1Artificial Neural Network Methods for the Solution of Second Order Boundary Value Problems显示文摘We present a method for solving partial differential equations using artificial neural networks and an adaptive collocation strategy.In this procedure,a coarse grid of training points is used at the initial training stages,while more points are added at later stages based on the value of the residual at a larger set of evaluation points.This method increases the robustness of the neural network approximation and can result in significant computational savings,particularly when the solution is non-smooth.Numerical results are presented for benchmark problems for scalar-valued PDEs,namely Poisson and Helmholtz equations,as well as for an inverse acoustics problem.Cosmin Anitescu Elena Atroshchenko Naif Alajlan Timon Rabczuk 2019Computers, Materials & Continua2019,,4:72
2Macleaya cordata extract alleviated oxidative stress and altered innate immune response in mice challenged with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli显示文摘This study examines the effects of dietary Macleaya cordata extract(MCE) on bacterial burden and resistance to enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC) in ICR mice. ICR mice were randomly distributed into one of the following groups:(i) basal diet;(ii)basal diet with 200 mg kg–1 MCE;(iii) basal diet challenged with ETEC;and(iv) basal diet with 200 mg kg–1 MCE and challenged with ETEC. Following a 7-day period of pre-treatment, CTRL-ETEC and MCE-ETEC mice were subjected to oral infection using 5×108 E. coli SEC 470. The results showed dietary 200 mg kg–1 MCE markedly reduced intestinal ETEC burden(P<0.05) and the disease-associated mortality was significantly alleviated in the MCE treated group(P<0.05). In addition,dietary MCE markedly alleviated ETEC-induced oxidative stress, evidenced by the lowered methane dicarboxylic aldehyde(MDA) abundance and enhanced activities of catalase and glutathione peroxidase(P<0.05). Furthermore, MCE mice exhibited higher immune activity, which might have further mediated ETEC infection. These results indicate MCE plays a preventative role with respect to ETEC infection. 4Computational Machine Learning Representation for the Flexoelectricity Effect in Truncated Pyramid Structures显示文摘In this study,machine learning representation is introduced to evaluate the flexoelectricity effect in truncated pyramid nanostructure under compression.A Non-Uniform Rational B-spline(NURBS)based IGA formulation is employed to model the flexoelectricity.We investigate 2D system with an isotropic linear elastic material under plane strain conditions discretized by 45×30 grid of B-spline elements.Six input parameters are selected to construct a deep neural network(DNN)model.They are the Young's modulus,two dielectric permittivity constants,the longitudinal and transversal flexoelectric coefficients and the order of the shape function.The outputs of interest are the strain in the stress direction and the electric potential due flexoelectricity.The dataset are generated from the forward analysis of the flexoelectric model.80%of the dataset is used for training purpose while the remaining is used for validation by checking the mean squared error.In addition to the input and output layers,the developed DNN model is composed of four hidden layers.The results showed high predictions capabilities of the proposed method with much lower computational time in comparison to the numerical model.Khader M.Hamdia Hamid Ghasemi Xiaoying Zhuang Naif Alajlan Timon Rabczuk 2019Computers, Materials & Continua2019,,4:5

7Outcomes of staged hepatectomies for liver malignancy显示文摘Liver malignancies are the fifth most common cause of death worldwide.Surgical intervention with curative intent is the treatment of choice for liver tumors as it provides long-term survival.However,only 20%of patients with metastatic liver lesions can be managed by curative liver resection.In most of the cases,hepatectomy is not feasible because of insufficient future liver remnant(FLR).Two-stage hepatectomy is advocated to achieve liver resection in a patient who is considered to not be a candidate for resection.Procedures of staged hepatectomy include conventional two-stage hepatectomy,portal vein embolization,and associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for a staged hepatectomy.Technical success is high for each of these procedures but variable between them.All the procedures have been reported as being effective in achieving a satisfactory FLR and completing the second-stage resection.Moreover,the overall survival and disease-free survival rates have improved significantly for patients who were otherwise considered nonresectable;yet,an increase in the morbidity and mortality rates has been observed.We suggest that this type of procedure should be carried out in high-flow centers and through a multidisciplinary approach.An experienced surgeon is key to the success of those interventions.Naif A Albati Ali A Korairi Ibrahim Al Hasan Helayel K Almodhaiberi Abdullah A Algarni 2019World Journal of Hepatology2019,11,6:2
