| 1 | Oxidative Stress, Biochemical and Histopathological Alterations in the Liver and Kidney of Female Rats Exposed to Low Doses of Deltamethrin (DM):A Molecular Assessment显示文摘Objective To evaluate histopathological alterations of the liver and kidney of female rats exposed to low doses of DM and its potential genotoxic activity. Methods Female Wistar rats were randomly assigned to control (3 groups, 6 rats in each) and treatment groups (3 groups, 6 rats in each). They were subjected to subcutaneous injections of DM (at doses of 0.003, 0.03, and 0.3 mg/kg bw/d) after 30, 45, and 60 d, respectively. Results Significant alterations were recorded in liver parenchyma induced by hepatic vacuolization, fragmented chromatin in nuclei, dilatation of sinusoids and congestions. Lesions within proximal and distal tubules were observed in the kidneys. Tissue congestions and severe alterations within glomeruli were visible. DM as a pyrethroid insecticide induced significant increase (P≤0.05) of plasma MDA concentrations after 45 d. A significant increase (P≤0.05) in plasma ALT (after 45 and 60 d) and AST (after 60 d) concentrations was recorded as compared to controls. During the whole experimental period the toxic agent provoked significant DNA damages (P≤0.05), especially in the dominance of classes 3 and 4 of obtained comet. Conclusion DM even at a very low dose displays harmful effects by disrupting hepatic and renal function and causing DNA damages in puberscent female rats. | 9 | Hydrometallurgy two stage process for preparation of (Nd,La,Ce)_(2)O_(3) from end-of-life NiMH batteries显示文摘The present work aims to investigate the recovery of light rare earth elements(LREEs) oxides from end-oflife NiMH batteries using a hydro metallurgical process followed by effective precipitation.The operational leaching parameters such as phosphoric acid concentration,temperature,and the solid-liquid ratio were first optimized by Box-Behnken design.The results reveal that under optimum conditions([H_(3)PO_(4)]=2 mol/L,T=80℃,and S/L=1:10 g/mL) the leaching efficiencies of Ni,Co reach 98.1% and99.3%.While La,Ce,and Nd elements remain in the leaching residue as(La,Ce,Nd)PO_(4) with yields of 98.2%,98.6%,and 99.6% for La,Ce,and Nd,respectively.Afterward,the(La,Ce,Nd)PO_(4) is leached with HCl acid,then the rare earth oxalate was precipitated using oxalic acid at a pH of 1.8 and then the product was calcined at 800℃ for 2 h in order to synthesize the(Nd,La,Ce)_(2)O_(3).The analysis using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX) confirms the homogeneity of(Nd,La,Ce)_(2)O_(3) particles that have two morphologies,i.e.,flower and sticks with a particle size between 3and 6 μm.The unit cell parameters of(Nd,La,Ce)_(2)O_(3) were calculated after Rietveld refinement of the XRD patterns,in the space group of Fm-3m are a=b=c=0.57921 nm and the volume equal to 0.194322 nm^(3). | Karim Tanji Khalid Ouzaouit Mohamed Belghiti Isam Lamsayety Hakim Faqir Intissar Benzakour | 2024 | Journal of Rare Earths2024,42,2: | 0 |
| 10 | Novel StAR Gene Mutation Identified in a Moroccan Patient with Lipoid Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia显示文摘Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia(CAH)is an autosomal recessive condition that results from the deficiency of one of the steroidogenesis enzymes responsible for cortisol biosynthesis.In the majority of cases,CAH is caused by 21-hydroxylase deficiency.More rarely,the deficiency concerns 11b-hydroxylase,3b-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase,17hydroxylase,or exceptionally StAR and P450 oxydoreductase.Here,we report the case of a 3 year and 4 months old male child,born from a consanguineous marriage who presented at 15 months old with the salt-loss syndrome.Physical examination found generalized melanoderma,micropenis and bilateral cryptorchidism.Biological assessment at the time of diagnosis revealed hyponatremia,hyperkalemia,functional renal failure,hypoglycemia,low blood cortisol level,and high blood level of ACTH,suggesting primary adrenal insufficiency.The patient presented also with the abnormality of sexual differentiation with a 46 XY karyotype,testosteronemia level was low at the baseline and after HCG stimulation,pelvic ultrasound and Magnetic Raisonance Imaging(MRI)showed bilateral testicular atrophy in the inguinal position.The genetic study revealed a likely pathogenic homozygous variant in the StAR(steroidogenic acute regulatory)gene.Therapeutically,our patient was hydrated by saline solution and treated with hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone,then benefited from a surgical testicular correction marked by a favorable evolution.Although mutations in StAR gene are rare,they can be responsible for the defect in the early stage of steroidogenesis and therefore cause a deficiency in adrenal and sexual hormones biosynthesis. | Hanane Zaddouq Althel Pharel Opoko Khadija Belhassan Intissar Haddiya Ahmed Gaouzi | 2019 | Journal of Endocrinology Research2019,1,2: | 0 |
