1Wnt and BMP signaling crosstalk in regulating dental stem cells:Implications in dental tissue engineering显示文摘Tooth is a complex hard tissue organ and consists of multiple cell types that are regulated by important signaling pathways such as Wnt and BMP signaling.Serious injuries and/or loss of tooth or periodontal tissues may significantly impact aesthetic appearance,essential oral functions and the quality of life.Regenerative dentistry holds great promise in treating oral/dental disorders.The past decade has witnessed a rapid expansion of our understanding of the biological features of dental stem cells,along with the signaling mechanisms governing stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.In this review,we first summarize the biological characteristics of seven types of dental stem cells,including dental pulp stem cells,stem cells from apical papilla,stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth,dental follicle precursor cells,periodontal ligament stem cells,alveolar bone-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),and MSCs from gingiva.We then focus on how these stem cells are regulated by bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)and/or Wnt signaling by examining the interplays between these pathways.Lastly,we analyze the current status of dental tissue engineering strategies that utilize oral/dental stem cells by harnessing the interplays between BMP and Wnt pathways.We also highlight the challenges that must be addressed before the dental stem cells may reach any clinical applications.Thus,we can expect to witness significant progresses to be made in regenerative dentistry in the coming decade.Fugui Zhang Jinlin Song Hongmei Zhang Enyi Huang Dongzhe Song Viktor Tollemar Jing Wang Jinhua Wang Maryam Mohammed Qiang Wei Jiaming Fan Junyi Liao Yulong Zou Feng Liu Xue Hu Xiangyang Qu Liqun Chen Xinyi Yu Hue H.Luu Michael J.Lee Tong-Chuan He Ping Ji 2016Genes & Diseases2016,3,4:16
2Exploratory Precipitation in North-Central China during the Past Four Centuries显示文摘Two robust precipitation reconstructions were conducted by combining tree-ring chronologies, dryness/wetness indices from historical documents, and climate data from the global grid. It was found that the recurrent drought history of a region can help us understand the variability of precipitation. Several dry/wet periods during the past four centuries and potential cycles of precipitation variation were determined. Furthermore, the reconstructions are not only consistent well with each other in North-central China, but also in good agreement with variations of precipitation in northeastern Mongolia, the Longxi area in Gangsu Province and the Dulan area of Qinghai Province, and the snow accumulation of the Guliya glacier. 3Mode-division multiplexed transmission of wavelength-division multiplexing signals over a 100-km single-span orbital angular momentum fiber显示文摘We experimentally demonstrate mode-division multiplexed(MDM)transmission using eight orbital angular momentum(OAM)modes over a single span of 100-km low-attenuation and low-crosstalk ring-core fiber(RCF).Each OAM mode channel carries 10 wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM)signal channels in the C band,with each WDM channel in turn transmitting 16-GBaud quadrature phase-shift keying signal.An aggregate capacity of 2.56 Tbit/s and an overall spectral efficiency of 10.24 bit/(s·Hz)are realized.The capacity-distance product of 256(Tbit/s)·km is the largest reported so far for OAM fiber communications systems to the best of our knowledge.Exploiting the low crosstalk between the OAM mode groups in the RCF,the scheme only requires the use of modular 4×4 multiple-input multiple-output processing,and it can therefore be scaled up in the number of MDM channels without increasing the complexity of signal processing.Junwei Zhang Junyi Liu Lei Shen Lei Zhang Jie Luo Jie Liu Siyuan Yu 2020Photonics Research2020,8,7:8
4Hard tissue stability after guided bone regeneration: a comparison between digital titanium mesh and resorbable membrane显示文摘Guided bone regeneration(GBR)uses resorbable and non-resorbable membranes as biological barriers.This study compared the differences in hard tissue stability between GBR using evidence-based digital titanium mesh and resorbable collagen membranes during implant placement.A total of 40 patients(65 implant sites)were enrolled and divided into two groups:resorbable membrane and digital titanium mesh groups.The alveolar bone was analyzed at two-and three-dimensional levels using conebeam computed tomography and by reconstructing and superimposing the hard tissues at four time points:preoperatively,postoperatively,before second-stage surgery,and 1 year after loading.The use of digital titanium mesh showed less alveolar bone resorption in vertical and horizontal directions two-dimensionally before the second-stage surgery and 1 year after loading.Regarding volumetric stability,the percentage of resorption after 6 months of healing with resorbable membrane coverage reached 37.5%.However,it was only 23.4%with titanium mesh.Although postoperative bone volume was greater at all labial sites with resorbable membrane than with digital titanium mesh,after substantial bone resorption within 1 year of loading,the labial bone thickness at the upper part of implants was thinner with resorbable membrane than with digital titanium mesh.Furthermore,digital titanium meshes made according to ideal bone arch contour reduced soft tissue irritation,and the exposure rate was only 10%.Therefore,although both resorbable membrane and digital titanium mesh in GBR were able to successfully reconstruct the bone defect,digital titanium meshes were better at maintaining the hard tissue volume in the osteogenic space.Songhang Li Junyi Zhao Yu Xie Taoran Tian Tianxu Zhang Xiaoxiao Cai 2021International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,4:8
5Expression of ipt gene driven by tomato fruit specific promoter and its effects on fruit development of tomato显示文摘Fruit specific promoter (2A12) from Lycopersi-com esculentum and cDNA of isopentenyl-transferase (ipt) from Ti plasmid of Agrobacterium tumerfaciens C58 were cloned by PCR procedure respectively. Two plant expression vectors with 2A12/gus or 2A12/ipt were respectively constructed. These two chimeric genes were transferred into tomato by Agrobacterium mediated procedure. The results of Southern hybridization showed that the fusion genes had been integrated into tomatoes. The result of gus histochemi-cal staining showed that 2A12 had high fruit specific expressive capability in transgenic tomato. The ipt expression resulted in accumulation of high level of cytokinins (CTKs) in fruit lead to developmental changes in fruits and seeds. The fruit of ipt transformed tomato had the hyperplastic placenta with very few seeds or even seedless. The shelf life of transgenic fruits elongated for 1-2 weeks. 7Exploration of presence/absence variation and corresponding polymorphic markers in soybean genome显示文摘This study was designed to reveal the genome‐wide distribution of presence/absence variation(PAV) and to establish a database of polymorphic PAV markers in soybean. The 33 soybean whole‐genome sequences were compared to each other with that of Williams 82 as a reference genome. A total of 33,127 PAVs were detected and 28,912 PAV markers with their primer sequences were designed as the database NJAUSoyPAV_1.0. The PAVs scattered on whole genome while only 518(1.8%) overlapped with simple sequence repeats(SSRs) in BARCSOYSSR_1.0database. In a random sample of 800 PAVs, 713(89.13%) showed polymorphism among the 12 differential genotypes. Using 126 PAVs and 108 SSRs to test a Chinese soybean germplasm collection composed of 828 Glycine soja Sieb. et Zucc. and Glycine max(L.) Merr. accessions, the per locus allele number and its variation appeared less in PAVs than in SSRs. The distinctness among alleles/bands of PCR(polymerase chain reaction) products showed better in PAVs than in SSRs, potential in accurate marker‐assisted allele selection. 9Structural Asymmetry of Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex Correlates with Depressive Symptoms: Evidence from Healthy Individuals and Patients with Major Depressive Disorder显示文摘In this study,we investigated the role of structural asymmetry of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFC) in the continuum of depression from healthy individuals to patients.Structural magnetic resonance imaging was performed in 70 patients with major depressive disorder(MDD),49 matched controls,and 349 healthy university students to calculate structural asymmetry indexes of the DLPFC.First-episode,treatment-naive MDD patients showed a relatively lower asymmetry index than healthy controls,and their asymmetry index was negatively correlated with the depressive symptoms.This abnormality was normalized by antidepressants in medicated MDD patients.Furthermore,the asymmetry index was negatively correlated with the depressive symptoms in university students;this was replicated at two time points in a subgroup of students,suggesting good test–retest reliability.Our findings are consistent with previous studiesthat support the imbalance hypothesis of MDD and suggest a potential structural basis underlying the functional asymmetry of the DLPFC in depression.In future,the structural index of the DLPFC may become a potential biomarker to evaluate individuals' risk for the onset of MDD.Wei Liu Yu Mao Dongtao Wei Junyi Yang Xue Du Peng Xie Jiang Qiu 2016Neuroscience Bulletin2016,32,3:4

11Mapping Quantitative Trait Loci Associated with Aluminum Toxin Tolerance in NJRIKY Recombinant Inbred Line Population of Soybean (Glycine max)显示文摘To investigate the genetic mechanism of Al-tolerance in soybean, a recombinant inbred line population (RIL) with 184 F2:7:11 lines derived from the cross of Kefeng No.1 × Nannong 1138-2 (Al-tolerant × Al-sensitive) were tested in pot experiment with sand culture medium in net room in Nanjing. Four traits, i.e. plant height, number of leaves, shoot dry weight and root dry weight at seedling stage, were evaluated and used to calculate the average membership index (FAi) as the indicator of Al-tolerance. The composite interval mapping (CIM) under WinQTL Cartographer v. 2.5 detected five QTLs (i.e. qFAi-1, qFAi- 2, qFAi-3, qFAi-4 and qFAi-5), explaining 5.20%-9.07% of the total phenotypic variation individually. While with the multiple interval mapping (MIM) of the same software, five QTLs (qFAi-1, qFAi-5, qFAi-6, qFAi-7, and qFAi-8) explaining 5.7%-24.60% of the total phenotypic variation individually were mapped. Here qFAi-1 and qFAi-5 were detected by both CIM and MIM with the locations in a same ?anking marker region, GMKF046-GMKF080 on B1 and satt278-sat_95 on L, respectively. While qFAi-2 under CIM and qFAi-6 under MIM both on D1b2 were located in neighboring regions with their confidence intervals overlapped and might be the same locus. Segregation analysis under major gene plus polygene inheritance model showed that Al-tolerance was controlled by two major genes (h2mg = 33.05%) plus polygenes (h2pg = 52.73%). 12STUDY ON ELECTRORHEOLOGICAL FLUID DAMPER FOR APPLICATION IN MACHINING CHATTER CONTROL显示文摘The electrorheological fluid(ERF)is a kind of intelligent material with bright prospects for industry applications, which has viscoelastic characteristic under the applied electric field. The dynamic model of a milling system with an ERF damper is established, and the chatter suppression mechanism of the ER effect is discussed theoretically. Both the theoretical study and the experimental investigation show that the additional damping and additional stiffness produced by the ERF increase with the rise in the strength of electric field E, but their influence on the cutting stability is different. Only when both additional damping and additional stiffness cooperate, the milling chatter can be suppressed quickly and effectively. In additional, an ERF damper used on the arbor of horizontal spindle milling machine is developed, and a series of milling chatter control experiments are performed. 13Tenofovir vs.entecavir on recurrence of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma beyond Milan criteria after hepatectomy显示文摘Background:Hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)beyond the Milan criteria is shown to be beneficial.However,a high rate of post-operative HCC recurrence hinders the long-term survival of the patients.This study aimed to investigate and compare the impacts of tenofovir(TDF)and entecavir(ETV)on the recurrence of hepatitis B viral(HBV)-related HCC beyond the Milan criteria.Methods:Data pertaining to 1532 patients who underwent hepatectomy and received antiviral therapy between January 2014 and January 2019 were collected from five centers.Recurrence-free survival(RFS)analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method.Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was performed to determine prognostic factors for HCC recurrence.Results:The analysis incorporates 595 HBV-related HCC patients.The overall 5-year RFS was 21.3%.Among them,533 and 62 patients received ETV and TDF treatment,respectively.The 1-,3-,and 5-year RFS rates were 46.3%,27.4%,and 19.6%,respectively,in the ETV group compared with 65.1%,41.8%,and 37.2%,respectively,in the TDF group(P<0.001).Multivariate analysis showed that TDF treatment(hazard ratio[HR]:0.604,P=0.005),cirrhosis(HR:1.557,P=0.004),tumor size(HR:1.037,P=0.008),microvascular invasion(MVI)(HR:1.403,P=0.002),portal vein tumor thrombus(PVTT)(HR:1.358,P=0.012),capsular invasion(HR:1.228,P=0.040),and creatinine levels(CREA)(HR:0.993,P=0.031)were statistically significant prognostic factors associated with RFS.Conclusions:Patients with HCC beyond the Milan criteria exhibited a high rate of HCC recurrence after hepatectomy.Compared to the ETV therapy,TDF administration significantly lowered the risk of HCC recurrence.Junyi Shen Weili Qi Junlong Dai Shusheng Leng Kangyi Jiang Yu Zhang Shun Ran Chuan Li Tianfu Wen 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,3:3
14The impact of COVID-19 on stock markets显示文摘This paper attempts to explore the direct effects and spill-overs of COVID-19 on stock markets.Using conventional t-tests and nonparametric Mann–Whitney tests,we empirically analyse daily return data from stock markets in the People’s Republic of China,Italy,South Korea,France,Spain,Germany,Japan and the United States of America.Our empirical results show that(i)COVID-19 has a negative but short-term impact on stock markets of affected countries and that(ii)the impact of COVID-19 on stock markets has bidirectional spill-over effects between Asian countries and European and American countries.However,there is no evidence that COVID-19 negatively affects these countries’stock markets more than it does the global average.The findings contribute to the research on economic impact of the pandemic by providing empirical evidence that COVID-19 has spill-over effects on stock markets of other countries.The results also provide a basis for assessing trends in international stock markets when the situation is alleviated worldwide.Qing He Junyi Liu Sizhu Wang Jishuang Yu 2020Economic and Political Studies2020,8,3:3
15Parallel implementation of w-projection wide-field imaging显示文摘w-Projection is a wide-field imaging technique that is widely used in radio synthesis arrays. Processing the wide-field big data generated by the future Square Kilometre Array(SKA) will require significant updates to current methods to significantly reduce the time consumed on data processing. Data loading and gridding are found to be two major time-consuming tasks in w-projection. In this paper, we investigate two parallel methods of accelerating w-projection processing on multiple nodes: the hybrid Message Passing Interface(MPI) and Open Multi-Processing(OpenMP) method based on multicore Central Processing Units(CPUs) and the hybrid MPI and Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA)method based on Graphics Processing Units(GPUs). Both methods are successfully employed and operated in various computational environments, confirming their robustness. The experimental results show that the total runtime of both MPI + OpenMP and MPI + CUDA methods is significantly shorter than that of single-thread processing. MPI + CUDA generally shows faster performance when running on multiple nodes than MPI + OpenMP, especially on large numbers of nodes. The single-precision GPU-based processing yields faster computation than the double-precision processing; while the single-and doubleprecision CPU-based processing shows consistent computational performance. The gridding time remarkably increases when the support size of the convolution kernel is larger than 8 and the image size is larger than 2,048 pixels. 201-Pbps orbital angular momentum fibre-optic transmission显示文摘Space-division multiplexing(SDM),as a main candidate for future ultra-high capacity fibre-optic communications,needs to address limitations to its scalability imposed by computation-intensive multi-input multi-output(MIMO)digital signal processing(DSP)required to eliminate the crosstalk caused by optical coupling between multiplexed spatial channels.By exploiting the unique propagation characteristics of orbital angular momentum(OAM)modes in ring core fibres(RCFs),a system that combines SDM and C+L band dense wavelength-division multiplexing(DWDM)in a 34 km 7-core RCF is demonstrated to transport a total of 24960 channels with a raw(net)capacity of 1.223(1.02)Peta-bit s−1(Pbps)and a spectral efficiency of 156.8(130.7)bit s−1 Hz−1.Remarkably for such a high channel count,the system only uses fixed-size 4×4 MIMO DSP modules with no more than 25 time-domain taps.Such ultra-low MIMO complexity is enabled by the simultaneous weak coupling among fibre cores and amongst non-degenerate OAM mode groups within each core that have a fixed number of 4 modes.These results take the capacity of OAM-based fibre-optic communications links over the 1 Pbps milestone for the first time.They also simultaneously represent the lowest MIMO complexity and the 2nd smallest fibre cladding diameter amongst reported few-mode multicore-fibre(FM-MCF)SDM systems of>1 Pbps capacity.We believe these results represent a major step forward in SDM transmission,as they manifest the significant potentials for further up-scaling the capacity per optical fibre whilst keeping MIMO processing to an ultra-low complexity level and in a modularly expandable fashion.Junyi Liu Jingxing Zhang Jie Liu Zhenrui Lin Zhenhua Li Zhongzheng Lin Junwei Zhang Cong Huang Shuqi Mo Lei Shen Shuqing Lin Yujie Chen Ran Gao Lei Zhang Xiaobo Lan Xinlun Cai Zhaohui Li Siyuan Yu 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,8:1
