| 1 | Long-term aspirin pretreatment in the prevention of cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis in rats显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of long term pretreatment with low-,medium-and high-dose aspirin(acetylsalicylic acid,ASA) on a model of acute pancreatitis(AP) induced in rats.METHODS:Forty male Wistar rats were used.Three experimental groups,each consisting of eight animals,received low-(5 mg/kg per day),medium-(150 mg/kg per day) and high-dose(350 mg/kg per day) ASA in supplemented pellet chow for 100 d.Eight animals,serving as the AP-control group,and another eight,serving as reference value(RV) group,were fed with standard pellet chow for the same period.After pretreatment,AP was induced in the experimental animals by intraperitoneal administration of cerulein(2 × 50 μg/kg),while the RV group received saline in the same way.Twelve hours after the second injection,the animals were sacrificed.Pancreatic tissue and plasma samples were collected.One part of the collected pancreatic tissues was used for histopathological evaluation,and the remaining portion was homogenized.Cytokine levels [tumor necrosis factor,interleukin(IL)1β,IL-6],hemogram parameters,biochemical parameters(amylase and lipase),nuclear factor-κB,aspirin triggered lipoxins and parameters related to the antioxidant system(malondialdehyde,nitric oxide,hemeoxygenase-1,catalase and superoxide dismutase) were measured.RESULTS:Cerulein administration induced mild pancreatitis,characterized by interstitial edema(total histopathological score of 5.88 ± 0.44vs 0.25 ± 0.16,P < 0.001).Subsequent pancreatic tissue damage resulted in an increase in amylase(2829.71 ± 772.48 vs 984.57 ± 49.22 U/L,P = 0.001) and lipase(110.14 ± 75.84 U/L vs 4.71 ± 0.78 U/L,P < 0.001) in plasma,and leucocytes(6.89 ± 0.48 vs 4.36 ± 0.23,P = 0.001) in peripheral blood.Cytokines,IL-1β(18.81 ± 2.55 pg/μg vs 6.65 ± 0.24 pg/μg,P = 0.002) and IL-6(14.62 ± 1.98 pg/μg vs 9.09 ± 1.36 pg/μg,P = 0.04) in pancreatic tissue also increased.Aspirin pretreatment reduced the increase in the aforementioned parameters to a certain degree and partially improved the histopathological alterations caused by cerulein.No evidence of side effects related to chronic ASA administration(e.g.,inflammation or bleeding) was observed in the gastrointestinal tract in macroscopic and histopathological examination.CONCLUSION:Long term ASA pretreatment could prevent and/or ameliorate certain hematological,serological and histological alterations caused by ceruleininduced AP. | Ibrahim Akyazi Evren Eraslan Ahmet Gülubuk Elif Ergül Ekiz Zeynep L rakli Damla Haktanir Deniz Aktaran Bala Mete zkurt Erdal Matur Mukaddes zcan | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,19: | 5 |
| 2 | Effect of 1%brinzolamide and 0.5%timolol fixed combination on intraocular pressure after cataract surgery with phacoemulsification显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effect of brinzolamide-timolol fixed combination on intraocular pressure(IOP)after cataract surgery.METHODS:The study included 92 eyes of 87 patients who underwent cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation.Patients scheduled for phacoemulsification were assigned to 1 of 2 groups.The treatment group received 1 drop of brinzolamide-timolol fixed combination immediately after surgery,and the control group received no treatment.The IOP was measured preoperatively and at 2h and 24h postoperatively.RESULTS:The mean IOP change was lower in the treatment group than in the control group at 2h postoperatively.The difference between the mean IOP values of the two groups at 2h postoperatively was found to be statistically significant.Twenty-four hours after the surgery,the mean IOP change was still higher in the control group when compared to the treatment group.CONCLUSION:The fixed combination brinzolamidetimolol can effectively reduce IOP after cataract surgery. | Kemal rnek Nesrin Byktortop Nurgl rnek Reyhan Ogurel Inci Elif Erbahceci Zafer Onaran | 2013 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,6: | 2 |

| 12 | Autoimmune complications and clinical outcomes of herpes simplex encephalitis in children: A case series显示文摘Objective:To report the neurologic prognosis and autoimmune complications of 16 cases of childhood herpes simplex virus encephalitis.Methods:The study was conducted atŞanlıurfa Training and Research Hospital,Turkey from June 2017 to August 2019.The study included 16 pediatric patients aged between 6 months and 17 years(median age 77.7 months)who were diagnosed with herpes simplex virus type 1 encephalitis by pediatric infectious disease and pediatric neurology clinics.Patients were followed using patient records,and interviews at the pediatric neurology clinic or via the telephone.Clinical and demographic data,received therapies,neurologic prognosis and complications were evaluated.Results:Patients with and without autoimmune encephalitis were compared in terms of age,sex,symptom duration before treatment,initial cerebrospinal fluid protein,glucose,red blood count and white blood count but no significant difference was found.Autoimmune complications were seen in four patients.N-methyl-D-aspartate encephalitis was observed in three patients and choreoathetosis was seen in one patient.The average follow-up period was 48.3 months.Twenty-five percent of the patients were receiving multiple antiepileptic drug(AED)treatment,43.8%were receiving single AED treatment and 31.3%were not receiving AED treatment at the end of the follow-up.Motor disability was observed in 12.5%and drug-resistant epilepsy was observed in 6.3%who had autoimmune complications.Conclusions:Seizures and movement disorders were controlled with immunotherapy and autoantibodies should be studied routinely.Treatment should be started early upon recognition of autoimmune complications through follow-up by measuring autoantibody levels and clinical examination results.Effective prevention and curative treatment modalities are needed to avoid herpes simplex virus encephalitis complications. | Gül Demet KayaÖzçora Elif Söbü Türkan UygurŞahin Enes Salı Gonca Bektaş | 2023 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2023,16,5: | 0 |
| 13 | Antimicrobial activity against periodontopathogenic bacteria,antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of various extracts from endemic Thermopsis turcica显示文摘Objective:To investigate the in vitro antimicrobial potential of Thermopsis turcica Kit Tan,Vural&Kckdk against periodoutopathogenie bacteria,its antioxidant activity and cytotoxic effect on various cancer cell lines.Methods:In vitro antimicrobial activities of elhanol.methanol,ethyl acetate(ElAc,n-hexane and water extracts of Thermopsis turcica herb against periodontopathogenic bacteria,Aggregatibacter actinnmycelemconilans ATCC 29523 and Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 were tested by agar well diffusion,minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal bactericidal concentration(MBC),Antioxidant properties of the extracts were evaluatod by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl radical scavenging activity and p-carotene bleaching methods.Amounts of phenolic contents of the extracts were also analysed by using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent.Additionally,cytotoxic activity of the extracts on androgcn-insensilivc prostate cancer,androgen—sensitive prostate cancer,chronic myelogenous leukemia and acute promyelocytic leukemia bunian cancer cell lines were determined by 3-4,5-dimelhylthiazol-2-yh-2,5-diphenyltclrazolium bromide assay.Human gingival fibroblast cells were used as a control.Results:Our data showed that ELAc extract had the highest antimicrobial effect on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemitans(MIC:1.562 mg/ml_MHC:3.124 mg/ml.)and Porph yromonas gingiralis(MIC:0.781 mg/mL,MBC:1.562 mg/mL).In antioxidant assays.ElAc extract exhibited also the highest radical scavenging activity[IC_(50)=(30.0±0.3)μg/ml.]and the highest inhibition[(74.35±0.30)%]|against lineloic acide oxidation.The amount of phenolic content of it was also the highest[(l62.5±l.2)μg/mg gallic acid].In cytotoxic assay,only etbanol[IC_(50)=(80.00±1.21)μg/ml.]and EtAc extract[IC_(50)=(70.0±0.9)μg/ml]were toxic on acute promyeloeytic leukemia cells at 20—100μg/mL.P<0.05>.However,no toxic effect was observed on human gingival fibroblast cells.Cunclusions:According to our findings,owing to its antioxidant and cytotoxic potential,EtAc exlrael might include anticancer agents for acute promyelocytic leukemia. | Elif Burcu Bali Leyla Acik Glin Akca Meral Sarper Mualla Pinar Eli Ferit Avcu Mecit Vural | 2014 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,7: | 0 |

| 19 | Development of gluten-free tarhana formulations:Part II.Utilization of legume composite flours and baker’s yeast显示文摘Many gluten-free foods are prepared from starch-rich ingredients with low protein and fiber content,resulting in poor nutritional and functional quality.In this study,five different composite legume flours which are prepared from different levels of chickpea,lentil,common bean,soybean and lupin flours were used at 75%level in gluten-free tarhana formulations to improve nutritional quality.Also,effect of baker’s yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)at different levels(2.5%and 5.0%)on physicochemical and sensory attributes of the samples containing composite flours was investigated.The inclusion of composite flours(75%)resulted in lower L^(*) and hue values in tarhana than gluten-free sample without composite flour.The viscosity of tarhana soup containing“25%chickpea+50%lentil”composite flour(F2)was similar to traditional wheat tarhana soup(p>0.05).The utilization of composite flours containing“50%chickpea+25%lentil”(F1),F2,and“25%chickpea+25%lentil+25%common bean”(F3)in tarhana revealed comparable oil absorption capacity to wheat tarhana.Besides,pH and foaming capacity values of the samples containing composite flours were greater than wheat tarhana and gluten-free tarhana without composite flour.The addition of composite flours elicited markedly higher ash,protein,fat,and mineral content.While phytic acid concentration of tarhana enhanced with the incorporation of composite flour,the use of 5.0%yeast considerably decreased phytic acid content and enriched ash,protein,total phenolic content,Ca,Cu,K,Mg,and P concentrations of tarhana in comparison with tarhana containing 2.5%yeast.The inclusion of F1,F2,and F3 elicited acceptable sensory scores in tarhana.It was concluded that gluten-free tarhana prepared from legume composite flours(especially F1,F2,and F3)+5.0%yeast could offer a nutritious and acceptable alternative for gluten-free diet with greater protein and mineral contents.Based on the findings,further studies may evaluate the use of hydrocolloids to improve the technological and sensory properties of functional tarhana formulations developed in this study. | Hatice Kılıç Keskin Nermin Bilgiçli Elif Yaver | 2022 | Food Bioscience2022,47,3: | 0 |
