The Recovery of Two Long-logged Headwaters in Temengor Reservoir,Perak,Malaysia显示文摘A study on water quality of the two long-logged and abandoned headwaters in Temengor Reservoir was conducted to determine their natural recovery. In this study,we used National Water Quality Standards for Malaysia prepared by Malaysian Department of Environment as an indicator for water quality recovery. The parameters measured were dissolved oxygen(mg/L),water temperature(℃),pH,conductivity(mS/cm),total dissolved solids(mg/ L),water velocity(m/s),ortho-phosphate(PO4-P),nitrite-nitrogen(NO2-N),nitrate-nitrogen(NO3,-N)and alkalinity. In general, water quality in Sungai Enam and Sungai Telang were in ClassⅠ,indicating water quality in both streams have recovered.Based on the t-test,Sungai Enam and Sungai Telang differed significantly in all parameters except for dissolved oxygen,NO2-N and NO3-N.In spatial analyses(upper, middle and lower reaches comparisons), the two-way ANOVA analysis shows that there were significant differences in all studied parameters between the two rivers except for dissolved oxygen, total dissolved solids,NO2-N and NO3-N.Stream flow, hydrologic pathways, geomorphology, physical and environmental characteristics are essential elements in understanding the dynamics of water systems in Sungai Enam and Sungai Telang.Due to the recovery, these two headwaters are thus suitable for fish conservation and restoration sites. | Zarul Hazrin Hashim Amir Shah Ruddin Md Shah Khoo Khay Huat Shahrul Anuar Md.Sah Mashhor Mansor | 2011 | 湿地科学2011,9,2: | 1

Agrobiodiversity of Muda Rice Agroecosystem:A Case Study in Largest Granary Area of Malaysia显示文摘A survey was carried out at the largest rice cultivation area in Peninsular Malaysia, the Muda rice agroecosystem. The main objective of this study was to document the overall biodiversity associated with this unique agroecosystem by using a combination of sampling techniques in order to record different groups of fauna and flora. The total number of biota recorded and identified from the rice field ecosystem during the study period consisted of 46 species of zooplankton,81 species of aquatic insects,5 species of rodents,7 species of bats,87 species of birds,11 species of fishes and 58 species of weeds.A long-term study should be carried out as more species are expected to be recorded when more of the Muda rice agroecosystem area has been sampled to obtain sufficient information on the Muda rice agrobiodiversity. | Amir Shah Ruddin Md Shah Mashhor Mansor Shahrul Anuar Mohd Shah Che Salmah Mohd Rawi Abu Hassan Ahmad Ibrahim Jaafar | 2008 | 湿地科学2008,6,1: | 0
The Influence of Seasonal Changes and Headwaters on Physico-chemical Dynamics of Temengor Reservoir, Malaysia显示文摘A study on physico-chemical dynamics of Temengor Reservoir was conducted to determine whether headwaters and seasonal changes play a major role in regulating physico-chemical dynamics of Temengor Reservoir. Temengor Reservoir receives water from its surrounding water catchments and headwaters. Then, the water flows into a series of hydroelectric dams, namely the Bersia, Kenering and Chenderoh dams. Generally, water quality in Temengor Reservoir can be classified as Class I. Physico-chemical trends showed that water quality in euphotic zone of Temengor Reservoir is stable and consistent. Two-way ANOVA analyses showed that seasonal variations only affected water temperature, Secchi disc's depth and nitrate-nitrogen. Based on Tukey's post-hoc test, all three headwaters in this study exert no influence to the reservoir's water quality. These insignificant differences were probably due to water temperature and the size of the headwaters and the reservoir itself. In situ parameters profiling showed that the epilimnion zone in Temengor Reservoir is from the surface to 6 m depth, the metalimnion zone is from 6 m to 12 m depth and the hypolimnion zone is from 12 m depth onwards to the bottom of the reservoir. Thus, continuous water profiling monitoring that covers high and low water levels need to be conducted to determine characteristics of the physico-chemical dynamics in the water column and also to analyse changes in reservoir layers. Through these studies, discontinuity trends in the Perak River could be determined and suggestions to the respective agencies could be made to conserve and to sustain downstream biodiversity. | Zarul Hazrin Hashim Asmah Patiroi Mashhor Mansor Shahrul Anuar Md. | 6 | WATER QUALITY STUDIES IN MALAYSIAN DISUSED MAN MADE LAKES FOR SUITABILITY OF AN AQUACULTURE PROJECT显示文摘A study has been conducted on the status of water quality in two disused man made lakes, which have potential for cage aquaculture project. This study highlights the quality of water analyzed with reference to various physical-chemical parameters in two selected lakes and their suitability for fish farming. A number of parameters were measured including the amount of NH_ 3 -N, NO_ 3 -N, NO_ 2 -N and total phosphorus while in-situ measurement including DO, pH, temperature, conductivity, TDS and Secchi disk visibility. Beside the physical-chemical of water, the location, morphometry and climate conditions were also investigated. The chemical data analyzed for six months indicated that Lake A and Lake B are characterized by relatively high DO, slightly neutral pH and low TSS. The concentration of NH_ 3 -N and NO_ 2 -N was very low (0.058 mg/L and 0.04 mg/L, respectively) and total phosphorus was usually in low concentration and sometimes would seem negligible. Besides, NO_ 3 -N occurred in slightly higher concentration ( 1.75 mg/L ). Results obtained indicated that the study site has high potentiality for development of inland fisheries practices. | Azma Hanim Ismail Mashhor Mansor Wan Maznah W O | 2005 | 湿地科学2005,3,4: | 0
FRESHWATER ALGAE COMMUNITY OF A MELTWATER RUNNEL,REEVE HILL, CASEY STATION, ANTARCTICA显示文摘The Antarctic runnel can be highly variable in space and time; however, this environment has provided aninteresting habitat for terrestrial algal colonization. The runnel of Reeve Hill, Casey Station (66°16.855′S, 110°31.045′E), Antarctica, which occurs intermittently only during the brief austral summer showed high colonization by microalgaedominated mainly by Cyanobacteria mats and diatoms. 9 freshwater microalgae species which includesOscillatoria frac-ta, Oscillatoriasp., Navicula muticopsis, Pinnularia borealis, Nitzschiasp., Prasiola crispa, Chlorococcumsp., Syene-chococcus aeruginosusandSyenechococcus maiorwere recorded during the study. The algal community in the runnel to beobserved closely resembles that in the larger running water ecosystems in the continent. However, intrusion of seawater, direct exposure to sunlight and influence of sea current in the lower part changes the species community. The lower run-nel showed total dominance consists mainly of the marine planktonic Bacillariophycea. Other species detected includes Flagilaria kerguelensis, Flagilaria linearis, Eucampia antarctica, Thalassiosira tumida,Pseudonitzschia lineola, Pseud-onitzschia turgiduloides, Achnanthes brevipesand Odontella litigiosa. Lower algal species diversity observed in this studysuggests that the number of species obtained is related to the area of environment from which the samples were derived. The local assemblages simply contain species that is favored by the environmental conditions. | Faradina Merican Wan Maznah W O Wan Asmadi W A Mashhor Mansor | 2007 | 湿地科学2007,5,3: | 0
The Current Status of Riparian Vegetation along Bank of Kelantan River after the Worst Flood for Decades显示文摘Undeniably Kelantan is one of the east coast states of Malaysia, which has faced yearly flooding catastrophe especially during north-east-monsoon season. The aims of this study are to record the land uses from upstream to downstream of Kelantan River basin, and to record the riparian vegetation that are resistance and susceptible to flood situations in affected areas along the bank of Kelantan River after December 2014 when the worst flood was recorded for decades.A serial of surveys were conducted at 9 sampling sites(S1 to S9)from the upstream to the downstream in the basin. The massive clearing in the forest in the basin particularly in the upper streams was a serious problem.Heavy loads of sedimentations greatly affected the hydrological system of Kelantan River. There were 64 plant species were recorded in this study. Most sampling sites were submerged and most of the riparian plants survived although the flood levels reached 10 m.On the other hand, some commercial tree species such as Elaeis guenensis,Lansium parasiticum and Nephelium lappaceum could not thrive in flooding conditions. It should be noted that the populations of noxious, such as Mimosa pigra and Piper aduncum had colonized most parts of riparian zones.Perhaps due to the disturbances of catchment and riparian vegetations, the river water regimes have been transformed. Therefore, the ecological assessments and socio-economic approaches were recommended in order to mitigate the flood situation. | Onrizal Siti Norasikin Ismail Muzzalifah Abd Hamid Mashhor Mansor | 2017 | 湿地科学2017,15,1: | 0
The Effect of Tsunami in 2004 on Mangrove Forests, Nias Island, Indonesia显示文摘The earthquake and tsunami that devastated coastal area in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province and North Sumatra Province, especially Nias Island on December 26,2004,caused damage to most mangrove and coastal forests in the areas. Before the 2004 tsunami, there is no report or publication about mangrove and coastal vegetation in Nias Island. The aims of this research were to describe the mangrove forests and coastal vegetation after tsunami disaster and to learn the ecological functions of mangrove forests and coastal vegetation on shore protection.Field surveys,in eastern, northern and western coast of Nias Island within 10 days of the middle weeks in March 2005 and in southern coast of Nias Island within 6 days of the first 2 weeks in November 2006 after the 2004 tsunami, were conducted. Our research results showed that dense mangrove forests and coastal vegetation had been proven to be effective on protecting coastal area from the tsunami, while heavy damage occurred in the areas that have degraded mangrove and coastal forests. Therefore, mangrove forests play an important role on shore protection, and this protection depends on the quality of the mangrove habitats. It should be noted that degraded habitats or habitats with mangrove associate species instead of true mangrove species do not provide adequate protection. | Onrizal Cecep Kusmana Mashhor Mansor | 2009 | 湿地科学2009,7,2: | 0

The Distribution of Riparian Corridor Plants and the Relations to River Water Salinity along Perai River,Penang,Malaysia显示文摘Ecological surveys were carried out to investigate the distribution and characterization of riparian corridor plants along the Perai River,Penang,Malaysia from July 2007 to March 2008.Surveys were design to represent horizon-tal sections of the river starting from the river mouth towards the upper reaches for 20 km.A total of 84 species of plants from 30 families were recorded. They consisted of 28 species of standing plants(plants with height of more than 1 m)and 56 species of weedy plants(plants with height of less than 1 m).Standing plants consisted of ferns, palms, herbs, shrubs and mangroves while weedy plants comprised of aroids, grasses, sedges and broad leaf weed.Species abundance and dominance for each zone were relatively different.Dominant species was determined using Important Species Index(ISI).Based on ISI,the important species of standing plants were Sonneratia alba,Acrostichum aureum,Nypa fruti-cans,Avicennia marina,Rhizophora apiculata,Acrostichum speciosum and Rhizophora mucronata.Weedy plants were dominated by Mikania micrantha,Cryptocoryne ciliata,Wedelia trilobata and Asystasia intrusa. The distribution of the corridor plant species was closely related to the pattern of river water salinity measurements. The distribution of mangrove species with tolerance and adaptation to seawater appeared as follows:Avicennia marina,Rhizophora apiculata,Rhizo-phora mucronata,Sonneratia alba,Nypa fructicans,Acrostichum aureum and Acrostichum speciosum. | Siti Nurfazilah Abdul Rahman Johan Ismail Mashhor Mansor | 2010 | 湿地科学2010,8,1: | 0
RIVER SYSTEM AND DISTURBANCE FACTORS IN THE LAKE TOBA显示文摘Situated at an elevation of 905 m above sea level in the Province of North Sumatra, Lake Toba and its surrounding landscapes are regarded as a natural heritage in a certain extent, as a quoted national treasure. Unfortunately degradation of the land and water resources in the watershed along Lake Toba is taking place at an alarming and totally unacceptable rate. The quality of the lake is partly depended on input the quality of the rivers. When compared to the control area the water quality that influenced by the piggeries are highly polluted. It can be concluded that the Salbe River at the downstream of the piggeries has been polluted and apparently it is a serious problem to the catchment area management. It should be noted that the polluted river would influence the water quality of the Lake Toba. Based on calculation, the permissible BOD 5 according to B-river standard is 238 mg/L, it means the river still in B standard but the condition and quality are decreasing continuously. Following the Indonesian health standard the permissible BOD is - 461 mg/L. It means BOD in the river should be reduced 461 mg/L or clean program is needed. | Zulkifli Nasution Mashhor Mansor | 2004 | 湿地科学2004,2,2: | 0
Automatic Detection and Classification of Human Knee Osteoarthritis Using Convolutional Neural Networks显示文摘Knee Osteoarthritis(KOA)is a degenerative knee joint disease caused by‘wear and tear’of ligaments between the femur and tibial bones.Clinically,KOA is classified into four grades ranging from 1 to 4 based on the degradation of the ligament in between these two bones and causes suffering from impaired movement.Identifying this space between bones through the anterior view of a knee X-ray image is solely subjective and challenging.Automatic classification of this process helps in the selection of suitable treatment processes and customized knee implants. In this research,a new automatic classification of KOA images based on unsupervised local center of mass(LCM)segmentation method and deep Siamese Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)is presented.First-order statistics and the GLCM matrix are used to extract KOA anatomical Features from segmented images. The network is trained on our clinical data with 75 iterations with automaticweight updates to improve its validation accuracy. The assessment performed on the LCM segmented KOA images shows that our network can efficiently detect knee osteoarthritis, achieving about 93.2%accuracy along with multi-class classification accuracy of 72.01%and quadratic weighted Kappa of 0.86. | Mohamed Yacin Sikkandar S.Sabarunisha Begum Abdulaziz AAlkathiry Mashhor Shlwan NAlotaibi Md Dilsad Manzar | 2022 | Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,3: | 0
