| 1 | Microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-5Li-1Al sheets prepared by accumulative roll bonding显示文摘Ultrafine-grain and high-strength Mg-5Li-1Al sheets were prepared by accumulative roll bonding(ARB)process. Evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of ARB-processed Mg-5Li-1Al sheets was investigated.Results show that, during ARB process, the evolution of deformation mechanism of t Mg-5Li-1Al alloy is as follows: twinning deformation, shear deformation, forming macro shear zone, and finally dynamic recrystallization(DRX). The grain refining mechanism changes from twin DRX to rotation DRX. With the increase in ARB cycles, strength of the Mg-5Li-1Al sheets is enhanced, whilst elongation varies slightly.With the increase in rolling cycles, anisotropy of mechanical properties decreases. | 3 | Outcomes of mobile bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in medial osteoarthritis knee with and without preoperative genu recurvatum显示文摘AIM To compare clinical outcomes of patients with and without preoperative genu recurvatum(GR) following mobile bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(UKA). METHODS We prospectively followed 176 patients for at least 24 mo who had been treated by unilateral, minimally invasive, Oxford UKA. Patients with medial osteoarthritis(OA) knee and preoperative GR(Group Ⅰ) accounted for 18%(n = 32) and patients without preoperative GR(Group Ⅱ) accounted for the remaining 82%(n = 144). Knee score, pain scores, and functional scores were assessed for each patient and compared between the two groups. The incidence of postoperative GRand the postoperative hyperextension angles also were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS The pain score, knee score and functional score were not significantly different between the two groups. Similarly, the incidence of postoperative GR and the measured hyperextension angles were not significantly different between the two groups. The incidence of postoperative GR was 1/32(3.12%) in Group Ⅰ and 1/144(0.69%) in Group Ⅱ(P = 0.34). The mean postoperative hyperextension angles were 2.40°± 2.19°(range: 1°-7°) for Group Ⅰ and 1.57°± 3.51°(range: 1°-6°) for Group Ⅱ(P = 0.65).CONCLUSION Medial OA of the knee and concomitant GR is not a contraindication for the mobile bearing UKA. | Boonchana Pongcharoen Krit Boontanapibul | 2018 | World Journal of Orthopedics2018，9，9： | 8 |
| 4 | Influence of Voltage on the Corrosion and Wear Resistance of MicroArc Oxidation Coating on Mg-8Li-2Ca Alloy显示文摘Calcium phosphate(CaP) coatings were prepared on Mg–8Li–2Ca magnesium alloy by micro-arc oxidation(MAO) in an alkaline Na_3PO_4–Ca[C_3H_7O_6P] base solution at the different applied voltages. Scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction were employed to characterize the microstructure and phase composition of the coatings, respectively. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was assessed by potential dynamic polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and hydrogen evolution experiment in simulated body fluids solution. The friction and wear properties were evaluated by friction and wear testing machine. The results demonstrate that the coating surface is porous and mainly composed of MgO, Ca_5(PO_4)_3(OH) and CaH_2P_2O_5. With the increase in voltage, the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the MAO coating are both enhanced. The corrosion current density of the MAO coating decreases about two orders of the magnitude compared to the substrate. | 6 | Ethnic variations in ulcerative colitis: Experience of an international hospital in Thailand显示文摘AIM: To investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment, medication use, and treatment response in patients with ulcerative colitis(UC) across ethnic groups.METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed medical records of all 268465 patients who visited the Bumrungrad International Digestive Disease Center during 2005-2010. The demographics, clinical characteristics, medication use, results of investigations, and medical and surgical management for patients with UC were evaluated. Evaluation included sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy performed in compliance with the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy practice guidelines. Patient ethnicities were categorized into seven groups: Thai, Oriental, South Asian(SA), Middle Eastern(ME), Caucasian, African, and Hispanic. UC pathological severity was classified into inactive, mild, moderate, and severe. Associations between categorical variables were analyzed using the χ2 or Fischer's exact test. Associations between categorical and interval variables were analyzed usingStudent's t-test and/or analysis of covariance.RESULTS: UC was diagnosed in 371 of the 268465 patients: male 56.33%; ME 42%, Caucasian 23%, and Thai 19%. Annual incidence of UC was 82 cases per 100000 with wide ethnic variation, ranging from 29 to 206 cases per 100000 in Oriental and ME patients, respectively. Of the patients with UC, 16.71% had severe UC with highest incidence among the patients from ME(20.39%) and lowest among the Caucasian population(11.90%). ME had highest proportion of pancolitis(52.90%), followed by Caucasian(45.35%) and Asian(34.40%). Only 20.93% of Caucasian patients received steroid, compared with 26.40% and 27.10% of Asian and Middle Eastern, respectively(P = 0.732). Overall, 13.72% of UC patients did not respond to steroid therapy, with non-significantly higher proportions of non-responders among Asian and Middle Eastern patients(15.22% and 15.04%, respectively)(P = 0.781). On average, 5.93% underwent surgical management with ethnic variation, ranging from 0% in African to 18% in SA.
