Increased resistance of drought by Trichoderma harzianum fungal treatment correlates with increased secondary metabolites and proline content显示文摘Plant secondary metabolites play vital role in plant stress response. In this study we investigated whether root colonization of tomato(Solanum lycopersicum) infected by Trichoderma harzianum leads to alterations in the biosynthesis of secondary plant metabolites including phytohormones and osmolyte proline under drought stress. Exposure of tomato to drought caused a drastic decline in plant growth and physiological parameters. Tomato inoculated with T. harzianum showed increased root and shoot growth and chlorophyll pigments as compared to uninoculated controls as well as drought stressed plants. Proline and total soluble protein content was increased in plants inoculated with T. harzianum under both normal as well as drought conditions. An obvious increase in phenol and flavonoid content was observed due to T. harzianum. In addition, T. harzianum inoculated plants maintained higher levels of growth regulators indole acetic acid, indole butyric acid, and gibberellic acid under drought stress. Improved secondary metabolites which play an important role in plant stress tolerance by T. harzianum may have coordinately worked for bringing the growth regulation by protecting membranes from reactive oxygen species(ROS) and enhance plant growth through accessing more nutrients by root system. | Mona S.Alwhibi Abeer Hashem Elsayed Fathi Abd_Allah Abdulaziz A.Alqarawi Dina Wafi K.Soliman Stephan Wirth Dilfuza Egamberdieva | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,8: | 15
Integration of Metabolomics and Subcellular Organelle Expression Microarray to Increase Understanding the Organic Acid Changes in Post-harvest Citrus Fruit显示文摘Citric acid plays an important role in fresh fruit favor and its adaptability to post-harvest storage conditions. In order to explore organic acid regulatory mechanisms in post-harvest citrus fruit, systematic biological analyses were conducted on stored Hirado Buntan Pummelo(HBP;Citrus grandis)fruits.High-performance capillary electrophoresis, subcellular organelle expression microarray,real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-MS),and conventional physiological and biochemical analyses were undertaken. The results showed that the concentration of organic acids in HBP underwent a regular fuctuation.GC-MS-based metabolic profling indicated that succinic acid,g-aminobutyric acid(GABA),and glutamine contents increased, but 2-oxoglutaric acid content declined, which further confrmed that the GABA shunt may have some regulatory roles in organic acid catabolism processes. In addition, the concentration of organic acids was signifcantly correlated with senescence-related physiological processes, such as hydrogen peroxide content as well as superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities, which showed that organic acids could be regarded as important parameters for measuring citrus fruit post-harvest senescence processes. | Xiaohua Sun Andan Zhu Shuzhen Liu Ling Sheng Qiaoli Ma Li Zhang Elsayed Mohamed Elsayed Nishawy Yunliu Zeng Juan Xu Zhaocheng Ma Yunjiang Cheng Xiuxin Deng | 2013 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,11: | 14
Reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy following liver transplantation in Egyptian cirrhotic patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the reversibility of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE) following liver transplantation(LT) in Egyptian cirrhotic patients. METHODS This prospective study included twenty patients with biopsy-proven liver cirrhosis listed for LT and twenty ageand sex-matched healthy control subjects. All underwent neuro-psychiatric examination, laboratory investigations, radiological studies and psychometric tests including trail making test A(TMT A), TMT B, digit symbol test and serial dotting test. The psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score(PHES) was calculated for patients to diagnose MHE. Psychometric tests were repeated six months following LT in the cirrhotic patient group. RESULTS Before LT, psychometric tests showed highly significant deficits in cirrhotic patients in comparison to controls(P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant improvement in test values in the patient group after LT; however, their values were still significantly worse than those of the controls(P < 0.001). The PHES detected MHE in 16 patients(80%) before LT with a median value of -7 ± 3.5. The median PHES value was significantly improved following LT, reaching-4.5 ± 5(P < 0.001), and the number of patients with MHE decreased to 11(55%). The pre-transplant model for end-stage liver disease(MELD) score ≥ 15 was significantly related to the presence of post-transplant MHE(P = 0.005). More patients in whom reversal of MHE was observed had a pre-transplant MELD score < 15.CONCLUSION Reversal of MHE in cirrhotic patients could be achieved by LT, especially in those with a MELD score < 15. | Mahmoud A Osman Moataz M Sayed Khaled A Mansour Shereen A Saleh Wesam A Ibrahim Sara M Abdelhakam Mohamed Bahaa Wael A Yousry Hosam S Elbaz Reginia N Mikhail Azza M Hassan Ehab H Elsayed Dalia A Mahmoud | 2016 | World Journal of Hepatology2016,8,30: | 11
Medical management of patients after bariatric surgery: Principles and guidelines显示文摘Obesity is a major and growing health care concern. Large epidemiologic studies that evaluated the relationship between obesity and mortality, observed that a higher body-mass index(BMI) is associated with increased rate of death from several causes, among them cardiovascular disease; which is particularly true for those with morbid obesity. Being overweight was also associated with decreased survival in several studies. Unfortunately, obese subjects are often exposed to public disapproval because of their fatness which significantly affects their psychosocial behavior. All obese patients(BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) should receive counseling on diet, lifestyle, exercise and goals for weight management. Individuals with BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2 and those with BMI > 35 kg/m2 with obesity-related comorbidities; who failed diet, exercise, and drug therapy, should be considered for bariatric surgery. In current review article, we will shed light on important medical principles that each surgeon/gastroenterologist needs to know about bariatric surgical procedure, with special concern to the early post operative period. Additionally, we will explain the common complications that usually follow bariatric surgery and elucidate medical guidelines in their management. For the first 24 h after the bariatric surgery, the postoperative priorities include pain management, leakage, nausea and vomiting, intravenous fluid management, pulmonary hygiene, and ambulation. Patients maintain a low calorie liquid diet for the first few postoperative days that is gradually changed to soft solid food diet within two or three weeks following the bariatric surgery. Later, patients should be monitored for postoperative complications. Hypertension, diabetes, dumping syndrome, gastrointestinal and psychosomatic disorders are among the most important medical conditions discussed in this review. | Abd Elrazek Mohammad Ali Abd Elrazek Abduh Elsayed Mohamed Elbanna Shymaa E Bilasy | 2014 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2014,6,11: | 9
Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and micro-RNA in the diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C virus显示文摘BACKGROUND Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging has shown promise in the detection and quantification of hepatic fibrosis. In addition, the liver has numerous endogenous micro-RNAs(miRs) that play important roles in the regulation of biological processes such as cell proliferation and hepatic fibrosis.AIM To assess diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and miRs in diagnosing and staging hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C.METHODS This prospective study included 208 patients and 82 age-and sex-matched controls who underwent diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen, miR profiling, and liver biopsy. Pathological scoring was classified according to the METAVIR scoring system. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and miR were calculated and correlated with pathological scoring.RESULTS The ADC value decreased significantly with the progression of fibrosis, from controls(F0) to patients with early fibrosis(F1 and F2) to those with late fibrosis(F3 and F4)(median 1.92, 1.53, and 1.25 × 10^(-3) mm^2/s, respectively)(P = 0.001).The cut-off ADC value used to differentiate patients from controls was 1.83 × 10^(-3) mm^2/s with an area under the curve(AUC) of 0.992. Combining ADC and miR-200 b revealed the highest AUC(0.995) for differentiating patients from controls with an accuracy of 96.9%. The cut-off ADC used to differentiate early fibrosis from late fibrosis was 1.54 × 10^(-3) mm^2/s with an AUC of 0.866. The combination of ADC and miR-200 b revealed the best AUC(0.925) for differentiating early fibrosis from late fibrosis with an accuracy of 80.2%. The ADC correlated with miR-200 b(r =-0.61, P = 0.001), miR-21(r =-0.62, P = 0.001), and miR-29(r = 0.52,P = 0.001).CONCLUSION Combining ADC and miRs offers an alternative surrogate non-invasive diagnostic tool for diagnosing and staging hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C. | Tarek Besheer Hatem Elalfy Mohamed Abd El-Maksoud Ahmed Abd El-Razek Saher Taman Khaled Zalata Wagdy Elkashef Hossam Zaghloul Heba Elshahawy Doaa Raafat Wafaa Elemshaty Eman Elsayed Abdel-Hady El-Gilany Mahmoud El-Bendary | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,11: | 9
Manipulation of SlMXl for enhanced carotenoids accumulation and drought resistance in tomato显示文摘Plants are the ultimate source of nutrients in the human diet. To ensure adequate availability of high quality food for an increasing world population, traits including improved tolerance of stresses and nutrient levels need to be selected in crops, both individually and in combination. Here we report the identification of Sl MX1 encoding a MIXTA-like MYB transcription factor in tomato that simultaneously modulates drought resistance and metabolic processes through regulating key structural and regulatory genes of the corresponding pathways. Over-expression of Sl MX1 results in substantially increased drought tolerance and improved fruit quality, while knocking down Sl MX1 resulted in the opposite phenotypes. Our study indicates an effective way with multiple beneficial traits by genetic engineering of a single regulatory gene and can be a novel approach to breeding crops. | Mohamed Ewas Yanqiang Gao Shouchuang Wang Xianqing Liu Hongyan Zhang Elsayed M. | 7 | Pancreatic injury in patients with septic shock: A literature review显示文摘Sepsis and septic shock are life threatening condition associated with high mortality rate in critically-ill patients. This high mortality is mainly related to the inadequacy between oxygen delivery and cellular demand leading to the onset of multiorgan dysfunction. Whether this multiorgan failure affect the pancreas is not fully investigated. In fact, pancreatic injury may occur because of ischemia, overwhelming inflammatory response, oxidative stress, cellular apoptosis and/or metabolic derangement. Increased serum amylase and/or lipase levels are common in patients with septic shock. However, imaging test rarely reveal significant pancreatic damage. Whether pancreatic dysfunction does affect the prognosis of patients with septic shock or not is still a matter of debate. In fact, only few studies with limited sample size assessed the clinical relevance of the pancreatic injury in this group of patients. In this review, we aimed to describe the epidemiology and the physiopathology of pancreatic injury in septic shock patients, to clarify whether it requires specific management and to assess its prognostic value. Our main finding is that pancreatic injury does not significantly affect the outcome in septic shock patients. Hence, increased serum pancreatic enzymes without clinical features of acute pancreatitis do not require further imaging investigations and specific therapeutic intervention. | Anis Chaari Karim Abdel Hakim Kamel Bousselmi Mahmoud Etman Mohamed El Bahr Ahmed El Saka Eman Hamza Mohamed Ismail Elsayed Mahmoud Khalil Vipin Kauts William Francis Casey | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2016,8,7: | 8
Incidence and characteristics of HBV reactivation in hematological malignant patients in south Egypt显示文摘AIM:To investigate characteristics of hepatitis B virus(HBV)implicated in HBV reactivation in patients with hematological malignancies receiving immunosuppressive therapy.METHODS:Serum samples were collected from 53 patients with hematological malignancies negative for hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)before the start of and throughout the chemotherapy course.HBV reactivation was diagnosed when the HBsAg status changed from negative to positive after the initiation of chemotherapy and/or when HBV DNA was detected by realtime detection polymerase chain reaction(RTD-PCR).For detecting the serological markers of HBV infection,HBsAg as well as antibodies to the core antigen(antiHBc)and to the surface antigen were measured in the sera by CEIA.Nucleic acids were extracted from sera, and HBV DNA sequences spanning the S gene were amplified by RTD-PCR.The extracted DNA was further subjected to PCR to amplify the complete genome as well as the specific genomic sequences bearing the enhancerⅡ/core promoter/pre-core/core regions(nt1628-2364).Amplicons were sequenced directly.RESULTS:Thirty-five(66%)of the 53 HBsAg-negative patients were found to be negative serologically for antiHBc,and the remaining 18(34%)patients were positive for anti-HBc.Five of the 53(9.4%)patients with hematologic malignancies experienced HBV reactivation.Genotype D1 was detected in all five patients.Four types of mutant strains were detected in the S gene product of HBV strains and were isolated from 3 patients with HBV reactivation:T/S120,L143,and I126.HBV DNA was detected in the pretreatment HBsAg-negative samples in one of the five patients with HBV reactivation. In this patient, sequences encompassing the HBV full genome obtained from sera before the start of chemotherapy and at the time of de novo HBV hepatitis were detected and it showed 100%homology.Furthermore,in the phylogenetic tree, the sequences were clustered together, thereby indicating that this patient developed reactivation from an occult HBV infection.CONCLUSION:Past infection with HBV is a risk factor for HBV reactivation in Egypt.Mandatory anti-HBc screening prior to chemotherapy in patients with hematological malignancies is recommended. | Abeer Elkady Sahar Aboulfotuh Elsayed Mostafa Ali Douaa Sayed Nashwa M Abdel-Aziz Amany M Ali Shuko Murakami Sayuki Iijima Yasuhito Tanaka | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,37: | 7
Influence of bioactive sulphated polysaccharide-protein complexes on hepatocarcinogenesis, angiogenesis and immunomodulatory activities显示文摘Objective:To explore the in vivo anticancer,anti-angiogenesis and immunomodulatory efficacies of the bioactive polysaccharide isolated from cold aqueous extract of Jania rubens(JCEM) and Pterocladia capillacea(PCEM) as well as hot aqueous extract of Enteromorpha intestinalis(EHEM) against hepatocellular carcinoma rat model(HCC) and to study their chemical composition. Methods:The sugars and amino acids composition of the bioactive polysaccharides of JCEM,PCEM and EHEM were determined using gas liquid chromatography and amino acid analyzer, respectively. These polysaccharide extracts(20 mg/kg b.wt.for 5 weeks) were assessed on hepatocarcinogenesis in rats and α-fetoprotein(AFP),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),glypican-3(GPC-3),hepatocyte growth factor(HGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and Ig G levels were evaluated. Results:The GLC analysis of JCEM,PCEM and EHEM polysaccharide revealed the presence of 10,9 and10 sugars,in addition the amino acid analyser enable identification of 16,15 and 15 amino acids, respectively. These polysaccharide extracts of JCEM,PCEM and EHEM produced significant decrease in serum AFP,CEA,GPC-3,HGF and VEGF compared with untreated HCC group.JCEM,PCEM and EHEM had an immunostimulatory responses by increasing the IgG levels as compared by naive value(1.23,1.53 and 1.17 folds),respectively. The bioactive polysaccharides in HCC induced rats improved the humoral immune response. The photomicrographs of liver tissue sections of the groups of HCC treated with polysaccharide extracts of Jania rubens and Enteromorpha intestinalis showed intact histological structure. Moreover, fractions HE1,HE4,HE7 obtained from polysaccharide of EHEM showed moderate cytotoxic activity against Hep G2 in vitro with IC_(50) 73.1,42.6,76.2 μg/mL.However,fractions of PCEM and JCEM show no or weak cytotoxicity against Hep G2 in vitro where the cytotoxic activity of their crude polysaccharide extract proved synergetic effect. Conclusions:The pronounced antitumor activity of sulphated polysaccharide-protein complexes of JCEM and EHEM is due to direct cytotoxic activity,anti-hepatocarcinogensis,and anti-angiogenesis.In addition,JCEM,PCEM and EHEM had an immunostimulatory response and improved the humoral immune response in HCC induced rats. | Azza A.Matloub Hadeer A.Aglan Sahar Salah Mohamed El Souda Mona Elsayed Aboutabl Amany Sayed Maghraby Hanaa H.Ahmed | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,12: | 7

RNA-seq reveals mechanisms of SlMX1 for enhanced carotenoids and terpenoids accumulation along with stress resistance in tomato显示文摘Improving nutritional fruit quality and impacts important agro-traits such as biotic or abiotic stresses are extremely important for human civilization. Our previous study reported that manipulation of Sl MX1 gene enhanced carotenoids accumulation and drought resistance in tomato.Here,RNA-Seq analysis proved to be a very useful tool to provide insights into the regulatory mechanisms of Sl MX1 involved in stress resistance and enhanced secondary metabolites.Physiological analysis showed that overexpression of Sl MX1 results in substantially increased broad-spectrum tolerance to a wide-range of abiotic and biotic(fungus, bacteria, virus and insects) stresses in tomato. This research appears to be of remarkable interest because enhanced terpenoids content has been achieved by increasing trichome density. In addition,we reported two types of trichome which seems to be aberrant types in tomato. This study unravels the mechanism of regulation of Sl MX1,which simultaneously modulates resistance and metabolic processes through regulating key structural and regulatory genes of the corresponding pathways. | Mohamed Ewas Yangqiang Gao Farhan Ali Elsayed M. | 13 | Prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections and its relationship with socio-demographics and hygienic habits among male primary schoolchildren in Al-Ahsa,Saudi Arabia显示文摘Objective:To investigate the prevalence of different intestinal parasitic infections among male primary schoolchildren in Al-Ahsa,Saudi Arabia, and to explore the possible relative socioeconomic, environmental and behavioural sanitary correlates. Methods:A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed.A total of 1 289 male students aged from 7 to 12 years were selected randomly from 20 urban and 12 rural primary schools by multistage sampling method. Data collection was carried out by self administered questionnaire form to the parents/guardians of students and included inquires about socio-demographics,environmental conditions, and behavioural sanitary habits.Stool analysis was carried out to examine the presence of intestinal parasitic infections. Results:Overall prevalence of parasitic infections was 27.2%,more among rural students.Frequently encountered infections included Entamoeba histolytica/dispar(8.2%), Giardia lamblia(6.5%),Entamoeba coli(4.0%) and Enterobius vermicularis(1.6%).Logistic regression revealed that lower maternal educational level and occupational status, low family income, big family size, poor personal hygienic practices and positive history of previous intestinal infections among family members increased the likelihood of infections. Conclusions: Although of low magnitude, intestinal parasitic infections still represent a public health concern among male schoolchildren in Al-Ahsa region.Socio-demographic and poor personal hygienic habits are the main predictors for these infections. | Hamdan Ibrahim Al-Mohammed Tarek Tawfik Amin Elsayed Aboulmagd Hatem Refaat Hablus Burhan Omar Zaza | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,11: | 3
Mycorrhiza improves plant growth and photosynthetic characteristics of tea plants in response to drought stress显示文摘Tea plants are sensitive to soil moisture deficit, with the level of soil water being a critical factor affecting their growth and quality.Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)can improve water and nutrient absorption, but it is not clear whether AMF can improve the photosynthetic characteristics of tea plants.A potted study was conducted to determine the effects of Claroideoglomus etunicatum on plant growth, leaf water status, pigment content, gas exchange, and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in Camellia sinensis cv.Fuding Dabaicha under well-watered(WW)and drought stress(DS)conditions.Root mycorrhizal colonization and soil hyphal length were significantly reduced by the eightweek DS treatment.AMF inoculation displayed a significant increase in shoot and root biomass production. The relative water content, leaf water potential, nitrogen balance index, pigment content, maximum photometric effect(Fv/Fm,QY_max),and steady-state photometric effect Y(II)(QY_Lss)decreased dramatically, while the leaf water saturation deficit and steady-state non-photochemical fluorescence quenching(NPQ_Lss)generally increased under DS conditions.Mycorrhizal treatment induced significantly higher relative water content, leaf water potential, nitrogen balance index, pigment(chlorophyll, flavonoid, and anthocyanin)content, net photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO_(2)concentration,QY_max,and QY_Lss;however,it resulted in a lower leaf water saturation deficit and NPQ_Lss under both WW and DS conditions,as compared with nonmycorrhizal plants. These results imply that AMF promoted tea plant growth and alleviated negative effects of DS by promoting gas exchange, regulating the water status of leaves, and regulating photosynthetic parameters. | FENGJUN DAI ZIYI RONG QIANGSHENG WU ELSAYED FATHI ABD_ALLAH CHUNYAN LIU SHENGRUI LIU | 2022 | BIOCELL2022,46,5: | 2
Characteristics of escape mutations from occult hepatitis B virus infected patients with hematological malignancies in South Egypt显示文摘AIM To investigate the prevalence and virological characteristics of occult hepatitis B virus(HBV) infections in patients with hematological malignancies in South Egypt.METHODS Serum samples were collected from 165 patients with hematological malignancies to monitor titers of HBV DNA, hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag), and antibodies to HBV core(anti-HBc) and surface antigens. Serum samples negative for HBs Ag and positive for anti-HBc were subjected to nucleic acid extraction and HBV DNA detection by real-time polymerase chain reaction. DNA sequences spanning the S region were analyzed in cases with occult HBV infection. In vitro comparative study of constructed 1.24-fold wild type and S protein mutant HBV genotype D clones was further performed. RESULTS HBV DNA was detected in 23(42.6%) of 54 patients with hematological malignancies who were HBsA g negative, but anti-HBc positive, suggesting the presence of occult HBV infection. The complete HBV genome was retrieved from 6 occult HBV patients, and P120 T and S143 L were detected in 3 and 2 cases, respectively. Site directed mutagenesis was done to produce 1.24-fold genotype D clones with amino acid mutations T120 and L143. The in vitro analyses revealed that a lower level of extracellular HBsA g was detected by chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay(CLEIA) with the clone containing T120 mutation, compared with the wild type or the clone with S143 L mutation despite the similar levels of extracellular and intracellular HBs Ag detected by Western blot. Southern blot experiments showed that the levels of intracellular HBV DNA were not different between these clones. CONCLUSION Occult HBV infection is common in patients with hematological malignancies and associated with P120 T and S143 L mutations. 120 T mutation impairs the detection of HBsA g by CLEIA. | Abeer Elkady Sayuki Iijima Sahar Aboulfotuh Elsayed Mostafa Ali Douaa Sayed Nashwa M Abdel-Aziz Amany M Ali Shuko Murakami Masanori Isogawa Yasuhito Tanaka | 2017 | World Journal of Hepatology2017,9,9: | 2

Aspartate transaminase to platelet ratio index in hepatitis C virus and Schistosomiasis coinfection显示文摘AIM: To assess the diagnostic accuracy,of aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index(APRI) alone and with antischistosomal antibody(Ab) in patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV) and schistosomiasis coinfection. METHODS: This retrospective study included medical records of three hundred and eighty three Egyptianmen patients who had undergone percutaneous liver biopsy between January 2006 to April 2014 in tertiary care hospital in Qatar for diagnosis or monitoring purpose were selected. Data of patients > 18 years of age were included in the study. The values of HCV RNA titer and antischistosomal antibody titer were also taken into consideration. Patients were excluded from the study if they had any other concomitant chronic liver disease, including; history of previous antiviral or interferon therapy, immunosuppressive, therapy, chronic hepatitis B infection, human immunodeficiency virus co-infection,autoimmune hepatitis, decompensated liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, prior liver transplantation, and if no data about the liver biopsy present. RESULTS: Median age of patients was 46 years. About 7.1% had no fibrosis, whereas 30.4%,37.5%,20.4%,and 4.6% had fibrosis of stage Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,and Ⅳ respectively. In bivariate analysis,APRI score, levels of AST,platelet count and age of patient showed statistically significant association with liver fibrosis(P < 0.0001); whereas antischistosomal antibody titer(P = 0.52) and HCV RNA titer(P = 0.79) failed to show a significant association. The respective AUC values for no fibrosis, significant fibrosis, severe fibrosis and cirrhosis of APRI score were 63%,73.2%,81.1% and 88.9% respectively. This showed good sensitivity and specificity of APRI alone for grading of liver fibrosis. But the inclusion of anti-Schistosoma antibody did not improve the prediction of fibrosis stage. CONCLUSION: The study results suggest that noninvasive biochemical markers like APRI are sensitive and specific in diagnosing the degree of fibrosis and cirrhosis in patients with coinfection of HCV and schistosomiasis as compared to biopsy. The addition of antischistosomal Ab to APRI did not improve sensitivity for predicting the degree of cirrhosis. | Moutaz Derbala Mohammed Elshiekh Elbadri Aliaa Mohamed Amer Saad Al Kaabi Khaleel Hassan Sultan Yasser Medhat Kamel Eman Hassan Satti Elsayed Tony Yervant Avades Prem Chandra Fatma M Shebl | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,46: | 2
