| 1 | Control of Bird Feeding Behavior by Tannin1 through Modulating the Biosynthesis of Polyphenols and Fatty Acid-Derived Volatiles in Sorghum显示文摘Bird predation during seed maturation causes great loss to agricultural production.In this study,through GWAS analysis of a large-scale sorghum germplasm diversity panel,we identified that Tannin1,which encodes a WD40 protein functioning in the WD40/MYB/bHLH complex,controls bird feeding behavior in sorghum.Metabolic profiling analysis showed that a group of sorghum accessions preferred by birds contain mutated tan1-a/b alleles and accumulate significantly lower levels of anthocyanins and condensed tannin compounds.In contrast,a variety of aromatic and fatty acid-derived volatiles accumulate at significantly higher levels in these bird-preference accessions.We subsequently conducted both sparrow feeding and sparrow volatile attractant assays,which confirmed,respectively,the antifeedant and attractant functions of these differentially accumulated metabolites.In addition,the connection between the biosynthesis pathway of anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin and the pathway of fatty acid–derived volatile biosynthesis was demonstrated by discovering that Tannin1 complex modulates fatty acid biosynthesis by regulating the expression of SbGL2 in sorghum,thus affecting the accumulation of fatty acid-derived volatiles.Taken together,our study identified Tannin1 as the gene underlying the major locus controlling bird feeding behavior in sorghum,illustrating an example of the identification of an ecologically impactful molecular mechanism from field observation and providing significant insights into the chemistry of bird–plant ecological interactions. | Peng Xie Jiayang Shi Sanyuan Tang Chengxuan Chen Aimal Khan Fengxia Zhang Ying Xiong Chao Li Wei He Guodong Wang Fumin Lei Yaorong Wu Qi Xie | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,10: | 8 |

| 3 | Fe–Mn/MCM-41: Preparation,Characterization,and Catalytic Activity for Methyl Orange in the Process of Heterogeneous Fenton Reaction显示文摘Active Fe-and Mn-loaded MCM-41(Fe–Mn/MCM-41),which was synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction followed by impregnation,is used in the heterogeneous Fenton reaction to degrade methyl orange(MO) in aqueous solution. The synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,N_2 adsorption–desorption isotherm analysis,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Compared with Fe/MCM-41 and Mn/MCM-41,Fe–Mn/MCM-41 showed higher activity for MO degradation and mineralization. Effects of various operating parameters,such as pH,Mn content,and H_2O_2 dosage,on the degradation process were subsequently investigated. Results of experiments on the effect of radical scavengers revealed that the degradation of MO could be attributed to oxidation by HO_·. | 5 | Integrative taxonomy of the Russet Bush Warbler Locustella mandelli complex reveals a new species from central China显示文摘Background: The Russet Bush Warbler Locustella(previously Bradypterus) mandelli complex occurs in mountains in the eastern Himalayas, southern China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The taxonomy has been debated,with one(L. seebohmi) to four(L. seebohmi, L. mandelli, L. montis and L. timorensis) species having been recognised.Methods: We used an integrative approach, incorporating analyses of morphology, vocalizations and a molecular marker, to re-evaluate species limits in the L. mandelli complex.Results: We found that central Chinese L. mandelli differed from those from India through northern Southeast Asia to southeast China in plumage, morphometrics and song. All were easily classified by song, and(wing + culmen)/tail ratio overlapped only marginally. Both groups were reciprocally monophyletic in a mitochondrial cytochrome b(cytb) gene tree, with a mean divergence of 1.0 ± 0.2%. They were sympatric and mostly altitudinally segregated in the breeding season in southern Sichuan province. We found that the Mt Victoria(western Myanmar) population differed vocally from other L. mandelli, but no specimens are available. Taiwan Bush Warbler L. alishanensis was sister to the L. mandelli complex, with the most divergent song. Plumage, vocal and cytb evidence supported the distinctness of the south Vietnamese L. mandelli idonea. The Timor Bush Warbler L. timorensis, Javan Bush Warbler L.montis and Benguet Bush Warbler L. seebohmi differed distinctly in plumage, but among-population song variation in L. montis exceeded the differences between some populations of these taxa, and mean pairwise cytb divergences were only 0.5–0.9%. We also found that some L. montis populations differed morphologically.Conclusions: We conclude that the central Chinese population of Russet Bush Warbler represents a new species,which we describe herein, breeding at mid elevations in Sichuan, Shaanxi, Hubei, Hunan and Guizhou provinces.The taxonomic status of the other allopatric populations is less clear. However, as they differ to a degree comparable with that of the sympatric L. mandelli and the new species, we elevate L. idonea to species status, and retain L. seebohmi and L. montis as separate species, the latter with timorensis as a subspecies. | 6 | Catalytic performances of heteropoly compounds supported on dealuminated ultra-stable Y zeolite for liquid-phase esterification显示文摘A series of catalysts of 12-Phosphotungstic acid (PW) and its cesium salts immobilizedon dealuminated ultra-stable Y zeolite (DUSY) were prepared. Their specific surface area and acidstrength were characterized, and their catalytic activity, selectivity and stability were evaluated in theliquid-phase esterification of acetic acid with n-butanol. It was found that the catalytic activity could beimproved remarkably by introducing PW onto dealuminated USY (from 49.5% to 86.4%). Howeverthis obvious promotion effect of PW could not be observed on USY supported PW catalyst, whichshowed rather low conversion of less than 25.0%. The supported cesium salt of PW on DUSY catalysgave a very high conversion of n-butanol of 94.6% and the 100% selectivity for n-butyl acetate. Thecatalytic stability test revealed that after 5 reaction cycles, the catalytic activity over PW/DUSY drastically dropped to 47.6%, by contrast, the PW cesium salt/DUSY still showed a high conversion o81.6%. The leaching test for catalysts in water showed that the decrease of activity was closely associated with the solubility of the active heteropoly components on supports into the polar solvent, whichindicates that the catalytic deactivation was mainly due to the lose of the heteropoly species in thereaction medium. Binary discernibility matrix, as a representative approach, has many interesting superior properties and has been rapidly developed to find intuitive and easy to understand knowledge. However, at present, the binary discernibility matrix is mainly adopted in the complete information system. It is a challenging topic how to achieve the attribute reduction by using binary discernibility matrix in incomplete information system. A form of generalized binary discernibility matrix is further developed for a number of representative extended rough set models that deal with incomplete information systems. Some useful properties and criteria are introduced for judging the attribute core and attribute relative reduction. Thereafter, a new algorithm is formulated which supports attribute core and attribute relative reduction based on the generalized binary discernibility matrix. This algorithm is not only suitable for consistent information systems but also inconsistent information systems. | 12 | An application of the LTP_DSEF model to heavy precipitation forecasts of landfalling tropical cyclones over China in 2018显示文摘Recently, a track-similarity-based Dynamical-Statistical Ensemble Forecast(LTP_DSEF) model has been developed in an attempt to predict heavy rainfall from Landfalling Tropical cyclones(LTCs). In this study, the LTP_DSEF model is applied to predicting heavy precipitation associated with 10 LTCs occurring over China in 2018. The best forecast scheme of the model with optimized parameters is obtained after testing 3452 different schemes for the 10 LTCs. Then, its performance is compared to that of three operational dynamical models. Results show that the LTP_DSEF model has advantages over the three dynamical models in predicting heavy precipitation accumulated after landfall, especially for rainfall amounts greater than 250 mm. The model also provides superior or slightly inferior heavy rainfall forecast performance for individual LTCs compared to the three dynamical models. In particular, the LTP_DSEF model can predict heavy rainfall with valuable threat scores associated with certain LTCs, which is not possible with the three dynamical models. Moreover, the model can reasonably capture the distribution of heavier accumulated rainfall, albeit with widespread coverage compared to observations. | 15 | Analysis of human infectious avian influenza virus:Hemagglutinin genetic characteristics in Asia and Africa from 2004 to 2009显示文摘In the present study,we used nucleotide and protein sequences of avian influenza virus H5N1,which were obtained in Asia and Africa,analyzed HA proteins using ClustalX1.83 and MEGA4.0,and built a genetic evolutionary tree of HA nucleotides.The analysis revealed that the receptor specificity amino acid of A/HK/213/2003,A/Turkey/65596/2006 and etc mutated into QNG,which could bind withá-2,3 galactose andá-2,6 galactose.A mutation might thus take place and lead to an outbreak of human infections of avian influenza virus.The mutations of HA protein amino acids from 2004 to 2009 coincided with human infections provided by the World Health Organization,indicating a“low–high–highest–high–low”pattern.We also found out that virus strains in Asia are from different origins:strains from Southeast Asia and East Asia are of the same origin,whereas those from West Asia,South Asia and Africa descend from one ancestor.The composition of the phylogenetic tree and mutations of key site amino acids in HA proteins reflected the fact that the majority of strains are regional and long term,and virus diffusions exist between China,Laos,Malaysia,Indonesia,Azerbaijan,Turkey and Iraq.We would advise that pertinent vaccines be developed and due attention be paid to the spread of viruses between neighboring countries and the dangers of virus mutation and evolution. | Jirong ZHANG Fumin LEI | 2010 | Integrative Zoology2010,5,3: | 2 |

Utilizing a Pt crucible, the slag was equilibrated with a mixture of gases, namely, CO, CO2, SO2 and N2 to provide the partial pressure of oxygen and sulphur. It was shown that at fixed FetO and Al2O3 contents and a fixed {(%CaO)+(%MgO)}/(%SiO2) ratio, the sulphide capacity decreases with increasing MgO content. At a constant (%CaO)/(%SiO2) ratio and constant MgO and Al2O3 contents, increas- ing the FetO content of the slags also results in an increase of the sulphide capacity. | 20 | Effects of storm waves on rapid deposition of sediment in the Yangtze Estuary channel显示文摘Recent research on short-term topographic change in the Yangtze Estuary channel under storm surge conditions is briefly summarized. The mild-slope, Boussinesq and action balance equations are compared and analyzed. The action balance equation, SWAN, was used as a wave numerical model to forecast strong storm waves in the Yangtze Estuary. The spherical coordinate system and source terms used in the equation are described in this paper. The significant wave height and the wave orbital motion velocity near the bottom of the channel during 20 m/s winds in the EES direction were simulated, and the model was calibrated with observation data of winds and waves generated by Tropical Cyclone 9912. The distribution of critical velocity for incipient motion along the bottom was computed according to the threshold velocity formula for bottom sediment. The mechanism of rapid deposition is analyzed based on the difference between the root-mean-square value of the near-bottom wave orbital motion velocity and the bottom critical tractive velocity. The results show that a large amount of bottom sediments from Hengsha Shoal and Jiuduan Shoal are lifted into the water body when 20 m/s wind is blowing in the EES direction. Some of the sediments may enter the channel with the cross-channel current, causing serious rapid deposition.
