| 1 | Reaction kinetics modeling for lithium and cobalt recovery from spent lithium-ion batteries using acetic acid显示文摘Lithium and cobalt recovery from spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) is a major focus because of their increased production and usage. The conventional method for recycling spent LIBs using inorganic acids produces harmful byproducts. In this work, the leaching agent was substituted with a less expensive and more environmentally friendly alternative—acetic acid—and a mathematical model was developed to describe the kinetics of the recovery process. The variables used were the pH value, temperature, H_2O_2 concentration, and the solid-to-liquid(S/L) ratio. The mathematical model used was the shrinking core model, which was modified to accommodate an equilibrium reaction. The experimental results show that the rate of recovery of Li and Co over time was only affected by temperature. The leaching behaviors of Li and Co were found to oppose each other. An increase in temperature resulted in increased recovery of Li but decreased recovery of Co because of the product-favoring endothermic reaction of Li and the reactant-favoring exothermic reaction of Co. The product of Li has a lower entropy value than the reactant as a free-moving ion, whereas the product of Co leaching has a higher entropy value as a stiff crystal complex. | 2 | Microstructure and texture evolution in AZ31 magnesium alloy during caliber rolling at different temperatures显示文摘Magnesium alloy AZ31 was caliber rolled at different temperatures viz.523K,573K,623K,673K and 723K imposing a total cumulative reduction of 92%and a cumulative strain of 2.6.The associated microstructure and texture evolution were studied using Electron Back Scattered Diffraction(EBSD)and X-ray macro-texture observations respectively.Grain refinement was observed in all the caliber rolled bars indicating the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization.Asymmetry parameter and texture index were used to study the evolution of texture.Near doubling of the yield strength at room temperature was observed by caliber rolling at a temperature of 573K.The improvement in mechanical properties was explained on the basis of the fine grain microstructures and suitable development of crystallographic texture.Based on the present study,warm caliber rolling can be used as a good production method for obtaining long bars of high strength magnesium alloy AZ31. | Abhishek Tripathi S.V.S.Narayana Murty P.Ramesh Narayanan | 2017 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2017,5,3: | 7 |

| 4 | Ozone Profile Retrieval from Satellite Observation Using High Spectral Resolution Infrared Sounding Instrument显示文摘This paper presents a preliminary result on the retrieval of atmospheric ozone profiles using an im- proved regression technique and utilizing the data from the Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder (AIRS), a hyper-spectral Instrument expected to be flown on the EOS-AQUA platform in 20D2. Simulated AIRS spectra were used to study the sensitivity of AIRS radiance on the tropospheric and stratospheric ozone changes, and to study the impact of various channel combinations on the ozone profile retrieval. Sensitivity study results indicate that the AIRS high resolution spectral channels between the wavenumber 650- 800 cm-1 provide very useful information to accurately retrieve tropospheric and stratospheric ozone pro- files Eigenvector decomposition of AIRS spectra indicate that no more than 100 eigenvectors are needed to retrieve very accurate ozone profiles. | 7 | Metallurgical analysis of a failed maraging steel shear screw used in the band separation system of a satellite launch vehicle显示文摘Maraging steels have excellent combination of strength and toughness and are extensively used for a variety of aerospace applications. In one such critical application, this steel was used to fabricate shear screws of a stage separation system in a satellite launch vehicle. During assembly preparations, one of the shear screws which connected the separation band and band end block has failed at the first thread. Microstructural analysis revealed that the crack originated from the root of the thread and propagated in an intergranular mode. | 9 | Effect of Diffuser Vane Shape on the Performance of a Centrifugal Compressor Stage显示文摘The present paper reports the results of experimental investigations on the effect of diffuser vane shape on the performance of a centrifugal compressor stage.These studies were conducted on the chosen stage having a backward curved impeller of 500 mm tip diameter and 24.5 mm width and its design flow coefficient is Фd=0.0535.Three different low solidity diffuser vane shapes namely uncambered aerofoil,constant thickness flat plate and circular arc cambered constant thickness plate were chosen as the variants for diffuser vane shape and all the three shapes have the same thickness to chord ratio(t/c=0.1).Flow coefficient,polytropic efficiency,total head coefficient,power coefficient and static pressure recovery coefficient were chosen as the parameters for evaluating the effect of diffuser vane shape on the stage performance.The results show that there is reasonable improvement in stage efficiency and total head coefficient with the use of the chosen diffuser vane shapes as compared to conventional vaneless diffuser.It is also noticed that the aero foil shaped LSD has shown better performance when compared to flat plate and circular arc profiles.The aerofoil vane shape of the diffuser blade is seen to be tolerant over a considerable range of incidence. | T Ch Siva Reddy GV Ramana Murty MVSSSM Prasad | 2014 | Journal of Thermal Science2014,23,2: | 4 |

| 12 | An improved analytical model of 4H-SiC MESFET incorporating bulk and interface trapping effects显示文摘An improved analytical model for the current–voltage(I–V) characteristics of the 4H-SiC metal semiconductor field effect transistor(MESFET) on a high purity semi-insulating(HPSI) substrate with trapping and thermal effects is presented. The 4H-SiC MESFET structure includes a stack of HPSI substrates and a uniformly doped channel layer. The trapping effects include both the effect of multiple deep-level traps in the substrate and surface traps between the gate to source/drain. The self-heating effects are also incorporated to obtain the accurate and realistic nature of the analytical model. The importance of the proposed model is emphasised through the inclusion of the recent and exact nature of the traps in the 4H-SiC HPSI substrate responsible for substrate compensation.The analytical model is used to exhibit DC I–V characteristics of the device with and without trapping and thermal effects. From the results, the current degradation is observed due to the surface and substrate trapping effects and the negative conductance introduced by the self-heating effect at a high drain voltage. The calculated results are compared with reported experimental and two-dimensional simulations(Silvacor-TCAD). The proposed model also illustrates the effectiveness of the gate–source distance scaling effect compared to the gate–drain scaling effect in optimizing 4H-SiC MESFET performance. | 14 | Thermally annealed gamma irradiated Ni/4H-SiC Schottky barrier diode characteristics显示文摘Thermal annealing effects on gamma irradiated Ni/4 H-SiC Schottky barrier diode(SBD) characteristics are analyzed over a wide range of temperatures(400–1100 °C). The annealing induced variations in the concentration of deep level traps in the SBDs are identified by thermally stimulated capacitance(TSCAP). A little decrease in the trap density at E_C – 0.63 eV and E_C –1.13 eV is observed up to the annealing temperature of 600 °C. Whereas, a gamma induced trap at E_C – 0.89 eV disappeared after annealing at 500 °C, revealing that its concentration(< 1013 cm-3) is reduced below the detection limit of the TSCAP technique.The electrical characteristics of irradiated SBDs are considerably changed at each annealing temperature. To understand the anomalous variations in the post-annealing characteristics, the interface state density distribution in the annealed SBDs is extracted.The electrical properties are improved at 400 °C due to the reduction in the interface trap density.
