1Preservation of platelet function in patients with cirrhosis and thrombocytopenia undergoing esophageal variceal ligation显示文摘Background:Thrombocytopenia is a possible risk factor for bleeding after band ligation of esophageal varices.However,elevated von Willebrand factor(VWF)in cirrhosis improves platelet function and could decrease this risk.Our objective was to assess platelet function in patients with cirrhosis undergoing esophageal variceal ligation(EVL).Methods:The assessment consisted of platelet count,antigen and activity of VWF and VWF-cleaving protease ADAMTS-13 activity,and a platelet adhesion and aggregation test simulating vascular flow in vivo(Impact-RR)prior to EVL.Results:Totally 111 patients were divided into three groups according to platelet count:(1)<50×109/L(n=38,34.2%);(2)50×109/L to 100×109/L(n=47,42.3%);and(3)>100×109/L(n=26,23.4%).No statistically significant difference was found in the aggregate size of platelets[group 1:41.0(31.8–67.3)μm 2;group 2:47.0(33.8–71.3)μm 2;and group 3:47.0(34.0–66.0)μm 2;P=0.60]and no significant correlation was found between aggregate size and platelet count(Spearman r=0.07;P=0.47).Surface coverage was 4.1%(2.8%–6.7%),8.5%(4.0%–10.0%),and 9.0%(7.1%–12.0%)(P<0.001)in groups 1,2 and 3,respectively and correlated with platelet count(Spearman r=0.39;P<0.0001).There was no significant difference between groups in VWF or ADAMTS-13.Post-EVL bleeding occurred in six(5.4%)patients(n=2 in group 1,n=1 in group 2,and n=3 in group 3;P=0.32).Patients with bleeding had higher MELD scores[15.0(11.3–20.3)versus 12.0(10.0–15.0);P=0.025],but no difference was demonstrated for platelet function parameters.Conclusion:Platelet function is preserved even in the presence of thrombocytopenia,including in the patients with post-EVL bleeding.Evandro de Oliveira Souza Elbio Antonio D’Amico Tania Rubia Flores da Rocha Caroline Marcondes Ferreira Juliana Medeiros Batista Luiz Augusto CarneiroD’Albuquerque Flair Jose Carrilho Alberto Queiroz Farias 2020Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2020,19,6:3

4Calibration and validation of FAO-AquaCrop model to estimate the total biomass and yacon root yield显示文摘Due to the current water scarcity in the world,it is extremely important to improve the use of this natural and exhaustible resource in agriculture,by contributing to increase agricultural production and sustainability.Several models of crop growth simulation were developed to predict the edaphoclimatic effects on crop yield.These models are calibrated and validated for a given region using the data generated from field experiments.Therefore,the objective of this study was to calibrate and validate the FAO AquaCrop model for yacon(Smallanthus sonchifolius)crop in a tropical climate.The experiment was conducted in an experimental area located in the municipality of Ibatiba,state of Espírito Santo(Brazil)during the years of 2013 and 2014.The calibration was done using the Autumn planting and validation with the Winter and Spring plantings.For the statistical analysis,the coefficient of determination,Willmott concordance index,bias for the systematic error,root mean square error and the mean absolute error to test the model performance were used.In general,the FAO AquaCrop model predicted the root yield,total biomass and harvest index with acceptable accuracy,and with deviations of less than 6%for total and root biomass.Late planting of yacon showed a reduction in yield as well as total biomass.Ramon Amaro de Sales Alexandre Cândido Xavier Evandro Chaves de Oliveira Fábio Luiz de Oliveira Diego Mathias Natal da Silva Sávio da Silva Berilli 2020International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2020,13,3:1

10Eurytrematosis: An emerging and neglected disease in South Brazil显示文摘The trematodes of the genus Eurytrema are low pathogenic pancreatic parasites, but can be related to a decrease in cattle productive performance and eventually death. Parasitized animals develop chronic interstitial pancreatitis and may show a productive performance drop and emaciation. Human infection by Eurytrema sp. has already been reported in other countries as an incidental finding during autopsy or routine tests, but the parasite has not been found in humans in Brazil. However, it is possible that a large number of people could be infected, since parasitological tests have low sensitivity and the parasite is neglected as a pathogen for humans and even animals. Attempts to control and treat Eurytrematosis have generally presented low effectiveness. 11Ingredients from integral valorization of Isabel grape to formulate goat yogurt with stimulatory effects on probiotics and beneficial impacts on human colonic microbiota in vitro显示文摘Isabel grape(IG)products have high contents of phenolic compounds and fiber recognized for their positive impacts on microorganisms associated with health benefits to host.This study evaluated the effects of goat yogurts formulated with ingredients from IG integral valorization on the growth and metabolism of different probiotic strains,as well as on the population of selected bacterial groups and metabolic activity of human colonic microbiota in vitro.Goat yogurts with IG ingredients(IGI)stimulated the growth of tested Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotic strains during a 48-h cultivation,as well as decreased the pH values and enhanced the organic acid production.Goat yogurts with IGI increased the population of Lactobacillus spp.and Bifidobacterium spp.during a 24-h in vitro colonic fermentation.A stable Firmicutes:Bacteroidetes ratio close to 1 was found in media with goat yogurt formulations during the colonic fermentation,being similar to the effect caused by fructooligosaccharides.Goat yogurt formulations with IGI caused increased production of short-chain fatty acids and sugar consumption during colonic fermentation.Goat yogurts with IGI should be a valuable strategy for development of novel added-value foods with beneficial effects on gut microbiota and human health.Francyeli Araújo Silva Rita de Cássia Ramos do Egypto Queiroga Evandro Leite de Souza Glenise Bierhalz Voss Maria Manuela Estevez Pintado Margarida Angélica da Silva Vasconcelos 2023Food Science and Human Wellness2023,12,4:0
12Prognosis of forest production using machine learning techniques显示文摘Forest production and growth are obtained from statistical models that allow the generation of information at the tree or forest stand level.Although the use of regression models is common in forest measurement,there is a constant search for estimation procedures that provide greater accuracy.Recently,machine learning techniques have been used with satisfactory performance in measuring forests.However,methods such as Adaptive NeuroFuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)and Random Forest are relatively poorly studied for predicting the volume of wood in eucalyptus plantations in Brazil.Therefore,it is essential to check whether these techniques can provide gains in terms of accuracy.Thus,this study aimed to evaluate the use of Random Forest and ANFIS techniques in the prognosis of forest production.The data used come from continuous forest inventories carried out in stands of eucalyptus clones.The data were divided into 70%for training and 30%for validation.The algorithms used to generate rules in ANFIS were Subtractive Clustering and Fuzzy-C-Means.Besides,training was done with the hybrid algorithm(descending gradient and least squares)with the number of seasons ranging from 1 to 20.Several RFs were trained,varying the number of trees from 50 to 850 and the number of observations by five leaves to 35.Artificial neural networks and decision trees were also trained to compare the feasibility of the techniques.The evaluation of the estimates generated by the techniques for training and validation was calculated based on the following statistics:correlation coefficient(r),relative Bias(RB),and the relative root mean square error(RRMSE)in percentage.In general,the techniques studied in this work showed excellent performance for the training and validation data set with RRMSE values<6%,RB<0.5%,and r>0.98.The RF presented inferior statistics about the ANFIS for the prognosis of forest production.The Subtractive Clustering(SC)and Fuzzy-C-Means(FCM)algorithms provide accurate baseline and volume projection estimates;both techniques are good alternatives for selecting variables used in modeling forest production.Jeferson Pereira Martins Silva Mayra Luiza Marques da Silva Adriano Ribeiro de Mendonca Gilson Fernandes da Silva Antoˆnio Almeida de Barros Junior Evandro Ferreira da Silva Marcelo Otone Aguiar Jeangelis Silva Santos Nı´vea Maria Mafra Rodrigues 2023Information Processing in Agriculture2023,10,1:0
13Prognostic factors for progression of liver structural lesions in chronic hepatitis C patients显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory and histological variables capable of predicting the progression of hepatic structural disturbances in chronic hepatitis C patients during the time interval between two liver biopsies. METHODS: Clinical charts of 112 chronic hepatitis C patients were retrospectively analyzed, whereas liver biopsies were revised. Immunohistochemical detection of interferon receptor was based on the Envision-Peroxidase System. RESULTS: In the multivariate analysis, the variables in the age at first biopsy, ALT levels, presence of lymphoid aggregates and siderosis were the determinants of the best model for predicting the severity of the disease. The direct progression rate of hepatic structural lesions was significantly higher in untreated patients, intermediate in treated non-responders and lower in treated responders to antiviral therapy (non-treated vs responders, 0.22 ± 0.50 vs -0.15 ± 0.46, P = 0.0053). Immuno-expression of interferon receptor is not a relevant factor. CONCLUSION: The best predictors of the progression of fibrosis are age at the first liver biopsy, extent of ALT elevation, inflammation at liver histology and hepatic siderosis.
