Soil and water conservation measures improve soil carbon sequestration and soil quality under cashews显示文摘Land degradation is becoming a serious problem in the west coast region of India where one of the world's eight biodiversity hotspots, the‘Western Ghats’,is present.Poor land management practices and high rainfall have led to increasing problems associated with land degradation.A long-term(13-year)experiment was done to evaluate the impact of soil and water conservation measures on soil carbon sequestration and soil quality at three different depths under cashew nut cultivation on a 19%slope.Five soil and water conservation measures-continuous contour trenches, staggered contour trenches, halfmoon terraces,semi-elliptical trenches, and graded trenches all with vegetative barriers of Stylosanthes scabra and Vetiveria zizanoides and control were evaluated for their influence on soil properties, carbon sequestration, and soil quality under cashews. The soil and water conservation measures improved significantly the soil organic carbon, soil organic carbon stock, carbon sequestration rate and microbial activity compared to the control condition(without any measures).Among the measures tested, continuous contour trenches with vegetative barriers outperformed the others with respect to soil organic carbon stock, sequestration rate, and microbial activity. The lower metabolic quotient with the measures compared to the control indicated alleviation of environmental stress on microbes.Using principal component analysis and a correlation matrix,a minimum dataset was identified as the soil available nitrogen, bulk density, basal soil respiration, soil pH,acid phosphatase activity, and soil available boron and these were the most important soil properties controlling the soil quality.Four soil quality indices using two summation methods(additive and weighted)and two scoring methods(linear and non-linear)were developed using the minimum dataset.A linear weighted soil quality index was able to statistically differentiate the effect of soil and water conservation measures from that of the control. The highest value of the soil quality index of 0.98 was achieved with continuous contour trenches with a vegetative barrier. The results of the study indicate that soil and water conservation measures for cashews are a potential strategy to improve the soil carbon sequestration and soil quality along with improving crop productivity and reducing the erosion losses.Gopal Ramdas Mahajan Bappa Das Sandrasekaran Manivannan Begur Lakshminarasimha Manjunath Ram Ratan Verma Sujeet Desai Rahul Mukund Kulkarni Ashish Marotrao Latare Reshma Sale Dayesh Murgaonkar Kiran Puna Patel Shaiesh Morajkar Ashwini Desai Natasha Barnes Heena Mulla 2021International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,2:4
Study of borohydride ionic liquids as hydrogen storage materials显示文摘Stability of borohydrides is determined by the localization of the negative charge on the boron atom.Ionic liquids(ILs) allow to modify the stability of the borohydrides and promote new dehydrogenation pathways with a lower activation energy. The combination of borohydride and IL is very easy to realize and no expensive rare earth metals are required. The composite of the ILs with complex hydrides decreases the enthalpy and activation energy for the hydrogen desorption. The Coulomb interaction between borohydride and IL leads to a destabilization of the materials with a significantly lower enthalpy for hydrogen desorption. Here, we report a simple ion exchange reaction using various ILs, such as vinylbenzyltrimethylammonium chloride([VBTMA][Cl]), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride([bmim][Cl]), and 1-ethyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bromide([EMPY][Br]) with NaBH4 to decrease the hydrogen desorption temperature. Dehydrogenation of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium borohydride([bmim][BH4]) starts below 100℃. The quantity of desorbed hydrogen ranges between 2.4 wt% and 2.9 wt%, which is close to the theoretical content of hydrogen. The improvement in dehydrogenation is due to the strong amine cation that destabilizes borohydride by charge transfer.Loris Lombardo Heena Yang Andreas Züttel 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,6:2
A comprehensive review on bioactive peptides derived from milk and milkproducts of minor dairy species显示文摘Milk from different species has been exploited for the isolation of various functional ingredients for decades.Irrespective of the source, milk is considered as a complete food,as it provides essential nutrients required by the human body.Proteins and their fractions are valuable sources of bioactive peptides that might exert a health beneficial role in the human body such as immune-modulation,antioxidant activity,ACE-inhibitory activity,anti-neoplastic,anti-microbial,etc.In milk, bioactive peptides may either be present in their natural form or released from their parental proteins due to enzymatic action. The increasing interest in bioactive peptides among researchers has lately augmented the exploration of minor dairy species such as sheep, goat, camel, mithun, mare, and donkey.Alternative to cow, milk from minor dairy species have also been proven to be healthier from infancy to older age owing to their higher digestibility and other nutritive components. Therefore, realizing the significance of milk from such species and incentivized interest towards the derivatization of bioactive peptides, the present review highlights the significant research achievements on bioactive peptides from milk and milk products of minor dairy species.Snigdha Guha Heena Sharma Gaurav Kr Deshwal Priyanka Singh Rao 2021Food Production, Processing and Nutrition2021,3,1:1
Advances in the chemical leaching (inorgano-leaching), bioleaching and desulphurisation of coals显示文摘Coal still remains an important source of power generation world over. Along with its usage, comes unwanted generation of noxious gas emissions, toxic metal releases into wastewater and other pollutants which ultimately lead to environmental concerns. So cleaning of coal through physical or chemical processes becomes utmost important. There are several coals which cannot be cleaned by physical beneficiation techniques to produce low ash cleaner coals. Such coals can be cleaned only through chemical cleaning techniques. The present paper reviews the chemical demineralisation and desulphurisation of coals over the years using various inorganic and organic acids, alkalis, oxidants, leachants and various acids and alkali-acid combinations to reduce the ash and sulphur contents in coals. As high as 90% demineralisation and desulfurization could be achieved with the use of these cheap inorganic acids as compared to the expensive solvents used for solvent extraction processes, a parallel approach of cleaning and refining coals.Heena Dhawan Durlubh Kumar Sharma 2019International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2019,6,2:1

Insights from principal component analysis applied to Py-GCMS study of Indian coals and their solvent extracted clean coal products显示文摘The present work aims at studying five Indian coals and their solvent extracted clean coal products using Py-GCMS analysis and correlating the characterization data using theoretical principal component analysis. The pyrolysis products of the original coals and the super clean coals were classified as mono-,di-and tri-aromatics,while other prominent products that were obtained included cycloalkanes,n-alkanes,and alkenes ranging from C_(10)-C_(29).The principal component analysis is a dimensionality reduction technique that reduced the number of input variables in the characterization dataset and gave inferences on the relative composition of constituent compounds and functional groups and structural insights based on scores and loading plots which were consistent with the experimental observations.ATR-FTIR studies confirmed the reduced concentration of ash in the super clean coals and the presence of aromatics. The Py-GCMS data and the ATR-FTIR spectra led to the conclusion that the super clean coals behaved similarly for both coking and noncoking coals with high aromatic concentrations as compared to the raw coal.Neyveli lignite super clean coal was found to show some structural similarity with the original coals, whereas the other super clean coals showed structural similarity within themselves but not with their original coal samples confirming the selective action of the e,N solvent in solubilizing the polycondensed aromatic structures in the coal samples.Abyansh Roy Heena Dhawan Sreedevi Upadhyayula Hariprasad Kodamana 2021International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2021,8,6:1
Recent developments in dairy kefir-derived lactic acid bacteria and their health benefits显示文摘Kefir is one of the most consumed traditional fermented dairy products and it has a complex probiotic and nutritional composition.Kefir grain contains casein and other milk solids together with the yeasts and lactobacilli that cause the characteristic kefir fermentation and serve as a starter to induce this fermentation when introduced into fresh milk. Both kefir and kefir grains have a rich microbiota and their composition is affected by many parameters like kefir origin, production method(artisanal or industrial),kefir grain:milk ratio, type of milk, fermentation conditions, inoculum source, equipment used in production and storage conditions.Lactic acid bacteria(LAB)are a significant part of the kefir’s microbial composition and the health-promoting effects.Kefir-derived LAB have beneficial effects on colorectal cancer, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, kidney diseases, modulation of the immune system as well as intestinal microbiota through different biological mechanisms. In addition, bioactive peptides and metabolic products of kefir have shown promising results as health beneficial components along with certain antiviral effects including COVID-19.Therefore,this article is up-to-date information about the production, processing as well as health benefits of dairy kefir-derived LAB with future prospect of work.Birsen Yilmaz Heena Sharma Ebru Melekoglu Fatih Ozogul 2022Food Bioscience2022,46,2:1

Fractionation of coal through organo-separative refining for enhancing its potential for the CO2-gasification显示文摘Coal gasification has already been extensively studied earlier under varying conditions of steam,CO2,O2,inert conditions.Belbaid coal and its e,N and NMP-DETA SCC products recovered through organo-refining under milder ambient pressure conditions were subjected to CO2-gasification in a fixed bed reactor under varying conditions.CO2 being an inert gas becomes the most challenging to be utilized during the gasification process. The SCCs showed better CO2-gasification reactivity than the raw Belbaid coal at 900°C.The use of the catalyst K2CO3 tremendously increased the gasification reactivity for both raw coal and the SCCs.The use of sugarcane bagasse for CO2-gasification along with raw coal as well as with residual coal was also studied.Gasification under CO2 atmosphere conditions was used to structurally understand the coals as the coal structure gets loosened after extraction.Heena Dhawan Rohit Kumar Sreedevi Upadhyayula K.K.Pant D.K.Sharma 2020International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2020,7,3:1

Post-operative abdominal complications in Crohn's disease in the biological era: Systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on post-operative complications after surgery for Crohn's disease(CD) comparing biological with no therapy.METHODS: Pub Med, Medline and Embase databases were searched to identify studies comparing postoperative outcomes in CD patients receiving biological therapy and those who did not. A meta-analysis with a random-effects model was used to calculate pooled odds ratios(OR) and confidence intervals(CI) for each outcome measure of interest. RESULTS: A total of 14 studies were included for metaanalysis, comprising a total of 5425 patients with CD 1024(biological treatment, 4401 control group). After biological therapy there was an increased risk of total infectious complications(OR = 1.52; 95%CI: 1.14-2.03, 8 studies) and wound infection(OR = 1.73; 95%CI: 1.12-2.67; P = 0.01, 7 studies). There was no increased risk for other complications including anastomotic leak(OR = 1.19; 95%CI: 0.82-1.71; P = 0.26), abdominal sepsis(OR = 1.22; 95%CI: 0.87-1.72; P = 0.25) and re-operation(OR = 1.12; 95%CI: 0.81-1.54; P = 0.46) in patients receiving biological therapy. CONCLUSION: Pre-operative use of anti-TNF-α therapy may increase risk of post-operative infectious complications after surgery for CD and in particular wound related infections.Peter Waterland Thanos Athanasiou Heena Patel 2016World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2016,8,3:1
Design of experiments to optimize the extraction parameters of a power grade Indian coal显示文摘Low grade high ash coals with difficult physical washability characteristics require chemical cleaning techniques such as solvent extractio n to obtain super clean coal with lower ash conte nts.Kedla,an In di an low grade coal has ash con tent around 44%-50%and there is a need to maximize its solvent extraction yield so as to make this power grade coal industrially useful. This paper highlights the use of definitive screening design and response surface methodology to extract the maximum organic matter from Kedla coal using ethylenediannnine(EDA)and N-methyl pyrollidone(NMP)as solvents under mild atmospheric pressure conditions. The coal was pre-treated with acetic acid before extractions were carried out.The parameters such as the acid pre-treatment time, acid concenmion, particle size, the co-solvent concentratio n and the solvent concentration were optimized in this paper. With this design of experimenls technique about 40%of the organic matter with minimal ash(less than 2%)content was「endered extractable unlike the already postulated designer solvent system—e,N system(i.e.NMP containing small amount of EDA)that uses coal to solve nt ratio as 1:17(wt/vol)and coal to co-solvent ratio as 1:l(wt/vol)thus only giving 19%extraction yield. Therefore, the present design of experimetechnique helps in conserving the number of experimems for process intensification.Heena Dhawan Sreedevi Upadhyayula D.K.Sharma 2018International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2018,5,4:1

Immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma:Current status and future perspectives显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the world’s deadliest and fastestgrowing tumors, with a poor prognosis.HCC develops in the context of chronic liver disease.Curative resection, surgery(liver transplantation),trans-arterial chemoembolization, radioembolization, radiofrequency ablation and chemotherapy are common treatment options for HCC,however, they will only assist a limited percentage of patients.Current treatments for advanced HCC are ineffective and aggravate the underlying liver condition.Despite promising preclinical and early-phase clinical trials for some drugs, existing systemic therapeutic methods for advanced tumor stages remain limited, underlining an unmet clinical need.In current years, cancer immunotherapy has made significant progress, opening up new treatment options for HCC.HCC,on the other hand, has a variety of causes and can affects the body’s immune system via a variety of mechanisms. With the speedy advancement of synthetic biology and genetic engineering,a range of innovative immunotherapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors[anti-programmed cell death-1(PD-1),anti-cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4,and anti-PD ligand 1 cell death antibodies],therapeutic cancer vaccines, engineered cytokines, and adoptive cell therapy have all been used for the treatment of advanced HCC.In this review,we summarize the present clinical and preclinical landscape of immunotherapies in HCC,critically discuss recent clinical trial outcomes, and address future perspectives in the field of liver cancer.Deepa S Mandlik Satish K Mandlik Heena B Choudhary 2023World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,6:1
