1Danshen: a phytochemical and pharmacological overview显示文摘Danshen, the dried root or rhizome of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., is a traditional and folk medicine in Asian countries, especially in China and Japan. In this review, we summarized the recent researches of Danshen in traditional uses and preparations, chemical constituents, pharmacological activities and side effects. A total of 201 compounds from Danshen have been reported, including lipophilic diterpenoids, water-soluble phenolic acids, and other constituents, which have showed various pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, anti-atherogenesis, and anti-diabetes. 2Observation and analysis of near-surface atmospheric aerosol optical properties in urban Beijing显示文摘Year-round measurements of the mass concentration and optical properties of fine aerosols(PM_(2.5)) from June 2009 to May 2010 at an urban site in Beijing were analyzed.The annual mean values of the PM_(2.5) mass concentration,absorption coefficient(Ab),scattering coefficient(Sc) and single scattering albedo(SSA)at 525 nm were 67±66μg/m^3,64 ±62 Mm^(-1),360 ±405 Mm^(-1) and 0.82 ±0.09,respectively.The bulk mass absorption efficiency and scattering efficiency of the PM_(2.5) at 525 nm were 0.78 m^2/g and 5.55 m^2/g,respectively.The Ab and Sc showed a similar diurnal variation with a maximum at night and a minimum in the afternoon,whereas SSA displayed an opposite diurnal pattern.Significant increases in the Ab and Sc were observed in pollution episodes caused by the accumulation of pollutants from both local and regional sources under unfavorable weather conditions.Aerosol loadings in dust events increased by several times in the spring,which had limited effects on the Ab and Sc due to the low absorption and scattering efficiency of dust particles.The frequency of haze days was the highest in autumn because of the high aerosol absorption and scattering under unfavorable weather conditions.The daily PM_(2.5)concentration should be controlled to a level lower than 64 μg/m^3 to prevent the occurrence of haze days according to its exponentially decreased relationship with visibility.Junshan Jing Yunfei Wu Jun Tao Huizheng Che Xiangao Xia Xiaochun Zhang Peng Yan Deming Zhao Leiming Zhang 2015Particuology2015,13,1:16
3Groundwater arsenic removal by coagulation using ferric(Ⅲ)sulfate and polyferric sulfate: A comparative and mechanistic study显示文摘Elevated arsenic(As) in groundwater poses a great threat to human health. Coagulation using mono- and poly-Fe salts is becoming one of the most cost-effective processes for groundwater As removal. However, a limitation comes from insufficient understanding of the As removal mechanism from groundwater matrices in the coagulation process, which is critical for groundwater treatment and residual solid disposal. Here, we overcame this hurdle by utilizing microscopic techniques to explore molecular As surface complexes on the freshly formed Fe flocs and compared ferric(III) sulfate(FS) and polyferric sulfate(PFS)performance, and finally provided a practical solution in As-geogenic areas. FS and PFS exhibited a similar As removal efficiency in coagulation and coagulation/filtration in a two-bucket system using 5 mg/L Ca(ClO)_2. By using the two-bucket system combining coagulation and sand filtration, 500 L of As-safe water(< 10 μg/L) was achieved during five treatment cycles by washing the sand layer after each cycle. Fe k-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure(XANES) and As k-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS) analysis of the solid residue indicated that As formed a bidentate binuclear complex on ferrihydrite, with no observation of scorodite or poorly-crystalline ferric arsenate. Such a stable surface complex is beneficial for As immobilization in the solid residue, as confirmed by the achievement of much lower leachate As(0.9 μg/L–0.487 mg/L)than the US EPA regulatory limit(5 mg/L). 4The roles of surfactant protein D during Aspergillus fumigatus infection in human corneal epithelial cells显示文摘AIM: To investigate roles of surfactant protein D (SP-D) and relative cytokines in human corneal epithelial(HCE) cells exposed to aspergillus fumigatus (AF) antigens.METHODS: HCE cells cultured in vitro with AF antigens and sampled at 0, 0.5, 1 hour, 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours. The expression of SP-D mRNA was evaluated by semiquantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).The expression of SP-D protein was shown by ELISA and immunocytochemistry SP methods. The expression of NF-κB and relative downstream cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-8 and IL-10 in supernatant fluid were measured by ELISA.RESULTS: SP-D mRNA and protein were detected in untreated HCE cells. The expression of SP-D and the relative downstream cytokines rose after being stimulated with AF antigens. SP-D mRNA began to rise at 0.5 hour and the most significantly peak was in 2 hours. The protein of SP-D in supernatant fluid had the same trend with mRNA. Immunocytochemistry of SP-D showed positive expression and gradually increased to 6 hours, and then the expression began to decline. NF-κB was activated after treated by AF antigens and the changes had correlation with SP-D. TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-8 and IL-10 began to rise after given AF antigens 1 hour and were 1.82, 1.43, 1.12 and 1.28 times higher than the untreated HCE cells separately. The expression of TNF-α and IL-1β reached the peak at 2 hours, separately 2.80 and 2.86 times than the untreated. The expression of IL-8 and IL-10 gradually increased with a time-dependent manner.CONCLUSION: HCE cells exists SP-D and it may play a significant role in pathogenesis of keratomycosis. AF may induce human corneal epithelial cells to express inflammatory cytokines via SP-D and NF-κB pathway. 6Boxb mediate BALB/c mice corneal inflammation through a TLR4/MyD88-dependent signaling pathway in Aspergillus fumigatus keratitis显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether high-mobility group box 1(HMGB1) Boxb exacerbates BALB/c mice corneal immune responses and inflammatory through the Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)/myeloid differentiation primary response 88(My D88)-dependent signaling pathway in Aspergillus fumigatus(A. fumigatus) keratitis.METHODS: The mice corneas were pretreated with phosphate buffer saline(PBS), Boxb before A. fumigatus infection. The abdominal cavity extracted macrophages were pretreated with PBS, Boxb, TLR4 inhibitor(CLI-095), Dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) separately before A. fumigatus hyphae stimulation. HMGB1 was detected in normal and infected mice corneas and macrophages by real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR), the TLR4, My D88, interleukin-1β(IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) were detected by Western blot and PCR.RESULTS: In BALB/c mice corneas, the expressions of TLR4, HMGB1, IL-1β, TNF-α were increased after A. fumigatus infection. While pretreatment with Boxb significantly increased the expressions of TLR4, HMGB1, My D88, IL-1β, TNF-α compared with PBS control after infection. In BALB/c mice abdominal cavity extracted macrophages, pretreatment with Boxb increased the expressions of TLR4, HMGB1, My D88, IL-1β, TNF-α, while pretreatment with CLI-095 and Boxb significantly decreased the expressions of TLR4, HMGB1, My D88, IL-1β, TNF-α. 7Two new species of Japalura(Squamata:Agamidae)from the Hengduan Mountain Range,China显示文摘Until recently,the agamid species,Japalura flaviceps,was recognized to have the widest geographic distribution among members of the genus occurring in China,from eastern Tibet to Shaanxi Province.However,recent studies restricted the distribution of J.flaviceps to the Dadu River valley only in northwestern Sichuan Province,suggesting that records of J.flaviceps outside the Dadu River valley likely represent undescribed diversity.During two herpetofaunal surveys in 2013 and 2015,eight and 12 specimens of lizards of the genus Japalura were collected from the upper Nujiang(=Salween)Valley in eastern Tibet,China,and upper Lancang(=Mekong)Valley in northwestern Yunnan,China,respectively.These specimens display a unique suite of diagnostic morphological characters.Our robust comparisons of phenotype reveal that these populations can be distinguished readily from J.flaviceps and all other recognized congeners.Herein,we describe the two Japalura lineages as new species,Japalura laeviventris sp.nov.and Japalura iadina sp.nov..In addition,we provide updated conservation assessments for the new species as well as imperiled congeners according to the IUCN criteria for classification,discuss the importance of color patterns in the diagnosis and description of species in the genus Japalura,and discuss directions for future taxonomic studies of the group.Kai WANG Ke JIANG Da-Hu ZOU Fang YAN Cameron D.SILER Jing CHE Kunming Institute of Zoology,Chinese Academy of Sciences Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and Department of Biology,University of Oklahoma Tibet University 2016Zoological Research2016,37,1:9

9Matrilineal History of the Rana longicrus Species Group(Rana,Ranidae,Anura) and the Description of a New Species from Hunan,southern China显示文摘Fieldwork in Jiemuxi National Nature Reserve,Hunan,China,discovered morphologically indistinguishable groups of brown frogs that bred at different,exclusive times of the year.A principal components analysis of morphometric data,molecular analyses,and the exclusive breeding season suggested the occurrence of two species.The population that breeds during the winter was found to be an undescribed species and was subsequently described as Rana jiemuxiensis sp.nov.The new cryptic species can be identified from its congeners at the same locality by having a different breeding season and a divergent DNA barcode.Six major lineages of brown frogs were resolved with high nodal support.Rana japonica,R.chaochiaoensis,R.omeimontis,and R.jiemuxiensis have independent maternal lineages.Rana hanlunica and R.maoershanensis have essentially identical maternal lineages and they appear to represent the same species.The validity of the species R.longicrus,R.zhenhaiensis,and R.culaiensis and their genealogical relationships are not resolved and deserve further study.The genealogy indicates that sympatric cryptic lineages probably widely exist in the R.longicrus group.This highlights the importance of future more fine-scaled samplings and the inclusion of nuclear genes.Fang YAN Ke JIANG Hongman CHEN Ping FANG Jieqiong JIN Yi LI Shaoneng WANG Robert W.MURPHY Jing CHE Yaping ZHANG 2011Asian Herpetological Research2011,2,2:8

11Effects of COX-2 inhibitor NS-398 on IL-10 expression in rat fungal keratitis显示文摘·AIM:To investigate the expression of interleukin-10 (IL-10) and the effect of NS-398(COX-2 inhibitor) on the expression of IL-10 in fungal keratitis in rats,and analyze its effects on anti-fungus immunity.·METHODS:Ninety Wister rats were randomly divided into 3 groups.Group A was blank control group (10 eyes).Group B was fungal keratitis group (40 eyes).Group C was fungal keratitis group treated with NS-398 (40 eyes).PAS staining,100g/L potassium hydroxide (KOH) smear and fungal culture confirmed the successful establishment of fungal keratitis model.After the central epithelium was scraped,Fusarium solani colonies were applied and contact lens was put on the right cornea of group B and C,and plane contact lens was put on the left cornea of control eyes.Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) eyedrops were given for group B and NS-398 eyedrops for group C.The expression of IL-10 on corneas of group B and C on the 1st day,3rd days,7th days,and 14th days were detected by immunohistochemistry and semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).·RESULTS:Histopathologic examination showed neutrophil infiltration and severe tissue necrosis in ulcer cornea.PAS staining confirmed the existence of hyphae and spores in the superficial layer of stroma.In the blank and control groups almost no expression of IL-10 was detected at any observing points.In group B the expression of IL-10 increased at first and decreased thereafter.Its expression also showed significant difference at any observing points (P£?0.01).Compared with group B,the expression of IL-10 in group C showed no difference on the 1stday,decrease on the 3rd day,but a significant increase on the 7th day and 14th day.·CONCLUSION:IL-10 takes part in the occurrence and development of fungal keratitis.NS-398 can upgrade the expression of IL-10 in fungal keratitis in the later period of the ulcer.Meanwhile,pathologic observation showed a slightly corneal opacity.IL-10 may play an important role in the process of cornea anti-damage repair.·Na Li Cheng-Ye Che Li-Ting Hu Jing Lin Qing Wang and Gui-Qiu Zhao 2011International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2011,4,2:7
12Phylogenetic Relationships of the Genus Paramesotriton(Caudata: Salamandridae) with the Description of a New Species from Qixiling Nature Reserve, Jiangxi, Southeastern China and a Key to the species显示文摘The matrilineal genealogy of the genus Paramesotriton is hypothesized based on DNA sequences from mitochondrial NADH subunit two(ND2) and its flanking tRNAs(tRNATrp and a partial tRNAAla). The genealogy identifies a highly divergent, unnamed lineage from Qixiling Nature Reserve, Jiangxi, China and places it as the sister taxon of P. chinensis. The newly discovered population differs from other congeners by several features of external morphology including having large clusters of dark brown conical warts on the dorsum of the head, lateral surface of the body and dorsolateral ridges. Its intermittent dorsal vertebral ridge is the same color as other parts of the dorsum and tail narrows gradually from the base to the tip. Further, the new population differs from all congeners by an uncorrected P-distance of more than 9.38% in ND2. 15Expression of dectin-1 during fungus infection in human corneal epithelial cells显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the expression of dendritic cell-associated C-type lectin-1(dectin-1) in human corneal epithelial(HCE) cells infected by fungus. · METHODS: A total of 20 cases of healthy donor corneas were group A,and 20 patients(20 eyes) suffered from fungal keratitis(FK) composed group B. Real-time qPCR and immunohistochemistry were applied to detect dectin-1 expression in corneal epithelium of both groups. HCE cells were cultured with aspergillus fumigatus(AF) antigens in vitro. The expression of dectin-1 mRNA was measured by real-time qPCR at the stimulation of 0,4,8 and 24h separately. Dectin-1 protein was detected by immunocytochemistry at 0 and 24h separately. ·RESULTS: Dectin-1 expressed in corneal epithelium of normal persons and FK patients. Vitro cellular experiment showed that the expression of dectin-1 mRNA in HCE cells began to increase after stimulation of AF antigens at 4h,and dectin-1 protein expression increased after stimulation at 24h. · CONCLUSION: Dectin-1 expressed in corneal epithelium of normal persons. 16Comparison of Histological, Microbiological, and Molecular Methods in Diagnosis of Patients with TBLN Having Different Anti-TB Treatment Background显示文摘Objective The influence of anti-tuberculosis(TB) treatment history on tuberculous lymphadenitis(TBLN) diagnosis is unclear. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the diagnostic methods, including histology, microbiology, and molecular tests, used for TBLN. Methods In this study, suspected patients with TBLN and having different anti-TB treatment background were enrolled. All the samples were tested simultaneously by histology, Ziehl-Neelsen(ZN) staining, mycobacterial culture(culture), Xpert MTB/RIF(xpert), real-time PCR, and high-resolution melting curve PCR(HRM). Thereafter, the performance of these methods on samples with different anti-TB treatment background was assessed. Results In our study, 89 patients were prospectively included 82 patients with TBLN and 7 with other diseases. The overall sensitivities of Xpert, real-time PCR, histology, ZN staining, and culture were 86.6%, 69.5%, 58.5%, 43.9%, and 22.0%, respectively. The anti-TB treatment history revealed dramatic influences on the sensitivity of culture(P < 0.0001). In fact, the treatment that lasted over 3 months also influenced the sensitivity of Xpert(P < 0.05). However, the treatment history did not affect the performance of remaining tests(P > 0.05). For rifampicin drug susceptibility test(DST), the anti-TB treatment showed only significant influence on the success rate of culture DST(P = 0.001), but not on those of Xpert and HRM tests(P > 0.05). 17Discovery of Japalura chapaensis Bourret, 1937 (Reptilia: Squamata: Agamidae) from Southeast Yunnan Province, China显示文摘Due to a paucity of surveys in northern Indochina and lack of international collaborations among neighboring countries, recognized distributional ranges for many amphibian and reptile species end at the political borders for some countries, despite seemingly continuous suitable habitat spanning the region. Combining both morphological and genetic data, we report the first discovery of Japalura chapaensis, a rare agamid lizard believed previously to be endemic to northern Vietnam only, along the border region of southeastern Yunnan Province,China. 18Characteristics of ocular abnormalities in gout patients显示文摘AIM: To characterize the clinical features of ocular surface in gout patients in coastal area of Shandong Province in China. ·METHODS: A total of 380 consecutive gout patients were examined from January 2011 to May 2011. According to the course of gout, patients were divided into group A (<5 years), B (5 -10 years) and C (>10 years). Group D (control group) was consist of 50 healthy subjects. Eyelids, lateral canthus, medial canthus, palpebral conjunctiva, sclera and cornea, anterior chamber, lens, anterior vitreous were examined by slit lamp to find whether there were deposition of uric acid crystals, ocular vascular tortuosity, redness and subconjunctival hemorrhage. The ophthalmic exams of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, fundus were used to assess any gout-related eye disease. ·RESULTS: Uric acid crystals were found in 3 patients and the positions of the deposite were in corneal stroma, corneal epithelium and superficial stroma, and sclera respectively. The incidence was 0.79% . Dilatated and tortuous blood vessels in conjunctiva and sclera surface were found in 38 (23.8% ), 40 (44.0% ), 58 (45.0% ), 9 (18.0% ) patients in groups A, B, C and D, respectively. The differences between group B and D, group C and D were statistically significant(P <0.01, P <0.01).Transparent vesicles with metal-like reflected light in subconjunctiva were seen in 26 (16.2%), 29 (31.9%), 41 (31.8%), 2 (4.00%) patients in groups A, B, C and D, respectively. The differences between A and D, B and D, C and D were statistically significant (P <0.05, P <0.01, P <0.01). Subconjunctival hemorrhage was found in all groups, the difference among the four groups showed no statistically significance. · CONCLUSION: Gout can cause ocular surface abnormalities, such as tophi deposition, subconjunctival transparent vesicles and hemorrhage, and vascularchanges. 19Sensory and chemical assessment of silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus) treated with Ginkgo biloba leaf extract treatment during storage in ice显示文摘This study investigated the physical(L*,a*,b*,texture profile analyses,pH),chemical(TVB-N,K value and TBA),microbiological,amino acid content,and flavor effects that Gingko biloba leaf extract(GBLE)had on silver pomfret(Pampus argenteus)stored at 4±1C in ice for 18 days.Fresh pomfret samples were obtained directly from the local fish market and transported to the laboratory with ice immediately.After being gutted,washed,filleted and trimmed in a water-ice mixture,samples were treated with different concentrations of GBLE(0.0 mg/mL,2.5 mg/mL,5.0 mg/mL,10.0 mg/mL)and packaged in Polyethylene bag,then stored in a refrigerator at 4±1C with ice.The results show that the shelf-life of untreated(0.0 mg/mL)pomfret samples was 8e9 days compared to 14e15 days for the GBLE1(2.5 mg/mL)treated group.The assessment results showed that different concentrations of GBLE had variable effects on preserving the texture parameters of acceptability limit,inhibit lipid oxidation,protein degradation,and microorganism growth.2.5 mg/mL of GBLE was the best for the preservation of pomfret during storage in ice.Therefore,there is potential use for GBLE as a preservative to extend the shelf-life of pomfret during chilled storage in ice.Weiqing Lan Xu Che Qiaoling Xu Ting Wang Ruoyuan Du Jing Xie Min Hou Han Lei 2018Aquaculture and Fisheries2018,3,1:5
20Effect of corneal graft diameter on therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty for fungal keratitis显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effect of corneal graft diameter on therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty(PKP) for fungal keratitis. METHODS: A total of 116 patients (116 eyes) suffered from fungal keratitis underwent PKP at the Affiliated Hospital of Medical College Qingdao University from May 2006 to May 2010. They were divided into two groups according to the corneal graft diameter. 64 eyes' corneal graft diameter was 8.00mm or larger and 52 eyes' graft diameter was smaller than 8.00mm. The follow-up time was 2 years. The postoperative visual acuity and complications were documented and compared. RESULTS: Sixty-two (96.88%) eyes and fifty (96.15%) eyes preserved eyeballs respectively in two groups. There was no statistical difference in postoperative visual acuity (P =0.961), corneal graft clear rate (P =0.132) or the incidence of recurred fungal infection (P =0.770) between two groups. But there was a higher incidence of graft rejection (P =0.020) and secondary glaucoma (P =0.039) in group with corneal graft diameter 8.00mm or larger. CONCLUSION: PKP is an effective treatment approach for fungal keratitis.
