1Survey and technological analysis of laser and its defense applications显示文摘The laser technology has made remarkable progress over the past couple of decades.It is being widely employed in diverse domains,such as holography,space sciences,spectroscopy,medical sciences,micro and power electronics,industrial engineering,and most distinctively,as directed energy military weapons.Owing to their active transmissions,laser systems are similar to microwave radars to some extent;however,unlike conventional radars,the laser operates at very high frequencies thus making it a potent enabler of narrow-beam and high energy aerial deployments,both in offensive and defensive roles.In modern avionics systems,laser target indicators and beam riders are the most common devices that are used to direct the Laser Guided Weapons(LGW)accurately to the ground targets.Additionally,compact size and outstanding angular resolution of laser-based systems motivate their use for drones and unmanned aerial applications.Moreover,the narrow-beam divergence of laser emissions offers a low probability of intercept,making it a suitable contender for secure transmissions and safety-critical operations.Furthermore,the developments in space sciences and laser technology have given synergistic potential outcomes to use laser systems in space operations.This paper comprehensively reviews laser applications and projects for strategic defense actions on the ground or in space.Additionally,a detailed analysis has been done on recent advancements of the laser technology for target indicators and range-finders.It also reviews the advancements in the field of laser communications for surveillance,its earlier state of the art,and ongoing scientific research and advancements in the domain of high energy directed laser weapons that have revolutionized the evolving military battlefield.Besides offering a comprehensive taxonomy,the paper also critically analyzes some of the recent contributions in the associated domains.Syed Affan Ahmed Mujahid Mohsin Syed Muhammad Zubair Ali 2021Defence Technology(防务技术)2021,17,2:10

3Laboratory scale studies on removal of chromium from industrial wastes显示文摘Chromium being one of the major toxic pollutants is discharged from electroplating and chrome tanning processes and is also found in the effluents of dyes, paint pigments, manufacturing units etc. Chromium exists in aqueous systems in both trivalent (Cr 3+) and hexavalent (Cr 6+) forms. The hexavalent form is carcinogenic and toxic to aquatic life, whereas Cr 3+ is however comparatively less toxic. This study was undertaken to investigate the total chromium removal from industrial effluents by chemical means in order to achieve the Pakistan NEQS level of 1 mg/L by the methods of reduction and precipitation. The study was conducted in four phases. In phase Ⅰ, the optimum pH and cost effective reducing agent among the four popular commercial chemicals was selected. As a result, pH of 2 was found to be most suitable and sodium meta bisulfate was found to be the most cost effective reducing agent respectively. Phase Ⅱ showed that lower dose of sodium meta bisulfate was sufficient to obtain 100 % efficiency in reducing Cr 6+ to Cr 3+, and it was noted that reaction time had no significance in the whole process. A design curve for reduction process was established which can act as a tool for treatment of industrial effluents. Phase Ⅲ studies indicated the best pH was 8.5 for precipitation of Cr 3+ to chromium hydroxide by using lime. An efficiency of 100 % was achievable and a settling time of 30 minutes produced clear effluent. Finally in Phase Ⅳ actual waste samples from chrome tanning and electroplating industries, when precipitated at pH of 12 gave 100 % efficiency at a settling time of 30 minutes and confirmed that chemical means of reduction and precipitation is a feasible and viable solution for treating chromium wastes from industries.M.A.Baig Mohsin Mir Shazad Murtaza Zafar I. 4Kudo's pit pattern classification for colorectal neoplasms:A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM:To analyze the current available evidence of Kudo's pit pattern classification for diagnosing colorectal neoplasms.METHODS:A search was performed on Pubmed/Embase to identify studies reporting the outcomes of the pit pattern classification in colorectal polyps.Retrieved records were evaluated and selected by two independent investigators.The number of patients,polyps and diagnostic performance of Kudo’s pit pattern classification were retrieved from suitable studies.Pooled sensitivities and specificities were calculated using fixed or random effect models according to their heterogeneity.Publication bias was evaluated using funnel plot,Egger’s test,and Begg’s test.Sensitivity analysis was performed by omitting one study at a time and selecting a subgroup consisting of 11 magnifying chromoendoscopy studies.RESULTS:20 eligible studies were included in which a total of 5111 colorectal lesions in 3418 patients were identified for the differentiation of neoplastic and nonneoplastic polyps.Pit pattern classification in all the studies of mucosal patterns with magnification resulted in a pooled sensitivity of 89.0%(95%CI:85.2-91.9)and pooled specificity of 85.7%(95%CI:81.3-89.2)and the area under the SROC curve was 0.9354.There was significant publication bias(P=0.038 and 0.006 for sensitivity and specificity using Egger’s test,P=0.035and 0.139 for sensitivity and specificity using Begg’s test,respectively).No single study significantly affected the pooled result,and the magnifying chromoendoscopy subgroup yielded a sensitivity of 92.7%(95%CI:89.2-95.2)and specificity of 87.3%(95%CI:81.6-91.4).CONCLUSION:Kudo’s pit pattern classification is an accurate diagnostic method for the differentiation of neoplastic colorectal lesions.Publication bias is significant in the current available literature.Ming Li Syed Mohsin Ali Syeda Umm-a-OmarahGilani Jing Liu Yan-Qing Li Xiu-Li Zuo 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,35:5

6Electrochemical CO_(2) reduction to C_(2+) products using Cu-based electrocatalysts:A review显示文摘With the disruptive carbon cycle being blamed for global warming,the plausible electrocatalytic CO_(2)reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)to form valuable C_(2+)hydrocarbons and feedstock is becoming a hot topic.Cu-based electrocatalysts have been proven to be excellent CO_(2)RR alternatives for high energy value-added products in this regard.However,the selectivity of CO_(2)RR to form C_(2+)products via Cu-based catalysts suffers from a high overpotential,slow reaction kinetics,and low selectivity.This review attempts to discuss various cutting-edge strategies for understanding catalytic design such as Cu-based catalyst surface engineering,tuning Cu bandgap via alloying,nanocatalysis,and the effect of the electrolyte and pH on catalyst morphology.The most recent advances in in situ spectroscopy and computational techniques are summarized to fully comprehend reaction mechanisms,structural transformation/degradation mechanisms,and crystal facet loss with subsequent effects on catalyst activity.Furthermore,approaches for tuning Cu interactions are discussed from four key perspectives:single-atom catalysts,interfacial engineering,metal-organic frameworks,and polymer-incorporated materials,which provide new insights into the selectivity of C_(2+)products.Finally,major challenges are outlined,and potential prospects for the rational design of catalysts for robust CO_(2)RR are proposed.The integration of catalytic design with mechanistic understanding is a step forward in the promising advancement of CO_(2)RR technology for industrial applications.Touqeer Ahmad Shuang Liu Muhammad Sajid Ke Li Mohsin Ali Liang Liu Wei Chen 2022Nano Research Energy2022,1,2:5
7Modeling and simulation of recurrent phenotypic and genomic selections in plant breeding under the presence of epistasis显示文摘Recurrent selection is an important breeding method for population improvement and selecting elite inbreds or fixed lines from the improved germplasm.Recently,a computer simulation tool called QuMARS has been developed,which allows the simulation and optimization of various recurrent selection strategies.Our major objective in this study was to use the QuMARS tool to compare phenotypic recurrent,marker-assisted recurrent,and genomic selections(abbreviated respectively as PS,MARS and GS)for both short-and long-termbreeding procedures.ForMARS,twomarker selection models were considered,i.e.,stepwise(Rstep)and forward regressions(Forward).For GS,three prediction models were considered,i.e.,genomic best linear unbiased predictors(GBLUP),ridge regression(Ridge),and regression by Moore-Penrose general inverse(InverseMP).To generate genotypes and phenotypes for a given individual during simulation,one additive and two epistasis genetic models were considered with three levels of heritability.Results demonstrated that selection responses from GBLUP-based GS and MARS(Forward)were consistently greater than those from PS under the additive model,particularly in early selection cycles.In contrast,selection response from PS was consistently superior over MARS and GS under epistatic models.For the two epistasis models,total genetic variance and the additive variance component were increased in some cases after selection.Through simulation,we concluded that GS and PS were effective recurrent selection methods for improved breeding of targeted traits controlled by additive and epistatic quantitative trait loci(QTL).QuMARS provides an opportunity for breeders to compare,optimize and integrate new technology into their conventional breeding programs.Mohsin Ali Luyan Zhang Ian DeLacy Vivi Arief Mark Dieters Wolfgang H.Pfeiffer Jiankang Wang Huihui Li 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,5:4
8Subversion of cellular autophagy during virus infection:Insights from hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses显示文摘Autophagy is a self-eating process,in which the damaged or excessed cell organelles and misfolded protein aggregates are removed from the cellular microenvironment.Autophagy is generally thought of as a pro-survival mechanism which is not only important for balancing energy supply at times of nutrient deprivation but also in the removal of various stress stimuli to ensure homeostasis.In addition to the target materials of“self”origin,autophagy can also eliminate intracellular pathogens and acts as a defense mechanism to curb infections.In addition,autophagy is linked to the host cell's innate immune response.However,viruses have evolved various strategies to manipulate and overtake host cell machinery to establish productive replication and maintain infectious process.In fact,replication of many viruses has been found to be autophagy-dependent and suppression of autophagy can potentially affect the viral replication.Thus,autophagy can either serve as an anti-viral defense mechanism or a pro-viral process that supports viral replication.Hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)are known to co-opt cellular autophagy process as a pro-viral tool.Both viruses also induce mitophagy,which contributes to the establishment of chronic hepatitis.This review focuses on the roles of autophagy and mitophagy in the chronic liver disease pathogenesis associated with HBV and HCV infections.Mohsin Khan Hasan Imam Aleem Siddiqui 2018Liver Research2018,2,3:4

10Phyto-Toxicity of Chromium in Maize: Oxidative Damage, Osmolyte Accumulation, Anti-Oxidative Defense and Chromium Uptake显示文摘Agricultural production systems are immensely exposed to different environmental stresses in which heavy metal stress receives serious concerns. This study was conducted to explore the deleterious effects of different chromium(Cr) stress levels, i.e., 0, 30, 6090, 120, and 150 μmol L-1, on two maize genotypes, Wandan 13 and Runnong 35. Both genotypes were evaluated by measuring their growth and yield characteristics, Cr accumulation in different plant tissues, alterations in osmolyte accumulation, generation o reactive oxygen species(ROS), and anti-oxidative enzyme activity to scavenge ROS. The results showed that Cr stress decreased the leaf area, cob formation, 100-grain weight, shoot fresh biomass, and yield formation, while Cr accumulation in different maize tissues was found in the order of roots > leaves > stem > seeds in both genotypes. The increased Cr toxicity resulted in higher free proline soluble sugars and total phenolic contents, and lower soluble protein contents. However, enhanced lipid peroxidation was noticed in the forms of malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance accumulation, and electrolyte leakage. The hyperactivity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, especially glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase indicated that these anti-oxidative enzymes had a central role in protecting maize from Cr toxicity, especially for Wandan 13. 12High-dose-rate intraluminal brachytherapy during preoperative chemoradiation for locally advanced rectal cancers显示文摘AIM:To determine the feasibility and safety of high dose rate intraluminal brachytherapy(HDR-ILBT) boost during preoperative chemoradiation for rectal cancer.METHODS:Between 2008 and 2009,thirty-six patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(≥ T3 or N+),were treated initially with concurrent capecitabine(825 mg/m2 oral twice daily) and pelvic external beam radiotherapy(EBRT)(45 Gy in 25 fractions),then were randomized to group A;HDR-ILBT group(n = 17) to receive 5.5-7 Gy×2 to gross tumor volume(GTV) and group B;EBRT group(n = 19) to receive 5.4 Gy×3 fractions to GTV with EBRT.All patients underwent total mesorectal excision.RESULTS:Grade 3 acute toxicities were registered in 12 patients(70.6%) in group A and in 8(42.1%) in group B.Complete pathologic response of T stage(ypT0) in group A was registered in 10 patients(58.8%) and in group B,3 patients(15.8%) had ypT0(P < 0.0001).Sphincter preservation was reported in 6/9 patients(66.7%) in group A and in 5/10 patients(50%) in group B(P < 0.01).Overall radiological response was 68.15% and 66.04% in Group A and B,respectively.During a median follow up of 18 mo,late grade 1 and 2 sequelae were registered in 3 patients(17.6%) and 4 patients(21.1%) in the groups A and B,respectively.CONCLUSION:HDR-ILBT was found to be effective dose escalation technique in preoperative chemoradiation for rectal cancers,with higher response rates,downstaging and with manageable acute toxicities.Mutahir Ali Tunio Mansoor Rafi Altaf Hashmi Rehan Mohsin Abdul Qayyum Mujahid Hasan Amjad Sattar Muhammad Mubarak 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,35:3
13Is intra-operative cholangiography necessary during laparoscopic cholecystectomy? A multicentre rural experience from a developing world country显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) in nonteaching rural hospitals of a developing country without intra-operative cholangiography (IOC). To evaluate the possibility of reduction of costs and hospital stay for patients undergoing LC.METHODS: A prospective analysis of patients with symptomatic benign diseases of gall bladder undergoing LC in three non-teaching rural hospitals of Kashmir Valley from Jan 2001 to Jan 2007. The cohort represented a sample of patients requiring LC, aged 13 to 78 (mean 47.2) years. Main outcome parameters included mortality, complications, re-operation, conversion to open procedure without resorting to IOC, reduction in costs borne by the hospital, and the duration of hospital stay.RESULTS: Twelve hundred and sixty-seven patients (976 females/291 males) underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Twenty-three cases were converted to open procedures; 12 patients developed port site infection, nobody died because of the procedure. One patient had common bile duct (CBD) injury, 4 patients had biliary leak, and 4 patients had subcutaneous emphysema. One cholecystohepatic duct was detected and managed intraoperatively, 1 patient had retained CBD stones, while 1 patient had retained cystic duct stones. Incidental gallbladder malignancy was detected in 2 cases. No long-term complications were detected up to now.CONCLUSION: LC can be performed safely even in non-teaching rural hospitals of a developing country provided proper equipment is available and the surgeons and other team members are well trained in the procedure. It is stressed that IOC is not essential to prevent biliary tract injuries and missed CBD stones. 15Low-temperature sintered(Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2))TiO_(3)-based incipient piezoceramics for co-fired multilayer actuator application显示文摘Low-temperature sintered(Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2))_(0.935)Ba_(0.065)Ti_(0.975)(Fe_(1/2)Nb_(1/2))_(0.025)O_(3)(NBT-BT-0.025FN)lead-free incipient piezoceramics were investigated using high-purity Li_(2)CO_(3) as sintering aids.With the ≤0.5 wt%Li_(2)CO_(3) addition,the introduced Li^(+) cations precede to enter the A-sites of the perovskite lattice to compensate for the A-site deficiencies.Once the addition exceeds 0.5 wt%,the excess Lit cations will occupy B-sites and give rise to the generation of oxygen vacancies,which accelerate the mass transport and thus lower the sintering temperature effectively from 1100℃ down to 925℃.It was also found that a small amount of Lit addition has little effect on the phase structure and electromechanical properties of the system,but overweight seriously disturbs these characteristics because of the large lattice distortion.The sintered NBT-BT-0.025FN incipient piezoceramics with 1.25 wt%Li_(2)CO_(3) addition at 925℃ provides a large strain of 0.33% and a corresponding large signal piezoelectric coefficient d_(33)^(*) of 550 pm/V at 60 kV/cm,indicating this system is a very promising candidate for lead-free co-fired multilayer actuator application.Pengyuan Fan Yangyang Zhang Shan-Tao Zhang Bing Xie Yiwei Zhu Mohsin Ali Marwat Weigang Ma Kai Liu Liang Shu Haibo Zhang 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,3:3
163D CFD validation of invert trap efficiency for sewer solid management using VOF model显示文摘Earlier investigators have numerically carried out performance analysis of the invert trap fitted in an open channel using the stochastic discrete phase model(DPM) by assuming the open channel flow to be closed conduit flow under pressure and assuming zero shear stress at the top wall.This is known as the fixed lid model.By assuming the top wall to be a shear free wall,they have been able to show that the velocity distribution looks similar to that of an open channel flow with zero velocity at the bottom and maximum velocity at the top,representing the free water surface,but no information has been provided for the pressure at the free water surface.Because of this assumption,the validation of the model in predicting the trap efficiency has performed significantly poorly.In addition,the free water surface subject to zero gauge pressure cannot be modeled using the fixed lid model because there is no provision of extra space in the form of air space for the fluctuating part of the water surface profile.It can.however,be modeled using the volume of fluid(VOF) model because the VOF model is the appropriate model for open channel or free surface flow.Therefore,in the present study,three-dimensional(3D) computational fluid dynamics(CFD) modeling with the VOF model,which considers open channel flow with a free water surface,along with the stochastic DPM.was used to model the trap efficiency of an invert trap fitted in an open rectangular channel.The governing mathematical flow equations of the VOF model were solved using the ANSYS Fluent 14.0 software,reproducing the experimental conditions exactly.The results show that the 3D CFD predictions using the VOF model closely fit the experimental data for glass bead particles.Mohammad Mohsin Deo Raj Kaushal 2016Water Science and Engineering2016,9,2:3
17Mortality and morbidity in patients with atrial fibrillation and liver cirrhosis显示文摘BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation(AF)is the most common cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice.However,the outcomes associated with AF in hospitalized patients with liver cirrhosis are unknown.AIM To determine the outcomes of hospitalized patients with liver cirrhosis and AF.METHODS In this study,we examined morbidity and mortality of patients with concomitant AF and liver cirrhosis from the National Inpatient Sample database,the largest publicly available inpatient healthcare database in the United States.RESULTS A total of 696937 patients with liver cirrhosis were included,45745 of whom had concomitant AF(6.6%).Liver cirrhosis patients with AF had higher rates of inhospital mortality(12.6%vs 10.3%,P<0.001),clinical stroke(1.6%vs 1.1%,P<0.001),and acute kidney injury(28.2%vs 25.1%,P<0.001),and less gastrointestinal bleeding(4.4%vs 5.1%,P<0.001)and blood transfusion(22.5%vs 23.8%,P<0.001)compared with those who did not have the arrhythmia.In addition,they had a longer length of stay(8±10 d vs 7±8 d,P<0.001)and higher hospitalization costs(20720±33210$vs 16272±24166$,P<0.001).CONCLUSION In subjects with liver cirrhosis,AF is associated with higher rates of inpatient mortality,stroke,and acute kidney injury compared to those who do not have the cardiac arrhythmia.Yousef H Darrat Aiman Smer Claude-Samy Elayi Gustavo X Morales Fahad Alqahtani Mohamad Alkhouli John Catanzaro Jignesh Shah Mohsin Salih 2020World Journal of Cardiology2020,12,7:2

19Advances in engineered Bacillus subtilis biofilms and spores, and their applications in bioremediation, biocatalysis, and biomaterials显示文摘Bacillus subtilis is a commonly used commercial specie with broad applications in the fields of bioengineering and biotechnology.B.subtilis is capable of producing both biofilms and spores.Biofilms are matrix-encased multicellular communities that comprise various components including exopolysaccharides,proteins,extracellular DNA,and poly-γ-glutamic acid.These biofilms resist environmental conditions such as oxidative stress and hence have applications in bioremediation technologies.Furthermore,biofilms and spores can be engineered through biotechnological techniques for environmentally-friendly and safe production of bio-products such as enzymes.The ability to withstand with harsh conditions and producing spores makes Bacillus a suitable candidate for surface display technology.In recent years,the spores of such specie are widely used as it is generally regarded as safe to use.Advances in synthetic biology have enabled the reprogramming of biofilms to improve their functions and enhance the production of value-added products.Globally,there is increased interest in the production of engineered biosensors,biocatalysts,and biomaterials.The elastic modulus and gel properties of B.subtilis biofilms have been utilized to develop living materials.This review outlines the formation of B.subtilis biofilms and spores.Biotechnological engineering processes and their increasing application in bioremediation and biocatalysis,as well as the future directions of B.subtilis biofilm engineering,are discussed.Furthermore,the ability of B.subtilis biofilms and spores to fabricate functional living materials with self-regenerating,self-regulating and environmentally responsive characteristics has been summarized.This review aims to resume advances in biological engineering of B.subtilis biofilms and spores and their applications.Muhammad Zubair Mohsin Rabia Omer Jiaofang Huang Ali Mohsin Meijin Guo Jiangchao Qian Yingping Zhuang 2021Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2021,6,3:2
