| 1 | Environmental issues from coal mining and their solutions显示文摘The environmental challenges from coal mining include coal mine accidents,land subsidence,damage to the water environment,mining waste disposal and air pollution.These are either environmental pollution or landscape change.A conceptual framework for solving mine environmental issues is proposed.Clean processes,or remediation measures,are designed to address environmental pollution.Restoration measures are proposed to handle landscape change.The total methane drainage from 56 Chinese high methane concentration coal mines is about 101.94 million cubic meters.Of this methane,19.32 million,35.58 million and 6.97 million cubic meters are utilized for electricity generation,civil fuel supplies and other industrial purposes,respectively.About 39% of the methane is emitted into the atmosphere.The production of coal mining wastes can be decreased 10% by reuse of mining wastes as underground fills,or by using the waste as fuel for power plants or for raw material to make bricks or other infrastructure materials.The proper use of mined land must be decided in terms of local physical and socio-economical conditions.In European countries more than 50% of previously mined lands are reclaimed as forest or grass lands.However,in China more than 70% of the mined lands are reclaimed for agricultural purposes because the large population and a shortage of farmlands make this necessary.Reconstruction of rural communities or native residential improvement is one environmental problem arising from mining.We suggest two ways to reconstruct a farmer's house in China. | BIAN, Zhengfu INYANG, Hilary I DANIELS, John L OTTO, Frank STRUTHERS, Sue | 2010 | Mining Science and Technology2010，20，2： | 47 |

| 3 | Thrust producing mechanisms in ray-inspired underwater vehicle propulsion显示文摘This paper describes a computational study of the hydrodynamics of a ray-inspired underwater vehicle conducted concurrently with experimental measurements.High-resolution stereo-videos of the vehicle's fin motions during steady swimming are obtained and used as a foundation for developing a high fidelity geometrical model of the oscillatory fin.A Cartesian grid based immersed boundary solver is used to examine the flow fields produced due to these complex artificial pectoral fin kinematics.Simulations are carried out at a smaller Reynolds number in order to examine the hydrodynamic performance and understand the resultant wake topology.Results show that the vehicle's fins experience large spanwise inflexion of the distal part as well as moderate chordwise pitching during the oscillatory motion.Most thrust force is generated by the distal part of the fin,and it is highly correlated with the spanwise inflexion.Two sets of inter-connected vortex rings are observed in the wake right behind each fin.Those vortex rings induce strong backward flow jets which are mainly responsible for the fin thrust generation. | Geng Liu Yan Ren Jianzhong Zhu Hilary Bart-Smith Haibo Dong | 2015 | Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2015，5，1： | 6 |
| 4 | Whole-genome sequencing to detect mutations associated with resistance to insecticides and Bt proteins in Spodoptera frugiperda显示文摘The fall armyworm(FAW),Spodoptera frugiperda,is a major pest native to the Americas that has recently invaded the Old World.Point mutations in the target-site proteins acetylcholinesterase-1(ace-1),voltage-gated sodium channel(VGSC)and ryanodine receptor(RyR)have been identified in S.frugiperda as major resistance mechanisms to organophosphate,pyrethroid and diamide insecticides respectively.Mutations in the adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette transporter C2 gene(ABCC2)have also been identified to confer resistance to Cry IF protein.In this study,we applied a whole-genome sequencing(WGS)approach to identify point mutations in the target-site genes in 150 FAW individuals collected from China,Malawi,Uganda and Brazil.This approach revealed three amino acid substitutions(A201S,G227A and F290V)of S.frugiperda ace-1,which are known to be associated with organophosphate resistance.The Brazilian population had all three ace-1 point mutations and the 227A allele(mean frequency=0.54)was the most common.Populations from China,Malawi and Uganda harbored two of the three ace-1 point mutations(A201S and F290V)with the 290V allele(0.47-0.58)as the dominant allele.Point mutations in VGSC(T929I,L932F and L1014F)and RyR(I4790M and G4946E)were not detected in any of the 150 individuals.A novel 12-bp insertion mutation in exon 15 of the ABCC2 gene was identified in some of the Brazilian individuals but absent in the invasive populations.Our results not only demonstrate robustness of the WGS-based genomic approach for detection of resistance mutations,but also provide insights for improvement of resistance management tactics in S.frugiperda. | Fang Guan Jianpeng Zhang Huiwen Shen Xingliang Wang Amanda Padovan Tom K.Walsh Wee Tek Tay Karl H.J.Gordon William James Cecilia Czepak Michael Hilary Otim Donald Kachigamba Yidong Wu | 2021 | Insect Science2021，28，3： | 6 |
| 5 | The evolution of integrative medical education: the influence of the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine显示文摘The University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine(Az CIM) was founded in 1994 with a primary focus of educating physicians in integrative medicine(IM). Twenty years later, IM has become an internationally recognized movement in medicine. With 40% of United States' medical schools having membership in the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health it is foreseeable that all medical students and residents will soon receive training in the principles and practices of IM. The Az CIM has the broadest range and depth of IM educational programs and has had a major infl uence on integrative medical education in the United States. This review describes the fellowship, residency and medical student programs at Az CIM as well as other signifi cant national drivers of IM education; it also points out the challenges faced in developing IM initiatives. The fi eld of IM has matured with new national board certifi cation in IM requiring fellowship training. Allied health professional IM educational courses, as well as integrative health coaching, assure that all members of the health care team can receive training. | 10 | Bio-inspired robotic manta ray powered by ionic polymer-metal composite artificial muscles显示文摘The manta ray(Manta birostris)is the largest species of rays that demonstrates excellent swimming capabilities via large-amplitude flapping of its pectoral fins.In this article,we present a bio-inspired robotic manta ray using ionic polymer–metal composite(IPMC)as artificial muscles to mimic the swimming behavior of the manta ray.The robot utilizes two artificial pectoral fins to generate undulatory flapping motions,which produce thrust for the robot.Each pectoral fin consists of an IPMC muscle in the leading edge and a passive polydimethylsiloxane membrane in the trailing edge.When the IPMC is actuated,the passive polydimethylsiloxane membrane follows the bending of the leading edge with a phase delay,which leads to an undulatory flapping motion on the fin.Characterization of the pectoral fin has shown that the fin can generate flapping motions with up to 100%tip deflection and 40◦twist angle.To test the free-swimming performance of the robot,a light and compact on-board control unit with a lithium ion polymer battery has been developed.The experimental results have shown that the robot can swim at 0.067 BL/s with portable power consumption of under 2.5 W. | Zheng Chen Tae I.Um Hilary Bart-Smith | 2012 | International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials2012，3，4： | 3 |

| 20 | An Effective Long String Searching Algorithm towards Component Security Testing显示文摘In the execution of method invocation sequences to test component security,abnormal or normal information is generated and recorded in a monitor log. By searching abnormal information from monitor log,the exceptions that the component has can be determined. To facilitate the searching process,string searching methods could be employed. However,current approaches are not effective enough to search long pattern string. In order to mine the specific information with less number of matches,we proposed an improved Sunday string searching algorithm in this paper. Unlike Sunday algorithm which does not make use of the already matched characters,the proposed approach presents two ideas — utilizing and recycling these characters. We take advantage of all matched characters in main string,if they are still in the matchable interval compared with pattern string,to increase the distance that pattern string moves backwards. Experimental analysis shows that,compared to Sunday algorithm,our method could greatly reduce the matching times,if the scale of character set constituting both main string and pattern string is small,or if the length of pattern string is long.
