Crop photosynthetic response to light quality and light intensity显示文摘Under natural conditions, plants constantly encounter various biotic and abiotic factors, which can potentially restrict plant growth and development and even limit crop productivity. Among various abiotic factors affecting plant photosynthesis, light serves as an important factor that drives carbon metabolism in plants and supports life on earth. The two components of light(light quality and light intensity) greatly affect plant photosynthesis and other plant's morphological, physiological and biochemical parameters. The response of plants to different spectral radiations and intensities differs in various species and also depends on growing conditions. To date, much research has been conducted regarding how different spectral radiations of varying intensity can affect plant growth and development. This review is an effort to briefly summarize the available information on the effects of light components on various plant parameters such as stem and leaf morphology and anatomy, stomatal development, photosynthetic apparatus, pigment composition, reactive oxygen species(ROS) production, antioxidants, and hormone production. | Iram SHAFIQ Sajad HUSSAIN Muhammad Ali RAZA Nasir IQBAL Muhammad Ahsan ASGHAR Ali RAZA FAN Yuan-fang Maryam MUMTAZ Muhammad SHOAIB Muhammad ANSAR Abdul MANAF YANG Wen-yu YANG Feng | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021,20,1: | 16
Airship aerodynamic model estimation using unscented Kalman filter显示文摘An airship model is made-up of aerostatic, aerodynamic, dynamic, and propulsive forces and torques.Besides others, the computation of aerodynamic forces and torques is difficult.Usually, wind tunnel experimentation and potential flow theory are used for their calculations. However, the limitations of these methods pose difficulties in their accurate calculation. In this work,an online estimation scheme based on unscented Kalman filter(UKF)is proposed for their calculation. The proposed method introduces six auxiliary states for the complete aerodynamic model.UKF uses an extended model and provides an estimate of a complete state vector along with auxiliary states. The proposed method uses the minimum auxiliary state variables for the approximation of the complete aerodynamic model that makes it computationally less intensive.UKF estimation performance is evaluated by developing a nonlinear simulation environment for University of Engineering and Technology,Taxila(UETT)airship.Estimator performance is validated by performing the error analysis based on estimation error and 2-σ uncertainty bound. For the same problem, the extended Kalman filter(EKF)is also implemented and its results are compared with UKF.The simulation results show that UKF successfully estimates the forces and torques due to the aerodynamic model with small estimation error and the comparative analysis with EKF shows that UKF improves the estimation results and also it is more suitable for the under-consideration problem. | WASIM Muhammad ALI Ahsan | 2020 | Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2020,31,6: | 9
Improved mechanical proprieties of“magnesium based composites”with titaniume-aluminum hybrids显示文摘In this study, the effect of micron-sized titanium and aluminum addition on the microstructural, mechanical and work-hardening behavior of pure Mg is investigated.Pure Mg reinforced with 10%Ti and 10%Ti-1%Al particulates were synthesized through semi-powder metallurgy route followed by hot extrusion.Semi-powder metallurgy appears to be promising approach for the synthesis of Mg based composite,as it is free of ball milling.Tensile results indicate that the direct addition of micron-sized 10wt.%titanium particulates to pure Mg,caused an improvement in elastic modulus,0.2%yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and failure strain(+72%;+41%;+29%;and+79%respectively).The addition of micron-sized 10wt.%titanium particles along with 1.0wt.%Al particles to pure Mg,resulted in an enhancement in elastic modulus,0.2%yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and failure strain(+74%;+56%;+45%;and+241%respectively).Besides tensile test,Vickers hardness and work-hardening behavior of prepared composites were also examined.Impressive failure strain of Mg-10Ti-1Al composite can be attributed to the better compatibility of Ti particulates with Mg due to presence of alloying element Al. | Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Muhammad Asif Jia She Ahsan Ullah | 2015 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2015,3,1: | 4

Diagnostic value of serum human epididymis protein 4 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND Numerous studies have demonstrated that human epididymis protein 4(HE4)is overexpressed in various malignant tissues including ovarian, endometrial, lung, breast, pancreatic, and gastric cancers. However,no study has examined the diagnostic impact of HE4 in patient with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)until now.AIM To analyze the value of four serum tumor markers for the diagnosis of ESCC,and examine the associations of serum levels of HE4 with ESCC patients’clinicopathological characteristics.METHODS The case group consisted of 80 ESCC patients, which were compared to a control group of 56 patients with benign esophageal disease.Serum levels of HE4,carcinoma embryonic antigen(CEA),alpha fetal protein, and carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA19-9)were detected by ELISA.The associations of serum HE4 levels with ESCC patients’clinicopathological characteristics such as gender, tumor location, and pathological stage were also examined after operation.RESULTS The result of ELISA showed that serum HE4 level was significantly higher in the patients with ESCC than in the controls, and the staining intensity was inversely correlated with the pathological T and N stages.Serum HE4 levels had a sensitivity of 66.2%and specificity of 78.6%when the cutoff value was set at 3.9 ng/mL.Moreover,the combined HE4 and CA19-9 increased the sensitivity to 83.33%,and interestingly, the combination of HE4 with CEA led to the most powerful sensitivity of 87.5%.Furthermore,A positive correlation was observed between HE4 serum levels and pathological T and N stages(P=0.0002 and 0.0017,respectively),but there was no correlation between HE4 serum levels and ESCC patient gender(P=0.4395)or tumor location(P=0.6777).CONCLUSION The results of this study suggest that detection of serum HE4 levels may be useful in auxiliary diagnosis and evaluation of the progression of ESCC. | Shi-Yuan Liu Muhammad Ahsan Bilal Jian-Hong Zhu Shao-Min Li | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2020,12,10: | 3
Interactive effect of shade and PEG-induced osmotic stress on physiological responses of soybean seedlings显示文摘Intensively farmed crops used to experience numerous environmental stresses.Among these, shade and drought significantly influence the morpho-physiological and biochemical attributes of plants. However, the interactive effect of shade and drought on the growth and development of soybean under dense cropping systems has not been reported yet. This study investigated the interactive effect of PEG-induced osmotic stress and shade on soybean seedlings. The soybean cultivar viz.,C-103 was subjected to PEG-induced osmotic stress from polyethylene glycol 6000(PEG-6000)under shading and non-shading conditions.PEG-induced osmotic stress significantly reduced the relative water contents, morphological parameters, carbohydrates and chlorophyll contents under both light environments.A significant increase was observed in osmoprotectants, reactive oxygen species and antioxidant enzymes in soybean seedlings.Henceforth, the findings revealed that, seedlings grown under non-shading conditions produced more malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide contents as compared to the shade-treated plants when subjected to PEG-induced osmotic stress.Likewise, the shaded plants accumulated more sugars and proline than non-shaded ones under drought stress. Moreover,it was found that nonshaded grown plants were more sensitive to PEG-induced osmotic stress than those exposed to shading conditions, which suggested that shade could boost the protective mechanisms against osmotic stress or at least would not exaggerate the adverse effects of PEG-induced osmotic stress in soybean seedlings. | Muhammad Ahsan ASGHAR JIANG Heng-ke SHUI Zhao-wei CAO Xi-yu HUANG Xi-yu Shakeel IMRAN Bushra AHMAD ZHANG Hao YANG Yue-ning SHANG Jing YANG Hui YU Liang LIU Chun-yan YANG Wen-yu SUN Xin DU Jun-bo | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021,20,9: | 3
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography guided interventions in the management of pancreatic cancer显示文摘Pancreatic cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality with an overall five-year survival of less than 9%in the United States. At presentation, the majority of patients have painless jaundice, pruritis, and malaise,a triad that develops secondary to obstruction, which often occurs late in the course of the disease process. The technical advancements in radiological imaging and endoscopic interventions have played a crucial role in the diagnosis, staging, and management of patients with pancreatic cancer.Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)-guided diagnosis(with brush cytology, serial pancreatic juice aspiration cytologic examination technique,or biliary biopsy)and therapeutic interventions such as pancreatobiliary decompression, intraductal and relief of gastric outlet obstruction play a pivotal role in the management of advanced pancreatic cancer and are increasingly used due to improved morbidity and complication rates compared to surgical management. In this review,we highlight various ERCP-guided diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for the management of pancreatic cancer. | Muhammad Nadeem Yousaf Hamid Ehsan Ahsan Wahab Ahmad Muneeb Fizah S Chaudhary Richard Williams Christopher J Haas | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2020,12,10: | 3
Multi-objective design optimization of composite submerged cylindrical pressure hull for minimum buoyancy and maximum buckling load capacity显示文摘This paper presents the design optimization of composite submersible cylindrical pressure hull subjected to 3 MPa hydrostatic pressure. The design optimization study is conducted for cross-ply layups[0_(s)/90_(t)/0_(u)],[0_(s)/90_(t)/0_(u)]s,[0_(s)/90_(t)]s and[90_(s)/0_(t)]s considering three uni-directional composites,i.e.Carbon/Epoxy,Glass/Epoxy,and Boron/Epoxy.The optimization study is performed by coupling a Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm(MOGA)and Analytical Analysis.Minimizing the buoyancy factor and maximizing the buckling load factor are considered as the objectives of the optimization study. The objectives of the optimization are achieved under constraints on the Tsai-Wu,Tsai-Hill and Maximum Stress composite failure criteria and on buckling load factor. To verify the optimization approach, optimization of one particular layup configuration is also conducted in ANSYS with the same objectives and constraints. | Muhammad Imran Dong-yan Shi Li-li Tong Ahsan Elahi Hafiz Muhammad Waqas Muqeem Uddin | 2021 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,4: | 2
Ordering and disordering of in situ grown MgAl-layered double hydroxide and its effect on the structural and corrosion resistance properties显示文摘A MgAl-layered double hydroxide(MgAl-LDH)protective film was developed on AA6082 substrates via the in situ hydrothermal growth method to obtain a distinct cauliflower-like LDH structure, and coated substrates were further heat-treated in air at temperatures from 100 to 250℃ to further improve the corrosion resistance of MgAl-LDH by taking advantage of the LDH memory effect;also, the effect of calcination on MgAl-LDH structural stability and the corresponding corrosion resistance properties were investigated. The structural characterization of uncalcined and calcined LDH films were examined using scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The corresponding corrosion protection efficiency of the developed coating was studied through potentiodynamic polarization experiments and by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.Compared with uncalcined MgAl-LDH,the calcined film showed a relatively lower corrosion current density and a higher impedance value, especially after heat treatment at 250℃.The findings demonstrate that calcination strongly affects the oriented growth of the LDH and causes an increase in the surface area and contraction of the basal spacing, which in turn caused a compact structure that substantially influenced the LDH corrosion resistance properties. | Muhammad Ahsan Iqbal Michele Fedel | 2019 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2019,26,12: | 2
Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) Modeling of Heat Transfer in a Polymeric Membrane using Finite Volume Method显示文摘The efficiency, robustness and reliability of recent numerical methods for finding solutions to flow problems have given rise to the implementation of computational fluid dynamics(CFD) as a broadly used analysis method for engineering problems like membrane separation system. The CFD modeling in this study observes steady and unsteady(transient) heat flux and temperature profiles in a polymeric(cellulose acetate) membrane. This study is novel due to the implementation of user defined scalar(UDS) diffusion equation by using user-defined functions(UDFs) infinite volume method(FVM).Some details of the FVM used by the solver are carefully discussed when implementing terms in the governing equation and boundary conditions(BC).The contours of temperature due to high-temperature gradient are reported for steady and unsteady problems. | Muhammad Ahsan Arshad Hussain | 2016 | Journal of Thermal Science2016,25,6: | 2

Unfolding the structural features of NASICON materials for sodium-ion full cells显示文摘Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)are potential candidates for the replacement of lithium-ion batteries to meet the increasing demands of electrical storage systems due to the low cost and high abundance of sodium.Sodium superionic conductor(NASICON)structured materials have attracted enormous interest in recent years as electrode materials for safer and long-term performance of SIBs for electric energy storage smart grids. These materials have a threedimensional robust framework, high redox potential, thermal stability, and a fast Na^(+)-ion diffusion mechanism. However,NASICON has low intrinsic electronic conductivity, which limits the electrochemical performance. This review describes the structural features of NASICONs to illustrate the ion storage mechanism and electrochemical performance of SIBs.Details of the NASICON crystal structure, the affiliated Na^(+)-ion diffusion mechanism, morphology, and electrochemical performance of these materials in sodiumion half-cells as well as full cells are described. In addition to the application as electrode materials, the use of NASICONs as solid electrolytes is also elaborated in solid-state SIBs.Based on these aspects,we have provided more perspectives in terms of the commercialization of SIBs and strategies to overcome the limitations of NASICONs.Hence, this review is expected to provide the researchers of energy storage with an in-depth understanding of NASICON materials with the knowledge of structural features, which will provide a new avenue on the practicality of SIBs. | Muhammad Tayyab Ahsan Zeeshan Ali Muhammad Usman Yanglong Hou | 2022 | Carbon Energy2022,4,5: | 1

Countrywide Survey for MERS-Coronavirus Antibodies in Dromedaries and Humans in Pakistan显示文摘Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is a zoonotic pathogen capable of causing severe respiratory disease in humans. Although dromedary camels are considered as a major reservoir host, the MERS-CoV infection dynamics in camels are not fully understood. Through surveillance in Pakistan, nasal (n = 776) and serum (n = 1050)samples were collected from camels between November 2015 and February 2018. Samples were collected from animal markets, free-roaming herds and abattoirs. An in-house ELISA was developed to detect IgG against MERS-CoV. A total of 794 camels were found seropositive for MERS-CoV. Prevalence increased with the age and the highest seroprevalence was recorded in camels aged [ 10 years (81.37%) followed by those aged 3.1–10 years (78.65%) and B 3 years (58.19%).Higher prevalence was observed in female (78.13%) as compared to male (70.70%). Of the camel nasal swabs, 22 were found to be positive by RT-qPCR though with high Ct values. Moreover, 2,409 human serum samples were also collected from four provinces of Pakistan during 2016–2017. Among the sampled population, 840 humans were camel herders.Although we found a high rate of MERS-CoV antibody positive dromedaries (75.62%) in Pakistan, no neutralizing antibodies were detected in humans with and without contact to camels. | Ali Zohaib Muhammad Saqib Muhammad Ammar Athar Jing Chen Awais-ur-Rahman Sial Saeed Khan Zeeshan Taj Halima Sadia Usman Tahir Muhammad Haleem Tayyab Muhammad Asif Qureshi Muhammad Khalid Mansoor Muhammad Ahsan Naeem Bing-Jie Hu Bilal Ahmed Khan Ikram Din Ujjan Bei Li Wei Zhang Yun Luo Yan Zhu Cecilia Waruhiu Iahtasham Khan Xing-Lou Yang Muhammad Sohail Sajid Victor Max Corman Bing Yan Zheng-Li Shi | 2018 | Virologica Sinica2018,33,5: | 1

Study on the synthesis of spin labeled poly(styrene-co-maleic acid)s and their segmental motion显示文摘Study of the segmental mobility of polymer chains is important when the polymer is used as drag reduction agents of crude oil.Electron spin resonance(ESR)spectroscopy can provide important information about segmental dynamics of polymer chains, which is related to their microenvironment. In this article,we employed an amphiphilic polymer to study the effect of hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance of the polymers on the segmental motion of polymer chains.Poly(styrene-co-maleic acid)(PSMA)was spin labeled with 4-amino TEMPO radicals by increasing the concentration of radical moiety on the polymer chains. The PSMA and spin labeled-PSMAs(SL-PSMAs)were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)spectroscopy,Cyclic voltammetry(CV)and ESR techniques.Inter-polymer complexes(IPCs)of SL-PSMA-2 were prepared by employing polyethylene glycols(PEGs)of varying molecular weights. The results showed that the increased hydrophobic interactions of nitroxide radicals on the SLPSMAs’chains reduced the rotational mobility of spin labels and the random coil-toglobular transition of polymer chains occurred at higher pH value for SL-PSMAs,which showed a slow motion component in the ESR spectra of SL-PSMAs.Further,by increasing the molecular weight of PEGs in IPCs the complexation was increased, which also reduced the rotational motion of spin labels due to interpolymer hydrogen bonding causing a slow motion component in the ESR spectra.©2021 The Authors. | Kaleem-Ur-Rahman Naveed Li Wang Haojie Yu Qian Zhang Wei Xiong Raja Summe Ullah Ahsan Nazir Muhammad Usman Shah Fahad Amin Khan Md Alim Uddin Di Shen | 2022 | Magnetic Resonance Letters2022,2,2: | 1
