| 1 | Meningeal lymphatic vessels regulate brain tumor drainage and immunity显示文摘Recent studies have shown that meningeal lymphatic vessels(MLVs),which are located both dorsally and basally beneath the skull,provide a route for draining macromolecules and trafficking immune cells from the central nervous system(CNS)into cervical lymph nodes(CLNs),and thus represent a potential therapeutic target for treating neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases.However,the roles of MLVs in brain tumor drainage and immunity remain unexplored.Here we show that dorsal MLVs undergo extensive remodeling in mice with intracranial gliomas or metastatic melanomas.RNA-seq analysis of MLV endothelial cells revealed changes in the gene sets involved in lymphatic remodeling,fluid drainage,as well as inflammatory and immunological responses.Disruption of dorsal MLVs alone impaired intratumor fluid drainage and the dissemination of brain tumor cells to deep CLNs(dCLNs).Notably,the dendritic cell(DC)trafficking from intracranial tumor tissues to dCLNs decreased in mice with defective dorsal MLVs,and increased in mice with enhanced dorsal meningeal lymphangiogenesis.Strikingly,disruption of dorsal MLVs alone,without affecting basal MLVs or nasal LVs,significantly reduced the efficacy of combined anti-PD-1/CTLA-4 checkpoint therapy in striatal tumor models.Furthermore,mice bearing tumors overexpressing VEGF-C displayed a better response to anti-PD-1/CTLA-4 combination therapy,and this was abolished by CCL21/CCR7 blockade,suggesting that VEGF-C potentiates checkpoint therapy via the CCL21/CCR7 pathway.Together,the results of our study not only demonstrate the functional aspects of MLVs as classic lymphatic vasculature,but also highlight that they are essential in generating an efficient immune response against brain tumors. | Xueting Hu Qiuping Deng Lu Ma Qingqing Li Yidong Chen Yuhan Liao Fan Zhou Chen Zhang Linlin Shao Jun Feng Tubao He Weihai Ning Yan Kong Yingqing Huo Aibin He Bing Liu Jingjing Zhang Ralf Adams Yulong He Fuchou Tang Xiuwu Bian Jincai Luo | 2020 | Cell Research2020,30,3: | 11 |

| 5 | Major reactive species of ambient volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their sources in Beijing显示文摘Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are important precursors of atmospheric chemical processes. As a whole mixture, the ambient VOCs show very strong chemical reactivity. Based on OH radical loss rates in the air, the chemical reactivity of VOCs in Beijing was calculated. The results revealed that alkenes, accounting for only about 15% in the mixing ratio of VOCs, provide nearly 75% of the reactivity of ambient VOCs and the C4 to C5 alkenes were the major reactive species among the alkenes. The study of emission characteristics of various VOCs sources indicated that these alkenes are mainly from vehicle exhaust and gasoline evaporation. | 6 | World’s first spaceflight on-orbit demonstration of a flexible solar array system based on shape memory polymer composites显示文摘With a 10%reversible compressive strain in more than 10 deformation cycles,the shape memory polymer composites(SMPCs)could be used for deployable structure and releasing mechanism.In this paper,without traditional electro-explosive devices or motors/controllers,the deployable SMPC flexible solar array system(SMPC-FSAS)is studied,developed,ground-based tested,and finally on-orbit validated.The epoxy-based SMPC is used for the rolling-out variable-stiffness beams as a structural frame as well as an actuator for the flexible blanket solar array.The releasing mechanism is primarily made of the cyanate-based SMPC,which has a high locking stiffness to withstand 50 g gravitational acceleration and a large unlocking displacement of 10 mm.The systematical mechanical and thermal qualification tests of the SMPC-FSAS flight hardware were performed,including sinusoidal sweeping vibration,shocking,acceleration,thermal equilibrium,thermal vacuum cycling,and thermal cycling test.The locking function of the SMPC releasing mechanisms was in normal when launching aboard the SJ20 Geostationary Satellite on 27 Dec.,2019.The SMPC-FSAS flight hardware successfully unlocked and deployed on 5 Jan.,2020 on geostationary orbit.The triggering signal of limit switches returned to ground at the 139 s upon heating,which indicated the successful unlocking function of SMPC releasing mechanisms.A pair of epoxy-based SMPC rolled variable-stiffness tubes,which clapped the flexible blanket solar array,slowly deployed and finally approached an approximate 100%shape recovery ratio within 60 s upon heating.The study and on-orbit successful validation of the SMPC-FSAS flight hardware could accelerate the related study and associated productions to be used for the next-generation releasing mechanisms as well as space deployable structures,such as new releasing mechanisms with low-shocking,testability and reusability,and ultra-large space deployable solar arrays. | LAN Xin LIU LiWu ZHANG FengHua LIU ZhengXian WANG LinLin LI QiFeng PENG Fan HAO SiDa DAI WenXu WAN Xue TANG Yong WANG Mian HAO YanYan YANG Yang YANG Cheng LIU YanJu LENG JinSong | 2020 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,8: | 7 |
| 7 | Seasonal and Interannual Variations of Carbon Exchange over a Rice–Wheat Rotation System on the North China Plain显示文摘Rice–wheat(R–W) rotation systems are ubiquitous in South and East Asia,and play an important role in modulating the carbon cycle and climate. Long-term,continuous flux measurements help in better understanding the seasonal and interannual variation of the carbon budget over R–W rotation systems. In this study,measurements of CO2 fluxes and meteorological variables over an R–W rotation system on the North China Plain from 2007 to 2010 were analyzed. To analyze the abiotic factors regulating Net Ecosystem Exchange(NEE),NEE was partitioned into gross primary production(GPP) and ecosystem respiration. Nighttime NEE or ecosystem respiration was controlled primarily by soil temperature,while daytime NEE was mainly determined by photosythetically active radiation(PAR). The responses of nighttime NEE to soil temperature and daytime NEE to light were closely associated with crop development and photosynthetic activity,respectively. Moreover,the interannual variation in GPP and NEE mainly depended on precipitation and PAR. Overall,NEE was negative on the annual scale and the rotation system behaved as a carbon sink of 982 g C m-2per year over the three years. The winter wheat field took up more CO2 than the rice paddy during the longer growing season,while the daily NEE for wheat and rice were-2.35and-3.96 g C m-2,respectively. | 9 | The LRXs-RALFs-FER module controls plant growth and salt stress responses by modulating multiple plant hormones显示文摘Salt stress is a major environmental factor limiting plant growth and productivity.We recently discovered an important new salt tolerance pathway,where the cell wall leucine-rich repeat extensins LRX3/4/5,the RAPID ALKALINIZATION FACTOR(RALF)peptides RALF22/23 and receptor-like kinase FERONIA(FER)function as a module to simultaneously regulate plant growth and salt stress tolerance.However,the intracellular signaling pathways that are regulated by the extracellular LRX3/4/5-RALF22/23-FER module to coordinate growth,cell wall integrity and salt stress responses are still unknown.Here,we report that the LRX3/4/5-RALF22/23-FER module negatively regulates the levels of jasmonic acid(JA),salicylic acid(SA)and abscisic acid(ABA).Blocking JA pathway rescues the dwarf phenotype of the lrx345 and fer-4mutants,while disruption of ABA biosynthesis suppresses the salt-hypersensitivity of these mutants.Many salt stress-responsive genes display abnormal expression patterns in the lrx345 and fer-4 mutants,as well as in the wild type plants treated with epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG),an inhibitor of pectin methylesterases,suggesting cell wall integrity as a critical factor that determines the expression pattern of stress-responsive genes.Production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)is constitutively increased in the lrx345 and fer-4mutants,and inhibition of ROS accumulation suppresses the salt-hypersensitivity of these mutants.Together,our work provides strong evidence that the LRX3/4/5-RALF22/23-FER module controls plant growth and salt stress responses by regulating hormonal homeostasis and ROS accumulation. | Chunzhao Zhao Wei Jiang Omar Zayed Xin Liu Kai Tang Wenfeng Nie Yali Li Shaojun Xie Yuan Li Tiandan Long Linlin Liu Yingfang Zhu Yang Zhao Jian-Kang Zhu | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,1: | 3 |

| 20 | Origins of black carbon from anthropogenic emissions and open biomass burning transported to Xishuangbanna, Southwest China显示文摘Black carbon(BC) has importance regarding aerosol composition, radiative balance, and human exposure. This study adopted a backward-trajectory approach to quantify the origins of BC from anthropogenic emissions(BCAn) and open biomass burning(BCBB) transported to Xishuangbanna in 2017. Haze months, between haze and clean months, and clean months in Xishuangbanna were defined according to daily PM_(2.5)concentrations of >75, 35–75, and<35 μg/m^(3), respectively. Results showed that the transport efficiency density(TED) of BC transported to Xishuangbanna was controlled by the prevailing winds in different seasons.The yearly contributions to the effective emission intensity of BCAnand BCBBtransported to Xishuangbanna were 52% and 48%, respectively. However, when haze occurred in Xishuangbanna, the average BCAnand BCBBcontributions were 23% and 77%, respectively. This suggests that open biomass burning(BB) becomes the dominant source in haze months. Myanmar, India, and Laos were the dominant source regions of BC transported to Xishuangbanna during haze months, accounting for 59%, 18%, and 13% of the total, respectively. Furthermore, India was identified as the most important source regions of BCAntransported to Xishuangbanna in haze months, accounting for 14%. The two countries making the greatest contributions to BCBBtransported to Xishuangbanna were Myanmar and Laos in haze months, accounting for 55% and 13%, respectively. BC emissions from Xishuangbanna had minimal effects on the results of the present study.
