| 1 | Application of Ordinary Kriging in Mapping Soil Organic Carbon in Zambia显示文摘The quantification of the pattern and spatial distribution of soil organic carbon(SOC) is fundamental to understand many ecosystem processes. This study aimed to apply ordinary kriging(OK) to model the spatial distribution of SOC in a selected part of Zambia. A total of 100 soil samples were collected from the study area and analyzed for SOC by determining soil oxidizable carbon using the Walkley-Black method. An automated fitting procedure was followed when modeling the spatial structure of the SOC data with the exponential semivariogram. The results indicated that the short range spatial dependence of SOC was strong with a nugget close to zero. The spatial autocorrelation was high to medium with a nugget to sill ratio of 0.25. The root mean square error of the predictions was 0.64, which represented 58.18% of the mean observed data for SOC. | 2 | Automatic landing system using neural networks and radio-technical subsystems显示文摘The paper focuses on the design of a new automatic landing system(ALS) in longitudinal plane; the new ALS controls the aircraft trajectory and longitudinal velocity. Aircraft control is achieved by means of a proportional-integral(PI) controller and the instrumental landing system– the first phase of landing(the glide slope) and a proportional-integral-derivative(PID) controller together with a radio-altimeter – the second phase of landing(the flare); both controllers modify the reference model associated with aircraft pitch angle. The control of the pitch angle and longitudinal velocity is performed by a neural network adaptive control system, based on the dynamic inversion concept, having the following as components: a linear dynamic compensator, a linear observer, reference models, and a Pseudo control hedging(PCH) block. | 4 | Perovskite type lanthanum manganite:Morpho-structural analysis and electrical investigations显示文摘Perovskite-type oxides of LaMnO_3 were synthesized by means of the sol-gel method, in the presence of citric acid as gelling agent. The precursors used were Mn(NO_3)_2·H_2O, La_2O_3, and NaOH,mixed in the stoichiometric ratio to obtain perovskite materials. The obtained gel was heat-treated at 400, 600 and 800 ℃ respectively, for 6 h. X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy were used to analyze the phase transformation as a function of temperature, and the Rietveld refinement was used in order to characterize the materials obtained structurally. The average crystallite size of the products was calculated from XRD data and the average particle size was measured from the TEM micrographs. | 5 | Modeling the role of public health education in Ebola virus disease outbreaks in Sudan显示文摘Public involvement in Ebola Virus Disease(EVD)prevention efforts is key to reducing disease outbreaks.Targeted education through practical health information to particular groups and sub-populations is crucial to controlling the disease.In this paper,we study the dynamics of Ebola virus disease in the presence of public health education with the aim of assessing the role of behavior change induced by health education to the dynamics of an outbreak.The power of behavior change is evident in two outbreaks of EVD that took place in Sudan only 3 years apart.The first occurrence was the first documented outbreak of EVD and produced a significant number of infections.The second outbreak produced far fewer cases,presumably because the population in the region learned from the first outbreak.We derive a system of ordinary differential equations to model these two contrasting behaviors.Since the population in Sudan learned from the first outbreak of EVD and changed their behavior prior to the second outbreak,we use data from these two instances of EVD to estimate parameters relevant to two contrasting behaviors.We then simulate a future outbreak of EVD in Sudan using our model that contains two susceptible populations,one being more informed about EVD.Our finding show how a more educated population results in fewer cases of EVD and highlights the importance of ongoing public health education. | Benjamin Levy Christina Edholm Orou Gaoue Roselyn Kaondera-Shava Moatlhodi Kgosimore Suzanne Lenhart Benjamin Lephodisa Edward Lungu Theresia Marijani Farai Nyabadza | 2017 | Infectious Disease Modelling2017,2,3: | 2 |
