1Combination therapy using evening primrose oil and electrical stimulation to improve nerve function following a crush injury of sciatic nerve in male rats显示文摘Peripheral nerve injuries with a poor prognosis are common.Evening primrose oil(EPO) has beneficial biological effects and immunomodulatory properties.Since electrical activity plays a major role in neural regeneration,the present study investigated the effects of electrical stimulation(ES),combined with evening primrose oil(EPO),on sciatic nerve function after a crush injury in rats.In anesthetized rats,the sciatic nerve was crushed using small haemostatic forceps followed by ES and/or EPO treatment for 4 weeks.Functional recovery of the sciatic nerve was assessed using the sciatic functional index.Histopathological changes of gastrocnemius muscle atrophy were investigated by light microscopy.Electrophysiological changes were assessed by the nerve conduction velocity of sciatic nerves.Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the remyelination of the sciatic nerve following the interventions.EPO + ES,EPO,and ES obviously improved sciatic nerve function assessed by the sciatic functional index and nerve conduction velocity of the sciatic nerve at 28 days after operation.Expression of the peripheral nerve remyelination marker,protein zero(P0),was increased in the treatment groups at 28 days after operation.Muscle atrophy severity was decreased significantly while the nerve conduction velocity was increased significantly in rats with sciatic nerve injury in the injury + EPO + ES group than in the EPO or ES group.Totally speaking,the combined use of EPO and ES may produce an improving effect on the function of sciatic nerves injured by a crush.The increased expression of P0 may have contributed to improving the functional effects of combination therapy with EPO and ES as well as the electrophysiological and histopathological features of the injured peripheral nerve.Omid Badri Parviz Shahabi Jalal Abdolalizadeh Mohammad Reza Alipour Hadi Veladi Mehdi Farhoudi Mohsen Sharif Zak 2017Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,3:7
2Improved recovery of a low-grade refractory gold ore using flotation–preoxidation–cyanidation methods显示文摘In this work, different flotation–preoxidation–cyanidation methods are considered for treating a lowgrade refractory gold ore. On the one hand, the results of selective flotation show that 22% and 31.1%of total Sb and As, respectively, remained in the final tailings and only about 28% of the total Au remained for further cyanidation processes. On the other hand, in bulk method of flotation the maximum Au recovery of 90.6% achieved after 60 min of flotation at the grind size with K80 of 146 micron. In addition, the bulk flotation method resulted in the concentrate with low concentrations of Sb and As elements. To improve the recovery of low-grade refractory gold ores, flotation should be followed by roasting, biological, or pressure oxidation processes so that the gold could be liberated prior to cyanidation processes. It is also found that the pressure oxidation pre-treatment of the concentrates prior to cyanidation may yield high gold recoveries of over than 83%. In these processes, recoveries are controlled by the temperature and the oxygen partial pressure in the solvent. 4Machine learning enabled autonomous microstructural characterization in 3D samples显示文摘We introduce an unsupervised machine learning(ML)based technique for the identification and characterization of microstructures in three-dimensional(3D)samples obtained from molecular dynamics simulations,particle tracking data,or experiments.Our technique combines topology classification,image processing,and clustering algorithms,and can handle a wide range of microstructure types including grains in polycrystalline materials,voids in porous systems,and structures from self/directed assembly in soft-matter complex solutions.Our technique does not require a priori microstructure description of the target system and is insensitive to disorder such as extended defects in polycrystals arising from line and plane defects.We demonstrate quantitively that our technique provides unbiased microstructural information such as precise quantification of grains and their size distributions in 3D polycrystalline samples,characterizes features such as voids and porosity in 3D polymeric samples and micellar size distribution in 3D complex fluids.To demonstrate the efficacy of our ML approach,we benchmark it against a diverse set of synthetic data samples representing nanocrystalline metals,polymers and complex fluids as well as experimentally published characterization data.Our technique is computationally efficient and provides a way to quickly identify,track,and quantify complex microstructural features that impact the observed material behavior.Henry Chan Mathew Cherukara Troy D.Loeffler Badri Narayanan Subramanian K.R.S.Sankaranarayanan 2020npj Computational Materials2020,,1:5

7Correlation between the skull base fracture and the incidence of intracranial hemorrhage in patients w让h traumatic brain injury显示文摘Purpose:A head injury(HI)may cause a skull fracture,which may or may not be associated with injury to the brain.In essence,a skull base fracture(SBF)is a linear fracture at the base of the skull.Loss of consciousness and Glasgow coma score(GCS)may vary depending on an associated intracranial pathology.The pathomechanism is believed to be caused by high energy impact directly to the mastoid and supraorbital bone or indirectly from the cranial vault.Aim of this study is to define the correlation between SBF and intracranial hemorrhage(ICH)in patients with HI.Methods:Analysis of data obtained from a retrospective review of medical records and from a systematized database pertaining to diagnostic criteria of SBF patients based only on clinical symptoms associated with ICH caused by HI treated in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dr.Hasan Sadikin Hospital,Bandung,Indonesia from January 1,2012 to December 31,2017.The exclusion criteria in eluded age less than 15 years and no head computed tomography(CT)scan examination provided.Results:A total of 9006 patients were in eluded into this study in which they were divided into 3 groups:group 1,HI with no ICH;group 2,HI with single ICH and group 3,HI with multiple ICH.In all the SBF cases,SBF at anterior fossa accounted for 69.40%of them,which were mostly accompanied with mild HI(64.70%).Severity of HI and site of SBF correlated with the existence of traumatic brain lesions on CT scan,thus these factors were able to predict whether there were traumatic brain lesions or not.Most of the patients with epidural hemorrhage(EDH)has single traumatic lesion on CT scan,whereas most of the patients with cerebral contusion(CC)has multiple traumatic lesions on CT scan.On patients with both traumatic brain injury and SBF,most of the patients with anterior fossa SBF has EDH;whereas most of the patients with middle fossa SBF were accompanied with CC.Surgery was not required for most of the patients with SBF.Conclusion:SBFs were strongly correlated with traumatic ICH lesions patients with anterior fossa SBF were more likely to suffer EDH whereas with middle fossa SBF were more likely to suffer CC.Ahmad Faried Danny Halim Ingrid Ayke Widjaya Rendy Febrian Badri Syailendra Fii Sulaiman Muhammad Z.Arifin 2019Chinese Journal of Traumatology2019,22,5:3

10Microstructure and Impression Creep Properties of Ca-Containing AS31 Magnesium Alloy显示文摘The effect of Ca addition on the microstructure and impression creep properties of AS31 magnesium alloy was investigated in the current study.The results showed that the microstructure of AS31 alloy is composed of α(Mg) phase,massive Mg_(17)Al_(12) and some Chinese script Mg_2Si compounds.Addition of 2 wt%Ca to AS31 alloy resulted in complete elimination of Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase and formation of Al_2Ca compound.Ca improved the alloy's creep properties especially at higher temperature.Improvement in the creep properties was attributed to the elimination of soft Mg_(17)Al_(12) and formation of thermally stable Al_2Ca compound.According to the obtained stress exponent and creep activation energy,pipe diffusion climb-controlled creep was estimated as the dominant creep mechanism and Ca had no influence on the dominant mechanism.Mohammad Badri Seyyed Mehdi Miresmaeili Bahram Nami 2016Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2016,29,12:2
