1Magnetic Helical Micro-and Nanorobots:Toward Their Biomedical Applications显示文摘Magnetic helical micro- and nanorobots can perfo rm 3D navigation in various liquids with a sub-micrometer precision under low-strength rotating magnetic fields(< 10 m T). Since magnetic fields with low strengths are harmless to cells and tissues, magnetic helical micro/nanorobots are promising tools for biomedical applications, such as minimally invasive surgery, cell manipulation and analysis, and targeted therapy. 3Insulin-like growth factor 1-induced enolase 2 deacetylation by HDAC3 promotes metastasis of pancreatic cancer显示文摘Enolase 2(ENO2)is a key glycolytic enzyme in the metabolic process of glycolysis,but its potential function in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is unclear.In this study,we observed a significant overexpression of ENO2 in PDAC tissues,and its expression was correlated with metastasis and poor prognosis in PDAC patients.K394 was identified as a major acetylation site in ENO2 that regulates its enzymatic activity,cell metabolism and PDAC progression.Knockdown of ENO2 suppressed tumor growth and liver metastasis in PDAC.Re-expression of wild-type(WT)ENO2,but not the K394 acetylation mimetic mutant,could reverse the decreased tumor malignancy.We further characterized histone deacetylase 3(HDAC3)and P300/CBP-associated factor(PCAF)as the potential deacetylase and acetyltransferase for ENO2,respectively.HDAC3-mediated deacetylation was shown to lead to ENO2 activation and enhancement of glycolysis.Importantly,insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)was found to decrease K394 acetylation and stimulate ENO2 activity in a dose-and time-dependent manner.The PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway facilitated the phosphorylation of HDAC3 on S424,which promoted K394 deacetylation and activation of ENO2.Linsitinib,an oral small-molecule inhibitor of IGF-1R,could inhibit IGF-1-induced ENO2 deacetylation by HDAC3 and the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.Furthermore,linsitinib showed a different effect on the growth and metastasis of PDAC depending on the overexpression of WT versus K394-mutant ENO2.Our results reveal a novel mechanism by which acetylation negatively regulates ENO2 activity in the metastasis of PDAC by modulating glycolysis.Blockade of IGF-1-induced ENO2 deacetylation represents a promising strategy to prevent the development of PDAC.Yan Zheng Chao Wu Jimeng Yang Yue Zhao Huliang Jia Min Xue Da Xu Feng Yang Deliang Fu Chaoqun Wang Beiyuan Hu Ze Zhang Tianen Li Shican Yan Xuan Wang Peter J.Nelson Christiane Bruns Lunxiu Qin Qiongzhu Dong 2020Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1:3

11Crystalline compounds for remediation of rare-earth fission products:A review显示文摘Rare earth(RE)-containing crystals have been investigated as media for the immobilization of RE fission products from nuclear waste streams.During reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel,fission products including REs,alkalis,and alkaline earths released from the fuel.One viable option to immobilize the RE fission products is to incorporate them into chemically durable crystalline phases in specific waste forms.This study summarizes the crystal structures and synthesis methods of six RE-containing compounds that have applications in remediation of RE fission products.These compounds include oxyapatite(AE_(2)RE_(8)(SiO_(4))_(6)O_(2)),oxychloride(REOCl),borosilicate(RE_(3)BSi_(2)O_(10)),pyrochlore(RE_(2)M_(2)O_(7)),monazite(REPO_(4)),and perovskite(REMO_(3))where AE denotes alkaline earth metals and M denotes transition metals.This review provides an overview of literature on the usage of these six compounds for immobilizing RE fission products and summarizes different synthesis methods for producing these compounds.Comparisons of structural parameters with different REs in each compound are also discussed.Saehwa Chong Brian J.Riley Zayne J.Nelson 2022Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,3:0

13Force microscopy of the Caenorhabditis elegans embryonic eggshell显示文摘Assays focusing on emerging biological phenomena in an animal’s life can be performed during embryogenesis.While the embryo of Caenorhabditis elegans has been extensively studied,its biomechanical properties are largely unknown.Here,we demonstrate that cellular force microscopy(CFM),a recently developed technique that combines micro-indentation with high resolution force sensing approaching that of atomic force microscopy,can be successfully applied to C.elegans embryos.We performed,for the first time,a quantitative study of the mechanical properties of the eggshell of living C.elegans embryos and demonstrate the capability of the system to detect alterations of its mechanical parameters and shell defects upon chemical treatments.In addition to investigating natural eggshells,we applied different eggshell treatments,i.e.,exposure to sodium hypochlorite and chitinase solutions,respectively,that selectively modified the multilayer eggshell structure,in order to evaluate the impact of the different layers on the mechanical integrity of the embryo.Finite element method simulations based on a simple embryo model were used to extract characteristic eggshell parameters from the experimental micro-indentation force-displacement curves.We found a strong correlation between the severity of the chemical treatment and the rigidity of the shell.Furthermore,our results showed,in contrast to previous assumptions,that short bleach treatments not only selectively remove the outermost vitelline layer of the eggshell,but also significantly degenerate the underlying chitin layer,which is primarily responsible for the mechanical stability of the egg.Roger Krenger Jan T.Burri Thomas Lehnert Bradley J.Nelson Martin A.M.Gijs 2020Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1:0
14Distance assessment of detours by jum ping spiders显示文摘To take an indirect route(detour)in order to reach a specific target requires complex cognitive processes.Yet more demanding,from the cognitive point of view,is when the goal is only visible at the beginning of the detour.In spiders from the family Sa lticidae,vision is a key sensory modal-ity mediating navigation and prey search.Their acute vision allows them to perform complicated detours,possibly as a consequence of the multitude of potential routes in their typically complex 3-dimensional habitats.We used a 4-route choice test,in which routes differed in being either short or long and in the presence or absence of a lure of a prey item,to investigate route assessment in 2 salticid species,Trite planiceps and Marpissa marina.Although both species showed evidence of motivation to follow lured-routes,judging by the number of times they re-oriented toward them while detouring,we found that Trite chose short routes in preference to long routes,but did not prefer the lured-routes.In contrast,Marpissa exhibited random route choice,although it ori-ented toward lured-routes more often than control routes(lure absent).Our results suggest that decision-making processes about which route to take occurs before embarking on a route,but this is cognitively challenging.Spiders exhibited cognitive limitations in which the lack of visibility of the goal affected success.However,the severity of cognitive limitations depended on species.We suggest that variability in spatial ability across the Salticidae may be related to the habitat complexity inhabited by each species.Samuel AGUILAR-ARGUELLO Daniel GERHARD Ximena J.NELSON 2020Current Zoology2020,66,3:0
