| 1 | Blocking FSH inhibits hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis and reduces serum cholesterol显示文摘Menopause is associated with dyslipidemia and an increased risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease.The classic view assumes that the underlying mechanism of dyslipidemia is attributed to an insufficiency of estrogen.In addition to a decrease in estrogen, circulating follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)levels become elevated at menopause.In this study,we find that blocking FSH reduces serum cholesterol via inhibiting hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis.First,epidemiological results show that the serum FSH levels are positively correlated with the serum total cholesterol levels,even after adjustment by considering the effects of serum estrogen,in addition,the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia is significantly higher in peri-menopausal women than that in premenopausal women.Furthermore,we generated a mouse model of FSH elevation by intraperitoneally injecting exogenous FSH into ovariectomized (OVX)mice,in which a normal level of estrogen (E2)was maintained by exogenous supplementation. Consistently,the results indicate that FSH,independent of estrogen,increases the serum cholesterol level in this mouse model. | 2 | Bionic optimization research of soil cultivating component design显示文摘The basic biomechanical laws that apply to the clawed toes of animals with powerful digging abilities and the optimal bionic design of curved soil cultivating components with an analogous contour were researched in a novel way. First, the curvature and profile of the inside contour line of a field mouse’s clawed toe were analyzed. The finite element method (FEM) was then used to simulate the working process in order to study the changing characteristics of the working resistance of bionic soil- engag- ing surfaces and the stress field of the processed soil. A straight-line cultivating component was used for comparative analysis. In accordance with the simulation results, a series of soil cultivating com- ponents of varying design were manufactured. An indoor soil bin experiment was carried out to meas- ure their working resistance and validate the results of the FEM analysis. | 3 | Effect of tempering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of high boron white cast iron显示文摘The effect of different tempering temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of airquenched high boron white cast iron was studied.The results indicate that the high boron white cast iron comprises dendritic matrix and inter-dendritic M 2 B boride;and the matrix comprises martensite and pearlite.After quenching in the air,the matrix is changed into lath martensite;but only 1-μm-size second phase exists in the matrix.After tempering,another second phase of several tens of nanometers is found in the matrix,and the size and quantity increase with an increase in tempering temperature.The two kinds of second precipitation phase with different sizes in the matrix have the same chemical formula,but their forming stages are different.The precipitation phase with larger size forms during the austenitizing process,while the precipitation phase with smaller size forms during the tempering process.When tempered at different temperatures after quenching,the hardness decreases with an increase in the tempering temperature,but it increases a little at 450 ℃ due to the precipitation strengthening effect of the second phase,and it decreases greatly due to the martensite decomposition above 450 ℃.The impact toughness increases a little when tempered below 300 ℃,but it then decreases continuously owing to the increase in size and quantity of the secondary precipitate above 300 ℃.Considered comprehensively,the optimum tempering temperature is suggested at 300 ℃ to obtain a good combination of hardness and toughness. | Liu Zhongli Li Yanxiang Chen Xiang | 2012 | China Foundry2012,9,4: | 10 |
| 4 | High performance columnar-like Fe2O3@carbon composite anode via yolk@shell structural design显示文摘Conversion-type reaction anode materials with high specific capacity are attractive candidates to improve lithium ion batteries(LIBs), yet the rapid capacity fading and poor rate capability caused by drastic volume change and low electronic conductivity greatly hinder their practical applications. To circumvent these issues, the successful design of yolk@shell Fe2 O3@C hybrid composed of a columnar-like Fe2O3 core within a hollow cavity completely surrounded by a thin, self-supported carbon(C) shell is presented as an anode for high-performance LIBs. This yolk@shell structure allows each Fe2O3 core to swell upon lithiation without deforming the carbon shell. This preserves the structural and electrical integrity against pulverization, as revealed by in situ transmission electron microscopy(TEM) measurement. Benefiting from these structural advantages, the resulting electrode exhibits a high reversible capacity(1013 m Ah g-1 after80 cycles at 0.2 A g-1), outstanding rate capability(710 m Ah g-1 at 8 A g-1) and superior cycling stability(800 m Ah g-1 after 300 cycles at 4 A g-1). | 10 | Complete mitochondrial genome of the Japanese snapping shrimp Alpheus japonicus(Crustacea:Decapoda:Caridea):Gene rearrangement and phylogeny within Caridea显示文摘The complete sequence of the mitochondrial genome of the Japanese snapping shrimp Alpheus japonicus Miers(Crustacea:Decapoda:Caridea) is presented here.A comparative analysis based on the currently available mitochondrial genomic data revealed many previously unknown characteristics of the mitochondrial genomes of caridean shrimps.The A.japonicus mitochondrial genome is 16487 bp long and contains the typical set of 37 metazoan genes.The gene arrangements in the mitochondrial genomes of four previously studied carideans(Macrobrachium rosenbergii,M.nipponense,M.lanchesteri and Halocaridina rubra) were found to be identical to the pancrustacean ground pattern;thus,it was considered that gene rearrangements probably did not occur in the suborder Caridea.In the present study,a translocation of the trnE gene involving inversion was found in Alpheus mitochondrial genomes.This phenomenon has not been reported in any other crustacean mitochondrial genome that has been studied so far;however,the translocation of one transfer RNA gene(trnP or trnT) was reported in the mitochondrial genome of Exopalaemon carinicauda.When the ratios of the nonsynonymous and synonymous substitutions rates(Ka/Ks) for the 13 protein coding genes from two Alpheus species(A.japonicus and A.distinguendus) and three Macrobrachium species(M.rosenbergii,M.nipponense,M.lanchesteri) were calculated,the Ka/Ks values for all the protein coding genes in Alpheus and Macrobrachium mitochondrial genomes were found to be less than 1(between 0.0048 and 0.2057),indicating that a strong purification selection had occurred.The phylogenetic tree that was constructed based on the mitochondrial protein coding genes in the genomes of nine related species indicated that Palaemonidae and Alpheidae formed a monophyly and shared a statistically significant relationship,(Palaemonidae+Alpheidae)+Atyidae,at the family level. | SHEN Xin LI Xiao SHA ZhongLi YAN BinLun XU QiHua | 2012 | Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,7: | 3 |
| 11 | Puerarin accelerates neural regeneration after sciatic nerve injury显示文摘Puerarin is a natural isoflavone isolated from plants of the genus Pueraria and functions as a protector against cerebral ischemia. We hypothesized that puerarin can be involved in the repair of peripheral nerve injuries. To test this hypothesis, doses of 10, 5, or 2.5 mg/kg per day puerarin(8-(β-D-Glucopyranosyl-7-hydroxy-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one) were injected intraperitoneally into mouse models of sciatic nerve injury. Puerarin at the middle and high doses significantly up-regulated the expression of growth-associated protein 43 in the L4–6 segments of the spinal cord from mice at 1, 2, and 4 weeks after modeling, and reduced the atrophy of the triceps surae on the affected side and promoted the regeneration of nerve fibers of the damaged spinal cord at 8 weeks after injury. | 12 | Inhibition of free radical induced oxidative hemolysis of red blood cells by green tea polyphenols显示文摘The in vitro oxidative hemolysis of human red blood cells (RBC) was used as a model to study the free radical induced damage of biological membranes and the inhibitory effect of natural antioxidants. The hemolysis was induced by a water-soluble free radical initiator 2,2’-azo(2-asmidinopropane)dihydrochloride (AAPH) and inhibited by the principal polyphenolic components extracted from green tea leaves, i.e. (-)-epicatechin (EC), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), (-)-epicat-echin gallate (ECG), (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and gallic acid (GA). | 17 | Orchestrated cellular,biochemical,and biomechanical optimizations endow platelet-rich plasma-based engineered cartilage with structural and biomechanical recovery显示文摘Recently,biomaterials for cartilage regeneration has been intensively investigated.However,the development of scaffolds that capture regenerated cartilage with biomechanical and structural recovery has rarely been reported.To address this challenge,platelet-rich plasma(PRP)-based cartilage constructs with a well-orchestrated symphony of cellular,biochemical and biomechanical elements were prepared by simultaneously employing chondrogenic progenitor cells(CPCs)as a cell source,optimizing platelet concentration,and adding an enzyme-ion activator.It was shown that this triple-optimized PRP+CPC construct possessed increased biomechanical properties and suitable biochemical signals.The following in vitro study demonstrated that the triple-optimized PRP+CPC constructs generated cartilage-like tissue with higher expression levels of chondrogenic-specific markers,more deposition of cartilage-specific extracellular matrix(ECM),and greater biomechanical values than those of the other constructs.Twelve weeks after the construct was implanted in a cartilage defect in vivo,histological analysis,qPCR,and biomechanical tests collectively showed that the triple-optimized constructs yielded a more chondrocyte-like cell phenotype with a higher synthesis of Col-Ⅱand aggrecan.More importantly,the triple-optimized constructs facilitated cartilage regeneration with better biomechanical recovery than that of the other constructs.These results demonstrate the efficacy of the triple-optimization strategy and highlight the simplicity and potency of this PRP+CPC construct for cartilage regeneration. | Ketao Wang Ji Li Yuxing Wang Yaqiang Wang Yuanyuan Qin Fei Yang Mingzhu Zhang Heng Zhu Zhongli Li | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,11: | 2 |
