5Succinate-bonded pullulan: An efficient and reusable super-sorbent for cadmium-uptake from spiked high-hardness groundwater显示文摘Chemically modified pullulan was evaluated for its sorption efficiency and selectivity to remove cadmium(Cd) from spiked high-hardness groundwater(GW). Pullulan esterified with succinic anhydride using dimethylaminopyridine showed a fairly high degree of substitution value as confirmed by1 H NMR spectroscopy. Pullulan succinate(Pull-Suc) was converted into the sodium salt(Pull-Suc-Na). The effect of contact time(5–200 min) and p H(2–8) on Cd-uptake by the sorbent(Pull-Suc-Na) was investigated. The sorbent showed more than 90% Cd-removal in first 15 min from distilled water(DW) and GW solution,respectively. Comparison of Pull-Suc-Na with other polysaccharidal sorbents suggested its high efficiency(DW 476.2 mg/g and GW 454.5 mg/g) and selectivity for the removal of Cd by an ion exchange mechanism, which is further supported by the negative Gibbs free energy values calculated from Langmuir isotherms. A Langmuir isotherm kinetic model provided the best fit for the sorption of Cd using Pull-Suc-Na. The sorbent showed a negligible decrease in Cd-uptake over three regeneration cycles. 12Assessing the response of indigenous loquat cultivar Mardan to phytohormones for in vitro shoot proliferation and rooting显示文摘In vitro cultures of loquat cultivar Mardan were established using shoot apices after treating with NaOCl (5%,7%,10%,12%,14% (v/v)) for 12 min and HgCl2 (0.01%,0.05%,0.10%,0.20%,0.25% (w/v)) for 2 min.A maximum survival rate of 70% was recorded after surface sterilization with 10% NaOCl.Caulogenic response was assessed on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium fortified with assorted combinations of the cytokinins,benzylaminopurine (BAP),kinetin,and N6-(2-isopentyl)adenine (2iP).Treatment of BAP 1.5 mg/L combined with 2iP 9.0 mg/L and kinetin 1.5 mg/L was found to be optimum for shoot morphogenesis in terms of the number and subsequent growth of shoots,while the highest shoot length was yielded by the combination of BAP 0.5 mg/L,kinetin 0.5 mg/L,and 2iP 3 mg/L.Higher levels of cytokinins induced callogenesis,vitrification and stunted growth to some extent.For rhizogenesis,uniform sized micro-shoots were excised and transferred to half-strength MS medium containing auxins.The best rooting expression was observed with naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) 1 mg/L combined with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) 2 mg/L and paclobutrazol (PBZ) 1 mg/L.Nadeem Akhtar ABBASI Tariq PERVAIZ Ishfaq Ahmed HAFIZ Mehwish YASEEN Azhar HUSSAIN 2013Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2013,14,9:0

14Disintegration of uncertainties associated with real-time multi-satellite precipitation products in diverse topographic and climatic area in Pakistan显示文摘Satellite-based Precipitation Estimates(SPEs)have gained importance due to enhanced spatial and temporal resolution,particularly in Indus basin,where raingauge network has fewer observation stations and drainage area is laying in many countries.Formulation of SPEs is based on indirect mechanism,therefore,assessment and correction of associated uncertainties is required.In the present study,disintegration of uncertainties associated with four prominent real time SPEs,IMERG,TMPA,CMORPH and PERSIANN has been conducted at grid level,regional scale,and summarized in terms of regions as well as whole study area basis.The bias has been disintegrated into hit,missed,false biases,and Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)into systematic and random errors.A comparison among gauge-and satellite-based precipitation estimates at annual scale,showed promising result,encouraging use of real time SPEs in the study area.On grid basis,at daily scale,from box plots,the median values of total bias(-0.5 to 0.5 mm)of the used SPEs were also encouraging although some under/over estimations were noted in terms of hit bias(-0.15 to 0.05 mm/day).Relatively higher values of missed(0.3 to 0.5 mm/day)and false(0.5 to 0.7 mm/day)biases were observed.The detected average daily RMSE,systematic errors,and random errors were also comparatively higher.Regional-scale spatial distribution of uncertainties revealed lower values of uncertainties in plain areas,depicting the better performance of satellite-based products in these areas.However,in areas of high altitude(>4000 m),due to complex topography and climatic conditions(orographic precipitation and glaciated peaks)higher values of biases and errors were observed.Topographic barriers and point scale gauge data could also be a cause of poor performance of SPEs in these areas,where precipitation is more on ridges and less in valleys where gauge stations are usually located.Precipitation system’s size and intensity can also be a reason of higher biases,because Microwave Imager underestimate precipitation in small systems(<200 km^(2))and overestimate in large systems(>2000 km^(2)).At present,use of bias correction techniques at daily time scale is compulsory to utilize real time SPEs in estimation of floods in the study area.Inter comparison of satellite products indicated that IMERG gave better results than the others with the lowest values of systematic errors,missed and false biases.Muhammad MASOOD Ghulam NABI Muhammad BABUR Aftab Hussain AZHAR Muhammad KALEEM ULLAH 2021Journal of Mountain Science2021,18,3:0
15Rate of elapsed polymerization of hydroxyethylacrylate gel induced by gamma irradiation显示文摘The rate of elapsed polymerization of polyhydroxyethylacrylate in gelatin has been studied to investigate the effect of co-monomers consumption at a given dose. The polymer gel dosimeters consisted of 2%~4% N,N-methyelene-bis-acrylamide cross-linker,2%~4% 2-hydroxyethylacrylate monomer and gelatin at 3% and 5%. The dosimeters were irradiated by using 60Co teletherapy γ-ray source up to 20 Gy at a constant dose rate. The relaxation rate of water proton in the dosimeters at different doses and co-monomer concentrations were measured using a nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The rate of elapsed polymerization decreases with increasing the dose and the initial concentration of co-monomers. 16Study of the O-mode in a relativistic degenerate electron plasma显示文摘Using the linearized relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell equations,a generalized expression for the plasma conductivity tensor is derived.The dispersion relation for the O-mode in a relativistic degenerate electron plasma is investigated by employing the Fermi-Dirac distribution function.The propagation characteristics of the O-mode(cut offs,resonances,propagation regimes,harmonic structure) are examined by using specific values of the density and the magnetic field that correspond to different relativistic dense environments.Further,it is observed that due to the relativistic effects the cut off and the resonance points are shifted to low frequency values,as a result the propagation regime is reduced.The dispersion relations for the non-relativistic and the ultra-relativistic limits are also presented.Kalsoom AZRA Muddasir ALI Azhar HUSSAIN 2017Plasma Science and Technology2017,19,3:0
