| 5 | Recurrence or metastasis of HCC:predictors,early detection and experimental antiangiogenic therapy显示文摘AIM To investigate the predictors forrecurrence or metastasis of HCC,and toevaluate the effect of antiangiogenic therapy onthe growth of transplantable human HCC in nudemice.METHODS RT-PCR was used to measure theexpression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in 56 pairs of nontumorous liver andtumor samples.Sixty blood samples from humanHCC were examined by nested RT-PCR to find outAFP mRNA.Recombinant human endostatin andpolyclonal antibody against VEGF wereadministered to treat human HCC transplanted innude mice.RESULTS Thirty of 56 HCC samples showedstronger expression of MMP-9 in tumoroustissues than in nontumorous tissues.Fifteen ofthe 26 patients with relative expression level ofMMP-9 more than 0.34 developed tumorrecurrence or metastasis,whereas only 7 of 30patients with relative expression level less than0.34 developed tumor recurrence(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in therelative expression level of VEGF betweenpatients with postoperative recurrence ormetastasis and those without recurrence.AFPmRNA was detectable in 53.3% of patients withHCC.The sensitivity and specificity of AFPmRNA as a marker to detect hematogenousdissemination of HCC cells was 81.8% and84.4%,respectively.Recombinant human endostatin and polyclonal antibody against VEGFinhibited the growth of transplantable HCC innude mice by 52.2% and 45.7%,respectively.CONCLUSION MMP-9 expression in HCCcorrelates with the postoperative recurrence ormetastasis of HCC.Patients with high level ofMMP-9 expression in HCC are susceptible tometastasis.AFP mRNA could serve as anindicator of hematogenous spreading of HCCcells in circulation and a predictor of recurrenceor metastasis of HCC.Antiangiogenesis may bean adjuvant therapy for HCC. | Jiang YF Yang ZH Hu JQ | 2000 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2000,6,1: | 57 |

| 7 | SHRIMP zircon U-Pb age and Nd isotopic study on the Nyainqêntanglha Group in Tibet显示文摘The Nyainqêntanglha Group is traditionally viewed as the oldest metamorphic basement in the Lhasa block, but its formation age and tectonic setting remain debate. Zircons extracted from the metamorphic sequence of volcanics and intrusions of the Nyainqêntanglha Group, 10 km west of Nam Co in northern Lhasa block, have been investigated by cathodolu- minescence (CL), backscattered (BSE) and dated by ion microprobe (SHRIMP). We conclude that the U-Pb age of 787±9 Ma of zircons from the trondhjemite imposes a constraint on maxi- mum protolith age, and minimum formation age of the Nyainqêntanglha Group is constrained by U-Pb age of 748±8 Ma of zircons from the granite. The formation age of the Nyainqêntanglha Group is consistent with sedimentary age of Greater Himalayan rocks, showing that they devel- oped coevally in an arc-basin tectonic setting of Neoproterozoic active continental margin along the northern margin of the India shield. The inherited zircons from the tholetiite and granite give older 207Pb/206Pb ages from 947 to 1766 Ma. The positive εNd( t ) value indicates that the mafic rocks were derived from the depleted mantle, but contaminated by the older continental crustal material. In this study,umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells on a collagen scaffold(collagen/UC-MSCs) can activate primordial follicles in vitro via phosphorylation of FOXO3 a and FOXO1. Transplantation of collagen/UC-MSCs to the ovaries of POF patients rescued overall ovarian function, evidenced by elevated estradiol concentrations, improved follicular development, and increased number of antral follicles. Successful clinical pregnancy was achieved in women with POF after transplantation of collagen/UC-MSCs or UC-MSCs. | 20 | Laparoscopic vs open left hepatectomy for hepatolithiasis显示文摘AIM: To explore the feasibility and therapeutic effect of total laparoscopic left hepatectomy (LLH) for hepatolithiasis. METHODS: From June 2006 to October 2009, 61 consecutive patients with hepatolithiasis who met the inclusion criteria for LLH were treated in our institute. Of the 61 patients with hepatolithiasis, 28 underwent LLH (LLH group) and 33 underwent open left hepatectomy (OLH group). Clinical data including operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative complication rate, postoperative hospital stay time, stone clearance and recurrence rate were retrospectively analyzed and compared between the two groups. RESULTS: LLH was successfully performed in 28 patients. The operation time of LLH group was longer than that of OLH group (158 ± 43 min vs 132 ± 39 min, P < 0.05) and the hospital stay time of LLH group was shorter than that of OLH group (6.8 ± 2.8 d vs 10.2 ± 3.4 d, P < 0.01). No difference was found in intraoperative blood loss (180 ± 56 mL vs 184 ± 50 mL), postoperative complication rate (14.2% vs 15.2%), and stone residual rate (intermediate rate 17.9% vs 12.1% and final rate 0% vs 0%) between the twogroups. No perioperative death occurred in either group. Fifty-seven patients (93.4%) were followed up for 2-40 mo (mean 17 mo), including 27 in LLH group and 30 in OLH group. Stone recurrence occurred in 1 patient of each group.
