1Sorption and transport studies of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and Triton X-100 in clayey soil显示文摘Surfactants are soil washing agents and facilitators for subsurface remediation of hydrocarbon spills. It is important to understand the sorption and transport behavior of surfactants for enhanced soil remediation. The adsorption and desorption isotherms of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and Triton X-100 with sand and kaolinite have been quantified.Kaolinite clay had the highest sorption capacity compared to blasting sand.Transport parameters such as diffusion coefficient (D) and retardation factor (R) of the above mentioned surfactant solutions were determined in clayey soils (82.5% sand and 17.5% kaolinite mixture) with near zero and 0.1 g/L ionic strength.NaCl was used as the electrolyte solution.Convection-Diffusion equation was used to model the breakthrough curves of the surfactants.Bromide ion was chosen as the tracer material in order to characterize the column.CTAB and Triton X-100 were used to flush the perchloroethylene (PCE) contaminated soil. The effectiveness of CTAB and Triton X-100 in flushing the PCE from the contaminated soil was quantified.Sivaram Harendra Cumaraswamy Vipulanandan 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,3:2

4Solubilization and degradation of perchloroethylene (PCE) in cationic and nonionic surfactant solutions显示文摘Solubilization of perchloroethylene (PCE) in a nonionic (Triton X-100) and a cationic (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)) surfactant solutions and the degradation of surfactant solubilized PCE using fine to nanosize Fe and bi-metallic Fe-Ni particles were investigated. Micelle partition coeficients (Km) and molar solubility ratio (MSR) for PCE in 10 g/L of surfactant solutions have been quantified and the solubility of PCE (100 mg/L in water) in the surfactant solutions increased by about ten fold. Of the two surfactants studied, Triton X-100 solubilized the higher amount of PCE per gram of surfactant. To degrade solubilized PCE, both iron and bi- metallic Fe-Ni particles were used in continuously stirred batch reactors. The iron and bi-metallic particles were synthesized using the solution method and the particles were characterized using the SEM, EDS, TEM and XRD. The PCE solubilized up to 500 mg/L in both surfactant solutions were totally degraded at various rates by 200 g/L of bi-metallic Fe-Ni particles in less than 20 hr, which is the highest concentration of PCE degraded in the shortest time compared to data in the literature. The degradations of PCE solubilized in surfactant solutions were represented by nonlinear kinetic relationships which depended on the type of surfactant used for solubilizing the PCE.Sivaram Harendra Cumaraswamy Vipulanandan 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,8:1

15Leukemoid reaction in a patient with COVID-19 infection: A case report显示文摘Rationale:COVID-19 usually presents with flu-like symptoms and signs, but some rare presentations like leukemoid symptoms cannot be ignored.Patient’s concerns:A 37-year-old female presented to the outpatient department with flu-like symptoms.Diagnosis:The RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 infection was positive, while complete blood cell and peripheral blood smear showed leukemoid reaction.Intervention:Paracetamol and fexofenadine for flu-like symptoms and leukemoid presentation.Outcomes:On the 10th day,the patient was asymptomatic and RT-PCR was negative. So the patient was discharged and leukemoid presentation subsided after clearance of viral disease.Lessons:COVID-19 has a myriad of presentations, and unusual symptoms/signs especially in this pandemic could be induced by COVID-19 infection.Prabhat Agrawal Ashish Gautam Anjana Pandey Harendra Kumar Nikhil Pursnani 2022Journal of Acute Disease2022,11,3:0
16Assessment of glacier stored water in Karakoram Himalaya using satellite remote sensing and field investigation显示文摘Karakoram Himalaya(KH) has continental climatic conditions and possesses largest concentration of glaciers outside the polar regions. The melt water from these glaciers is a major contributor to the Indus river. In this study, various methods have been used to estimate the ice volume in the Karakoram Range of glaciers such as Coregistration of Optically Sensed Images and Correlation(COSI-Corr) method and Area-Volume relations. Landsat 8 satellite data has been used to generate the ice displacement, velocity and thickness map. Our study for 558 Karakoram glaciers revealed that the average ice thickness in Karakoram is 90 m. Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR) survey has been conducted in one of the KH glacier i.e. Saser La glacier and the collected GPR data is used for the validation of satellite derived thickness map. GPR measured glacier thickness values are found comparable with satellite estimated values with RMSE of 4.3 m. The total ice volume of the Karakoram glaciers is estimated to be 1607±19 km3(1473±17 Gt), which is equivalent to 1473±17 km3 of water equivalent. Present study also covers the analysis of glacier surface displacement, velocity and ice thickness values with reference to glacier mean slope.Kamal Kant SINGH Harendra Singh NEGI Dhiraj Kumar SINGH 2019Journal of Mountain Science2019,16,4:0
