| 5 | Synergistic Effects of Biochar and NPK Fertilizer on Soybean Yield in an Alkaline Soil显示文摘Biochar effects on legume growth and biological nitrogen fixation have been studied extensively, mostly in acidic soils with laboratory produced biochar. In the present study, a pot experiment in a full factorial experimental design was performed to examine soybean yield and nodulation of three genotypes grown with or without biochar and NPK fertilizers in an alkaline soil. We observed synergistic effects of biochar and NPK fertilizer applications on biomass and seed yields for all three soybean genotypes. Total biomass production and seed yield increased on average by 67% and 54%, respectively, with biochar and by 201% and 182% with NPK fertilizer application compared to the control. When applications of biochar and NPK fertilizer were combined, the increases were 391% and367%, respectively. However, the biomass production in the control was very low(692 kg ha-1) due to a high soil p H(8.80). The nodulation increased with biochar and NPK fertilizer applications, and was largest with the combined application. A correlation was found between leaf chlorophyll content(single photon avalanche diode value) and nodule number. | 8 | CALCULATION OF VISCOUS FLOW AROUND CIRCULAR CYLINDER WITH THREE-DIMENSIONAL NUMERICAL SIMULATION显示文摘Three-dimensional numerical simulation of a uniform incompressible viscous flow around a stationary circular cylinder was conducted. The CFX-4 software was used to calculate the hydrodynamic characteristics of the flow and the finite volume method for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations was employed in the program. The simulation of the flow was performed for Re=10 3 and Re=10 4 respectively within the sub-critical region. In order to overcome numerical instability for the high Reynolds number flows, a quadratic upwind scheme was incorporated for the Navier-Stokes equations. The periodicity boundary condition was used at the ends of the cylinder. It was found that the evolution of the lift and drag coefficients in each plane along the cylinder span is different. Comparison between the predicted results based on the three-dimensional and the two-dimensional analysis was also given. | 9 | Neuro faces of beneficial T cells:essential in brain,impaired in aging and neurological diseases,and activated functionally by neurotransmitters and neuropeptides显示文摘T cells are essential for a healthy life,performing continuously:immune surveillance,recognition,protection,activation,suppression,assistance,eradication,secretion,adhesion,migration,homing,communications,and additional tasks.This paper describes five aspects of normal beneficial T cells in the healthy or diseased brain.First,normal beneficial T cells are essential for normal healthy brain functions:cognition,spatial learning,memory,adult neurogenesis,and neuroprotection.T cells decrease secondary neuronal degeneration,increase neuronal survival after central nervous system(CNS) injury,and limit CNS inflammation and damage upon injury and infection.Second,while pathogenic T cells contribute to CNS disorders,recent studies,mostly in animal models,show that specific subpopulations of normal beneficial T cells have protective and regenerative effects in seve ral neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.These include M ultiple Sclerosis(MS),Alzheimer’s disease,Parkinson’s disease,Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS),stro ke,CNS trauma,chronic pain,and others.Both T cell-secreted molecules and direct cell-cell contacts deliver T cell neuroprotective,neuro regenerative and immunomodulato ry effects.Third,normal beneficial T cells are abnormal,impaired,and dysfunctional in aging and multiple neurological diseases.Different T cell impairments are evident in aging,brain tumors(mainly Glioblastoma),seve re viral infections(including COVID-19),chro nic stress,major depression,schizophrenia,Parkinson’s disease,Alzheimer’s disease,ALS,MS,stro ke,and other neuro-pathologies.The main detrimental mechanisms that impair T cell function are activation-induced cell death,exhaustion,senescence,and impaired T cell stemness.Fo urth,several physiological neurotransmitters and neuro peptides induce by themselves multiple direct,potent,beneficial,and therapeutically-relevant effects on normal human T cells,via their receptors in T cells.This scientific field is called 'Nerve-Driven Immunity'.The main neurotransmitters and neuropeptides that induce directly activating and beneficial effects on naive normal human T cells are:dopamine,glutamate,GnRH-Ⅱ,neuropeptide Y,calcitonin gene-related peptide,and somatostatin.Fifth, 'Personalized Adoptive Neuro-Immunotherapy'.This is a novel unique cellular immunotherapy,based on the 'Nerve-Driven Immunity' findings,which was recently designed and patented for safe and repeated rejuvenation,activation,and improvement of impaired and dysfunctional T cells of any person in need,by ex vivo exposure of the person’s T cells to neurotransmitters and neuropeptides.Personalized adoptive neuro-immunotherapy includes an early ex vivo personalized diagnosis,and subsequent ex vivo in vivo personalized adoptive therapy,tailo red according to the diagnosis.The Personalized Adoptive Neuro-Immunotherapy has not yet been tested in humans,pending validation of safety and efficacy in clinical trials,especially in brain tumors,chronic infectious diseases,and aging,in which T cells are exhausted and/or senescent and dysfunctional. | Mia Levite | 2023 | Neural Regeneration Research2023,18,6: | 4 |

| 12 | Towards the Tipping Point for FAIR Implementation显示文摘This article explores the global implementation of the FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific management and data stewardship,which provide that data should be findable,accessible,interoperable and reusable.The implementation of these principles is designed to lead to the stewardship of data as FAIR digital objects and the establishment of the Internet of FAIR Data and Services(IFDS).If implementation reaches a tipping point,IFDS has the potential to revolutionize how data is managed by making machine and human readable data discoverable for reuse.Accordingly,this article examines the expansion of the implementation of FAIR Guiding Principles,especially how and in which geographies(locations)and areas(topic domains)implementation is taking place.A literature review of academic articles published between 2016 and 2019 on the use of FAIR Guiding Principles is presented.The investigation also includes an analysis of the domains in the IFDS Implementation Networks(INs).Its uptake has been mainly in the Western hemisphere.The investigation found that implementation of FAIR Guiding Principles has taken firm hold in the domain of bio and natural sciences.To achieve a tipping point for FAIR implementation,it is now time to ensure the inclusion of non-European ascendants and of other scientific domains.Apart from equal opportunity and genuine global partnership issues,a permanent European bias poses challenges with regard to the representativeness and validity of data and could limit the potential of IFDS to reach across continental boundaries.The article concludes that,despite efforts to be inclusive,acceptance of the FAIR Guiding Principles and IFDS in different scientific communities is limited and there is a need to act now to prevent dampening of the momentum in the development and implementation of the IFDS.It is further concluded that policy entrepreneurs and the GO FAIR INs may contribute to making the FAIR Guiding Principles more flexible in including different research epistemologies,especially through its GO CHANGE pillar. | Mirjam van Reisen Mia Stokmans Mariam Basajja Antony Otieno Ong’ayo Christine Kirkpatrick Barend Mons | 2020 | Data Intelligence2020,2,1: | 3 |

An increasing number of malignant mesothelioma cases have been reported in recent years. We report here a very rare case of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma with both umbilical hernia and umbilical metastasis which is also called Sister Mary Joseph's nodule. We performed laparoscopy which showed specific laparoscopic findings, and the pathological findings of the biopsy specimen led to the diagnosis. This case was associated with umbilical her-nia which could be induced by massive ascites. | 14 | Acute effects of Helicobacter pylori extracts on gastric mucosal blood flow in the mouse显示文摘AIM: To investigate the mechanisms underlying the reduction in gastric blood flow induced by a luminal water extract of Helicobacter pylori (HPE). METHODS: The stomachs of isourane-anesthetized mice were exteriorized, and the mucosal surface exposed. Blood flow was measured with the laser-Doppler technique, and systemic arterial blood pressure monitored. C57BL/6 mice were exposed to water extract produced from H pylori strain 88-23. To investigate the role of a nerveor iNOS-mediated pathway, we used intraluminal lidocaine and iNOS-/-mice. Blood flow response to the endogenous nitric oxide synthase inhibitor asymmetric dimethyl arginine (ADMA) was also assessed. RESULTS: In wild-type mice, HPE decreased mucosal blood flow by approximately 30%. This reduction was abolished in iNOS-defi cient mice, and by pre-treatment with lidocaine. Luminally applied ADMA resulted in reduction in blood flow similar to that observed in wild-type mice exposed to HPE.
