| 1 | Prevalence of clonorchiasis in patients with gastrointestinal disease: A Korean nationwide multicenter survey显示文摘AIM: To investigate prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, and the relation of the infection to hepatobiliary diseases in 26 hospitals in Korea.METHODS: Consecutive patients who had been admitted to the Division of Gastroenterology with gastrointestinal symptoms were enrolled from March to April 2005. Of those who had been diagnosed with clonorchiasis, epidemiology and correlation between infection and hepatobiliary diseases were surveyed by questionnaire.RESULTS: Of 3080 patients with gastrointestinal diseases, 396 (12.9%) had clonorchiasis and 1140 patients (37.2%) had a history of eating raw freshwater fish. Of those with a history of raw freshwater fish ingestion, 238 (20.9%) patients had clonorchiasis. Cholangiocarcinoma was more prevalent in C. sinensis-infected patients than non-infected patients [34/396 (8.6%) vs 145/2684 (5.4%), P = 0.015]. Cholangiocarcinoma and clonorchiasis showed statistically significant positive cross-relation (P = 0.008). Choledocholithiasis, cholecystolithiasis, cholangitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and biliary pancreatitis did not correlate with clonorchiasis.CONCLUSION: Infection rate of clonorchiasis was still high in patients with gastrointestinal diseases in Korea, and has not decreased very much during the last two decades. | 2 | Change in subfoveal choroidal thickness after argon laser panretinal photocoagulation显示文摘AIM:To evaluate changes in subfoveal choroidal thickness(SFCT) and macular thickness as measured by enhanced depth imaging spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(EDI-OCT) after argon laser panretinal photocoagulation(PRP) in patients with severe diabetic retinopathy.·METHODS:This prospective,comparative case series included 21 patients(28 eyes) with severe diabetic retinopathy.All patients underwent three sessions of PRP.The SFCT and macular thickness were measured using EDI-OCT at baseline and one week after completion of 3 sessions of PRP.·RESULTS:SFCT before PRP was(318.1±96.5)μm and increased to(349.9 ±108.3)μm(P =0.001) after PRP.Macular thickness significantly increased at one week after PRP(from 273.1 ±23.9μm at baseline vs 295.8 ±25.3μm at one week;P <0.001).No significant relationship between the changes in macular thickness and SFCT was observed(r =-0.13,P =0.52).·CONCLUSION:PRP induced increases in both SFCT and macular thickness.Changes in SFCT did not correlate with changes in macular thickness. | Ga Eun Cho Hee Yun Cho Yun Taek Kim | 2013 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013，6，4： | 14 |
| 3 | Primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the appendix:A rare case report and our 18-year experience显示文摘Primary adenocarcinoma of the appendix is a rare ma-lignancy that constitutes < 0.5% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. Moreover, primary signet ring cell carci-noma of the appendix is an exceedingly rare entity. We have encountered 15 cases of primary appendiceal cancer among 3389 patients who underwent appen-dectomy over the past 18 years. In the present report, we describe a rare case of primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the appendix with ovarian metastases and unresectable peritoneal dissemination occurring in a 67-year-old female patient. She underwent ap-pendectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with a laparoscopy procedure. She then received palliative systemic chemotherapy with 12 cycles of oxaliplatin, 5-flurorouracil, and leucovorin (FOLFOX-4). In this context, we present an overview of experimental achievements in laser plasma acceleration from the perspective of the production of GeV-level electron beams, and deduce the scaling formulas capable of predicting experimental results self-consistently, taking into account the propagation of a relativistic laser pulse through plasma and the accelerating field reduction due to beam loading.
