1Conversion of biomass lignin to high-value polyurethane:A review显示文摘Lignin,as a major by-product of pulp and paper industry,has attracted extensive interest for the preparation of high value-added products,due to the merits of abundant,sustainable,inexpensive,and unique functional groups.This review focuses on the strategies to develop high performance polyurethane(PU)materials from lignin on the basis of main reports,in which lignin was used not only as macromonomer to substitute petroleum-based polyols,but also as blending filler for PU industry.Pre-treatment approaches,especially lignin fractions extracted with various solvents and chemical modifications,e.g.,depolymerization,hydroxyalkylation,dealkylation,and esterication,were widely explored to enable lignin more reactive and available to synthesize PU products.In addition,lignin/PU blends were also prepared to fulfill industrial demand.With adjustment of lignin structure,the PU formulation,and synthesis procedures,various lignin-based PU products with advanced properties and a higher bio-substitution ratio have been developed,demonstrating the potential industrial application of lignin for high value-added sustainable materials.Hui Li Yuan Liang Pengcheng Li Chaobin He 2020Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2020,5,3:2

3Direct ink writing of programmable functional silicone-based composites for 4D printing applications显示文摘Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)has been widely used in flexible electronics,soft robotics,and bioelectronics.However,the fabrication of PDMS-based devices has mostly relied on conventional approaches,such as casting and molding,thereby limiting their potential.Here we fabricate PDMS-based composites with programmable microstructures by direct ink writing and realize their practical functionalities of four-dimensional(4D)printing.The mechanical,thermomechanical and magnetic properties of the three-dimensional-printed composites can be well tailored by using carbon,metal,or ceramic functional fillers.By taking advantage of the printable,flexible,and magnetic PDMS composites,we demonstrate new practical functionalities of 4D printing by designing programmable architectures,including magnetic-field-driven battery cases and patchworks,as well as arbitrary morphing ceramic structures.In particular,4D-printed batteries are constructed by PDMS-based battery cases for the first time,which can be actuated via external magnetic field.This study broadens the paradigm of 4D printing for prospective applications,such as implant batteries,biomimetic engineering,and customized biomedical devices.Zhiyang Lyu J.ustin Koh Gwendolyn J.H.Lim Danwei Zhang Ting Xiong Lei Zhang Siqi Liu Junfei Duan Jun Ding John Wang Jinlan Wang Yunfei Chen Chaobin He 2022Interdisciplinary Materials2022,1,4:2

11Construction of a hierarchical multiscale conducting network for enhanced thermoelectric response in organic PEDOT:PSS based nanocomposites显示文摘Thermoelectric technology,which is characterized by the interconversion between heat and electricity,is demonstrated as an efficient and environmentally friendly route for thermal energy harvesting and solid-state cooling devices.The pursuit for high-performance room temperature thermoelectric materials is of significant interest.Here,we proposed a design strategy to dramatically improve the thermoelectric response by constructing a hierarchical multiscale conductor network(AgNWs/CNT)in polymer matrix(PEDOT:PSS).At the optimized composition,the highest Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity of base treated ternary PEDOT:PSS/AgNWs/CNT composite are optimized to be 58.6μV K^(-1)and~1950 S cm-1.Correspondingly,the power factor is thus calculated to be on the order of 670μV m^(-1)K^(-2),which is among one of the highest values compared with previous reports.The underlying mechanism is illustrated based on detailed structure,morphology and electron transport quantification.This work affords a novel strategy for the future development of high-performance room temperature nanocomposite thermoelectrics.Yong Zhang Siqi Liu J.Justin Koh Chaobin He 2021Journal of Materiomics2021,7,1:1

19Definition of the Quaternary Qiangtang Paleolake in Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘Since the Quaternary, many lakes have been present in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. As peculiar geological processes in the evolution of the uplifting of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, the distributions and evolutions of the Quaternary paleolakes in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau have been the focus of interest among the international geosciences circle. Comparisons of the newly obtained and existing data from field surveys, remote sensing images, characteristics of tectonic landforms and distribution of the lacustrine strata, the author have, for the first time, defined a large-sized Quaternary Qiangtang Paleolake. The paleolake starts from the east-westerly direction at Rutog in western Tibet, passing through Gêrzê, and finally ends at Nagqu in eastern Tibet. Its length is approximately 1,200 km; it is about 420 km at its widest point (north-southerly). The Paleolake forms an E-W (or NWW) ellipsoid with an estimated area of 354920 km2 . The Paleolake is bordered by the Mts. Gangdisê and Nyainqêntanglha to the south and the Karakorum Pass-Tozê Kangri-Zangbagangri-Tanggula Pass to the north. It generally appears as a basinal landform with low mountains and valleys in the central part (altitudes of 4400 m) and higher altitudes (5000 m) in the peripheries. The formation and development of the Paleolake was controlled by the nearly E-W trending structures. There are three east-westerly extending tectonic sutures inside the Paleolake area, from north to south: (1) the Shuanghu Suture; (2) the Bangong Co-Nujiang River Suture; (3) the Shiquanhe-Lhari Suture. These three sutures have generally controlled the spreading features of the Paleolake and act as the first grade lake-controlling structures. In the southern Paleolake basin, there are a series of south-northerly rift basins, which are controlled by the normal faults and exist as a series of south-northerly grabens and semi-graben faulted basins. The south-northerly rift zones have clearly exerted control over the south margin of the Paleolake as well as the distribution of the residual lake basins after the Paleolake's break up. They are the secondary lake-controlling tectonics. Discoveries of the lacustrine strata inside the Plateau, especially the successive discoveries of many high-stand lacustrine strata, are direct evidence supporting the existence of the paleolakes in the Plateau. The dating results of the lake-eroded travertine in the Dong Co in the hinterland of the Quaternary Qiangtang Paleolake have revealed that the lake-eroded travertine is of Late Pleistocene sediments. By considering the analysis of the lacustrine strata as well, the researchers have revealed that the Quaternary Qiangtang Paleolake begins its embryonic form in the Early Pleistocene, successively develops till the Middle Pleistocene, and reaches its full blossom in the middle stage of the Late Pleistocene; it further shrinks and separates by the end of the Late Pleistocene, and finally ceases its whole life as the paleolake. After the Holocene, the huge Late Pleistocene Qiangtang Paleolake no longer exists, leaving a series of widely distributed smaller lakes on the Qiangtang Plateau.
