1Clinical trial:Lactobacillus plantarum 299v(DSM 9843)improves symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome显示文摘AIM:To assess the symptomatic efficacy of Lactobacillus plantarum 299v(L.plantarum 299v)(DSM 9843) for the relief of abdominal symptoms in a large subset of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) patients fulfilling the Rome Ⅲ criteria.METHODS:In this double blind,placebo-controlled,parallel-designed study,subjects were randomized to daily receive either one capsule of L.plantarum 299v(DSM 9843) or placebo for 4 wk.Frequency and intensity of abdominal pain,bloating and feeling of incomplete rectal emptying were assessed weekly on a visual analogue scale while stool frequency was calculated.RESULTS:Two hundred and fourteen IBS patients were recruited.After 4 wk,both pain severity(0.68 + 0.53 vs 0.92 + 0.57,P < 0.05) and daily frequency(1.01 + 0.77 vs 1.71 + 0.93,P < 0.05) were lower with L.plantarum 299v(DSM 9843) than with placebo.Similar results were obtained for bloating.At week 4,78.1 % of the patients scored the L.plantarum 299v(DSM 9843) symptomatic effect as excellent or good vs only 8.1 % for placebo(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:A 4-wk treatment with L.plantarum 299v(DSM 9843) provided effective symptom relief,particularly of abdominal pain and bloating,in IBS patients fulfilling the Rome Ⅲ criteria.Philippe Ducrotté Prabha Sawant Venkataraman Jayanthi 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,30:17
2Plant species with extremely small populations(PSESP) in China:A seed and spore biology perspective显示文摘Approximately one fifth of the world's plants are at risk of extinction.Of these,a significant number exist as populations of few individuals,with limited distribution ranges and under enormous pressure due to habitat destruction.In China,these most-at-risk species are described as 'plant species with extremely small populations'(PSESP).Implementing conservation action for such listed species is urgent.Storing seeds is one of the main means of ex situ conservation for flowering plants.Spore storage could provide a simple and economical method for fern ex situ conservation.Seed and spore germination in nature is a critical step in species regeneration and thus in situ conservation.But what is known about the seed and spore biology(storage and germination) of at-risk species? We have used China's PSESP(the first group listing) as a case study to understand the gaps in knowledge on propagule biology of threatened plant species.We found that whilst germination information is available for 28 species(23%of PSESP),storage characteristics are only known for 8%of PSESP(10 species).Moreover,we estimate that 60%of the listed species may require cryopreservation for long-term storage.We conclude that comparative biology studies are urgently needed on the world's most threatened taxa so that conservation action can progress beyond species listing.Ellie Merrett Wade Jayanthi Nadarajan Xiangyun Yang Daniel Ballesteros Weibang Sun Hugh W.Pritchard 2016Plant Diversity2016,38,5:6

4印度南部2型糖尿病患者糖尿病视网膜病变相关危险因素的研究(英文)显示文摘目的:探究2型糖尿病患者糖尿病视网膜病变(DR)的严重度及受试者中糖尿病视网膜病变严重程度与其病程、糖化血红蛋白水平、高血压史、年龄和性别的相关性。方法:横断面研究。2012-05/06,采取简单随机抽样方法进行结构化问卷调查,收集100例年龄≥35岁糖尿病视网膜病变患者。进行描述性统计、单变量和多变量有序逻辑回归分析。用excel表进行数据录入,并用SPSS 21.0进行数据分析(P<0.05)。结果:100例患者,平均年龄53.16±10.81(35~78)岁。通过单因素分析发现,糖尿病视网膜病变严重度与年龄(P<0.01),糖尿病病程(P<0.001),糖化血红蛋白水平(P<0.001),糖尿病家族史(P<0.01),高血压病史(P<0.05),均呈正相关,高密度脂蛋白(HDL)及年龄与DR严重程度无相关性。除年龄因素外,上述所有因素均为影响糖尿病视网膜病变严重度的独立风险因素。结论:研究表明,糖尿病病程、糖化血红蛋白水平、糖尿病家族史、高血压病史以及性别与糖尿病视网膜病变严重程度密切相关。但多因素分析中,年龄、HDL因素与DR严重程度无关。因此,利用现有治疗手段的有效性和及时控制,可以预防和消除视力威胁性疾病,延缓DR的发生。Senthilvel Vasudevan Sumathi Senthilvel Jayanthi Sureshbabu 2017国际眼科杂志2017,17,9:4
5Genotype phenotype correlation in Wilson's disease within families-a report on four south Indian families显示文摘AIM: To study the genotype phenotype correlation in Wilson's disease (WD) patients within families. METHODS: We report four unrelated families from South India with nine members affected with WD. Phenotype was classified as per international consensus phenotypic classifi cation of WD. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and 21 exons of ATP7B gene and flanking introns were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR products were screened for mutations and the aberrant products noted on screening were sequenced. RESULTS: Four separate ATP7B mutations were found in the four families. ATP7B mutations were identical amongst affected members within each family. Three families had homozygous mutations of ATP7B gene while one family had compound heterozygous mutation, of which only one mutation was identifi ed. We noted concordance between ATP7B gene mutation and Wilson's disease phenotype amongst members within each family. The age of onset of symptoms or of detection of asymptomatic disease, baseline serum ceruloplasmin and baseline urinary copper levels were also similar in affected members of each family. Minor differences in phenotype and baseline serum ceruloplasmin level were noted in one family.CONCLUSION: We report concordance between ATP7B mutation and WD phenotype within each family with > 1 member affected with WD. Homozygous ATP7B mutation was present in 3 of the 4 families studied. Our report supports allelic dominance as a determinant of WD phenotype.
