| 1 | Th17 plasticity and its changes associated with inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘CD4 T helper(Th) cell differentiation into distinct T cell subsets is critical to the normal function of the immune system. Until recently,the paradigm held that na?ve T cells differentiated into distinct subsets under the guidance of environmental cues(e.g.,cytokines) and that once polarized,these cells were committed to a particular functional state. However,the existence of transdifferentiated T cell populations,which express signature transcription factors and cytokines associated with more than one Th subset,challenges the immutability of T helper subsets and suggests that plasticity is a feature of multifaceted immune responses. How this process impacts immune dysregulation in diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD) and the machinery that underlies this process is far from fully understood. Interleukin(IL)-17 secreting helper T(Th17) cells have been heavily implicated in tissue-specific immune pathology including murine models of IBD,human Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Plasticity within this subset is suggested by the existence of IL-17 secreting cells,which,can also secrete interferon-γ,the signature cytokine for Th1 cells or,can co-express the anti-inflammatory transcription factor forkhead box p3,a signature transcription factor of regulatory T cells. | 2 | Soil Aggregate Stability and Aggregate-Associated Carbon Under Different Tillage Systems in the North China Plain显示文摘The influences of tillage systems on soil carbon(C) stocks have been studied extensively,but the distribution of soil C within aggregate fractions is not well understood.The objective of this study was to determine the influences of various tillage systems on soil aggregation and aggregate-associated C under wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) and corn(Zea mays L.) double cropping systems in the North China Plain.The experiment was established in 2001,including four treatments:moldboard plow(MP) with residue(MP+R) and without residue(MP-R),rotary tillage with residue(RT),and no-till with residue(NT).In 2007 soil samples were collected from the 0-5,5-10,and 10-20 cm depths,and were separated into four aggregate-size classes(>2 000,250-2 000,53-250,and<53μm) by wet-sieving method.Aggregate-associated C was determined,and the relationships between total soil C concentration and aggregation-size fractions were examined.The results showed that NT and RT treatments significantly increased the proportion of macroaggregate fractions(>2 000 and 250-2 000μm) compared with the MP-R and MP+R treatments.Averaged across all depths,mean weight diameters of aggregates(MWD) in NT and RT were 47 and 20%higher than that in MP+R.The concentration of bulk soil organic C was positively correlated with MWD(r=0.98;P=0.024) and macroaggregate fraction(r=0.96;P=0.036) in the 0-5 cm depth.In the 0-20 cm depth,comparing with MP+R,total C occluded in the>2 000μm fraction was increased by 9 and 6%under NT and RT,respectively.We conclude that adoption of conservation tillage system,especially no-till,can increase soil macro-aggregation and total C accumulation in macroaggregates,which may improve soil C sequestration in the intensive agricultural region of the North China Plain. | DU Zhang-liu REN Tu-sheng HU Chun-sheng ZHANG Qing-zhong Humberto Blanco-Canqui | 2013 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2013,12,11: | 20 |
| 3 | HER2 in gastric cancer: Comparative analysis of three different antibodies using whole-tissue sections and tissue microarrays显示文摘AIM:To compare the performance of three commercially available anti-human epidermalgrowth factor receptor 2(HER2)antibodies in whole-tissue sections and tissue microarrays(TMAs)of a series of gastric tumors.METHODS:We present a comparative analysis of three anti-HER2 antibodies(HercepTest,4B5 and SP3)using TMA and whole-tissue sections prepared from the same paraffin blocks of 199 gastric adenocarcinomas operated upon between January 2004 and December2008 at a Brazilian cancer hospital.The data on the patients’age,sex,the anatomical location of the tumor and the Lauren’s histological classification were collected from clinical and pathological records.The immunohistochemical(IHC)results were examined by two pathologists and the cases were classified as positive(3+),equivocal(2+)and negative(0 or 1+),according to the criteria of the IHC scoring system of gastric cancer.TMAs and whole-tissue sections were evaluated separately and independently.All cases yielding discordant IHC results and/or scored as 2+were subjected to dual-color in situ hybridization in order to determine the final HER2 status.Besides determining the sensitivity and predictive value for HER2-positive status,we measured the accuracy of each antibody by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve.The agreement between the results obtained using the TMAs and those obtained using the whole-tissue sections was assessed by means of Kappa coefficient.RESULTS:Intratumoral heterogeneity of HER2 expression was observed with all antibodies.HER2-positive expression(3+)in the whole-tissue sections was observed in 23 cases(11.6%)using the 4B5 antibody,in 18 cases(9.1%)using the SP3 antibody and in 10 cases(5.1%)using the HercepTest antibody.In the TMAs,11 positive cases(5.6%)were identified using SP3 antibody,9(4.6%)using the 4B5 antibody and 6(3%)using the HercepTest antibody.The sensitivity using whole-tissue sections and TMA,respectively,was 95.2%and 42.9%with 4B5,90.5%and 66.7%with SP3 and 47.6%and42.9%with HercepTest.The accuracy,calculated from the area under the ROC curve,using whole-tissue sections and TMA,respectively,was 0.91 and 0.79 by 4B5,0.86 and 0.80 by SP3 and 0.73 and 0.71 by HercepTest.The concordance of the results obtained using wholetissue sections and TMA was 97.4%(Kappa 0.75)using HercepTest,85.6%(Kappa 0.56)using SP3 and 84.1%(Kappa 0.38)using 4B5.CONCLUSION:The use of the 4B5 antibody on wholetissue sections was the most accurate IHC method for evaluating HER2 expression in gastric adenocarcinoma. | Lucas Faria Abraho-Machado Alexandre Andrade dos Anjos Jácome Durval Renato Wohnrath José Sebastio dos Santos Estela Cristina Carneseca José Humberto Tavares Guerreiro Fregnani Cristovam Scapulatempo-Neto | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,38: | 12 |

Myelin abnormalities, different types of edema or neurodegenerative processes, can cause areas of abnormal T2 signal, variable enhancement, and patterns of diffusivity of MCP. Pathologies such as demyelinating disorders or certain neurodegenerative entities(e.g., multiple system atrophy or fragile X-associated tremor-ataxia syndrome) appear to have predilection for MCP. | 7 | Tooth-derived stem cells: Update and perspectives显示文摘Tissue engineering is an emerging field of science that focuses on creating suitable conditions for the regeneration of tissues. The basic components for tissue engineering involve an interactive triad of scaffolds, signaling molecules, and cells. In this context,stem cells(SCs) present the characteristics of selfrenewal and differentiation capacity, which make them promising candidates for tissue engineering. Although they present some common markers, such as cluster of differentiation(CD)105, CD146 and STRO-1, SCs derived from various tissues have different patterns in relation to proliferation, clonogenicity, and differentiation abilities in vitro and in vivo. Tooth-derived tissues have been proposed as an accessible source to obtain SCs with limited morbidity, and various tooth-derived SCs(TDSCs) have been isolated and characterized, such as dental pulp SCs, SCs from human exfoliated deciduous teeth, periodontal ligament SCs, dental follicle progenitor cells, SCs from apical papilla, and periodontal ligament of deciduous teeth SCs. However, heterogeneity among these populations has been observed, and the best method to select the most appropriate TDSCs for regeneration approaches has not yet been established. The accumulation of bile results in progressive liver damage, and if left untreated leads to end stage liver disease and death. Patients often present with worsening jaundice and pruritis within the first few years of life. Many of these patients will progress to end stage liver disease and require liver transplantation. The role and timing of liver transplantation still remains debated especially in the management of PFIC1. In those patients who are appropriately selected, liver transplantation offers an excellent survival benefit. | 10 | Postpartum depression:A systematic review of the genetics involved显示文摘Postpartum depression is one of the most prevalent psychopathologies. Its prevalence is estimated to be between 10% and 15%. Despite its multifactorial etiology, it is known that genetics play an important role in the genesis of this disorder. This paper reviews epidemiological evidence supporting the role of genetics in postpartum depression(PPD). The main objectives of this review are to determine which genes and polymorphisms are associated with PPD and discuss how this association may occur. In addition, this paper explores whether these genes are somehow related to or even the same as those linked to Major Depression(MD). To identify gaps in the current knowledge that require investigation, a systematic review was conducted in the electronic databases Pub Med, LILACS and Sci ELO using the index terms 'postpartum depression' and 'genetics'. Literature searches for articles in peerreviewed journals were made until April 2014. PPD was indexed 56 times with genetics. The inclusion criteria were articles in Portuguese, Spanish or English that were available by institutional means or sent by authors upon request; this search resulted in 20 papers. Genes and polymorphisms traditionally related to MD, which are those involved in the serotonin, catecholamine, brain-derived neurotrophic factor and tryptophan metabolism, have been the most studied, and some have been related to PPD. The results are conflicting and some depend on epigenetics, which makes the data incipient. | 11 | Growth of Variable Aspect Ratio ZnO Nanorods by Solochemical Processing显示文摘In this work,variable aspect ratio(length divided by diameter) zinc oxide nanorods were synthesized through a simple solochemical method by reacting a Zn^(2+) precursor with sodium hydroxide at low reaction temperatures.The analysis of the X-ray diffraction data indicated that the samples had hexagonal wurtzite structure and nanometric size crystallites.The transmission electron microscopy(TEM) images of the products prepared at60 and 80 ℃ exhibited rod-like architecture,showing that the reaction temperature did not affect the ZnO morphology.The average aspect ratio of the ZnO nanorods decreased from 3.4 to 2.4 when the reaction temperature was raised from 60 to 80 ℃.The samples presented a blue shift in the excitonic absorption compared to ZnO bulk that increased alongside with reaction temperature.In addition,this research investigated the results obtained by varying the concentration of zinc chloride solution.At the same temperature,it could be verified that when the zinc concentration was increased,the diameter of the ZnO nanorods also slightly increased,and much shorter nanorods were achieved,especially in the reactions performed at 50 and 70 ℃.Finally,the growth mechanism of the ZnO nanostructures was proposed based on the results obtained by changing the zinc precursor concentration and reaction temperature. | Marivone Gusatti Daniel A.R.Souza Nivaldo C.Kuhnen Humberto G.Riella | 2015 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,1: | 3 |

| 13 | Enhanced Ferromagnetism in ZnO Nanoribbons and Clusters Passivated with Sulfur显示文摘Inspired by recent experimental results,the electronic and magnetic properties of sulfur-passivated ZnO clusters and zigzag nanoribbons have been studied using fi rst principles calculations in the framework of the local spin density approximation.In the case of the ZnO nanoribbons,the sulfur atoms or thiol groups were attached in different ways to the zinc or oxygen atoms located at the edges,whereas in clusters,the sulfur atoms were set on the surface,mainly interacting with atoms with low-coordinate number.After an exhaustive atomic relaxation,we found that a magnetic moment emerges in zigzag nanoribbons both with and without sulfur-passivation on the edges.However,the magnitude of the magnetic moment is very sensitive to sulfur passivation.In particular,we found that when sulfur is attached to the zinc atoms in an alternating fashion along the ribbon edges,the magnetic moment is a maximum(1.4μB/unit cell).In the case of clusters,we found that the Zn_(15)O_(15) cluster exhibits a high spin moment of 5.5μB when capped with sulfur atoms.Our calculations indicate that sulfur-passivating of ZnO nanosystems could be responsible for recently observed ferromagnetic responses. | Andres R.Botello-Mendez Florentino Lopez-Urias Mauricio Terrones Humberto Terrones | 2008 | Nano Research2008,1,5: | 3 |

| 16 | Effect of femtosecond laser-assisted lens surgery on the optic nerve head and the macula显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effect of femtosecond laser-assisted lens surgery(FLALS;cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange) on the structure of the optic nerve head and the macula.METHODS: This prospective longitudinal study included healthy eyes undergoing FLALS. Eyes with glaucoma or any other ocular disease that could alter optical coherence tomography results were excluded. Retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL), Bruch’s membrane opening-minimum rim width(BMO-MRW) and macular thickness(MT) were measured preoperatively, 1 and 6 mo after surgery using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT). Changes between preoperative and postoperative values were evaluated.RESULTS: A total of 87 eyes of 46 patients were included in this study. Preoperative RNFL, BMO-MRW and MT in microns(μm) were 100.77±10.39, 330.31±49.99 and 276.30±33.39, respectively. Postoperative RNFL, BMO-MRW and MT were 104.74±11.55, 348.32±54.05 and 279.83±22.65 1 mo after surgery and 102.93±11.17, 343.11±53.4 and 278.90±22.19 6 mo after surgery, respectively;which equals an increase of 3.93%, 5.45% and 1.27%,respectively, 1 mo after surgery, and 2.14%, 3.87% and 0.94% 6 mo after surgery. The differences between the preoperative and the postoperative RNFL and BMO-MRW values were statistically significant(P<0.001). Regarding MT values, there were not statistically significant differences(P=0.26).CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that FLALS does not have a negative impact on the structural status of the optic nerve head in healthy eyes, assessed by SD-OCT. | 17 | Effects of iodinated contrast on various magnetic resonance imaging sequences and field strength: Implications for characterization of hemorrhagic transformation in acute stroke therapy显示文摘AIM: To characterize the effects of iodinated contrast material(ICM) on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) comparing different sequences and magnetic fields, with emphasis to similarities/differences with well-known signal characteristics of hemorrhage in the brain. METHODS: Aliquots of iopamidol and iodixanol mixed with normal saline were scanned at 1.5T and 3T. Signal intensity(SI) was measured using similar spin-echo(SE)-T1, SE-T2, gradient-echo(GRE) and fluid-attenuationinversion-recovery(FLAIR) sequences at both magnets. Contrast to noise ratio(CNR)(SI contrast-SI saline/SD noise) for each aliquot were calculated and Kruskall-wallis test and graphic analysis was used to compare different pulse sequences and ICMs. RESULTS: Both ICM showed increased SI on SE-T1 and decreased SI on SE-T2, GRE and FLAIR at both 1.5T and 3T, as the concentration was increased. By CNR measurements, SE-T2 had the greatest conspicuity at 3T with undiluted iopamidol(92.6 ± 0.3, P < 0.00) followed by iodixanol(77.5 ± 0.9, P < 0.00) as compared with other sequences(CNR range: 15-40). While SE-T2 had greatest conspicuity at 1.5T with iopamidol(49.3 ± 1, P < 0.01), SE-T1 showed similar or slightly better conspicuity(20.8 ± 4) than SE-T2 with iodixanol(23 ± 1.7). In all cases, hypo-intensity on GRE was less conspicuous than on SE-T2.CONCLUSION: Iodixanol and iopamidol shorten T1 and T2 relaxation times at both 1.5T and 3T. Hypo-intensity due to shortened T2 relaxation time is significantly more conspicuous than signal changes on T1-WI, FLAIR or GRE. Variations in signal conspicuity according to pulse sequence and to type of ICM are exaggerated at 3T. We postulate T2 hypointensity with less GRE conspicuity differentiates ICM from hemorrhage; given the wellknown GRE hypointensity of hemorrhage.
