Acute effects of physical exercise in type 2 diabetes: A review显示文摘The literature has shown the efficiency of exercise in the control of type 2 diabetes(T2D), being suggested as one of the best kinds of non-pharmacological treatments for its population. Thus, the scientific production related to this phenomenon has growing exponentially. However, despite its advances, still there is a lack of studies that have carried out a review on the acute effects of physical exercise on metabolic and hemodynamic markers and possible control mechanisms of these indicators in individuals with T2 D, not to mention that in a related way, these themes have been very little studied today. Therefore, the aim of this study was to organize and analyze the current scientific production about the acute effects of physical exercise on metabolic and hemodynamic markers and possible control mechanisms of these indicators in T2 D individuals. For such, a research with the following keywords was performed:-exercise; diabetes and post-exercise hypotension; diabetes and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption; diabetes and acute effects in PUBMED, SCIELO and HIGHWIRE databases. From the analyzed studies, it is possible to conclude that, a single exercise session can promote an increase in the bioavailability of nitric oxide and elicit decreases in postexercise blood pressure. Furthermore, the metabolic stress from physical exercise can increase the oxidation of carbohydrate during the exercise and keep it, in high levels, the post exercise consumption of O2, this phenomenon increases the rate of fat oxidation during recovery periods after exercise, improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity and reduces glycemia between 2-72 h, which seems to be dependent on the exercise intensity and duration of the effort. | Ricardo Yukio Asano Marcelo Magalhes Sales Rodrigo Alberto Vieira Browne José Fernando Vila Nova Moraes Hélio José Coelho Júnior Milton Rocha Moraes Hebert Gustavo Simoes | 2014 | World Journal of Diabetes2014,5,5: | 8
Pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis and drugs used in associated digestive tract diseases显示文摘Cystic fibrosis(CF)causes chronic infections in the respiratory tract and alters the digestive tract. This paper reviews the most important aspects of drug treatment and changes in the digestive tract of patients with CF.This is a review of the literature, emphasizing the discoveries made within the last 15 years by analyzing scientific papers published in journals indexed in the Scientific Electronic Library Online,Sciences Information,United States National Library of Medicine and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online databases, both in English and Portuguese, using the key words:cystic fibrosis, medication, therapeutic, absorption, digestion.Randomized, observational, experimental, and epidemiological clinical studies were selected, among others, with statistical significance of 5%.This review evaluates the changes found in the digestive tract of CF patients including pancreatic insufficiency, constipation and liver diseases.Changes in nutritional status are also described.Clinical treatment, nutritional supplementation and drug management were classified in this review as essential to the quality of life of CF patients, and became available through public policies for monitoring and treating CF.The information gathered on CF and a multi professional approach to the disease is essential in the treatment of these patients. | Adriana Haack Giselle Gonalves Arago Maria Rita Carvalho Garbi Novaes | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,46: | 7
Colorectal cancer risk in hamartomatous polyposis syndromes显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality around the world, and approximately 5% of them develop in a context of inherited mutations leading to some form of familial colon cancer syndromes. Recognition and characterization of these patients have contributed to elucidate the genetic basis of CRC. Polyposis Syndromes may be categorized by the predominant histological structure found within the polyps. The aim of the present paper is to review the most important clinical features of the Hamartomatous Polyposis Syndromes, a rare group of genetic disorders formed by the peutz-Jeghers syndrome, juvenil polyposis syndrome and PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndrome(Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalacaba and Cowden Syndromes). A literature search was performed in order to retrieve the most recent and important papers(articles, reviews, clinical cases and clinical guidelines) regarding the studied subject. We searched for terms such as 'hamartomatous polyposis syndromes', 'Peutz-Jeghers syndrome', 'juvenile polyposis syndrome', 'juvenile polyp', and 'PTEN hamartoma tumour syndrome'(Cowden syndrome, Bananyan-Riley-Ruvalcaba). The present article reports the wide spectrum of disease severity and extraintestinal manifestations, with a special focus on their potential to develop colorectal and other neoplasia. In the literature, the reported colorectal cancer risk for Juvenile Polyposis, Peutz-Jeghers and PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndromes are 39%-68%, 39%-57% and 18%, respectively. A review regarding cancer surveillance recommendations is also presented. | Fábio Guilherme Campos Marleny Novaes Figueiredo Carlos Augusto Real Martinez | 2015 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2015,7,3: | 7
Comment on “Chen et al., Fabrication and photovoltaic conversion enhancement...”,Electrochimica Acta,2014显示文摘In a recent article, Chen et al. [Electrochimica Acta, 2014, 130: 279] presented their fabrication and characterization results on a graphene/n-Si solar cell where the Au nanoparticles were inserted in graphene to increase its optical and electrical properties. The higher efficiency of the device was attributed to increased conductivity of graphene after doping with Au nanoparticles. However, the knowledge in the field of Schottky diode solar cells relates this to increased band bending at the junction. Also, to explain the instability behaviour, they concluded that the growth of silicon oxide on the Si surface or oxygen adsorption on the window layer resulted in the device performance increasing initially and decreasing in the end. However, this instability seems to be due to variation in series resistance reduced at the beginning because of slightly lowered Fermi level and increased at the end by the self-compensation by deep in-diffusion of Au nanoparticles into n-Si layer. We also propose that inserting a very thin p-type layer at the junction will enhance the carrier collection and performance of this device. | Lara Valentic Nima E.Gorji Department of Environment Sciences,University of Nova Gorica Department of Physics,Brown University | 2015 | Journal of Semiconductors2015,36,9: | 6
Hepatic encephalopathy:Lessons from preclinical studies显示文摘Hepatic encephalopathy(HE) is a major complication that is closely related to the progression of end-stage liver disease.Metabolic changes in advanced liver failure can promote cognition impairment, attention deficits and motor dysfunction that may result in coma and death.HE can be subdivided according to the type of hepatic injury, namely, type A,which results from acute liver failure, type B,which is associated with a portosystemic shunting without intrinsic liver disease, and type C,which is due to chronic liver disease.Several studies have investigated the pathogenesis of the disease, and most of the mechanisms have been explored using animal models. This article aimed to review the use of preclinical models to investigate HE.The most used animal species are rats and mice.Experimental models of type A HE include surgical procedures and the administration of hepatotoxic medications, whereas models of types B and C HE are generally surgically induced lesions in liver tissue, which evolve to hepatic cirrhosis.Preclinical models have allowed the comprehension of the pathways related to HE. | Luiza Cioglia Dias Lima Aline Silva Miranda Rodrigo Novaes Ferreira Milene Alvarenga Rachid Ana Cristina Sim?es e Silva | 2019 | World Journal of Hepatology2019,11,2: | 4
Compatible taper and stem volume equations for Larix kaempferi(Japanese larch) species of South Korea显示文摘In this study, compatible taper and stem volume equations were developed for Larix kaempferi species of South Korea. The dataset was split into two groups: 80% of the data were used in model fitting and the remaining 20% were used for validation. The compatible MB76 equations were used to predict the diameter outside bark to a specific height, the height to a specific diameter and the stem volume of the species. The result of the stem volume analysis was compared with the existing stem volume model of Larix kaempferi species of South Korea which was developed by the Korea Forest Research Institute and with a simple volume model that was developed with fitting dataset in this study. The compatible model provided accurate prediction of the total stem volume when compared to the existing stem volume model and with a simple volume model. It is concluded that the compatible taper and stem volume equations are more convenient to use and therefore it is recommended to be applied in the Larix kaempferi species of South Korea. | Nova D.DOYOG Young Jin LEE Sun Joo LEE Jin Taek KANG Sung Yong KIM | 2017 | Journal of Mountain Science2017,14,7: | 4
Chronic myeloid leukemia-from the Philadelphia chromosome to specific target drugs:A literature review显示文摘Chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)is a myeloproliferative neoplasm and was the first neoplastic disease associated with a well-defined genotypic anomaly―the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome. The advances in cytogenetic and molecular assays are of great importance to the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and monitoring of CML.The discovery of the breakpoint cluster region(BCR)-Abelson murine leukemia(ABL)1 fusion oncogene has revolutionized the treatment of CML patients by allowing the development of targeted drugs that inhibit the tyrosine kinase activity of the BCR-ABL oncoprotein.Tyrosine kinase inhibitors(known as TKIs)are the standard therapy for CML and greatly increase the survival rates, despite adverse effects and the odds of residual disease after discontinuation of treatment. As therapeutic alternatives, the subsequent TKIs lead to faster and deeper molecular remissions;however, with the emergence of resistance to these drugs, immunotherapy appears as an alternative, which may have a cure potential in these patients.Against this background, this article aims at providing an overview on CML clinical management and a summary on the main targeted drugs available in that context. | Mariana Miranda Sampaio Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Hanna Santos Marques Vinícius Lima de Souza Gonçalves Glauber Rocha Lima Araújo Luana Weber Lopes Jonathan Santos Apolonio Camilo Santana Silva Luana Kauany de SáSantos Beatriz Rocha Cuzzuol Quézia Estéfani Silva Guimarães Mariana Novaes Santos Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Antônio França da Silva Márcio Vasconcelos Oliveira Cláudio Lima Souza Fabrício Freire de Melo | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2021,12,2: | 3
Ambient air quality and the risk for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease among Metro Manila Development Authority traffic enforcers in Metro Manila:An exploratory study显示文摘Background::Air pollution and poor ambient air quality are significantly related to multiple health risks. One associated disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),a preventable disease with several contributing factors and one of the leading causes of morbidity/mortality locally and globally.A potentially high-risk population are traffic enforcers who are constantly exposed to air pollution. In the Philippines, the MMDA has the widest coverage in traffic management. The study determined the risk of COPD among Metro Manila Development Authority(MMDA)traffic enforcers in relation to ambient air quality level,as well as identified other factors that increase the risk of developing COPD.Methods::Fifty-two MMDA traffic enforcers deployed in PM 2.5 air quality sensor areas in Metro Manila from 2016 to 2018 were recruited through stratified sampling. The International Primary Airways Guidelines(IPAG)questionnaire was utilized to measure risk of COPD.Respiratory health and working history were obtained through questionnaires.Department of environment and natural resources provided PM 2.5 ambient air quality data which aided in the construction of the Exposure-Month Index.Ordinal logistic regression was used to examine the association of PM 2.5 together with the relevant factors and the risk of COPD.Results::We found statistically significant associations between PM 2.5 and COPD among high risk category[odds risk(OR):1.24,95%confidence interval(CI):1.07-1.44].Age(Moderate,OR:1.16,95%CI:0.98-1.38 and High,OR:10.06,95%CI:4.02-25.17)and chest pain(Moderate,OR:68.65,95%CI:1.71-2.75×103)were potential risk factors, whereas body mass index(BMI)(OR:0.05,95%CI:0.01-0.53)exhibited protective effect.Conclusions::Exposure to PM 2.5 was associated with an increased risk of COPD among high-risk category MMDA traffic enforcers.Age and chest pain were potential risk factors to risk of COPD,whereas BMI exhibited a potential protective effect. Results of this study can be used for clinical management of high-risk populations, such that of MMDA traffic enforcers. | Xerxes Seposo Audrey Lynn A.Arcilla Jose Guillermo N.De Guzman III Enrico Miguel S.Dizon Andrea Nova R.Figuracion Christina Micaela M.Morales Pauleena Katriona A.Tugonon Geminn Louis C.Apostol | 2021 | Chronic Diseases and Translational Medicine2021,7,2: | 3
Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal dearterialization/transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization: Technical evolution and outcomes after 20 years显示文摘In the setting of Hemorrhoidal Disease treatment, the option of conventional hemorrhoidectomy is highly effective, but it is still associated with postoperative pain and discomfort. For this reason, technical alternatives have been developed in order to reduce complications and to provide better postoperative recovery. To accomplish this aim, non-excisional techniques such as stapled hemorrhoidectomy and Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal ligation have been introduced into clinical practice with high expectations. The aim of this article is to revise the literature about transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization technique in the treatment of hemorrhoidal disease, looking into its evolution, results and possible benefits over other modalities of surgical treatment. The literature review showed that Dopplerguided hemorrhoidal dearterialization is a safe and effective method to treat grades II to IV hemorrhoidal disease. Outcomes in patients presenting prolapse are satisfactory and the association of anopexy is an important aspect of this operation. Anal physiology disturbances are rarely observed and mainly transitory. This technique is an excellent option for every patient, especially in those with previous anal surgeries and in patients with previous alterations of fecal continence, when an additional procedure might represent a risk of definitive incontinence. | Marleny Novaes Figueiredo Fábio Guilherme Campos | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2016,8,3: | 3

Short-term outcomes after laparoscopic colorectal surgery in patients with previous abdominal surgery: A systematic review显示文摘AIM: To perform a systematic review focusing on shortterm outcomes after colorectal surgery in patients with previous abdominal open surgery(PAOS).METHODS: A broad literature search was performed with the terms 'colorectal', 'colectomy', 'PAOS', 'previous surgery' and 'PAOS'. Studies were included if their topic was laparoscopic colorectal surgery in patients with PAOS, whether descriptive or comparative. Endpoints of interest were conversion rates, inadvertent enterotomy and morbidity. Analysis of articles was made according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses.RESULTS: From a total of 394 citations, 13 full-texts achieved selection criteria to be included in the study. Twelve of them compared patients with and without PAOS. All studies were retrospective and comparative and two were case-matched. The selected studies comprised a total of 5005 patients, 1865 with PAOS. Among the later, only 294(16%) had history of a midline incision for previous gastrointestinal surgery. Conversion rates were significantly higher in 3 of 12 studies and inadvertent enterotomy during laparoscopywas more prevalent in 3 of 5 studies that disclosed this event. Morbidity was similar in the majority of studies. A quantitative analysis(meta-analysis) could not be performed due to heterogeneity of the studies. CONCLUSION: Conversion rates were slightly higher in PAOS groups, although not statistical significant in most studies. History of PAOS did not implicate in higher morbidity rates. | Marleny Novaes Figueiredo Fabio Guilherme Campos Luiz Augusto D'Albuquerque Sergio Carlos Nahas Ivan Cecconello Yves Panis | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2016,8,7: | 2
