| 2 | Unexpected complication of arteriovenous fistula of the left common carotid to internal jugular vein following central venous catheterization显示文摘Incidence of inadvertent arterial puncture secondary to central venous catheter insertion is not common with an arterial puncture rate of<1%.This is due to the advancements and wide availability of ultrasound to guide its insertion.Formation of arteriovenous fistula after arterial puncture is an unexpected complication.Till date,only five cases(including this case)of acquired arteriovenous fistula formation has been described due to inadvertent common carotid puncture.The present case is a 26-year-old man sustained traumatic brain injuries,chest injuries and multiple bony fractures.During resuscitative phase,attempts at left central venous catheter via left internal jugular vein under ultrasound guidance resulted in inadvertent puncture into the left common carotid artery.Surgical neck exploration revealed that the catheter had punctured through the left internal jugular vein into the common carotid artery with formation of arteriovenous fistula.The catheter was removed successfully and common carotid artery was repaired.Postoperatively,the patient recovered and clinic visits revealed no neurological deficits.From our literature review,the safest method for removal is via endovascular and open surgical removal.The pull/push technique(direct removal with compression)is not recommended due to the high risk for stroke,bleeding and hematoma formation. | Tan Chor Lip Henry Tan Jih Huei Mohamad Yuzaidi Lenny Suryani Safri K.Krishna Imran Alwi Rizal Md Idris Mohamad Azim Hanafiah Harunarashid | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2020,23,1: | 5 |
| 3 | Acid Blue 25 adsorption on base treated Shorea dasyphylla sawdust:Kinetic,isotherm,thermodynamic and spectroscopic analysis显示文摘The potential of base treated Shorea dasyphylla(BTSD) sawdust for Acid Blue 25(AB 25) adsorption was investigated in a batch adsorption process.Various physiochemical parameters such as pH,stirring rate,dosage,concentration,contact time and temperature were studied.The adsorbent was characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer,scanning electron microscope and Brunauer,Emmett and Teller analysis.The optimum conditions for AB 25 adsorption were pH 2,stirring rate 500 r/min,adsorbent dosage 0.10 g and contact time 60 min.The pseudo second-order model showed the best conformity to the kinetic data.The equilibrium adsorption of AB 25 was described by Freundlich and Langmuir,with the latter found to agree well with the isotherm model.The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of BTSD was 24.39 mg/g at 300 K,estimated from the Langmuir model.Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy,enthalpy and entropy were determined.It was found that AB 25 adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic. | Megat Ahmad Kamal Megat Hanafiah Wan Saime Wan Ngah Shahira Hilwani Zolkafly Lee Ching Teong Zafri Azran Abdul Majid | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,2: | 3 |

| 5 | Sequestration of toxic Pb(Ⅱ) ions by chemically treated rubber(Hevea brasiliensis) leaf powder显示文摘Rubber leaf powder(an agricultural waste) was treated with potassium permanganate followed by sodium carbonate and its performance in the removal of Pb(Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solution was evaluated.The interactions between Pb(Ⅱ) ions and functional groups on the adsorbent surface were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM) coupled with X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDX).The effects of several important parameters which can affect adsorption capacity such as pH,adsorbent dosage,initial lead concentration and contact time were studied.The optimum pH range for lead adsorption was 4-5.Even at very low adsorbent dosage of 0.02 g,almost 100% of Pb(Ⅱ) ions(23 mg/L) could be removed.The adsorption capacity was also dependent on lead concentration and contact time,and relatively a short period of time(60-90 min) was required to reach equilibrium.The equilibrium data were analyzed with Langmuir,Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms.Based on Langmuir model,the maximum adsorption capacity of lead was 95.3 mg/g.Three kinetic models including pseudo first-order,pseudo second-order and Boyd were used to analyze the lead adsorption process,and the results showed that the pseudo second-order fitted well with correlation coefficients greater than 0.99. | Megat Hanafiah Megat Ahmad Kamal Wan Mat Khalir Wan Khaima Azira Mohamed Kasmawati Zakaria Haslizaidi Wan Ngah Wan Saime | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,2: | 3 |
| 6 | Ethnicity association of Helicobacter pylori virulence genotype and metronidazole susceptibility显示文摘AIM:To characterise the cag pathogenicity island in Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) isolates by analysing the strains' vacA alleles and metronidazole susceptibilities in light of patient ethnicity and clinical outcome.METHODS:Ninety-five H.pylori clinical isolates obtained from patients with dyspepsia living in Malaysia were analysed in this study.Six genes in the cagPAI region(cagE,cagM,cagT,cag13,cag10 and cag67) andvacA alleles of theH.pylori isolates were identified by polymerase chain reaction.The isolates' metronidazole susceptibility was also determined using the E-test method,and the resistant gene was characterised by sequencing.RESULTS:More than 90% of the tested isolates had at least one gene in the cagPAI region,and cag67 was predominantly detected in the strains isolated from the Chinese patients,compared with the Malay and Indian patients(P < 0.0001).The majority of the isolates(88%) exhibited partial deletion(rearrangement) in the cagPAI region,with nineteen different patterns observed.Strains with intact or deleted cagPAI regions were detected in 3.2% and 8.4% of isolates,respectively.The prevalence of vacA s1m1 was significantly higher in the Malay and Indian isolates,whereas the isolates from the Chinese patients were predominantly genotyped as vacA s1m2(P = 0.018).Additionally,the isolates from the Chinese patients were more sensitive to metronidazole than the isolates from the Malay and Indian patients(P = 0.047).Although we attempted to relate the cagPAI genotypes,vacA alleles and metronidazole susceptibilities to disease outcome,no association was observed.The vacA alleles were distributed evenly among the strains with intact,partially deleted or deleted cagPAI regions.Interestingly,the strains exhibiting an intact cagPAI region were sensitive to metronidazole,whereas the strains with a deleted cagPAI were more resistant.CONCLUSION:Successful colonisation by different H.pylori genotypes is dependent on the host's genetic makeup and may play an important role in the clinical outcome. | Hanafiah Alfizah Awang Hamat Rukman Ahmad Norazah Razlan Hamizah Mohamed Ramelah | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,8: | 2 |
