| 2 | Novel Strategy for Synthesis of High Quality CdTe Nanocrystals in Aqueous Solution显示文摘A novel aqueous route for the synthesis of high-quality CdTe nanocrystals(NCs) is presented in this article. With both glutathione(GSH) and cysteine[n(GSH):n(cysteine)=1:3] as stabilizers, high-quality CdTe NCs with controllable photoluminescence(PL) wavelength from 500 to 630 nm can be prepared within 4 h. As-prepared CdTe NCs show higher photoluminescence quantum yields(PLQY) compared with CdTe NCs prepared via other aqueous methods. | 4 | Ectopic osteogenesis and angiogenesis regulated by porous architecture of hydroxyapatite scaffolds with similar interconnecting structure in vivo显示文摘The macro-pore sizes of porous scaffold play a key role for regulating ectopic osteogenesis and angiogenesis but many researches ignored the influence of interconnection between macro-pores with different sizes.In order to accurately reveal the relationship between ectopic osteogenesis and macro-pore sizes in dorsal muscle and abdominal cavities of dogs,hydroxyapatite(HA)scaffolds with three different macro-pore sizes of 500–650,750–900 and 1100–1250 mm were prepared via sugar spheres-leaching process,which also had similar interconnecting structure determined by keeping the d/s ratio of interconnecting window diameter to macro-pore size constant.The permeability test showed that the seepage flow of fluid through the porous scaffolds increased with the increase of macro-pore sizes.The cell growth in three scaffolds was not affected by the macro-pore sizes.The in vivo ectopic implantation results indicated that the macro-pore sizes of HA scaffolds with the similar interconnecting structure have impact not only the speed of osteogenesis and angiogenesis but also the space distribution of newly formed bone.The scaffold with macro-pore sizes of 750–900 mm exhibited much faster angiogenesis and osteogenesis,and much more uniformly distribution of new bone than those with othermacro-pore sizes.This work illustrates the importance of a suitable macro-pore sizes in HA scaffolds with the similar interconnecting structure which provides the environment for ectopic osteogenesis and angiogenesis. | Jinyu Li Wei Zhi Taotao Xu Feng Shi Ke Duan JianxinWang Yandong Mu Jie Weng | 2016 | Regenerative Biomaterials2016,3,5: | 16 |
| 5 | Astragaloside Ⅳ inhibits pathological functions of gastric cancer-associated fibroblasts显示文摘AIM To investigate the inhibitory effect of astragaloside IV on the pathological functions of cancer-associated fibroblasts,and to explore the underlying mechanism.METHODS Paired gastric normal fibroblast(GNF) and gastric cancer-associated fibroblast(GCAF) cultures were established from resected tissues. GCAFs were treated with vehicle control or different concentrations of astragaloside Ⅳ. Conditioned media were prepared from GNFs,GCAFs,control-treated GCAFs,and astragaloside Ⅳ-treated GCAFs,and used to culture BGC-823 human gastric cancer cells. Proliferation,migration and invasion capacities of BGC-823 cells were determined by MTT,wound healing,and Transwell invasion assays,respectively. The action mechanism of astragaloside Ⅳ was investigated by detecting the expression of micro RNAs and the expression and secretion of the oncogenic factor,macrophage colonystimulating factor(M-CSF),and the tumor suppressive factor,tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2(TIMP2),in different groups of GCAFs. The expression of the oncogenic pluripotency factors SOX2 and NANOG in BGC-823 cells cultured with different conditioned media was also examined.RESULTS GCAFs displayed higher capacities to induce BGC-823 cell proliferation,migration,and invasion than GNFs(P < 0.01). Astragaloside Ⅳ treatment strongly inhibited the proliferation-,migration-and invasion-promoting capacities of GCAFs(P < 0.05 for 10 μmol/L,P < 0.01 for 20 μmol/L and 40 μmol/L). Compared with GNFs,GCAFs expressed a lower level of micro RNA-214(P < 0.01) and a higher level of micro RNA-301 a(P < 0.01). Astragaloside Ⅳ treatment significantly upregulated micro RNA-214 expression(P < 0.01) and down-regulated micro RNA-301 a expression(P < 0.01) in GCAFs. Reestablishing the micro RNA expression balance subsequently suppressed M-CSF production(P < 0.01) and secretion(P < 0.05),and elevated TIMP2 production(P < 0.01) and secretion(P < 0.05). | 6 | Sequential use of transarterial chemoembolization and percutaneous cryosurgery for hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of sequential use of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and percutaneous cryosurgery for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Four hundred and twenty patients were enrolled in this study. The patients, who were considered to have unresectable tumors due to their location or size or comorbidity, were divided into sequential TACE-cryosurgery (sequential) group (n = 290) and cryosurgery alone (cryoalone) group (n = 130). Patients in the sequential group tended to have larger tumors and a greater number of tumors than those in the cryo-alone group. Tumors larger than 10 cm in diameter were only seen in the sequential group. TACE was performed with the routine technique and percutaneous cryosurgery was conducted under the guidance of ultrasound 2-4 wk after TACE. RESULTS: During a mean follow-up period of 42 ± 17 mo (range, 24-70 mo), the local recurrence rateat the ablated area was 17% for all patients, 11% and 23% for patients in sequential group and cryoalone groups, respectively (P = 0.001). The overall 1-, 2-, 3-, 4and 5-year survival rate was 72%, 57%, 47%, 39% and 31%, respectively. The 1and 2-year survival rates (71% and 61%) in sequential group were similar to those (73% and 54%) in cryo-alone group (P = 0.69 and 0.147), while the 4and 5-year survival rates were 49% and 39% in sequential group, higher than those (29% and 23%) in cryo-alone group (P = 0.001). Eighteen patients with large HCC (> 5 cm in diameter) survived for more than 5 years after sequential TACE while no patient with large HCC (> 5 cm in diameter) survived more than 5 years after cryosurgery. The overall complication rate was 24%, and the complication rates were 21% and 26% for the sequential and cryo-alone groups, respectively (P = 0.06). The incidence of hepatic bleeding was higher in cryo-alone group than in sequential group (P = 0.02). Liver crack only occurred in two patients of the cryoalone group. CONCLUSION: Pre-cryosurgical TACE can increase the cryoablation efficacy and decrease its adverse effects, especially bleeding. | 8 | Combination treatment with comprehensive cryoablation and immunotherapy in metastatic hepatocellular cancer显示文摘AIM: To retrospectively assess the effect of comprehensive cryosurgery (ablation of intraand extra-hepatic tumors) plus dendritic cell-cytokine-induced killer cell immunotherapy in metastatic hepatocellular cancer. METHODS: We divided 45 patients into cryo-immunotherapy (21 patients), cryotherapy (n = 12), immunotherapy (n = 5) and untreated (n = 7) groups. Overall survival (OS) after diagnosis of metastatic hepatocellular cancer was assessed after an 8-year follow-up. RESULTS: Median OS was higher following cryo-immu-notherapy (32 mo) or cryotherapy (17.5 mo; P < 0.05) than in the untreated group (3 mo) and was higher in the cryo-immunotherapy group than in the cryotherapy group (P < 0.05). In the cryo-immunotherapy group, median OS was higher after multiple treatments (36.5 mo) than after a single treatment (21 mo; P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Cryotherapy and, especially, cryoimmunotherapy significantly increased OS in metastatic hepatocellular cancer patients. | 9 | Antagonistic Activities of Volatiles from Four Strains of Bacillus spp. and Paenibacillus spp. Against Soil-Borne Plant Pathogens显示文摘The four effective antagonistic Bacillus strains,isolated from the rhizosphere soil of cucumber in a greenhouse,produced antifungal volatiles. These volatiles strongly inhibited the growth of the most tested pathogenic fungi with wide host plants,induced the mycelial morphological abnormalities,and decreased the sclerotoid production of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in sealed plates. Spores of Botrytis cinerea exposed to these volatiles for 24-48 h in cavity slides cracked and the sporaceous inclusion became brown and effused to the suspension. An interesting phenomenon observed was that all the bacterial volatiles exhibited intense inhibitory activities against the pigment formation of tested pathogenic fungi,including Ascochyta citrullina,Alternaria solani,Alternaria brassicae,and so on. Interactions mediated by microbial volatiles could be widespread in soils,and volatiles may play an important role in reducing disease levels. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rDNA sequence placed the four bacteria in three species Paenibacillus polymyxa (BMP-11),Bacillus subtilis (BL02),and Bacillus pumilus (BSH-4 and ZB13). Through headspace sampling and GC-MS analysis,a rich profile was found from B. subtilis and overlapping volatile patterns could be found among the different species. | 11 | One-stop strategy for treatment of atrial fibrillation:feasibility and safety of combining catheter ablation and left atrial appendage closure in a single procedure显示文摘Background:Catheter ablation is effective in restoring sinus rhythm and left atrial appendage closure(LAAC)is increasingly used for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF).We aimed to observe the feasibility and safety of performing AF ablation and LAAC in a single(one-stop)procedure.Methods:Consecutive AF patients who underwent the combined procedure of AF ablation and LAAC with WATCHMAN device between March 2017 and September 2018 were prospectively enrolled.Baseline and intra-procedural parameters were evaluated.Three-month and subsequent 1-year follow-up were performed in all and earlier-enrolled subjects,respectively.Results:A total of 178 AF patients(94 males,68.9±8.1 years)underwent the one-stop procedure with CHA2DS2-VASc score 3.3±1.5 and HAS-BLED score 1.6±1.0,respectively.Pulmonary vein isolation was achieved in all patients while additional linear ablation was applied if the operator deemed necessary,yielding immediate ablation success rate of 98.9%(176/178).In the subsequent LAAC,satisfactory seal(residual leak<5 mm)was achieved in all patients.One stroke and four cardiac perforations occurred peri-operatively.At 3-month follow-up,sinus rhythm and satisfactory seal were maintained in 153/178(86.0%)and 178/178(100%)patients,respectively.One stroke and one delayed cardiac tamponade occurred,while no device-related thrombus or device migration was observed.During the 1-year follow-up for the earlier enrolled subjects,52/72(72.2%)of the patients maintained sinus rhythm.There was no stroke or systemic embolism observed.Conclusion:Combining catheter ablation and LAAC in a single procedure can be successfully and safely performed in non-valvular AF patients of Chinese population. | Mu Chen Zhi-Quan Wang Qun-Shan Wang Jian Sun Peng-Pai Zhang Xiang-Fei Feng Wei Li Ying Yu Bo Liu Bin-Feng Mo Rui Zhang Mei Yang Chang-Qi Gong Ming-Zhe Zhao Yi-Chi Yu Yan Zhao Qiu-Fen Lu Yi-Gang Li | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,12: | 11 |
| 12 | Antifungal,Insecticidal and Herbicidal Properties of Volatile Components from Paenibacillus polymyxa Strain BMP-11显示文摘The volatiles produced by Paenibacillus polymyxa strain BMP-11 which was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of cucumber in a greenhouse were analyzed by SPME-GC-MS.Based on the preliminary test,three kinds of purchased commercial products 1-octen-3-ol,benzothiazole and citronellol were chosen to give further assessment of their bioactivity.Antifungal bioassays in sealed dishes revealed that those three compounds strongly inhibited the mycelia growth of the eight pathogens at a low treatment dosage and induced the mycelial morphological abnormalities.During the experiment,we even found that citronellol completely prevented the pigment production of the tested fungus,Fusarium oxysporum,however,1-octen-3-ol and benzothiazole had slight effect.The germination was inhibited to different degrees when spores of Botrytis cinerea exposed to these compounds for 24 h in water agar plate.Furthermore,fumigation results showed that 1-octen-3-ol and benzothiazole had strong toxicity against Tribolium castaneum,LC50 was 16.76 and 3.50 mg L-1,respectively.The fumigation activity was also found similar to the positive control,1,3-dichloropropene (LC50 =10.13 mg L-1).Results of herbicidal assays showed that tested compounds had inhibitory effects on the seed germination and seedling growth of Amaranthus retroflexus,Echinochloa crusgalli and Chenopodium album.Findings of the present study suggested that the antifungal,insecticidal and herbicidal properties of the components were contained in volatiles.These agents or even their derivatives may have a potential to be used as fungicide,insecticide as well as herbicide. | ZHAO Li-jing YANG Xiao-nan LI Xiang-ying MU Wei LIU Feng | 2011 | Agricultural Sciences in China2011,10,5: | 10 |

| 14 | Tanshinone ⅡA improves functional recovery in spinal cord injury-induced lower urinary tract dysfunction显示文摘Tanshinone ⅡA, extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, exerts neuroprotective effects through its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties. This study intravenously injected tanshinone ⅡA 20 mg/kg into rat models of spinal cord injury for 7 consecutive days. Results showed that tanshinone ⅡA could reduce the inflammation, edema as well as compensatory thickening of the bladder tissue, improve urodynamic parameters, attenuate secondary injury, and promote spinal cord regeneration. The number of hypertrophic and apoptotic dorsal root ganglion(L_6–S_1) cells was less after treatment with tanshinone ⅡA. The effects of tanshinone ⅡA were similar to intravenous injection of 30 mg/kg methylprednisolone. | 15 | Pathological and High Resolution CT Findings in Churg-Strauss Syndrome显示文摘Objective To investigate the Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) associated lung involvement,concentrating on clinical characteristics,pathological findings of lung involvements,response to treatment,and prognosis.Methods We retrospectively analyzed the characters of the clinical manifestations,thin-section CT and pathological findings of CSS.The study involved 16 patients.Clinical data were obtained by chart review.All patients underwent transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB).Six of them underwent surgical lung biopsy as well.Results The patients included 7 men and 9 women,aged from 14 to 61 years (median,47.5 years).Extrathoracic organs involved included nervous system (7/16) and skin (5/16).Respiratory symptoms included cough (12/16),exertional dyspnea (11/16),hemoptysis (4/16),and chest pain (3/16).CT findings included bilateral ground-glass opacities (12/16),bilateral patchy opacities (12/16),and centrilobular nodules (6/16).The pathological findings of TBLB demonstrated increased eosinophils (3/16),vasculitis (3/16),and interstitial pneumonia (16/16).The pathological findings of surgical lung biopsy of 6 cases showed necrotizing vasculitis in 4 cases,capillaries in 5,eosinophilic pneumonia in 3,granulomas in 2,and airway abnormalities in 3.All patients improved in symptoms after therapy during the study period (range,3 to 51 months;median,15 months).Conclusions Asthma may be present in CSS patient when there is bronchial involvement.Ground-glass opacities and consolidation seen on high-resolution CT reflect the presence of eosinophilic pneumonia,vasculitis,and pulmonary alveolar hemorrhage.TBLB has significant limitations for the diagnosis of CSS.Early diagnosis and therapy can result in satisfactory prognosis. | Rui-e Feng Wen-bing Xu Ju-hong Shi Artin Mahmoudi Wen-bing MU Wen-jie Zheng Yuan-jue Zhu Hong-rui Liu | 2011 | Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2011,26,1: | 8 |
| 16 | Application of video-assisted thoracic surgery in the standard operation for thoracic tumors显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the short-term outcomes of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) for thoracic tumors. Methods: The data of 1,790 consecutive patients were retrospectively reviewed. These patients underwent VATS pulmonary resections, VATS esophagectomies, and VATS resections of mediastinal tumors or biopsies at the Cancer Institute & Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences between January 2009 and January 2012. Results: There were 33 patients converted to open thoracotomy (OT, 1.84%). The overall morbidity and mortality rate was 2.79% (50/1790) and 0.28% (5/1790), respectively. The overall hospitalization and chest tube duration were shorter in the VATS lobectomy group (n=949) than in the open thoracotomy (OT) lobectomy group (n=753). There were no significant differences in morbidity rate, mortality rate and operation time between the two groups. In the esophageal cancer patients, no significant difference was found in the number of nodal dissection, chest tube duration, morbidity rate, mortality rate, and hospital length of stay between the VATS esophagectomy group (n=81) and open esophagectomy group (n=81). However, the operation time was longer in the VATS esophagectomy group. In the thymoma patients, there was no significant difference in the chest tube duration, morbidity rate, mortality rate, and hospital length of stay between the VATS thymectomy group (n=41) and open thymectomy group (n=41). However, the operation time was longer in the VATS group. The median tumor size in the VATS thymectomy group was comparable with that in the OT group. Conclusions: In early-stage (I/II) non-small cell lung cancer patients who underwent lobectomies, VATS is comparable with the OT approach with similar short-term outcomes. In patients with resectable esophageal cancer, VATS esophagectomy is comparable with OT esophagectomy with similar morbidity and mortality. VATS thymectomy for Masaoka stage I and II thymoma is feasible and safe, and tumor size is not contraindicated. | 20 | Newborn screening with targeted sequencing:a multicenter investigation and a pilot clinical study in China显示文摘Different newborn screening(NBS) programs have been practiced in many countries since the 1960 s. It is of considerable interest whether next-generation sequencing is applicable in NBS. We have developed a panel of 465 causative genes for 596 early-onset, relatively high incidence, and potentially actionable severe inherited diseases in our Newborn Screening with Targeted Sequencing(NESTS) program to screen 11,484 babies in 8 Women and Children’s hospitals nationwide in China retrospectively. The positive rate from preliminary screening of NESTS was 7.85%(902/11,484). With 45.89%(414/902) follow-up of preliminary positive cases, the overall clinically confirmative diagnosis rate of monogenic disorders was 12.07%(50/414), estimating an average of 0.95%(7.85% × 12.07%) clinical diagnosis rate, suggesting that monogenic disorders account for a considerable proportion of birth defects. The disease/gene spectrum varied in different regions of China. NESTS was implemented in a hospital by screening 3923 newborns to evaluate its clinical application. The turn-around time of a primary report, including the sequencing period of < 7 days, was within 11 days by our automatic interpretation pipeline.
