On the treatment of solid boundary in smoothed particle hydrodynamics显示文摘As a popular meshfree particle method, the smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) has suffered from not being able to di-rectly implement the solid boundary conditions. This influences the SPH approximation accuracy and hinders its further de-velopment and application to engineering and scientific problems. In this paper,a coupled dynamic solid boundary treatment(SBT) algorithm has been proposed, after investigating the features of existing SPH SBT algorithms. The novelty of the cou-pled dynamic SBT algorithm includes a new repulsive force between approaching fluid and solid particles, and a new numeri-cal approximation scheme for estimating field functions of virtual solid particles. The new SBT algorithm has been examined with three numerical examples including a typical dam-break flow,a dam-break flow with a sharp-edged obstacle, and a water entry problem. It is demonstrated that SPH with this coupled dynamic boundary algorithm can lead to accurate results with smooth pressure field, and that the new SBT algorithm is also suitable for complex and even moving solid boundaries. | LIU MouBin SHAO JiaRu CHANG JianZhong | 2012 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,1: | 29
Smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) for modeling fluid-structure interactions显示文摘Fluid-structure interaction(FSI) is a class of mechanics-related problems with mutual dependence between the fluid and structure parts and it is observable nearly everywhere, in natural phenomena to many engineering systems. The primary challenges in developing numerical models with conventional grid-based methods are the inherent nonlinearity and timedependent nature of FSI, together with possible large deformations and moving interfaces. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) method is a truly Lagrangian and meshfree particle method that conveniently treats large deformations and naturally captures rapidly moving interfaces and free surfaces. Since its invention, the SPH method has been widely applied to study different problems in engineering and sciences, including FSI problems. This article presents a review of the recent developments in SPH based modeling techniques for solving FSI-related problems. The basic concepts of SPH along with conventional and higher order particle approximation schemes are first introduced. Then, the implementation of FSI in a pure SPH framework and the hybrid approaches of SPH with other grid-based or particle-based methods are discussed. The SPH models of FSI problems with rigid, elastic and flexible structures, with granular materials, and with extremely intensive loadings are demonstrated. Some discussions on several key techniques in SPH including the balance of accuracy, stability and efficiency, the treatment of material interface, the coupling of SPH with other methods, and the particle regularization and adaptive particle resolution are provided as concluding marks. | Moubin Liu Zhilang Zhang | 2019 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2019,62,8: | 19
Numerical modeling of oil spill containment by boom using SPH显示文摘The ocean environment is protected from oil pollution usually by using floating booms, which involves water-oil two-phase flow and strong fluid-structure interaction. In this paper,a modified multi-phase smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) method is proposed to model oil spill containment by using a moving boom.Four major influencing factors including oil type, moving velocity and skirt angle of the boom, and water wave are investigated. The SPH simulation results demonstrate different typical boom failure modes found in laboratory experiments. It is shown that the ability of a boom in containing oil is not only affected by its own characteristics, but also closely related to external environmental factors. It is found that boom failure is more likely to happen for heavy oil, high boom velocity, negative skirt angle,and/or in the presence of water waves. | YANG XiuFeng LIU MouBin | 2013 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2013,56,2: | 6
Squalene epoxidase promotes colorectal cancer cell proliferation through accumulating calcitriol and activating CYP24A1-mediatedMAPK signaling显示文摘Background:Colorectal cancer(CRC)is one of the most malignant tumorswith high incidence, yet its molecular mechanism is not fully understood, hindering the development of targeted therapy.Metabolic abnormalities are a hallmark of cancer.Targeting dysregulated metabolic features has become an important direction for modern anticancer therapy. In this study,we aimed to identify a new metabolic enzyme that promotes proliferation of CRC and to examine the related molecular mechanisms. Methods:We performed RNA sequencing and tissue microarray analyses of human CRC samples to identify new genes involved in CRC.Squalene epoxidase(SQLE)was identified to be highly upregulated in CRC patients. The regulatory function of SQLE in CRC progression and the therapeutic effect of SQLE inhibitors were determined by measuring CRC cell viability, colony and organoid formation, intracellular cholesterol concentration and xenograft tumor growth.Themolecularmechanism of SQLE functionwas explored by combining transcriptome and untargeted metabolomics analysis.Western blotting and realtime PCR were used to assess MAPK signaling activation by SQLE.Results:SQLE-related control of cholesterol biosynthesis was highly upregulated in CRC patients and associated with poor prognosis.SQLE promoted CRC growth in vitro and in vivo.Inhibition of SQLE reduced the levels of calcitriol(active form of vitamin D3)and CYP24A1,followed by an increase in intracellular Ca2+concentration.Subsequently,MAPK signaling was suppressed, resulting in the inhibition of CRC cell growth.Consistently, terbinafine,an SQLE inhibitor, suppressed CRC cell proliferation and organoid and xenograft tumor growth. Conclusions:Our findings demonstrate that SQLE promotes CRC through the accumulation of calcitriol and stimulation of CYP24A1-mediated MAPK signaling, highlighting SQLE as a potential therapeutic target for CRC treatment. | Luwei He Huaguang Li Chenyu Pan Yutong Hua Jiayin Peng Zhaocai Zhou Yun Zhao Moubin Lin | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,8: | 4
Multi-resolution technique integrated with smoothed particle element method (SPEM) for modeling fluid-structure interaction problems with free surfaces显示文摘Free-surface flows, especially those associated with fluid-structure interactions(FSIs), pose challenging problems in numerical simulations. The authors of this work recently developed a smoothed particle element method(SPEM) to simulate FSIs. In this method, both the fluid and solid regions are initially modeled using a smoothed finite element method(S-FEM) in a Lagrangian frame, whereas the fluid regions undergoing large deformations are adaptively converted into particles and modeled with an improved smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) method. This approach greatly improves computational accuracy and efficiency because of the advantages of the S-FEM in efficiently treating solid/fluid regions showing small deformations and the SPH method in effectively modeling moving interfaces. In this work, we further enhance the efficiency of the SPEM while effectively capturing local fluid information by introducing a multi-resolution technique to the SPEM and developing an effective approach to treat multi-resolution element-particle interfaces. Various numerical examples demonstrate that the multiresolution SPEM can significantly reduce the computational cost relative to the original version with a constant resolution. Moreover, the novel approach is effective in modeling various incompressible flow problems involving FSIs. | Ting Long Zhilang Zhang Moubin Liu | 2021 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2021,64,8: | 2
Formation of defects in selective laser melted Inconel 718 and its correlation with mechanical properties through dimensionless numbers显示文摘This paper presents a profound study on the formation of three typical types of defects(i.e.,lack of fusion, keyholes, and gas pores)observed in selective laser melting(SLM)printed Inconel 718 samples, along with their correlations with mechanical properties of the samples.Computed tomography, scanning electron microscopy, and mechanical property tests revealed that the three types of defects fall into three stages of porosity evolution classified by recently-proposed dimensionless numbersηm(melting efficiency)andηv(vaporization efficiency).Meanwhile, experimental tests verified that the mechanical properties of products, such as strength and elongation, are remarkably sensitive to lack of fusion. However, these properties are slightly affected by the keyholes and gas pores. An optimal process window characterized by dimensionless numbers is realized by adjusting the processing parameters and employing different powders. This process window allows products to have relatively low defects and high mechanical performances.A quantitative relation between processing parameters, dimensionless numbers, defects, and mechanical properties is established based on these observations. This relation, along with the optimal process window,is believed to enhance the quality of SLM products of Inconel 718 alloy and can be further extended to SLM with other metal materials. | Zhiwei Luo Zekun Wang Zhenyu Yan Jing Chen Shuguang Li Moubin Liu | 2022 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2022,65,5: | 2

Dissipative particle dynamics simulation of flow through periodic arrays of circular micropillar显示文摘Flow through arrays of micropillar embedded inside microfluidic chip systems is important for various microfluidic devices. It is critical to accurately predict the mass flow rate through pillar arrays based on the pillar design. This work presents a dissipative particle dynamics(DPD) model to simulate a problem of flow across periodic arrays of circular micropillar and investigates the permeability of two types of micropillar arrays. The flow fields including horizontal and vertical velocity fields, the number density field, and the streamline of the flow are analyzed. The predicted solid volumes by the presented DPD simulation of both types of arrays are quite close to the actual counterparts. These quantitative agreements show usefulness and effectiveness of the DPD model in simulating arrays of micropillar. By comparing two types of micropillar arrangement patterns, we find that the arrangement pattern of micropillar does not have significant influence on the permeability of the array. | Luwen ZHOU Yuqian ZHANG Xiaolong DENG Moubin LIU | 2016 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2016,37,11: | 1

A YAP/TAZ-CD54 axis is required for CXCR2-CD44-tumor-specific neutrophils to suppress gastric cancer显示文摘As an important part of tumor microenvironment, neutrophils are poorly understood due to their spatiotemporal heterogeneity in tumorigenesis. Here we defined,at single-cell resolution,CD44-CxCR2-neutrophils as tumor-specific neutrophils(tsNeus)in both mouse and human gastric cancer(GC).We uncovered a Hippo regulon in neutrophils with unique YAP signature genes(e.g.,ICAM1,CD14,EGR1)distinct from those identified in epithelial and/or cancer cells.Importantly, knockout of YAP/TAz in neutrophils impaired their differentiation into CD54+tsNeus and reduced their antitumor activity, leading to accelerated GC progression. Moreover, the relative amounts of CD54+tsNeus were found to be negatively associated with GC progression and positively associated with patient survival.Interestingly,GC patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy had increased numbers of CD54+tsNeus.Furthermore,pharmacologically enhancing YAP activity selectively activated neutrophils to suppress refractory GC,with no significant inflammation-related side effects. Thus, our work characterized tumor-specific neutrophils in GC and revealed an essential role of YAP/TAZ-CD54 axis in tsNeus, opening a new possibility to develop neutrophil-based antitumor therapeutics. | Pingping Nie Weihong Zhang Yan Meng Moubin Lin Fenghua Guo Hui Zhang Zhenzhu Tong Meng Wang Fan Chen Liwei An Yang Tang Yi Han Ruixian Yu Wenjia Wang Yuanzhi Xu Linxin Wei Zhaocai Zhou Shi Jiao | 2023 | Protein & Cell2023,14,7: | 0
A new membrane anatomy-oriented classification of radical surgery for rectal cancer显示文摘For patients with different clinical stages of rectal cancer, tailored surgery is urgently needed.Over the past 10 years, our team has conducted numerous anatomical studies and proposed the“four fasciae and three spaces”theory to guide rectal cancer surgery.Enlightened by the anatomical basis of the radical hysterectomy classification system of Querleu and Morrow,we proposed a new classification system of radical surgery for rectal cancer based on membrane anatomy. This system categorizes the surgery into four types(A–D)and incorporates corresponding subtypes based on the preservation of the autonomic nerve. Our surgical classification unifies the pelvic membrane anatomical terminology, validates the feasibility of classifying rectal cancer surgery using the theory of“four fasciae and three spaces,”and lays the theoretical groundwork for the future development of unified and standardized classification of radical pelvic tumor surgery. | Jiaqi Wang Hailong Liu Ajian Li Huihong Jiang Yun Pan Xin Chen Lu Yin Moubin Lin | 2023 | Gastroenterology Report2023,11,1: | 0
3D large-scale SPH modeling of vehicle wading with GPU acceleration显示文摘Vehicle wading is a complex fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problem and has attracted great attention recently from the automotive industry, especially for electric vehicles. As a meshless Lagrangian particle method, smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) is one of the most suitable candidates for simulations of vehicle wading due to its inherent advantages in modeling free surface flows, splash, and moving interfaces. Nevertheless, the inevitable neighbor query for the nearest adjacent particles among the support domain leads to considerable computational cost and thus limits its application in 3D large-scale simulations. In this work, a GPU-based SPH method is developed with an adaptive spatial sort technology for simulations of vehicle wading. In addition, a fast, easy-to-implement particle generator is presented for isotropic initialization of the complex vehicle geometry with optimal interpolation properties. A comparative study of vehicle wading on a puddle between the GPUbased SPH with two pieces of commercial software is used to verify the capability of the GPU-based SPH method in terms of convergence analysis, kinematic characteristics, and computing performance. Finally, different conditions of vehicle speeds, water depths, and puddle widths are tested to investigate the vehicle wading numerically. The results demonstrate that the adaptive spatial sort technology can significantly improve the computing performance of the GPU-based SPH method and meanwhile promotes the GPU-based SPH method to be a competitive tool for the study of 3D large-scale FSI problems including vehicle wading. Some helpful findings of the critical vehicle speed, water depth as well as boundary wall effect are also reported in this work. | Huashan Zhang Xiaoxiao Li Kewei Feng Moubin Liu | 2023 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2023,66,10: | 0
