1Hypoalbuminemia in colorectal cancer prognosis:Nutritional marker or inflammatory surrogate?显示文摘Albumin is the single most abundant protein in the human serum. Its roles in physiology and pathology are diverse. Serum albumin levels have been classically thought to reflect the nutritional status of patients. This concept has been challenged in the last two decades as multiple factors, such as inflammation, appeared to affect albumin levels independent of nutrition. In general, cancer patients have a high prevalence of hypoalbuminemia. As such, the role of hypoalbuminemia in patients with colorectal cancer has received significant interest. We reviewed the English literature on the prognostic value of pretreatment albumin levels in colorectal cancer. 2A Regulatory Module Controlling CA-Mediated Endosperm Cell Expansion Is Critical for Seed Germination in Arabidopsis显示文摘A key component of seed germination is the interplay of mechanical forces governing embryo growth and the surrounding restraining endosperm tissue.Endosperm cell separation is therefore thought to play a critical role in the control of this developmental transition.Here we demonstrate that in Arabidopsis thaliana seeds,endosperm cell expansion is a key component of germination.Endosperm cells expand to accommodate embryo growth prior to germination.We show that this is an actively regulated process supported by spatiotemporal control of the cell expansion gene EXPANSIN 2 (EXPA2).The NAC transcription factors NAC25 and NACIL were identified as upstream regulators of EXPA2 expression,gibbereliinmediated endosperm expansion,and seed germination.The DELLA protein RGL2 repressed activation of the EXPA2 promoter by NAC25/NACIL.Taken together,our findings uncover a key role of the GA/ DELLA-NAC25/NACIL-EXPA2 network in regulating endosperm cell expansion to control the seed-toseedling transition.Rocio Sanchez-Montesino Laura Bouza-Morcillo Julietta Marquez Melania Ghita Salva Duran-Nebreda Luis Gomez Michael J.Holdsworth George Bassel Luis Onate-Sanchez 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,1:11
3Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: Therapeutic challenges and research limitations显示文摘Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors(PNETs)are known to be the second most common epithelial malignancy of the pancreas.PNETs can be listed among the slowest growing as well as the fastest growing human cancers.The prevalence of PNETs is deceptively low;however,its incidence has significantly increased over the past decades.According to the American Cancer Society’s estimate,about 4032(>7%of all pancreatic malignancies)individuals will be diagnosed with PNETs in 2020.PNETs often cause severe morbidity due to excessive secretion of hormones(such as serotonin)and/or overall tumor mass.Patients can live for many years(except for those patients with poorly differentiated G3 neuroendocrine tumors);thus,the prevalence of the tumors that is the number of patients actually dealing with the disease at any given time is fairly high because the survival is much longer than pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.Due to significant heterogeneity,the management of PNETs is very complex and remains an unmet clinical challenge.In terms of research studies,modest improvements have been made over the past decades in the identification of potential oncogenic drivers in order to enhance the quality of life and increase survival for this growing population of patients.Unfortunately,the majority of systematic therapies approved for the management of advanced stage PNETs lack objective response or at most result in modest benefits in survival.In this review,we aim to discuss the broad challenges associated with the management and the study of PNETs.Gabriel Benyomo Mpilla Philip Agop Philip Bassel El-Rayes Asfar Sohail Azmi 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,28:4
