1Au nanoclusters suppress chronic lymphocytic leukaemia cells by inhibiting thioredoxin reductase 1 to induce intracellular oxidative stress and apoptosis显示文摘Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia(CLL) is a rare blood cancer that always relapses as refractory disease and eventually leads to death. To date, therapeutic options for CLL patients are scarce and there is an urgent need to develop novel chemotherapeutics that are both effective and safe. Gold-containing compounds induce a lethal oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum stress response in cultured and primary CLL cells via inhibition of thioredoxin reductase(TrxR). However, traditional gold-containing medicines have revealed side effects during clinical applications. Therefore, safer gold-containing drugs are needed to overcome this challenge. In this study, a novel peptide templated gold cluster Au_(25)Sv_9 was synthesized and its therapeutic effect on CLL cells was evaluated. This nanocluster could induce cell apoptosis in MEC-1 cells in a dose-dependent manner which correlated with the uptake amount of clusters in cells.As expected, increasing intracellular reactive oxidative species(ROS) in MEC-1 cells was exhibited with the increase of cluster dosage. Further analyses demonstrated the underlying mechanism that the nanoclusters suppress the activity of TrxR1, increase the level of intracellular ROS, destroy the mitochondrial membrane potential and finally trigger the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway in MEC-1 cells.Furthermore, the direct interaction between Au_(25)Sv_9 clusters and TrxR1 was confirmed for the first time by isothermal titration calorimetry. 3Adversarial Attacks on Content-Based Filtering Journal Recommender Systems显示文摘Recommender systems are very useful for people to explore what they really need.Academic papers are important achievements for researchers and they often have a great deal of choice to submit their papers.In order to improve the efficiency of selecting the most suitable journals for publishing their works,journal recommender systems(JRS)can automatically provide a small number of candidate journals based on key information such as the title and the abstract.However,users or journal owners may attack the system for their own purposes.In this paper,we discuss about the adversarial attacks against content-based filtering JRS.We propose both targeted attack method that makes some target journals appear more often in the system and non-targeted attack method that makes the system provide incorrect recommendations.We also conduct extensive experiments to validate the proposed methods.We hope this paper could help improve JRS by realizing the existence of such adversarial attacks.Zhaoquan Gu Yinyin Cai Sheng Wang Mohan Li Jing Qiu Shen Su Xiaojiang Du Zhihong Tian 2020Computers, Materials & Continua2020,,9:2

9On-chip beam rotators,adiabatic mode converters,and waveplates through low-loss waveguides with variable cross-sections显示文摘Photonics integrated circuitry would benefit considerably from the ability to arbitrarily control waveguide cross-sections with high precision and low loss,in order to provide more degrees of freedom in manipulating propagating light.Here,we report a new method for femtosecond laser writing of optical-fiber-compatible glass waveguides,namely spherical phase-induced multicore waveguide(SPIM-WG),which addresses this challenging task with three-dimensional on-chip light control.Fabricating in the heating regime with high scanning speed,precise deformation of cross-sections is still achievable along the waveguide,with shapes and sizes finely controllable of high resolution in both horizontal and vertical transversal directions.We observed that these waveguides have high refractive index contrast of 0.017,low propagation loss of 0.14 dB/cm,and very low coupling loss of 0.19 dB coupled from a single-mode fiber.SPIM-WG devices were easily fabricated that were able to perform on-chip beam rotation through varying angles,or manipulate the polarization state of propagating light for target wavelengths.We also demonstrated SPIM-WG mode converters that provide arbitrary adiabatic mode conversion with high efficiency between symmetric and asymmetric nonuniform modes;examples include circular,elliptical modes,and asymmetric modes from ppKTP(periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate)waveguides which are generally applied in frequency conversion and quantum light sources.Created inside optical glass,these waveguides and devices have the capability to operate across ultra-broad bands from visible to infrared wavelengths.The compatibility with optical fiber also paves the way toward packaged photonic integrated circuitry,which usually needs input and output fiber connections.Bangshan Sun Fyodor Morozko Patrick S.Salter Simon Moser Zhikai Pong Raj B.Patel Ian A.Walmsley Mohan Wang Adir Hazan Nicolas Barré Alexander Jesacher Julian Fells Chao He Aviad Katiyi Zhen-Nan Tian Alina Karabchevsky Martin J.Booth 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,8:1

18Use of the Max Ent model to predict changes in sloth bear(Melursus ursinus)habitats in the Gandaki River Basin,Nepal显示文摘The Gandaki River Basin(GRB),located in the central Himalaya,provides habitats for a large number of important flora and fauna species.The habitats of key protected species have changed over time as a result of climate changes and human activities related to land use change,including the development of roads.This study assessed the present and future distributions of sloth bear(Melursus ursinus)habitats using the maximum entropy(Max Ent)model.Bioclimatic data,a digital elevation model and roads were used as environmental layers to assess current and future distributions of habitat.Results show that the overall habitat within the study area is likely to undergo important changes in the future.Bio 8(the mean temperature of the wettest quarter)and slope were found to be important variables affecting the distribution of the species.The habitats very highly suitable for sloth bears currently cover an area of 148 km^(2) within the GRB.These habitats are predicted to increase by 122 km^(2) more by 2050.Overall,a net change by 680.38 km^(2) was found in the GRB.Conservation measures are necessary for this key protected species and its habitat within the GRB and elsewhere in Nepal.Raju RAI ZHANG Yi-li WANG Zhao-feng Basanta PAUDEL LIU Lin-shan Mohan Kumar RAI Narendra Raj KHANAL 2022Journal of Mountain Science2022,19,7:1
19Femtosecond laser fabrication of nanograting-based distributed fiber sensors for extreme environmental applications显示文摘The femtosecond laser has emerged as a powerful tool for micro-and nanoscale device fabrication. Through nonlinear ionization processes, nanometer-sized material modifications can be inscribed in transparent materials for device fabrication. This paper describes femtosecond precision inscription of nanograting in silica fiber cores to form both distributed and point fiber sensors for sensing applications in extreme environmental conditions. Through the use of scanning electron microscope imaging and laser processing optimization,high-temperature stable, Type II femtosecond laser modifications were continuously inscribed,point by point, with only an insertion loss at 1 d B m~(-1) or 0.001 d B per point sensor device.High-temperature performance of fiber sensors was tested at 1000℃, which showed a temperature fluctuation of ±5.5℃ over 5 days. The low laser-induced insertion loss in optical fibers enabled the fabrication of a 1.4 m, radiation-resilient distributed fiber sensor. The in-pile testing of the distributed fiber sensor further showed that fiber sensors can execute stable and distributed temperature measurements in extreme radiation environments.
