1Chloramination of wastewater effluent: Toxicity and formation of disinfection byproducts显示文摘The reclamation and disinfection of waters impacted by human activities(e.g., wastewater effluent discharges) are of growing interest for various applications but has been associated with the formation of toxic nitrogenous disinfection byproducts(N-DBPs). Monochloramine used as an alternative disinfectant to chlorine can be an additional source of nitrogen in the formation of N-DBPs. Individual toxicity assays have been performed on many DBPs, but few studies have been conducted with complex mixtures such as wastewater effluents. In this work, we compared the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of wastewater effluent organic matter(Ef OM) before and after chloramination. The toxicity of chloraminated Ef OM was significantly higher than the toxicity of raw Ef OM, and the more hydrophobic fraction(HPO)isolated on XAD-8 resin was more toxic than the fraction isolated on XAD-4 resin.More DBPs were also isolated on the XAD-8 resin. N-DBPs(i.e., haloacetonitriles or haloacetamides) were responsible for the majority of the cytotoxicity estimated from DBP concentrations measured in the XAD-8 and XAD-4 fractions(99.4% and 78.5%, respectively).Measured DBPs accounted for minor proportions of total brominated and chlorinated products, which means that many unknown halogenated compounds were formed and can be responsible for a significant part of the toxicity. 2Seed Priming Influence on Early Crop Growth, Phenological Development and Yield Performance of Linola (Linum usitatissimum L.)显示文摘Reduced early crop growth and limited branching are amongst yield limiting factors of linola. Field response of seed priming treatments viz. 50 mmol L-1 salicylic acid(SA), 2.2% CaCl2 and 3.3% moringa leaf extract(MLE) including untreated dry and hydropriming controls was evaluated on early crop growth and yield performance of linola. Osmopriming with CaCl2 reduced emergence time and produced the highest seedling fresh and dry weights including Chl. a contents. Osmopriming with CaCl2reduced crop branching and fl owering and maturity times and had the maximum plant height, number of branches, tillers, pods and seeds per pod followed by MLE. Increase in seed weight, biological and seed yields was 9.30, 34.16 and 39.49%, harvest index(4.12%) and oil contents(13.39%) for CaCl2 osmopriming. Positive relationship between emergence and seedling vigor traits, 100-seed weight, seed yield with maturity time, 100-seed weight and seed yield were found. 4Determination of captopril in patient human urine using ferrocenemonocarboxylic acid modified carbon nanotubes paste electrode显示文摘In this work,we describe a new strategy for the electrochemical determination of captopril(CA) using ferrocenemonocarboxylic acid as a mediator and multiwall carbon nanotubes as sensors in aqueous solution at pH 7.0.The diffusion coefficient(D),and the kinetic parameters such as electron transfer coefficient(α).and heterogeneous rate constant(k_h),for CA were also determined using electrochemical approaches.Under the optimized conditions,the electrocatalytic oxidation peak current of captopril showed two linear dynamic ranges with a detection limit of 0.3×10^(-6) mol L^(-1) captopril.The linear calibration range was 0.8×10^(-6) to 65×10^(-6) mol L^(-1) using cyclic voltammetry.Finally,this modified electrode was also examined as a selective,simple and precise new electrochemical sensor for the determination of captopril in real samples such as drug and patient human urine.Mohammad A.Khalilzadeh Hassan Karimi-Maleh Azra Amiri Fathali Gholami Robabeh Motaghed Mazhabi 2010Chinese Chemical Letters2010,21,12:2

6Curcumin preconditioning enhances the efficacy of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells to accelerate healing of burn wounds显示文摘Background:Following recent findings from our group that curcumin preconditioning augments the therapeutic efficacy of adipose-derived stem cells in the healing of diabetic wounds in rats,we aimed to investigate the regenerative effects of curcumin preconditioned adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(ASCs)for better recovery of acid inflicted burns in this study.Methods:ASCs were preconditioned with 5μM curcumin for 24 hours and assessed for proliferation,migration,paracrine release potential and gene expression comparative to naive ASCs.Subsequently,the healing capacity of curcumin preconditioned ASCs(Cur-ASCs)versus naive ASCs was examined using acidic wounds in rats.For this,acid inflicted burns of 20 mm in diameter were made on the back of male Wistar rats.Then,2×10^(6) cells of Cur-ASCs and naive ASCs were intradermally injected in the wound periphery(n=6)for comparison with an untreated saline control.Post-transplantation,wounds were macroscopically analysed and photographed to evaluate the percentage of wound closure and period of re-epithelization.Healed wound biopsies were excised and used for histological evaluation and expression analysis of wound healing markers at molecular level by quantitative PCR and western blotting.Results:We found that Cur-ASCs exhibited greater proliferation,migration and paracrine potential in vitro.Further,Cur-ASCs showed more effective recovery than naive ASCs as exhibited by gross morphology,faster wound closure and earlier re-epithelialization.Masson’s trichrome and hematoxylin and eosin staining demonstrated the improved architecture of the healing burns,as evidenced by reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells,compact collagen and marked granulation in Cur-ASC treated rats.Corroborating these findings,molecular assessment showed significantly reduced expressions of pro-inflammatory factors(interleukin-1 beta,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor alpha)a with striking upsurge of an oxidative marker(superoxide dismutase 1),proangiogenic factors(vascular endothelial growth factor,hepatocyte growth factor,hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha)and collagen markers(transforming growth factor beta 1,fibroblast growth factor-2,collagen type 1 alpha 1),verifying that Cur-ASCs modulate the regulation of pro-inflammatory and healing markers at burn sites.Conclusions:Treatment with Cur-ASCs resulted in faster re-epithelization of acid inflicted burns compared to the treatment with naive ASCs.Based on observed findings,we suggest the transplantation of Cur-ASCs is a valuable therapy for the potent clinical management of acidic burns.Maryam Azam Hafiz Ghufran Hira Butt Azra Mehmood Ramla Ashfaq Asad M.Ilyas Muhammad R.Ahmad Sheikh Riazuddin 2021Burns & Trauma2021,9,1:2
