achilles’ heel”: current effective inhibitor targeting a 3C-like protease显示文摘From the global outbreak of SARS-CoV caused infection disease in 2003,coronaviruses(CoVs)are known to be a great threat to the human health.Recently,a new SARS-like coronavirus,human betacoronavirus 2c EMC/2012(HCoV-EMC),has been identified and the appearance of this new CoV raises concerns that a new spread of CoV may occurs in the future.By solving the crystal structure of HCoV-EMC main protease with a wide-spectrum anti-CoV inhibitor N3,we confi rmed that that N3 blocks the function of HCoV-EMC main protease through a similar mechanism to other CoVs.Together with the good pharmaceutical features,N3 is conceivable to be effective to HCoV-EMC and other CoVs appearing in the future.These fi ndings make it convincing that CoVs will not be a threat to human health.Zhilin Ren Liming Yan Ning Zhang Yu Guo Cheng Yang Zhiyong Lou Zihe Rao 2013Protein & Cell2013,4,4:10
